The Fold 5 is objectively the better device, but I can understand choosing the pixel if you really love the form factor.

The form factor and I think people like me that prefer pixel UI over one UI would choose the pixel. Also, cameras!

I switched from zfold 3 to pixel fold just because of the form factor. I would have gone for one of the Chinese foldables as most of them are even better. Unfortunately if you import them then warranty repair/replacement is going to be a pia. Think without root Samsung software experience is better but with root pixel fold is better all round
Nothing about it is objectively better.
I just picked up my pixel fold. I pesonally like rhe bezels. It makes watching full content much better because accidental touches are non existent. There is something about that vanilla android experience. Best phone ive ever used.
I've switched from the zfold 3 to the pixel fold. I think for customisation and 3rd party app optimization Samsung is better. For everything else I prefer the pixel fold. The pixel fold is very easy to root and that opens you up to a world of customisation so then surpasses the Samsung. On the folding flat the pixel fold does open 180% but not automatically, you do have to add a little extra force to get the extra couple of degrees
How do you root Samsung and Google ?
@@morm2173smaung snapdragons for the most part you dont, not anymore especially in north america. Google devices are still rootable as far as i know although development isnt what it used to be. Head over to XDA and read up on it
@@morm2173Samsung is notoriously hard to root these days they have locked bootloaders you can unlock it but need a unlock code and specific software. With Google while it is still locked it can be unlocked via adb without need for any codes. And there's more support for pixel phones in the rooting community with both magisk and custom ROMs

Where Samsung wins is with their pre-orders trade in offers and specials which makes it a much more compelling device overall. Prefer the pixel outer display as well but Samsung offers so much for my old device and discounts accessories such as headphones, watches, etc with purchase. Overall Samsung will always take the crown in that aspect.
Getting the Zfold, the new watch 6 classic and headphones for lower than what the pixel will cost me in the end.
Samsung wins pretty much everywhere. Which outer screen dimensions is better is subjective, although admittedly more would prefer pixel's dimensions over the fold's. Aside from that controversial category, which area is pixel better in? I'd say none.
Google has great pre-orders which included a free Pixel Watch worth over £350, much better than what Samsung offers in the UK. We also got a 10% credit as a One member and great trade-ins.
Plus you get the 512gb storage upgrade for free if you pre-oder the Fold 5
@amfrepo sure but you end up with like less than half the trade in credit. And were still getting $240 off the watch $200-300 off the tablet, and $180 off the ear buds, plus $50 off accessories. Then a free storage upgrade. It's really not even close. Samsung has always been the best for trade ins and this was some of their best ever.
It's great to have both tall and short form factor in the phone mode. The grip I have with a tall form factor in a phone mode is the narrow width I don't do narrow width. So me it'll be between the Xiaomi Mix fold and the Pixel fold which If I had the privilege I can switch between the two design as a daily driver. My only problem with the Pixel fold is the large bezel in the tablet mode and the unevenness with the opening of the hinge. I repeat it's great to have options with the foldable phone form factor both tall and short phone mode. The shorter form factor is excellent for one handed use and the taller form factor is for screen real estate experience in the foldable phones design.

Both phones can be turned to landscape or portrait so the inner display is the same.
@@Fozzee.1970 I understand that. I have a Fold 3 and when watching videos you get HUGE black bars on 16:9 content. I was curious if the Pixel was as bad since it looks like the screen ratio is much wider when open

The Honor Magic V2 is out soon! There’s already videos on it, it’s by far the thinnest foldable yet with a 5000mah battery, it’s crazy
I am not sure that it is coming to Europe and def will not sell directly in the US. Sold out in China so if released in Europe will be months away.
I traded my Z Fold 4 in for the Google Pixel Fold and I am very Satisfied. Better Cameras and better Form Factor and the Update got rid of the flaws so there really isn't a Flaw.
Did the same and am super happy with the decision!

@@mmednick1 Day 2 of me owning the phone and I powered off and on and it asked to update and all the issues went away. Charges faster, Doesn't get hot, and Battery last longer throughout the day. You may have to check your settings and look for software update and select it.
It will start getting hot again. Believe me.. I have been using pixel phones for a while now and I am done with it. Their tensor chips will always end up overheating.. turns your phone to a hot brick in your hand when you aren't even doing anything demanding.. I am switching to Samsung. Pixel has a lot of work to do with their tensor chips before I will ever even consider coming back.

