The main things holding me back from upgrading from my nearly perfect galaxy note 9 are 1. SD cards, I love poping in an sd card and never worring about space at all ever, I can download hundreds of hours of netflix, disney, and prime to my card plus all my high rez pics and videos plus games and whatever else. Losing SD is too much of a sacrifice for how I use my phone. 2. The S pen is awesome I could live without it but it adds so much like the remote shutter, easy screen shots, drawing, etc. 3. Long forgotten extras like the LG days; IR remote sensor to replace all my tv remotes with my phone, a second always on display like my lg v20, removable batteries for when they inevitably start to degrade in charging, etc. To me it seems like every generation of phone loses some cool features, sure it's great that phones get slimmer but I like the swiss army knife approach "will I ever need this tooth pick? Maybe and when you do it'll be great to have it." Phones are my do everything replace everything device. I guess what I'm saying is personally I want a phone that adds more features not takes them away.

I am getting this phone, but mainly because it is going to be my first foldable. If I already had a Fold 4, I very much doubt that I would bother getting this one.
I think the narrow front screen is jarring at first, but I can imagine myself getting use to it. I will be mainly using it for checking notifications and quickly replying to messages using swipe typing. Everything else I will be unfolding it for anyway.
Personally the battery doesn't concern me as the main selling point for me is the form factor, but that and the battery are definitely areas where the Samsung folds can improve. They're decent now, but they could be better.
If it's your first one it's a win for sure!!!
I agree with all of these, especially the need for a wider outer screen and a beefing up of the camera. Samsung should invest in some greater software optimization for images if they are going to go with the hardware they have for cameras right now.

I am getting this phone soon. It will be my first foldable. Not too worried about outside screen size as it will be for checking notifications, one hand texting with swipe, and calls. I'm pretty excited.
Calling it now, won't be long before we see z fold ultra, with s pen included, and much larger screens. If they kept the phone length and made it as wide as pixel fold itd be perfect

Just got my 1st fold a couple of weeks ago and I see no issue with the front screen. I have big hands and just use swipe typing. People tent to forget that there was a time we all were typing on 3.5 inch screens and I think we all seemed to manage.

Imagine you are at the beach fold wide open, you get up in a hurry and close your phone later to find out sand destroyed the already sensitive screen. Smashed together by 2 soft screens is some friendly grains of sand etching away at the foldable plastic layer.

Im on the fence about the fold 5. The points here dont bother me that much. A question for those that have a fold 5 by now; does the s pen catch the crease if you drag the pen nib over it? The larger screen and s pen is the draw for me as an artist (why i have my note 9) but ifnit catches in the crease thats an immediate no for me.

As a woman with smaller hands i honestly love the smaller outer display i just wish the cameras were in line with the s series.
brighter screen. New hinge, better chip, tri band vs dual band of the fold 4, and faster storage. Was enough for me to upgrade from the 4. I just wish the would add thunder bolt file transfer..

It's an upgrade for me from s22 ultra. Hate the curve and sd8gen1 from s22 ultra. Wanna try how fold 5 feels. And also got alot of discount on pre-order, buying zfold 5 for around $689.

Yes 100 %. I used Samsung from 2010-2017. From 2017-now I’ve had IPhones, which were great. But after using similar iPhones, it became repetitive and not much of an upgrade.
imm about to preorder my fold 5 and coming from a power user and a student that has a s21 ultra, i cannt really find any problems peresonnnally with the fold 5, thenn again, i dont own a fold 4 so i couldnnt really care about the lack of upgradwes
Well its more about what they didn't upgrade from fold 4. If it's not an upgrade for you it's a fine phone.

maybe its just me because but i have no problem seeing or using the front screen on the fold 5 this is my first folding phone and all the reviews about the front screen had me worried but honestly i havent had any issues

I don't understand why people complain so much about the fold/flip.. if you want a bigger screen than just buy a non-foldable phone.. people should really read the article released from samsung in the reasoning behind why they made certain decisions on the fold 5's design before making a review video. 😮💨
This is not a review. It's a list of complaints I personally have. I think I made this fairly clear in the video.
The reason I took my galaxy fold 4 back and got the galaxy s22 ultra is when folded the screen is too narrow. I found myself using it more while folded and the screen was too small.

