Okay, this one might only be for true aviation enthusiasts like myself :)
Today I take a return flight from Edinburgh to Glasgow. Why? Because it's there.
At 48 miles, this flight on it's own of course would make nae sense commercially or environmentally, but the truth is, merging the EDI/GLA flight to Southampton allows Loganair to remove a complete route between Scotland and the south coast of England, so I don't feel so bad to be hopping onboard. Question is - how long will it take? Well, watch on to find out! Spoiler Alert: The return flight is the quicker!
LM327 Edinburgh to Glasgow 16 May 2021
LM328 Glasgow to Edinburgh 16 May 2021
Loganair Embraer 145, reg G-SAJC
Cruise at 5500ft, airspeed approx 244kts
Ticket cost £45 each way (but I had some credit with Loganair, so it didn't shock me too much)

Steve I realise what makes your RUclips adventures better than most is your interesting and well informed dialogue ..The best. Cheers
Awww what more could you want at the end of a flight, but someone special holding a sign with your name on it, in an empty airport ❤️
It really did make my day! :)
At 10:35 "back again ?" 😂. I've seen this flight before when looking at planes on FR24.
By the time you go through all the airport stuff,a penny farthing would be quicker 🤣🤣, thanks again Steve great wee video
Ain't that the truth! :) Cheers Douglas!
Being as I am from San Francisco, I shouldn’t know what a penny farthing is but I’m sure glad that I do! Nice video. Thanks for sharing.
Years ago, returning from Copenhagen to Glasgow the flight made a scheduled stop in Edinburgh so I got to make this same hop. I’m sure that flight was in some variant of the 737. Strangely, the outbound flight the same morning was direct. As for the extra legroom an exit seat gives, be careful what you wish for. Two colleagues thought they had lucked out on a trans-Atlantic flight when they got the extra legroom at the exit. But when a fellow passenger died on the flight the body - in a bodybag thankfully - was deposited at their feet as this was the only space available on the aircraft.
Wow! Imagine it!!!! :O
I was on a KLM flight as a child once in 1997 from Amsterdam that dropped passengers off in Glasgow then carried on to Edinburgh.
22 minutes was quite long for that flight. I flew from Edinburgh to Belfast City a few weeks ago with Aer Lingus and it only took 29 minutes.
Wouldn't have thought of that one. My shortest flight was from Prestwick to Belfast City with Ryanair when they were doing their 1p offer. 10 mins in the air took off into the wind and landed the same way so no circling to the runway. Back also for 1p so a day in Belfast for 2p.Did the same to Dubiln also for 2p
Ahhh those 1p fares!!! Sounds like a great wee route, it would just take me so long to get to Prestwick :)
I remember that lol i think that flight was 18 minutes in total from memory
That was a lovely way to end your flight/video Well done Steve and Alicja you made my Day !!
Thanks, Steve ..... and HUG that lil lady who came to meet you !!!!
Great video as always, what a cracking view you had from the aircraft.
Your greeting in the airport was worth the plane journey!!
Stay safe and well you both, keep the videos coming..
Cheers Darren! Yeah, the ending really made my day!
Enjoyed that little trip Steve. Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks!
Charming video! Always a treat to see your travels. Great to see you in motion again.
Thanks Karen! It was so nice to be up in the clouds again :)
Excellent video. I've been looking for one on this journey for a while now.
I'm glad I could bring you a look at it Randal! Cheers :)
Nice video Steve, I really enjoy going along on these explorations with you. Thanks a lot!
Thanks so much Maribel :)
Really enjoyed the video. Thank you for posting. A short round trip flight plus, a joyous welcome on return, and no journey could be better.
Thanks Bob! It was such a lovely surprise that Alicja came to meet me :)
Back in the 90s, there used to be a Dusseldorf - Birmingham - Edinburgh - Glasgow flight with BA on one of their classic 737-200s. I used that flight a couple of times, only going as far as Edinburgh.
Wow - that sounds like my kinda flight! I'd happily do that all day :)
What a lovely video to watch. Certainly a great little advert for Loganair. Excellent
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks :)
Thank you Steve,I love seeing Logan air comeing to brum now it comes here.🛫✈️💗
Cheers for watching! A great wee airline :)
After this last year what a great video. Made me feel like I went on a wee holiday at last. I love the scenery when I fly, but I also love the take off and landing. Loved the meet and greet you lucky man. ❤ Thanks again Steve for another lovely video. 🙂
It was so nice of Alicja to come and meet me Margaret, total surprise :) It really did feel like a very short holiday! :)
That was a great wee flight to see - and nice to see you back up in the air again!