I just put my hands on z fold 5 at my local Bestbuy and it is Lighter in weight and the screen gets brighter and the crease was DEFINITELY LESS NOTICEABLE, U can almost not see it or feel it... and could not see or tell the inner screen protector was there... this is compared to the z fold4..
I'm actually impressed about the crease being less noticeable..😮😁👍WOW.. the s pen and the case is also nice and light and flat/thin..

Yes. I paid $1799 for mine minus $1000 trade in. But I also got $200 Samsung credit and a case with s pen. I'm not sure if that's the same this series. So maybe that's the price difference people might be referring to. I believe reserving it before the preorder was only a $50 credit.
I’m on the fence about buying the Z fold 5 and Mix fold 3 which will be released on the 11th of August… I need help in deciding as it’s a very expensive transition to the world of foldables

The most durable folding phone line on the market just became the brightest.
Two things a phone needs.
Durability, and ability to be used in bright environments.
Samsung is literally pushing the form factor forward, steadily removing all of the cons of choosing a folding phone over a slab, only to be told theyre not innovating enough, despite the competition creating devices that are overall worse, even if they have an enticing feature here or there.
Yes, I can imagine that max brightness is important in some regions, but in the UK it is moot so not something that I factor in when I make a decision. I saw a poll on Twitter and over 80% prefer the Pixel Fold outer display and that for me is the deal-breaker and why I would say to consumers, give the Galaxy Fold 5 a miss, and wait for the Fold 6 next year when Samsung has admitted that they will correct that fail.
So, just for the front display I would say an easy win for Pixel, with the caveat that once the Galaxy Fold adopts a sensible user-friendly front aspect ratio it will go straight to the top of the class, but ATM it is a horrible design.
@@andyH_England If we're talking about fails that need to be admitted and fixed, the internal display of the Pixel Fold and its poor app compatibility that leaves black bars to the side of the screen on nearly every non native app needs to be the first to go.
The Fold could lack an external display and still provide more than the Pixel Fold because of that poor app compatibility.
Then there's the processor and.... just nevemind.
I've had this conversation too many times before.

@@leonfrancis3418 I have the Pixel Fold and all you have to do is switch to portrait mode and there are no black bars. That “issue” is made up by Samsung affiliated YT creators to promote their link to the Galaxy Fold 5! Really complaining that you have to turn a tablet from landscape to portrait mode is the pits of desperation to justify your Samsung. So that is a poor take and irrelevant to sensible users.
The processor is not the best and I cannot argue with that. But Google has done a fantastic job and I am getting 2-3 extra hours SOT on my Pixel Fold than my Galaxy Fold 4. It is a combo of Android 14 beta and turning 5G off. Also, thermals are much better with little sign of heat. The usual day-to-day stuff it is smoother and faster than the Fold 4 (await Fold 5).
So, for me, and I understand that the Galaxy has s-pen which may be a deal-breaker, but IMHO and usage, the Pixel is better. That is not saying the Fold 4 is bad, just that the front display is close to useless for me and a wasted opportunity. No other OEM has as narrow a display and on Twitter 80% preferred the Pixel to Galaxy regarding outer aspect ratio.

Also bringing up the Twitter poll is kinda meaningless in all honesty. How many of the 80% polled actually used a folding phone before, let alone the Z fold? Probably not many because so many people just listened to the parroting of YT creators saying the front display is too narrow and never bought one because of it. Does the Pixel have a better front display ratio? Yes, however Samsung's isn't as bad as people like yourself are claiming it is either.
@@The_Brimada We are going to disagree on the front display. The data and facts are that no one bought into Samsung's aspect ratio choice and even Samsung will ditch it next version. Like the gap when closed, Samsung fans claimed it was important for water resistance, but it wasn't, just a poor design. Samsung now uses a waterdrop hinge, the foldable standard. I think Samsung got a lot wrong and other OEMs have ignored these obvious flaws and designed their own hinges and displays. Samsung not only got it wrong, but they also missed out on billions as their patents became worthless as the market went in another direction.