Just t ordered Fold 5. 899 with S21 ultra trade in and 49 for Buds Pro2 on Samsung. First foldable. Hope i like it.
Just bought yesterday. Today I just decide to bring my z fold 5 along on a 2 hour journey. I brought my z fold 5 while on the go for a test to see pros and cons. forget about pros. the cons I found out is that it's not suitable to use while on the go. front cover screen is too small not suitable for my eye while walking and using the z fold front cover screen. just using google map make me feel to uncomfortable. unfolded screen is just not right when using because of the risk I might drop it or it more vunerable to be stolen. crap. while on the bus on my way home just watching a movie it's just my hand holding on the phone sometime I got a lot of accidental touch and it's unwanted.
Wont uprgade to the Fold 5, love my Fold 4, not enough upgrades. Every phone has something you wont like. I choose to get what I like and roll with it. You are awesome and we appreciate you, I learn so much from you. Samsung should show you some appreciation❤

@@jspring86 I have big hands. I have no problems at all with it. You not gonna use the front display that much anyway for heavy use. And quickly sending a message is perfectly fine.

The decision to upgrade form fold. 4 to the fold 5 is not an easy decision.

I thought about it , as much as I want a new phone. The fold 5 is not a new phone, same phone as the 4. Extra brightness I don't need and a marginally improved Chip. It is the same phone, very disappointing. Don't care about the hinge, still has a visible bend in the screen.

Maybe I'm the outlier, but I disagree with a lot of your points.
A larger cover screen would make it more usable but at increased costs and decreased accessibility. People with medium to small size hands would be unable to use the cover screen one handed. I do agree that the cover screen is probably too small for the average US user, but they are not just catering to solely the west. They also have to account for the size difference between men and women's hands.
I don't use the s pen on my fold 3 so integration into the phone wouldn't give me a benefit. And there's a potential that to make room for the pen and attempt to keep the same size they might have to cut into battery space, meaning a phone with less capacity.
Faster charging is also at the expense of battery life longevity. The reason most Chinese phones don't care about this is they sell their phones dirt cheap(comparatively) to the ones not in China. If you can change phones every year the battery life longevity doesn't matter.
Well I think larger cover screen is coming so prepare thyself! Fold 6 is happening

NO This series design flaw is the two flex cables joining the two halves of the phone. I got mine for 2 years and fixed it twice! Shame on samsung in selling this saying it can withstand 200000 folds. It clearly did not!

The only reason I'd go from the 23u is for the s pen on board. I do a lot of drawing sketchbook is great on my S23 u was hoping the fold was next step... I'll stick to phone and tablet.

Would it be fair to say that the Fold 5 should be thought of as the "Fold 4S"? It's basically doing for Samsung's Fold line what the S used to represent to the iPhone.
I like your idea of an S-pen silo. As far as it making the phone thicker; it already has a protruding camera bump that keeps it from laying flat without a case. I think they should extend the camera bump down the full height of the phone and then make a special short Fold Edition S-Pen to fit in that cavity. That way you'd have your pen, it'd be integrated in a way that looks nice, and it would allow a fully unfolded case-less Fold 6 to sit on a table and be used without rocking.

Samsung made a Samsung case where the pen doesn’t protrude. It would be great to have the pen inserted into the phone itself but there’s already a lot of tech in the Fold phone. We’re in a golden era for phones.

Who types with two hands on a phone like this? One handed typing is super easy on the Fold 4. As for when its open, you don't need to use the split keyboard, you can use a small one-handed keyboard nested in one of the bottom corners.
Camera wise, the sensors are the same as the 4 but the 8+ Gen 2 has different image processing vs. the 8+ Gen 1. Pixel Fold's cameras are not the Pixel Pro cameras, they're the Pixel non-Pro/A cameras. The Pixel Fold's technical camera capabilities are essentially equivalent to the Fold 4, with the difference being subjective preference in processing.
25W charging is not "slow" - my Fold 4 charges from 5% to 50% in about 10 minutes. Peak wattage rates advertised by the Chinese companies aren't as amazkng as they sound in practice.

Even if the Folding phones were 'perfect', they're not for everybody. Nothing beats a candybar phone. Only a handful of phone users actually 'multitask', and even that only between two apps; and even a midrange phone can do that perfectly well. I almost fell for the hype and traded in my S23 Ultra, but decided against it. Waiting for the S24. Great review though. ❤

Please no one buy these phones Samsung wil do everything in there power not to fix these phones when they break. Myself and a friend have been stuck with broken Samsung fold 4s. I'm currently in a battle with Samsung about the fold 4. Plus coming from an s21 ultra I miss that phone like mad. BTW the phone broke on the fold a line has appeared somethingunder the screen has poked through. They trying to charge me £538
