Editor's Note: My edits were all made to keep the video on one, central topic by editing together relevant commentary from many parts of Hasan's streams to create a storyline that is still followable by the viewer. I also edited in commentary of my own in places, in addition to relevant external information that improves the viewing experience. A lot of edits were made for comedy purposes, or to enhance the comedic timing of certain beats, but never to misrepresent Hasan's point of view.
If you like my edits, leave a Comment, Like, and Subscribe. It helps a lot, thank you :)

Shout out to The CIA for sponsoring today's video!
PagMan CIA is here
Johnny Harris truly is CIA
Hell Yeah
i knew it
2 things I was taken aback by:
- I didn’t know Bangladeshi Piracy and Strait of Malacca Piracy had a huge presence.
- Switzerland and Italy dumping toxic waste around Somalia with Somalian Government’s help and the international community not batting an eyelid.
Disposal of garbage and toxic waste by rich countries into poor countries is probably one of things that infuriate me the most in the world. Especially when these rich countries tout their ecological friendliness at home.
There was no Somali government then. They managed to get corrupt warlords who have no legitimacy to accept it
@@guillaumelagueyte1019yea the "we are in this together" western attitude is really annoying
You wouldn’t steal a ship, so why would you download a movie?
Well shiver me timbers, guess I'll have to go walk the plank... ☠
I would download a ship though.
I'd download a pirate who can steal a ship for me
I would
Newest 'Ship of Theseus' analogy just dropped.
Pirate history is insane and honestly one of those most fansinating cultures that rose from the ashes during the early days of international colonization. Highly reccomend a deep dive!
'Archer' and 'Pirates of the Caribbean' don't get enough credit, cartoonish as they are.
Joseph Conrad! Jack London too!
When the top of the hour ad break announcement is so good you don't even need to speed thru it 👌
I love how the Chat didnt know that Blackbeard was a real person..😂😂😂😂 Gotta love the failings of modern education.
He does sound like a folk tale to be fair
I consider myself to be a bit into history but for a longest time I thought the christian crusades to middle east were either fantasy, or just planned or even tried and failed, I didn't realise they had Christian kingdoms in the middle east for ~100 years because we just weren't taught at school.
I don't understand how piracy in the Caribbean (let alone the names of specific pirates) is relevant to a school program. The slave trade is a way more important aspect of this region's recent history than piracy is.
Don't get me wrong, pirates are cool and stuff, but blaming the education system for someone not knowing that Blackbeard was an actual person seems weird. Especially weird in the case of a semi-mythical character like him where it's impossible to know exactly what's true and what's false about the records that mention him.
Oh well...
I think privateers would be much more relevant to a school program than just the pirates looting the trade around the Caribbean
@@michealjackson3520when you don't teach history. Everything sounds like a folktale. Look at how some people in the South talk about slavery! "Oh c'mon but it wasn't THAT bad right?"
I tiny thing: thank you for putting the little glitch sound effect when you put those boxes on the screen. I'm usually not looking at the screen and just listening. Then I tune in when I hear that sound
Really enjoying the editors speech bubbles slowly getting more sassy over time
8:13 OMG I made the same point. Western Imperialism had Warlords too. We just call them Colonialists.
Pirates were not all poor men. Women were pirates too, Johnny. 🏴☠️🦜
Yeah....like Big Mom
Yes, mfs think Vikings out and about at sea were (majorly) men💀💀
@@kobil316SH I'm partial to Anne Bonny. Legend.
Poor choice of words. But lets be honest. Any aspect that involves violence and crime is absolutely dominaated by Men. Women are outliers in organised crime. Because only Men are dumb enough to engage in it.
Love Johnny saying "piracy was solved" at the end. Do they have stable, legal employment, good housing etc and legal methods of social mobility? No? They're just no longer able to disrupt marine commerce and have gone back to near starvation trying to fish for a living? Well at least we don't have to waste "the best snipers in the world" on them any more huh Johnny?
Piracy was solved, just not the Somali crisis
Based. If Marine snipers want more luve training, they know where to go.
The legacy of pirates is complicated they were very progressive and egalitarian at times. But they also had it in them to be colossal murderious assholes, the pirate raids against China during the 16th,17th and 19th centuries for example were so brutal the government had to relocate the entire coastal population at times.
Pirates represent the fascist wing of anarchist thinking
that makes no sense fascism is litterally authoritarianism you cant be both @@sunnohh
That's partially due to Chinese dynasties banning sea trade, so now you have a bunch of merchants with their armed ships and crew trying to find a new job. During the Ming a merchant-pirate confederation defeated the imperial navy and became the imperial navy, finally got stable pay.
@@sunnohhright because communist anarchists would never raid anyone right ? 😹
I couldn’t help myself I was doing the one piece ost with him😂
Pirates were the first people to adopt alternative lifestyles and try and form an alternative state in Nassau.
Also the Captains were elected and had no more or less power than any other crew member in terms of what they were going to attack… his role was more as the head sailor and decision maker under pressure.
He also would never have has his own cabin. But then most pirates were land based and only used ships to attack. Ships with decks removed to gain a speed advantage.
Reminds me of Assassin's Creed Black Flag.
I don't know what you mean by "alternative", but whatever definition you use, there were societies living like that since the beginning of time. Also, while it was the rule that captains had kept no private cabins, there were many exceptions (Blackbeard being the most famous). While you are not completely wrong in what you say, I think your image of pirates is a bit idealized.
which pirates? and source?
@@ambatuBUHSURK many sources I have read pretty much any book published on pirates. Most recently… Nigel Cawthorne: Pirates: The Truth Behind the Robbers of the High Seas. Good read.