The trade in deals in the states appear WELL better than in the UK. Stateside RUclipsrs saying thry can get £900 for a Zflip4 whereas we can get £440 (what they can get for a Zflip 2)
Had the fold 2 and 3. Got fed up with the tall display so went google. However on price it worked well. Same 1750 price. But got a free pixel watch which is a nice upgrade to my watch 4. Also as I was a google 1 subscriber got 10% store credit. So I brought pixel buds pro! So new phone and watch and headphones for 1750. I was well happy with that. 👍.
I really wish Samsung would’ve went with the form factor of the Pixel Fold. IMO it’s what we all expected from a foldable in the beginning. The tall, skinny closed Z still throws me off.
I feel like the pixel fold is even more peculiar though. It feels like a normal phone that just happens to fold into a larger screen, I prefer to use the front screen with the pixel fold and forget about the inside screen. And the Samsung is the opposite where it draws you in to use the inside screen and only use it folded for minor things. Overall, since I'm paying for a folding phone, I would rather not forget about the main feature of the phone. I think Samsung did it better

Z fold 4 would be a good deal for those who would like to try foldables. It's almost the same as the z fold 5 minus the new hinge and the performance is still better than the pixel fold's tensor G2. You'll also get Spen support and samsung dex. I feel like the biggest z fold 5 competitor is not the pixel fold and the one+ fold but their own z fold 4.
for me, the fold 5 made more sense. I'm coming from a S20 ultra 5G. with pre order, I got the 1k trade in and the free storage upgrade. Add to that, my employer pays for insurance, as well as HBO Max (AT&T). As I don't need/use the S Pen, or care about the camera, it just makes more sense to pay 700.00 for a 2k phone.
The outer display is much more use ever day friendly in the pixel, i wish the galaxy was like that, ive have now the fold 2, and 4 and i think ill wait for the 6

I have a fold 3, this has not really convinced me to spend 1000 dollars on it. I had told myself if they completely got rid of the crease I would get it, but they have not. And it doesn't look any better. Once the AI assistant is launched, I won't even much need the skinny front display of my fold 3 anyway. Might wait till next year, this is not an upgrade even for the fold 3.
I really want a foldable phone, but each phone has their own compromises. And those compromises, relative to the price, is just too much to bear. Hopefully, these phones will improve within the next few years, where you don't have to give up on camera quality or battery life, just to own a foldable.
where is the added £200 coming from. Z fold 4 started at £1649 and the 5 is starting at £1749? am I wrong with this.

I skipped Samsung foldables because the bloatware on att phones..also pure android is king. The camera is in fact better than the zf5 , same with battery life . The pf does fold flat (at least mine ) . And I don't have to open the pf to send texts.. sorry for me the pixel fold takes the cake and ive used galaxy and note phones since the mega ..
Need a Battery drain test, which has better SoT ?
Yesterday I got 11 hours projected SOT with my Pixel Fold and compared to my Galaxy Fold 4 that is around 50% more. Google have really optimised the Pixel and it is a battery beast. I expect the Fold 5 will have 30-60 mins more than the 6-7 hours of my Fold 4.
FYI I use wifi/LTE (no 5G on either as too spotty in my region). 66% front display and 120Hz.

everyone says the same thing about the z fold outer screen, i actually prefer it, especially for one handed use.
Its worth saying that the Zfold 5 outlasts the Pixel fold in terms of battery, even with the smaller battery and the brighter inner display
despite some bugs and cons I would choose Pixel since Fold 5 seems to me ugly due to narrow display (remote control for TV :D )

I got $300 off the Samsung Watch 6 classic 47mm, and $1250 total off the Zfold 5 with my S21 trade in, i just couldnt get near that deal on the pixel despite same carrier or different, plus Samsung upgraded me to 512gb for free...
Wow I will keep my Note 10+. Waiting for Bigger battery which should be 5000. And no mention of Speakers. Many many people would love Front Facing Speakers.

To buy a foldable solely for a candy bar front screen is plain foolish. You buy it for the tablet experience 😂 zfold front display is a cover screen for one handed quick replies for on the go which I prefer. However Google photos are far superior. But zfold pics and vids are not trash so I don't care lol
That is a false presumption. Folds are replacing your phone not your tablet, so the priority is that it acts the best as a phone with the convenience of a tablet when needed. I have no idea why you think that and assume you are simply defending your fav brand, Samsung.
I'm not going to lie. I like the look of the google fold, but in terms of the samsung fold, it does have a much taller outer screen im currently using the samsung z flip 3 as I got it for less than £200 and Its my first folding phone so I wanted to see what I like and Diss like about them

The Fold 4 has a screen protector that creases after several months use. It's difficult to get it replaced. It's a drag.

