Todd is a genius, for sure. It's wonderful to see such an accomplished musician as Steinman be so forthright. SO many do not understand Todd, and likely never will. Steinman is an exception, thankfully. Todd will never be appreciated for his genius in my lifetime. It is what it is.
I was 3 years old when Todd Wrote Hello It's Me / I just love this song so much /I sang the song on my Facebook / He is amazing ,awesome ,and a fantastic performer 📻🎹❤️🎤🎷🎸
Holy CRAP!...what a twisted interview! Love Todd though and sadly, with all the other shit going on on the world the last couple of years, I didn't realize Jim Steinman had died, so this is the first thing I went to, just finding out now, 11Pm, West Coast time USA, January 7th, 2022
Imagine being called a genius by Jim Steinman. Hats off to you, Todd Rundgren! I'm not that familiar with his original work, but I know he's a brilliant producer.
What is ironic about this is Meatloaf didn't have much input into the creation of the album, but the average person knows who Meatloaf is, and not Jim or Todd.
Bummer that Meatloaf was not in synch with Todd and Jim. Probably for the best. Meat was a great talent but did not always have the best artistic judgment.
My experience meeting him when he found out I had the same first name as he and my friend did too clasped all of our hands together and made an eerie science fiction whine saying "It's the terrible Todd triune!" It was a good time.
@@aliensporebomb I really like Steinman's lowkey way of talking about him. Lots of respect, some distressing stuff. And you believe him about all of it. I remember Todd at a show in Hartford in the 80's, really whaling on his guitar tech for messing up. It killed the happy vibe of the show, and afterwards I never had the same urge to buy tickets as I had before. He's a supremely gifted person who has acknowledged that at times he's been a jerk. That whole post-Lennon stuff must have been awful, and I think he began to reassess the nature of his engagement with the world.
The thing is that exceptional will mean that the person is not average or easy. Exceptional means outside of. Sure it should not mean being a jerk, but at the same time, exceptional will mean that the person wanting to be average will find the "outside" approach confronting. Note how Steinmann says he spent time trying to soak up how it worked. He engaged with Todd. Meat would have been upset at that exchange, but at the same time, he could have asked "Why would that be wrong?" either at that time or at the bar after. Not engaging meant that Todd sidelined him whilst he focused on getting the job done. The job that in the end totally made Meatloaf a career for life. :-)
A guy is a genius at something..then... he often says "Oh that's too easy I want to move on and do this other stuff" THAT'S what pisses me off about Todd.I don't care about HIS personal "Growth" I want pop hit after pop hit!

Always knew Todd was amazing. Steinman was such a great story teller. It's no wonder he wrote so many great songs.
I love Jim Steinman. His mind goes miles a minute in this interview. He was brilliant.
Great interview Jim, Todd is a Genius!
Todd is amazing and a genius
The stuff about Todd Rundgren and the vocals - never heard that before
RIP Mr Steinmann. Love you.

What a great interview. So honest, and I trust very accurate.

I have been in awe of TR since The Nazz. Steinman's "impersonation" of Todd is freakin' spot on!
He's so great in this interview - he does Randy Newman (+ piano), Phil Rizzuto and, of course, Meat Loaf as well.
The anecdote about the motorcycle guitar is one of my favourite things
Steinman is spot on
Todd is underrated
where can i find this rating?

Do yourself a LARGE favor and get into Todd! Start with the RUNT elpee and just keep digging it...
@@victorhawkins3461 Will do. Thank you!
Takes my breath away.
Todd was/is magick and brilliant.
Todd bought a beautiful plot of land in Hawaii with amazing views -- and he built this amazing home there -
Incase you haven't seen it you should look up Todd Rundgren - Live '11 Daryl's House

Really great interview!
Was amazed to find out that Jim produced the second and third Sisters of Mercy LPs.

Todd is a mad man genius.

@@BenedictRoffMarsh I had the impression that Rundgren may have found Meatloaf distasteful, more than what you stated.

Why is Jon Living doing Jim?
Lovitz
I have a beef with TR.
‘Love is the Answer’ ?
While he obviously hates Donald Trump.
‘Tin Foil Hat’? Hipocrite.
So...in order to not be a hypocrite, he needs to love a monster like Trump? Does he need to love Hitler, too?

you sound like a horrible record executive
imagine seeing someone evolve creatively and wanting to stifle that because you, the consumer, want “pop hits” 🤡🤡🤡
