You know, I feel the plot hole issues with this movie would justify a new movie coming along to retcon the sequels. Hell, I can even think of a few ideas on how to do that. Imagine a reboot/sequel, that's basically a complete reimagining - or even replacement - of Critters 2. Have it imply itself to be the story that takes place immediately after the events of the first original film. It would follow the Brown family again. There are many different stories you could tell using this base. In one pitch, you could say that "the critter event" (or whatever you would call the last film) did suffer media prodding and gossip but still lived in the same house, and the timeline of this new film can vary. It can be as short as a few months, or you could imply it took many years - maybe as many as 10 - for the eggs to hatch. Either way, let's say the critters don't just start killing the Brown's immediately. Let's say it's implied or even shown to us that the babies that hatched from the first movie's eggs had spread out far from their nesting location, as if by instinct, to spread out and eat fast. Have it implied or shown to be luck that the Browns themselves never noticed. Maybe the neighbor's dog being eaten would be the first bit of foreshadowing that Bradly notices, like he recognizes the bite marks and worries the critters are back, but this paranoia is discarded after enough time passes with nothing bad happening. At least from the family's perspective, because in this movie, the crites immediately bailed out from their nest in the family's farm and left town super fast. The horror would start as people in town start dying again. Bradly immediately catches on, and trembles over the idea of the nightmare returning. Maybe no one believes him at first as he tries to warn everyone. Maybe things get scarier as the deaths in town get closer and closer to the Brown family's general area. Like the crites are slowly coming back, specifically, to come and get their family once and for all. That would be the new focus of the movie's psychological horror element. The terrifying idea that the monsters really are coming back to the same family and it's personal. How Bradly fights this threat is up to you to decide. He could get the bounty hunters back like last time, maybe the town still fortifies in some way. Maybe they still win in the same silly way. But personally, I think a general tonal shift would be great for this reimagining. As much as I liked the vanity of seeing the town explored, I really miss the claustrophobic and yet somehow very isolated and vulnerable feeling that the ORIGINAL film had in its atmosphere. The original was still a little goofy, but definitely tried harder on the horror side. It actually was a very moody film with very creepy moments where you feel vulnerable and defenseless. This was thrown away when you brought in the focus on the town banding together and recognizing the threat. That level of exposure made the crites way less scary in Critters 2, which in general was a much more goofy film that embraced itself a bit too strong imo. Now don't get me wrong - I actually like the goofiness of this film and even the stuff with the town, I thought the expansion was interesting. It's just that I think a better kind of sequel story could be possible. A kind of story that unfortunately can't function with that much cheese and awareness towards the alien threat. As for my pitch above, there are two very different paths to take next - one where the Brown family lives, and one where they actually all die. See, there are also ways to turn this really dark. The town still existed in the first film, but it was much colder in tone than the second film. The first one managed to be really good at making the protagonist seem cut off from the rest of the world, relying only on the bounty hunters for rescue. Besides any of this, another silly idea you could use is maybe a retconning sequel shows up that just immediately kills off the entire Brown family right at the prologue, and it's implied they die like right after the events of the first film. It's kind of a giant slap in the face and almost disrespectful even to the original film, but for some reason it's hilarious enough for me to like it - the idea of a new movie overwriting Critters 2, and completely shitting on the Brown family in the opening scene, just to do a time skip and show the critters moving on to other states or even countries, but have it be implied that the world doesn't quite seem to be aware of them. This allows you to have sequels that take place with basically any human family being targeted by the aliens.

Gotta diss agree on this one no its not as scary as the first an the time line of the eggs hatching dosent work.But this is a fun movie with cool effects the Critter ball is awesome.Honestly the first 2 are the only ones really worth watching.
I'm pretty sure the town was a set. There's a group on Facebook called Critters Rehatched that has pictures of the place where it was filmed. I'm glad there are other people that don't think this is the greatest thing ever. Most people only remember this one when you mention Critters, mainly the bunny scene, and a lot of fans like it more than the first. But I love the first, and I just don't like the comedy and lack of horror in the second. I'm really looking forward to the reaction of Critters 3. That should be hilarious.
It seems that Iain doesn't like this, or the third, (haven't watched your review for the fourth yet) simply because of the slapstick? Yeah, maybe this shouldn't have gone down such a goofy route like they did with the chucky movies, but its not really all that bad! In fact I would say that the worst of the four IS the fourth one. The third one is the first that I ever saw except for a clip from the first one when I was a kid... long story... I like the third, the first and the second.
Always loved this one as a kid , enjoy first one more now , critters 3 has the distinctive credit of "introducing Leonardo dicaprio" and 4 is just dodgey.
It was one of my favourites as a kid but rewatching was a mistake , same with poltergeist 2 loved it still do in places but it's a bit disjointed and doesn't flow that well .