yes I have a life. No I don't have a girlfriend... help me 😢
As Somali the pirates were rightfully defending their water, after our government and navy fell there was a void and Western countries take advantage of it and stole many resources From our water, but there is no more pirates in Somalia and our country is recovering now.
More editors notes, my fav clipping channel now!
The part where he describes what a warlord as a person who amasses wealth and then hires gunman to protect it 😂 you mean literally everyone
Yes.
This is the nature of disorganized/anarchic/capitalist economies.
Until the people themselves have power, 'history' will be written with the sweat and blood of the working poor and the labor pool waiting to replace them, managed by strongmen.
I knew this since the first ep, the intro goes hard
If the Somali government gives them the official blessing, they're privateers, not pirates. Pirates were people who took from the merchant class but weren't subservient to the mercantilist class. It's a bit like the difference between terrorists and patriots; the distinction is largely whether the person writing history agreed with your cause or not.
Also, 'local' traffic would often get a pass. Piracy continue long enough and it just becomes a trade tariff. Or Troy.
Idrc pirates are badass
they’re protecting their waters they’re based asf
Anyone know the name of the Johnny Harris short that makes fun of Hasan?
that ad segue wrinkled my brain
There’s a great episode on ’Puppet History’ about a female pirate, if anyone is interested.
Edit: The chat mentions it, I think
watching 6 month later and the ad hitting exactly on time is so funny
how dare he sing the drums of liberation
Thise small boats made it look like an X-wing VS deathstar
Cross apply the pirate business model to the modern US car business. Not as dissimilar as the GM CEO would like to admit.
Try that in the grand line😂
Here's to Jony Fepp and Stirling Bircher, teaching us all about the cool pie ratayes.
does anybody have a reference to what hasan said about Blackbeard´s betrayal? I cant seem to find it
Lol. I love the people that are like, "pirates are the bad guys."
Yeah. Of course. But stealing from colonizing thugs who themselves pillaged and plundered is a little... Well... Whatever.
Lol the fact that someone asked if it was one piece … funny
Took a sec to recognize his beat box of freedom
They're sailing out for the grand line.
thanks to the cia for the upload
0:35 deep stuff johnny... 😂
All the One Piece references are going over my head, I still haven't watched it 😅
Watch the anime instead of the manga. 4 episodes a week is solid pace.
As an old, its wild to remember that this is actually like a 30-year arc. Almost my whole adult lifetime, on the other side of the world.
But also. You can go back in US history and well beyond.
To quote someone:"Peoples dreams never die!" Zehahaha😂
The whole historical pirate convo was so dumb because both Hasan and chat were trying to condense literally centuries worth of people that today we would call pirates today with such a broad brush.
Yes but also the vast majority of pirates (at every time in history) were slave traders and that alone makes them bad on principle
Pirates is a pretty broad category
My son watches Santiago of the Seas… there are good pirates my friends 😂
Sometime I get annoyed that Pausan takes forever to make a simple fucking point
I was actually a contractor working on ships to guard against Somali pirates. Shit was wild
Oakland California is having issues with pirates stealing ppls boats

"Pirates bad cause they steal from companies, companies good cause they steal from workers" - Johnny Harris
What if I’m looking for the One Piece? 😤
Those arent pirates wheres the eye patch and parrot?
So Kim Jong Un looks like Kaya
The one piece is real
Hassan being too much of a jackass to see Johnny is levels above him in every topic. Hassan is too busy with these labels “liberals” and “conservatives” and seems to be casting this “liberal” shadow of doubt on Harris when he makes balanced and unbiased videos that Hassan pauses to take words out of context and accuse Harris of being this or that🤦♂️
What they are doing is bad but they are the people who have suffered in the past. If the people who stole from them gave back what they took then they wouldn't have done this.
There are no good pirates. Also, there doesn’t have to be a ‘good guy’ or ‘bad guy’. Everyone can be trash.
2:20 Truly transformative... 😂
I would have liekd to watch this, but alas, the one piece talk gets too much. I've just entered the entered the grandline in the anime.
I don't care for piracy as long as it does not go as far as ransom/kidnapping, at that point I have no sympathy for pirates.
I love the viewer that said, Why would you watch Johnny if you are a leftwinger... umm maybe because if you only watched leftwing shit, You will go through life not knowing the full truth, That you would be just another sheep.
"Full truth"
What does that mean?
@@Cussy69_420 It means not believing everything you hear from 1 side, Like the rest of the right and left that are sheep. All big media is bias.

And if you only listen to CNN, You would think all cops are bad, Capitalism is horrible, Bla bla bla.

not surprised at all to learn that pirates are based. who else but the rich could afford to be on the ocean w a souped up boat???
Yeah got to love guys who sell people into slavery, murder sailors, torture and pillage, very based!
The pirates shooting at civilians, stealing money to build villas and buy western cars were not, in fact, based 🤦🏾♂️
