As a teenage girl around this time, I found Todd to be absolutely fascinating. He was uniquely attractive to me. I got to meet him once when I was in my early 20s after a concert. He was very nice and took pictures with us and signed autographs so it was not disappointing to meet one of my heroes.
Excellent "lost" interview. The date I put on it is November, '73, since the interviewer said that "the President just fired everybody". The "Saturday night massacre happened on 10/20/1973. Todd waxes quite prescient in the last 5 minutes of the video. How can you not love Todd ?!
Beautiful timepiece. Kudos to the interviewer, as silly as he seemed. He actually did a great job. Interestingly, Todd really hasn't changed all that much.
So amazing to see this rare interview and the Todd I found April ‘72. It instantly struck me that he already had his habit of saying ‘stuff like that’, which he still does 🤩
Refusing to play one of his biggest hits at the time. Everything I love and admire about the artist is on full display here, even this early on in the game. Balls deluxe....
Oooof, it's hard to listen to an interviewer who obviously did not listen to Todd's music, let alone get the song title(s) right. Todd was/is/will always be one of the most amazing artists in modern history.
I love how Todd got the guitar tuned and started singing! Really amazed by his confidence and being vocally ready! Beautifully talented and great sense of humor
A lot of criticism for the interviewer here but this is one of Todd’s most relaxed & forthcoming interviews, especially in the early years when he was socially awkward & could come across as almost unpleasant. The interviewer is upbeat, friendly & cheerful, doesn’t try to be anything he’s not & it brings out the best in Todd. I think he knew what he was doing and did a great job.
Well, this is obviously sheer GOLD (even though some of the questions make 16 Magazine look like a peerless tome of journalism…). Thank you for posting.

An small low power FM station in my hometown of Edmond, OK claims they were the first station in the country to play "Hello It's Me" off of Something/Anything in rotation. I knew the owner. He showed me a framed gold record they had from the record company with a note thanking them for launching the song as a single on a small brass plaque on the frame.
He does it HIMSELF!!🤩Coolest interview with Todd EVER..."conducted" by an IMBICILE!!!😄It looked like it was gonna be a trainwreck, but Todd held it together by being tolerant and being himself!! What else would you expect from him, right??
Finally, Todd admits, in his own words, that The Nazz is code for “the Nazarene”, I.e.., Jesus. At 15:05. Lifelong fans know that the lyrics to many many of his songs speak to themes attributed to Jesus in the Gospels. Usually he avoids discussing any meaning or purpose to his songs. This is the only time I’ve ever heard him admit it. Todd is Godd, as fans like to say.
He was sort of humble back then, but then started coming across like has the answers to everything with his metaphysical BS. Traditional Christianity is not something that he prescribes to and I don't think he believes in having a dialog with those who don't see eye to eye with him. He has truly become what he was always against.

Wow, this is such a treat for Toddheads like me. Great to see him in his youthful prime being interviewed which is very rare.
Todd is always Todd. I love his integrity, even around people who don’t truly understand him. Todd is a genius.

Always been himself. That's what we love about him
I'm crazy about him even today.

Oh how exciting!! I’ve followed him since ‘73 and this is such a gift for me..I just love him!

Yea, but he pulled off one the best Todd interviews ever, so I cut the guy major slack. I think he was totally star struck honestly.
@@hippydippyI agree with this sentiment more. He was sweet and positive in the presence of greatness.
Watching Rundgren's thinking process when he elaborates on the evolution of consciousness is fascinating. Thanks for posting.
This is Todd....a spinning compass never going in one direction north south east west ALL THE TIME.❤✌ Hard to believe he was homeless for awhile. Wow.

Of course you did. Let me know when I see you on the 14th!

Wow... This kind of feels like the Nearly Human sessions video that emerged out of nowhere something like 15 years ago... Another buried treasure !
Where do we find those sessions?? 😊

Love seeing him talk about The Fool while he’s actually got it there with him.❤
I love this ❤
great find..never seen before
Professional Weirdo LOL I want that laugh near the end (35:10) for a ring tone!!!!
Oh Man! I can't believe this just popped up on feed. WOW! Thanks so much.
fabulous
Wow, that was pretty incredible. Todd was in his early 20s at this point? Thanks for sharing this glimpse into the early days.
Probably early to mid 20s. Many here say it's from late 1973, so he was 25
Definitely fall of '73- since that's when "Hello It's Me" was climbing the charts (a good year and a half after "Something/Anything" came out)

I just want to learn to play Sunshine of your Love .
This is mindblowing. What was this for?
When you find out, let me know Fern. See you soon! 🤙
He had that tendency to touch his nose a lot during an interview even back then.
Todd has nice hair ...

This is just truly brilliant! Is this just before the AWATS tour you think?
Hmm it not easy to prove in the Monochome video but it looks like he is sporting the multi-color hair do seen on the Todd LP. But that is a guess.
It's after "A Wizard..." was released and before "Todd"...and he addressed the whole hair color thing in ample detail. @@fueledbylove
@@x-roytube2218 Oooo my bad, I confess to skipping about cuz this was rather long. thanks mate!
Todd is so young here
✌️😊❤️🌠🐞
What would Todd think of this interview now ??
Ask him.
aka Kelly...as many years as i've been following t.r. i can pretty much guess what his opinion would be. Not what i thought it was. 👍✌
Dick Clark called and asked for his microphone back. 🤣
The last couple of minutes of interview could have been said today.
Hello it's me ❤❤❤
I’m guessing rehearsals for the summer of 1974 tour? Any idea?
I thought the Fillmore East closed in 1971
Big balls todd rented it as a rehearsal room