(And who doesn't love to be met at the airport!)
So true Tom - it really made my day! :) Cheers
Interesting and fun video. Makes me think about traveling options that I haven’t necessarily considered before 🤔 Thanks for your awesome videos!!
Thanks Inga! This one took a bit of searching, and the EDI-GLA flight was only booked on the day! But well worth it :)
This is so fun to watch! Thank you! I have never been on an airplane larger than a Cessna 182....
That's a pretty cool thing to be able to say Barbara! :)
Thanks Steve. Top tip about the nature reserve at Glasgow - one I'll be sure to check out next time I'm switching flights there.
Cheers Andrew! A wee hidden gem :)
Always like how a machine that looks so graceful in the air always sounds like it is about to fall to pieces when taxing and taking off, nice flight thank you.
Haha that's so true Simon! :D
It's always a treat to see you travel. I think I remember that you tried this route on foot before. Well, this time it was more comfortable and the view was very nice. The warm welcome in Edinburgh was worth the trip alone. Thanks for this trip Steve. I really enjoyed it. 👍
Awwww thanks so much! Yes, the welcome home really made my day, and it's not so easy to get to the airport from home so I appreciated it a LOT! :) Haha yes, this was a little smoother than my walk! Oh no, you're putting it in my head to try again :)
Back in the day Globespan used to do this for some flights to Spain. Cleared to the GOW, altitude 4000ft.
Brilliant! What a great idea for a wee day out. Reminds me of flying from Aberdeen to Dundee in the 90s with the long gone, Business Air on a SAAB 340. That was about 20 mins so you definitely win.
Oh I'm jealous you got to do that flight though Paul!
Love this! I flew on this aircraft when I worked at bmi regional when it was GRJXF, nice to see the blue bmi seats are still there
That is so cool! Love it!
I'm sure I flew this one - BRS > TLS
That was a great little trip Steve, Thanks a lot.
Cheers Roger! I only booked the EDI-GLA bit on the day! So glad the weather brightened up for it :)
Excellent video Steve. Enjoyed watching that. Going to book it now just to say I’ve done it!
Cheers! It sure is one for the aviation collectors scrapbook :)
Great insight Steve thanks, prior to the pandemic, i had been flying in & out of Glasgow Airport for about 12years with my work but never knew about the reserve nearby, I will definitely visit there when things resume instead of being stuck hanging out in the departure lounge for hours.
Cheers Ronny! I would have been so bored just sitting in the terminal :)
Hope you enjoyed your flight Steve
Wow, wish PEI to the UK was that quick! You had great weather for your "wee" trip. Loved seeing both Edinburgh and Glasgow from the air. And what a great little nature reserve. That was beautiful! Here's to lots more air travel for you Steve! I know how much you enjoy it!
Thanks Janice, it was a real pleasure to be up in the clouds again :) (and thankfully there weren't too many of them!)
Great video. I love seeing flights from other parts of the world. From a viewer in Australia. 🇦🇺😎
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks! And I really appreciate viewers from all over the globe - all the best to you! :)
Another here, from Western Australia 🙋🇦🇺🐨
Thanks Steve. I really enjoyed that. Good views from up there and you've got me checking Loganair flights to the islands as we speak 👍
Oh I need to do more Loganair flights, they are just so expensive though! Cheers Davey
@@steve-marsh aye, not the cheapest TBH. I'll keep an eye out for some deals.
Enjoyed your video . Interesting . Would like to fly to Edinburgh / Glasgow from England one day . Looking forward to watching any more videos that you make in the future .
Thanks Graham! More to come soon I promise :)
What a fun video! Thanks for taking us along on this little adventure, Steve!

Another enjoyable video, thank you. Colin
Glad you enjoyed it Colin! :)
Nice little journey,
Really interesting thank you...lovely aircraft great scenery...all your stuff is really good. Great channel 👍
Thanks so much!!! :)
Novelty flight ! Good job you were greeted at EDI otherwise you'd be lost in the throng.
Smashing day for it Steve. had you gave me a wee bit of notice Id have happily met you in Glasgow for a pint.
Thanks again fella.
Aaaggghhh! And it’s your round as well Gary!
@@steve-marsh lol 🍺
Thanks for the video! And thanks for the humor sometimes!
Great little flights, love the wee Jungle Jets. :o)
Great video. I flew this a couple of times on the 737 with British Midland as a FO. We would drop into EDI to pick up pasengers on the way to CPH and drop off on the way back. It was normally operated by a Fokker 100. I seem to recall the best time on the Fokker was about 8mins from t/o on 05 at GLA to landing on 06 at EDI.