I have the Z Fold 3. I find the outer screen close to useless. I can't justify purchasing a folding device that promises two screens, but only one is actually useable. If you purchase a Z Fold device, but you barely use the outer screen, you're basically buying a 7 inch, folding tablet that makes calls. If Samsung had thr Pixel Folds form factor, it would be game over!
On the other side, the pixel just feels like a regular phone where the fold is just a gimmick. Almost to the point of questioning why I even got a folding phone if I only ever use the front screen. I think Samsung has the better design right now

"I'm a phone first, tablet second kind of guy..." Then you bought the wrong phone. The camera wars is way overblown, imho. Samsung has a very capable camera and is good enough for me. I'd pick One UI over stock Android. Solid hardware over sketchy google (based over multiple reviews on YT).

$2000 for a foldable you never have to unfold (Pixel Fold) is a shockingly poor value.
$2000 to have a choice and not be forced to open up is a bargain. That is a terrible take and have no idea why you think having a useless front display is value!!!
@amfrepo It's retarded. You're getting a bunch of letterboxed apps on the inside display, so why would you unfold the Pixel to get the same experience as the outer screen? You can't even do split-screen in portrait mode because the screen is too narrow to support that feature. "I can do everything on the outer screen" is the Pixel Fold's killer feature. So what's the point?! Get yourself a 7a and call it a day. 😂
As for the "useless" front display of the Z Fold...it's useful in exactly the way Samsung intended. You use it for quick interactions, where unfolding the phone is impractical or unnecessary. The value is in the unfolding and using that huge canvas you just paid $2k for. Four apps at the same time. In any orientation. Full-screen apps at user's choice. INDEPENDENT home screen experiences, with widgets that can actually straddle the center of the screen. S pen input.
The Z Fold has always invited users to UNFOLD it. The Pixel Fold invites users to not bother. Poor value.

To be honest, I don’t get the use case of the inner display of foldables. In the present scenario, no video content is being shot in that aspect ratio and none of the apps we use daily are natively supported in that display. I am happy with my Iphone 14 pro max because at the end of day I am still watching a video in the same aspect ratio as someone with a foldable is
App multitasking and gaming is what that inner screen is for aside from watching videos. I love how my fold 4 shows more info when opening spreadsheets for my business report needs. I also played genshin impact and some racing games like asphalt 9 on it and the experience is amazing.
Pixel failed Jerry Rigs durability test... that alone is reason not to get it

Want to hear something funny, the Z Fold 5 is really the Z Fold 4. Lol 😂 all they did was rearrange the camera light lol 😂 . Make the phone fold flat to leave no gap. And they fool customers each year with chip set upgrades because a hair faster sometimes is not noticable enough to say something is faster lol 😂 . All the other Specs is Identical. On Samsung website they know it's the same phone because go to the compare phones section and you will see the specs on Z Fold 4 are identical to Z Fold 5 all they did was rearrange the words like they did the rear Camera lights.
Minus the brightest screen on a foldable, almost doubling the nits of the Fold 4.

I owned the Z Fold 4 so I'm stating facts. 1200 Nits is all you need. Some phones have 1000 Nits and work just fine. If anything over 1000 Nits doesn't work in direct sunlight then it may be the material. In Google Pixel Folds case, it may be that thin plastic sheet that most phone companies place on a phone and call it a screen protector.
As a current pixel 6 owner about to trade in for a Fold 5 I couldn't be more excited. I've hated this pixel since I got it 2 years ago and it's so poorly designed that it's going to be a long time before I trust another Google mobile product again. Especially one they're still learning to design.
Samsung is tried and true. 1k credit for this trash phone instantly sold me as I've been eyeing coming back to Samsung anyway.
Also, i think having the slimmer screen gives the phone more diversity and greater purpose to use the inner screen. Not sure why I would buck up for a pixel fold if I never really feel like I need to open it. Just get a regular device and put the extra $$ to a ton of accessories at that point.
