I still remember the first time I saw this movie when it was released to theaters, I was 8-years-old (yes, 8-years-old, thank God my parents trusted me enough that I could divorce fantasy from reality); the first time Chucky comes alive on screen terrified me. I can still hear the women in the audience scream at that moment. His performance, his shouting, his swearing - it was like a nightmare coming true. Another entertaining set of reviews. Thank you!
Child's Play came out when I was 7 years old, terrified of dolls and had been given a My Buddy doll only a little while before. That thing ended up in the far back of the closet. I still hate dolls.
You know in 1993 all the video libraries in Liverpool took Child's Play 3 off the shelves when it was reported that the video rented by the father of one of the ten year-old boys who murdered James Bulger the day before they murdered him was Child's Play 3. What seemed to support that claim was that James Bulger's body was left on a railway track, and he was about the size of a Chucky doll.
But the police dismissed this claim totally. There’s no evidence to support either of those two murdering bastards watched the film. And what relevance does the train tracks have in relation to child’s play 3 may I ask?
@@silverscreenreviews8521 Back in those days, parents were looking for any kind of reason to blame horror movies on their kids behavior or horrible upbringing. They still do till this day.
@@Gideon13397 What @Francis X.Lord describes happened up and down the UK. It was strange in that there hadn't been that much debate surrounding these kind of films in the UK since the video nasty hysteria of the early 80s. The censorship of gore and violence was largely originating from the states at the time..... The studios were self censoring before the films even made it to these shores and it was just accepted that us having an 18 rating (vs the US 'R' rating) would take care of the rest. When the company executives are talking in the beginning and explaining that they rebuilt the toy to make sure a tester didn't mess with his voice box, the one guy says to his boss that the cops denied the mother's reports of a killer doll. So they became assholes who'd rather see his mom carted off then look crazy themselves.
Child's Play (1988): Not just a great horror film, but a great film overall and easily my favorite of the whole franchise. Child's Play 2: A great slasher film. Not quite on par with the first, but still really good. Child's Play 3: Not bad, enjoyable, but becoming repetitive. The "scariness" of Chucky is starting to wear off and some of the acting leaves something to be desired.
Maybe it takes longer because Andy already has a soul and that soul needs to go away before Charles can transfer his soul into Andy's body. The doll was an empty shell. No muss, no fuss, no soul.
Chucky's my favorite killer because of just how expression and real he is, he's not just some dumb lumbering figure of doom, he feels like a very real psychopath personality wise, I bet there are genuinely people like Charles out there
I remember when I was little, I’ve always thought the Good Guy Doll Factory was actually in Chicago but in reality it’s in Long Beach, California. Haha
In almost every movie with Brad Dourif when he speaks, I close my eyes and i see the chucky doll speaking, haha, I first saw him in the movie Fatal Beauty. cool flick, have you done a review on it? have a good one guys.
Great review guys! If you're gonna review the iconic little killer, you might as well review the lesser iconic little killer that arrived in the 90s. Leprechaun film reviews in the future, perhaps?
Brad Dourif will be at Go Atomic! Pop Culture & Fan Expo in Sydney (Australia) on 18 and 19 January 2020. The venue (Hordern Pavilion) is really cool too - lots of bands play there! What an opportunity to grab a pic or signature from the man himself. I know i'll be there!
Very glad I found you guys. My parents let me watch this far too young. I had nightmares of Chucky for so long. Until I killed him. Right around adolescence, I fucked him up. Never had a nightmare with him again after that. Anyway .... We are about the same age, love the channel. Your review of Drop Dead Fred, and Big Trouble in Little China, they got me here. The original child's play trilogy is a guilty pleasure of mine. Love the comedy ( that is a minimal) and the horror aspects... I feel that the layer sequels played the film's as comedy not horror until the cult movies ( which are then too serious ) There's a perfect blend of horror and comedy that the first 3 movies put into place that was never recreated
You know what's funny about the Chucky movies? Is that Chucky would be living proof that voodoo is the correct religion. Nobody practices voodoo after encountering Chucky.
The reason I love the first film so much, is because its really the only movie in the franchise that really shows chucky morphing into being human-like. Sure his nose bled in 2... but he still looked 100% like a doll. Missed opportunity in the sequels if you ask me.
Childs play gave me nightmares from age 8 till 13. I had already seen a Nightmare on Elmstreet, Friday the 13, Halloween, Evil Dead, Helraiser, Aliens and many other horror films (yes i know, but it was the early 90s). Nothing got to me untill this little red bastard. Its strange, even now while beeing 38 i stil get chils when i see a chucky film.
Honestly while the imagery of the sequence is terrifying, the whole trash compactor kill is too over the top unbelievably stupid and forced. The whole third film feels that way to me nowadays.
Fun fact I hate creepy dolls because they give me the creeps but Chucky I don’t hate in fact I love the maniacal little maniac because he makes me laugh
🖐 Hello. I'm now subscribed. I hope you're still making videos and if you can peeps tell me what other channels I should check out because somehow I missed this one. G'day.
The concept of Chucky is a great one and he is one of the best slasher characters probably ever. Think I still prefer the first film to part 2 a bit, but 2's a very solid sequel. Its different enough and the stuff in the factory at the end is really well done. The third film's really bad IMO. It's because of it that the series went in a fresh direction.
Probably the more rancid opinions I've ever heard on child's play 2. The moment you said they didn't mention the cops from the first movie I knew you probably didn't pay attention
Cabbage Patch dolls were a huge hit for girls in the 80’s. I worked at a toy store, so I witnessed the craze. I’ve always believed Chucky is based on the ‘My Buddy’ doll though, which was a less popular doll aimed at boys. In fact, ‘Good Guy’ doll seems to be a total rip-off of it, and I bet they got sued. I think a lot of moms bough that My Buddy doll bc of all the commercials, but few boys actually played with them, so they were a relatively brief fad...or maybe Chucky killed their brand. m.ruclips.net/video/OJDg2g1COyc/видео.html

I still remember the audience, in a packed theater, cheered at Andy's response.
Best line n the movie

10:36 that doll is scarier than Chucky! Look at those black eyes. That is horrifying!!
Child's Play 2 was actually the film that introduced me to the Chucky franchise
" this is the end friend "
One of the worst best lines of 80s horror
I always found the garbage man scene sad until chucky does that little laugh and it goes from sad to hilarious in 5 seconds lol