Stuart that is awesome! Would love to fly that 8 minutes in the jump seat :)
Brilliant Steve noticed this on flightrader 24 a few weeks ago and wondered what was going on thanks for clearing up the mystery.
Glad to help Kenneth :)
Great video and a great idea! I wasn’t aware that the edi-sou flights stopped via GLA, what a great opportunity to get such a short flight! Keep up the great work Steve
Cheers Lee! Hope you're doing well :)
@@steve-marsh I noticed a flight between NCL and EDI on the departures board late last week, I couldn’t find how to book it anywhere. I think it was a continuation of a SOU-EDI service
I love all your videos from Sydney Australia
Great humor, and a wonderful safe flight.
Cheers Richard! :)
Loved this !....keep the adventures going guys :D
Cheers Paul! :)
Thanks, Steve, that was rare. My dad took me and one of my cousins on this flight back in the 1960s, first time either of us had ever flown. My recollection is that it only took 12 minutes back then, although I could be wrong! Didn't know this run was still operating.
Amazing Maggie! What a cool wee introduction to aviation! This was a difficult one to book, but all the searching was worth it in the end :)
Excellent video - informative as always - used to fly from Manchester to Edinburgh in Loganair's Shorts 360 - A flying transit van !
Cheers John - it has long been my dream to fly the van! I wonder if I can still find one anywhere?
@@steve-marsh Last time I flew in one - it hit an air pocket and lost a couple of thousand feet rather quickly !
I remember way back the BA flights from Edinburgh to Bristol used to go via Glasgow so I remember a few similar short flight - on. A Dash-8 I think. Great video.
Cheers Roger! Love a wee Dash-8 too :)
What a great wee video, that’s gave me an idea, my partner has not flown before, that would be perfect for him to get the feel of it. Thanks Steve
Thanks Claire! The flights can be hard to find, took me a few times looking on the Loganair website, and in fact the EDI-GLA one was only booked on the day! But well worth the searching :)
No worries Claire if he doesn’t want to I’ll come with you. 😜😜
@@patkelly6349 😂😂 thanks Pat
Wonderful video Steve... Made me smile....... And a very Glamorous Welcome... :-))))
Haha cheers, absolutely :)
@@steve-marsh I am assuming it was Alicja??? Face masks make it difficult to tell..... Honest Officer!!!!!
The quickest flight ever done was Dublin to East Midlands, about 45 minutes from take off to landing, that seems like a long haul flight compared to this 😂. Fantastic video
🤣 you guys make great vlogs!!! 👌
Excellent footage Steve 👍
Thanks again :)
@@steve-marsh next time i'm in Edinburgh area, would love to meet you guys. I will pass my contact details on to you then. 👍🏴👌
Gracious, thought you were blowin’ smoke up me kilt! That was a short flight lol!
By the time you add in travelling to and from the airports from the city centres I'm guessing the train would take about the same time ? on the plus side the Loganair staff look very foxy in Tartan , Loved the meeting at the airport at the end , that sign was priceless !
I know right!? Alicja is so creative and it was a lovely surprise :) The train would be about 45 mins door to door, so much quicker minus the views :)
But how many people truly live in the city centres?
Great stuff, thanks Steve!
My pleasure Marc!
Love it! Through you're probably right, the two flights will likely be split once things get back to normal. Looking forward to the Westray flights 😂
Cheers! Oh can’t wait to get up to Orkney again - I tried last time I was there, but they were all booked up. I’ll be more organised next time :)
Great video, reminds me of Plymouth to Newquay many years ago but 11 minutes is a really short hop!
Oh nice route!!!
That was fun!
Surely the whole annoying experience of flying - having to get to the airport which is usually miles from the city, needing to get there a long way ahead of flight time for the security checks, random delays, taxiing before and after takeoffs and landings - adds considerably to the time if comparing it to another way to travel. I doubt it’s used often.
But the views are great!
So true Heather! The things I do for a RUclips video :) and just as well I strangely like all those things, although I must say, despite the lack of views, I still prefer the train journey :)
Steve nice to see you again greeting from Ireland 🇮🇪 I still want to go to barra this year here’s hoping
My fingers are crossed for you! I'd like to get back there too. Aw the best!
Oh man, didn’t even know that this route existed , must give it a go sometime. Another brilliant video.
Thanks so much Bill!
