Todd is so patient. He continues to explain his career over and over again, always with such grace. He's a living legend.

Agreed. However, I certainly wish those who conduct interviews come up with some interesting and unique questions. Todd will certainly provide a thorough and thoroughly interesting answer. An interesting question, even if not a great one, was a question I heard asked [by Kasim Sulton if I remember correctly] was" Have you ever eaten a crayon?". I mean this guy doesn't seem to actually know when Todd was inducted into the RRHoF, nor his reason for his ambivalence about it. I don't know who Adam Carolla is, but I'm not impressed.

@@UltraVTV420 Todd is not on the radar of the general music-loving public. His catalog is so very unique and unusual. But the questions were so very generic! Oh, well. At least they had him on and Adam seemed to really appreciate him. I just read a piece about Todd in this week's New Yorker Magazine. Brief but sweet.

Great interview with Todd. When I was in my 20s I saw him for the first time in Indy in a club, the guys I was with talked me into knocking on his trailer after show. I’m thinking I’m not a groupie. I just love music. And I loved Todd’s music. So I knocked lightly not having a clue as to how I was gonna explain why I’m there (other than telling myself don’t make an ass out of yourself.). Well I was walking away when Todd opened the door. He just invited me in. His back up singer was there (eventually his wife). He didn’t ask why are you here so that hurdle was overcome. And yes I did make an ass out of myself. I rambled on about his music, something about Midnight special. Hell I don’t remember. They were so nice and gracious. I didn’t want to take up to much of their time so after awhile I asked if I could have an autograph. All I had in my purse to write on was a teeny phone/address book. He said “I’ll put it right by Lionel Ritchie.” I laughed thinking he thinks I’m a groupie and like pop (though I did LOVE the Commodores). Anyway maybe a week later I realized it was because his last name was R and so was Ritchie. Hahaha. He actually put it in the Qs by mistake. Anyway got to meet him and he and his lady friend were no nice as idiotic as I must’ve sounded. Still got that address book somewhere…

I unfortunately did get a divorce (he was cheating, I knew it, refused to say him explicitly being sexual to coworkers was okay), I couldn’t do it anymore. It was hard on my kids and honestly harder for me. The days they were with their dad were excruciating for me. When you’re a mom you never fathom you’ll miss a day in their life. Didn’t help he was immediately in a relationship with woman he “was definitely not” having an affair with and remarried shortly thereafter. I’m rambling on but what Todd said struck a nerve. It is hurtful. Todd is my favorite of all time - he's a wonder to me since about 1970. I was 7. 59 years old now. My young adult daughters (age 22) now share the love and respect for his music, and will carry it on. He gave us these gifts, and I gave it to my kids. I can separate the differing world views between myself and this artist, and I wish he could too. He must not understand that kind people with huge hearts and love for the world can see things differently. It's very conflicting to me daily, to be honest, as I will not stop listening to his music, and singing his praises regardless. He's the only one I'd care to see in concert again in these weird times. But I don't want my heart broken in person. The words in his song "Parallel Lines" sum it up, I guess. Beautiful song. But sad.

"Huge Todd fan" as in you still follow his career? Or "huge" fan of the hits from your era? Nothing wrong with the later but a HUGE fan, stays a fan. Todd is not a Trump fan. The song Tin Foil Hat from White Knight is about Trump. It's a great song. Here's a quote from Todd “If you’re a Trump supporter, don’t come to my show, because you won’t have a good time; you will likely be offended”

Surprised that you enjoy his music while disagreeing with his politics when half his songs represent ideals that are in direct opposition to the Trump administrations goals.

There's many parts to being a producer.
One is to make sure that stuff actually gets recorded, rather than the band just sitting around doing drugs.
Another is to direct the cohesive sound of the album and to make sure it's well recorded.
Todd's most famous production, Meatloaf's _Bat Out of Hell,_ Todd directed the band, played guitar, did most of the background vocals, and did all the arrangements. Jim Steinman wrote the songs, but could not actually write music, and according to Meatloaf, Steinman would *hum* what he wanted to Todd, who would turn it into actual band arrangements.
With XTCs _Skylarking,_ Todd picked all the songs from a bunch of demos, arranged them into an order that made sense. Andy Partridge got all miffed because Todd picked songs that were actually written by another member of the band. (And he was annoyed that Todd was so much _better_ at sarcasm than he was.)
With other albums, like the one for the _Tubes,_ Todd wrote songs for the band, and recorded guide vocals to give them an idea exactly what it should sound like.
As Todd told more than one of the bands that he was working with, _"If you know what you want, I can get it for you. If you don't know what you want, I can do it for you."_
