  • I had no idea this flight was so significant! Join me onboard an inaugural Loganair service between Aberdeen Scotland and Oslo Norway. We'll hop across the North Sea on an Embraer, see some of magnificent Norway from the air, take the fast train to the city, jump aboard the most scenic Metro I've ever been on, and take a look at the home of a Norwegian obsession that scares the life out of me! All in a days adventurising :)
    Filmed 5th September 2022.
    ABZ OSL 08:30 11:05 LM59
Flight price £99.99 inc seat selection (8A)
I will be continuing my journey from Oslo in the next video, stay tuned for that one!

Hi, I’m Steve, a travel reviewer from Scotland. Join me on my adventures as I discover my own country, often visiting places for the first time, so hopefully it's as much of an eye-opener for you as it is for me! Don't expect expert opinion, just a very honest journey of discovery. Sometimes featuring my intrepid sidekick Alicja, sometimes featuring adventures beyond the borders of Scotland. Enjoy!

You've hit the mark yet again. You just seem to have the personality for it. And that's the word - you somehow make these videos personal, almost like it's one-to-one. I once stood at the top of a ski slope, in Rovaniemi on the Finnish Arctic Circle, and how anyone could launch themselves down that is beyond me.

As a Norwegian, I would not recommend taking the airport train (flytoget). The price is 240 NOK (£17-18) one way (not sure how much it was in NOK in September 2022, as the value of NOK fluctuates), while the normal train is 124 NOK (£8-9). The time difference is 1-3 minutes.

    • @ghanthor
      @ghanthor 5 месяцев назад

It's a completely new ski jump. The old one did have a lift too, but the final part to the top was steps, ski jumpers need to build those thigh muscles 😉.
Also, they could mechanically lower the flooring to adjust the speed of the ski jumpers.
The old one had an enclosed top, and when they tore it down (2008) the top enclosure was sold off but I don't recall what the buyer did with it.
The bottom part with the seating area becomes a small lake in the summer.

And also remember that practically all feriies in Norway are free for passengers, and about half of the ferries are free for both cars and passengers, in Sweden and Finland car ferries are free (within the country) but not beteween countries. Passenger ferries are really expensive in Sweden though, so bring a car for your free ferry rides....
In 1978 I drove the round , from Glasgow up to Ullapool, went on to the abandoned villages north of Ullapool, all petrol stations were also abandoned, sheep everywhere, had to back up every time I met a car, only room for one car on the road, cam e to Tongue, but it was lunchtime, so they closed the petrol stations, ran out of petrol outside Tongue, found a general store with a pump, borrowed a can, and filled up, wnt on to Thurso and Scrabster (and Dounreay Nuclear Power Plant- think its closed?) Ferry to the Orkneys was some £ 130, that would have cost around £ 4(four) in Norway.....went on to Dingwall and spent the remainder days in Edinburgh.

Oslo, actually, kind of did not expect it to be this beautiful.... was always the most faceless of the four continental Scandinavian capitals for me.
But that room... t'was much better than most hotel rooms I got when going to The Isle on a budget. when I think cheapest room, I think more things like Easy-stay, this one, to be honest, I could live for a week or more if I was traveling there.
though.... 70quid is also not cheap.
last, a small down... that supporters list looks sinisterly like some memorial plaque to me,
you know, like the kinds of things they put up after a disaster documentary "in memory of..."
lighten it up to make it a little more joyful, will ya.... feel bad for those on it....

Distance jumping is not performed on these venues, but on purpose built ski runs,

Wonderful video, Steve! A little tip. I recommend the commuter-train/InterCity-train as well as Flytoget. You save a few pounds on the ticket and the Journey is only 1-2 minutes longer (stops at the same station Lillestrøm before Oslo)

But can you buy a train ticket in the railway station? Seemed difficult for Flytoget!

Another adventure underway ..the ski museum was interesting ( love the winter Olympics ). One hears about going to Europe from England for a short break never knew you could do the same Scotland to Scandinavia ....would be more interesting for me ( last visit in the 90's!) Thanks safe travels ( you forgot your basic food travel pack😏😊!) Jan Adelaide

Surprised that flight was so cheap! Logan air are the most expensive airline around. My employer just paid £380 one way for me to fly to Kirkwall from Edinburgh! Absolutely crazy prices.

You've done it again. Awesome and inspiring video, bringing happiness and smiles into our Sunday morning. We opt'ed to save and enjoy 'Water Canon's' for Sunday. Take care Lord Steve, the Oslo room looked very good by the way. Name of aircraft, "Clan Baillie", do all Loganair's name their aircraft?

Great video as usual! However I was surprised to see your boarding pass list you as Mr. Stephen Marsh. Aren’t you a laird/lord now? Your nobility and they should have rolled out the red carpet and put you in first class! I’ll write the airlines a note so the next time you might get champagne. Keep up the good work.

If you are on a budget, I'd reccomend to take the regular train service from VY, and not Flytoget, between the airport and Oslo. They are only two or three minutes slower, and half the price. The trains are a bit more basic, and they can be cramped at times, but you'll save some money.

One thing we could learn from Norwegian Airports. They have Duty free when you arrive into the country. Revenues are kept in the country and you don’t have to carry it halfway across the world.
Dubai and India are two other countries I’ve notice do it too.

Steve that was so enjoyable. My teenage years were spent in Norway and Sweden. I lived in Oslo for 2.5yrs as a teenager so I was immersed in this video, especially Holmenkollen as I used to ski and sled the slops up there (not the ski jump though). That’s a newer ski jump than when I lived there. Great that they have a viewing platform at the top. Now I yearn to revisit.
What a treat for you with the arrival at Oslo with the water tank and bagpipes playing. I’d be intrigued by a cost breakdown on your trip videos.
Once again thanks so much 👏
