I used to fly into st barts on week ends when people wanted 2 pilots in an islanders. N during the week I flew freight . 2007-2008.

15:29, "Completely failed..." would have been running that aircraft down into the sea. You didn't even get to try, that's not a failure Noel just a missed opportunity due to factors completely beyond your control! Chin up mate! There'll be another time!

AMAZING video!!! as you say, this approach is quite hard. No wonder the 2 pilots at the front had 4 stripes (It is a way to know how much experience they have) Captains!!!.

We must have been on St Barths when you were there, we stayed at the hotel to the left of the runway at the beach end. I just love watching the planes take off and land, the Tradewind Pilatus is particularly impressive, I call it a stealth bomber.......Glad you didn't crash and close the Airport, it would have been a disaster for the island !!

Unlucky with the weather, no need to feel a failure as you can't control the elements. I don't have a pilots licence yet I have landed an A320 at Kia Tak, St Marten and Gibraltar !. Kia Tak is a great appoach, head towards the mountain, turn right, steep descent then stick it on the runway....simples!!. I did it on an approved flight simulator in Singapore with a qualified pilot in the r/h seat doing the radio/navigation while i did the flight/flaps/throttles etc. I crammed for 3 months on MS Flightsim. Loved it !!, best few hundred quid I ever spent lol.
Well now we are in lockdown again back here in the UK my 5 year old has started binge watching your films. He loves them as much as me.
Looks like fun mate. I fly 3 axis micro lights and I can see the problem, especially as the runway goes down hill to the beach. I think speed on my approach would be the same, especially following the hill down to runway lol. Great vid and for sharing..

Okay Noel, the next one to try is Saba Juancho E Yrausquin Airport. It has a 303 meter long runway, on a cliff.

That was a very gutsy think to even contemplate!
Noel, you must take the flight from St. Maarten to Saba where I have my winter holiday home. It is an extremely unique flight, at one of the most tricky airports in the world and arguably the shortest runway in the world that takes commercial flights. This route is probably best served by Winair who service it with their DHC-6-300 Twin Otter as St Barths. But with drops at both end of the runway it is well worth the flight for any aircraft otaku.
I expected this to be on a flight simulator, but this is a great turn of events!
Have you ever flown in to Catalina Island in Southern Calif? Their airport is on the top of a mountain on the island. It looks like a thrilling airport to land in also.

The 'F-BUMS' was funny on two levels; 'bums' for you guys is what we call a 'bottom', but the nickname 'f-bomb' in American venacular refers to the 'f' word. We would say something like, "He was so mad, he dropped the f-bomb right in the cop's face!" So, seeing 'F-BUMS' works on several levels here!😁

The 208 is an amazing aircraft.
i landed here last year in a dch-6 in a windy day! it was better than rollercoaster :D a lot of severe turbolences, it was one of the scariest things ever done.

I'd love to do this one day. I don't know whether you stabilized the footage in post or used a gimble or what, but it looks fantastic!
Next, you have to try Saba’s Yrausquin Airport (SAB/TNCS) where you don’t excursion onto the beach, you excursion over a cliff.

That is just really unlucky weather there... I've been to that area three times and only maybe had one day like that. It's usually just sunny all day with maybe a passing 5 minute shower. Though there was the hurricane that destroyed a lot of stuff, and I do wonder how much has been rebuilt (it looked like the Maho Beach area was pretty good, but the interior areas maybe not as much). Anyway hope you go back and get to complete this mission sometime.
What a funny ATC Controller :-) „BUMS“ means in german something like Foxtrott Uniform Charlie Kilo..... by the way. Next time increase your MET preparation, especially of you are familiar with UK Met conditions. Good Video ;-)
I visited St Maarten and St Barts a couple of years ago - both SXM and the airport on St Barts are pretty cool in their own unique ways. Maho beach is a bit crazy!
St Maarten is a wonderful island, but the differences between the French and Dutch sides are a bit irritating, with one using the Euro and one using the dollar (even though that side is supposed to use the Gilder, but nobody does).
I've seen a few planes abandon landing at St Barts and go around...I know many pilots prefer to approach from the beach side as it's a lot smoother.
Was a pity about the weather: When I went it was 28c every day with clear sunshine...but then there would be a random rain shower that lasted for 15 minutes and then left. You just can't predict it.

Is it your first time flying a Cessna? I love flying the 152 such a fun aircraft to fly last time after take off from Barton EGCB my instructor he told me to a few aerobatic which was odd but extremely fun in a small aircraft like that it's the most fun type i'v flown i'm not jealous but due to Covid i'v haven't flown this year so seeing you flying makes me want to get up there more than ever Merry Christmas from Truck Talk Videos