This was a fun adventure Steve.....thanks for taking us along! That's something that I would do also (just because) you can. When I was flying (years ago) we had a route from Boston to Portland, ME that took 18 minutes wheels up to wheels down....we thought that was short...AND....we did a very quick beverage service! That's a really nice hiking area there beside the airport....was a pleasant surprise to find that there!!
I'm really keen to do some short hops in the States when I can - have always fancied a wee flight out to Martha's or Nantucket :) And well done to the crew fitting in a beverage service!!!!
@@steve-marsh No cart setup....just a carry tray with a choice of Coke, Sprite & that was it. You passed it out from front to back, went back & grabbed a trash bag & started thru again collecting the cups!
Lovely careing Lady great vlog
Loved it! Thank you.
Thanks to you! :)
i never knew that flight existed, you learn something new every day.
And the nature reserve !!!….at glasgow airport ???!!! (….who says YT isnt educational).
thanks for the vid.
Cheers Martin! It was a surprise for me too :)
Next to the nature reserve there is actually a nursery, primarily for airport staff or people who work at inchinnan business park on the other side of the runway. My daughter went there, and they took the kids for walks down at the moss all the time.
Incredible video, what a flight. Not many will ever get to do that💜
Aye that was a special wee flight, so glad I was able to get it return as well! :)
@@steve-marsh appreciate you replying mate, had a wee binge today. Can't get enough of them whether in Scotland or far abroad. Take care
Nice flights and aircraft.
Cheers Leon!
Very enjoyable--thank you.
Thanks so much! :)
Great video, Steve. Last flight (20 months ago) I had from Edinburgh was to Doha and on to Adelaide. About 24hours..
Cheers Alexander! A wee bit longer eh!
Cracking video mr Steve kean has just watched it and said "he didn't even have time for a coffee "lol he also said he would love to do that flight as would I, it must have been a strange experience being in the air for such a short time but well worth doing thanks for another video and we're getting excited for our trip to your fair land in August cheers joff and kean
August is not many sleeps away now! :) Kean - I really wanted a coffee but they didn't do any service at all :) I was shocked how quickly the 'prepare for landing' announcement came!
Steve you picked the right day weather wise for the flight which as many have said before did not know existed and also the nature reserve at Paisley. I remember when they used to call Glasgow Airport Renfrew Airport was about the same time they had a the Erskine Ferry and its famous queues. Regards Crawford
Thanks for the info Crawford! :) Yes, actually only booked the EDI-GLA leg on the day of the flight, so was pretty sure there would be some nice weather :)
That was good, Steve. Wonderful cloud formations! I think you would enjoy making a video in Paisley; it's a very attractive place. I'd describe it as a hidden gem.
Paisley very much on the list - I know a RUclipsr who lives there - Scott from 'Planes Trains Everything'
Very nice to watch a travel video that contains a plane :-) My shortest flight is from Papa Westray to Westray in the Orkneys, less than 2 minutes.
I am drowning in jealousy! One day I hope to take this flight and film it :)
I used to fly from Aberdeen to East Midlands via Edinburgh, it took only 20 mins to Edinburgh
Would love the view down the coast!
Quicker by train Great vlog
Cheers Ian! A quirky way for sure
Away back in the 80s British Airways Highland Division flew two sectors each shorter than GLAEDI one was Campbeltown to Islay 25miles and Kirkwall to Wick 36miles using Viscounts
Ahoy Pirates! Thanks for taking us on board! OMG, I miss aviation so much! Classy and cool footage, as always! Hats off to this Captain and crew! Alicja is too cute, please tell her that! :D Capt. of the good old Blackthorne
Awww I certainly will :) Thanks pal :)
Great video Steve.......My first ever flight was back in 1972 was Aberdeen - Edinburgh - Glasgow on a BEA Vickers Viscount Series 806 . Your outbound was a little longer landing 05 at GLA . Done that trip oh so many times on MS Flight Sim on various aircraft over the years, infact its a trip on MSFSX (training) as the conversion to jets. An old friend of mine is the Embraer Training Captain for Loganair Frank Browne , I was his first ever passenger on a Aberdeen Aero Club Cessna 152 back in the early 80s but that's another story.
Dennis, I could listen to these stories all day long! I'm so jealous you've done that route onboard a Viscount! I guess the nearest I'll ever get to one would be building an airfix...
Great video Steve. I have done Schiphol to Norwich in under 30 minutes (just!) which is amazing when you compare the time it would take by another method. Would love to see you do the Westray flight.
