Glasgow Airport is the departure point for one of the world's best flights - destination Barra in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland. One hour (and a whole world) away. In winter, this flight is offered by Loganair as a day return for around £70. Beg. Steal. Borrow - you MUST do this flight!!! :)

Hi everyone. I’ve had a lot of negative feedback about the music on my Barra landing, just wanted to explain why. I’m fairly new to making videos and also I don’t have the best equipment, so when it comes to editing, I need to strike a balance to create a piece of work I am happy with. I will however be returning to Barra this year and will try to make a better job of it next time. In the meantime I’ll try to track down the landing footage I have and upload the landing segment without music (now uploaded !!) It might not be the best though. Sorry for disappointing you all in a place that deserves better. Please stick with me as I learn and evolve my channel! Thanks for the support.

We did this flight in May a couple of years ago - in perfect weather. Stunning views the whole way and fabulous landing experience. The return was just as good, and such a thrill as the Twin Otter seemed to leap from the beach in a couple of hundred yards and rise like an elevator. Thanks Steve for capturing the feel of this trip. Much easier finding the B&B in daylight!

While I have never been to Barra, my first flight to the Western Isles was in a BEA Viscount in 1963, Renfrew-Benbecula-Stornoway. The last leg involved a small diversion at the request of the RNLI to locate a small boat in distress off the west coast of Harris and was at a far lower flight level than standard, which made for stunning views of Harris. We located the boat and the man was later rescued.

I have some old Aeroplane Monthly magazines here. There was a story about the merry old De Havilland Dragonfly, a twin engined biplane airliner, in one. Back then, regular airline flights would take off from any meadow long enough and take you straight to the biggest cities. You could get flights like from farmer Miller's meadow in Wales straight to Paris in the Twenties and Thirties. De Havilland Twin Otters thus kind of hold up their grand old heritage, flying from the beach. I love it!

gre8 video Steve!!! i love twin otter...my first flight was in Twin Otter in Bolivia..... unfortunately we dont have twin otters anymore in Bolivia ... but a lot off cessna we have.... i love this airstrip of Barra..... very nice and different as well .... for example the highest international airport is in La Paz (second biggest city in Bolivia) .... 4100 metres above sea level.

What a charming video. I watch dozens of flight videos, and I don't think I've ever described one as "charming" before. I guess it's because I watch so many that RUclips suggested yours; I've never encountered your channel before, or heard of this flight (or of Barra, for that matter). I liked your narration: very informative and naturally good-humored, without straining to be funny. All in all, a very nice job--I'll watch your other videos soon. (P.S.: the music was fine).

What a fabulous flight to Barra, I loved the deep purring sound of the twin engines on take off, it gave me chills down my spine this was my third time in a twin ‘Otter’ and my second time landing on a beach 🏝 airport with the sea lapping at the tyres, that was at Almere in Spain, it was a bigger Aircraft with a much wider sweep on approach, I was having the collie wobbles and my husband who wasn’t fond of flying turned a nice shade of green, even though he worked at East Midlands Aport! Thank you again Steve for giving me the opportunity to try something different from the comfort of my armchair, cheers 🍻 looking forward to another adventure👌as long as it’s not ‘Kayaking’ 😣

Hah I’ll be staying on dry land for the foreseeable:) the twin otter is 100% my favourite aircraft so hopefully I won’t be on dry land for long and I’ll get the chance to fly once again :)