Wow - 30 mins from mainland Europe is incredible! I'll need to give it a try :) Oh and Orkney is on the list, it's just tricky going all that way if it was cancelled for weather or something, but there's no way to do anything about Scottish weather, eh!?
What a stunningly lovely view over Embra, though! And I just love the sight of sun playing through clouds. When flying with engines, slightly crappy weather is much nicer than clear blue sky, I think. I wonder if the pilots are tempted to skip retracting the gear for the flight.
Haha exactly :) and I wasn’t expecting such great weather
The landscape is absolutely awe inspiring!! ❤️❤️👍👍 Scotland 🏴 🏴
Cheers for watching Niklas!

Next up: LCY to LHR: Plane verses the tube/DLR
Haha would love it!
Hahaha this video cracked me up! Next time I'm pulling into Harthill on the Citylink coach I'll just think of all the folk zipping across the M8 6000 feet above me. 😂
I’m surprised we didn’t stop at Harthill for a break 🤷🏼♂️
Your presentation and camera work are very professional Steve. A pleasure to watch, thank you.
Thanks so much for the kind words!!!
We are heading up to Orkney in October but it looks like the timings on the flight from Papa Westray to Westray or vice versa will make it difficult to film if getting a ferry from Kirkwall. Darn. Nice film of an unusual journey.
Did this flight a few years ago and I think from the pilot turning on the engines to turning then was under 6 minutes. It was a great flight
Taxi to / from the end of the runway was probably longer - nice video Steve
Haha very true David!
Great video
Cheers Alex!
Flew this flight on a number of occasions back in the early 90s. Air UK used to operate the GLA-STN and EDI-STN flights with a BAe146. The middle of the day flights were combined so a trip to or from Stansted would mean we'd get a flight from/to EDI thrown in. I'm sure I timed a GLA-EDI trip at seven minutes once. I think I also did EDI-GLA with Flybe once when they cancelled a SOU-EDI flight and put the passengers on our SOU-GLA service. Flybe were notorious for that sort of thing but hell, I miss them!
Yeah, miss them too - some great routes they flew. And AirUK - there's a blast from the past! I need to get researching and find more of these wee beauties of routes! Seven minutes - wow, I'm jealous you beat me!
You must have got some funny looks on that trip, Steve!
Interesting to see Loganair now have jets, in my day I flew Islanders and Trilanders. Later they had Shorts flying vans. Last time I flew Edinburgh to Lerwick direct every 2 weeks.
My first 'offshore' job I flew Glasgow to Edinburgh to Aberdeen to Wick to Kirkwall where I got off but flight continued up to Lerwick. Over 50 years ago on a twin prop British Airways flight. Given Scottish weather multiple take offs and lands was quite the thrill.
Alex, that all sounds incredible to an enthusiast like me! I wish I'd had the chance to fly one of the vans - I wonder if there's one still flying somewhere, I need to find it if there is!
@@steve-marsh The Shorts built in Ireland was an ugly aircraft with it's square body and stubby wings. Twin prop. Quite a comfortable ride and plenty head room given the box shape. Even a toilet. Upgrade compared with the side door entry no corridor Islander and Trilander. The side doors fairly rattled in flight. One time on a company charter flight from Emden Germany to Edz I sat in the copilot seat. The pilot was an older pilot that appeared very nervous and chain smoked the whole flight. Wonderful views on land Edz from copilot seat. Back then no need for 2 pilots ... those were the cowboy days.
I heard an old sea dog recounting recounting some tall tale of flying on an oil company charter. He was sitting next to the pilot, they got chatting about their respective trades. Then the pilot gave him a wee shot on the controls, while doing this the pilot went on the PA and announced "Boys, the crane operator's flying the plane!".
Great but loved the ending well done
Haha yes Jim, that was a great surprise and made my day!
Wow that is a rare find so near the airport.
This is a very interesting route for sure! Good video though!
Thanks so much! Love your videos!
I actually enjoyed the video😁Sitting in the bus I wish to fly from Gorgie to OT✈️🧸🎈
Your pilot would still take a wrong turn 😏
Stunning view of the city on Takeoff!
I worked there in 1995. We put in the new turnstiles at Easter Road for Hibs.
Cheers Sean, really got lucky with the weather it was never meant to be that nice! I worked in one of those turnstiles at an Elton John concert :)
@@steve-marsh Wow, small world lol. Love the channel Steve
Great concept Steve. Loved the episode. I do love landing south at both those airports when conditions allowed. Thanks for bringing back many fine memories from layover time in those two amazing cities.
Thanks so much, always great to hear! Oh and I got better conditions than I was expecting too
