Made it to the military installation at Gibraltar but I blew it when I didn't go to Ceuta. But, who knew. I love how adventurous you guys are. Thank you.

The Pillars of Hercules was the phrase that was applied in Antiquity to the promontories that flank the entrance to the Strait of Gibraltar. The Pillars appear as supporters of the coat of arms of Spain. Thanks for taking us to such an interesting place.
To give more info the Pillars of Hercules were usually represented with an inscription that said "Ne plus ultra" (there is nothing beyond) as a warning to sailors. It was also a famous phrase in that time. Spain proved that in fact there was more beyond so it included the pillars with the opposite inscription "Plus ultra" (There is more) in its coat of arms.
It's also present in the USD symbol ($), which is copied from the Spanish Dollar coin, in which the coat of arms of Spain appeared. It's made up of one of the pillars and a part of the ribbon that surrounds it, on which is written PLUS ULTRA.

Not only were you born in the same year as me, you also seem to possess the inability to walk past a dog or cat without trying to pet it. That's a lovely attribute, but on one of your previous videos you managed to get a cat to miaow, which caused the cat on my lap to dig her claws into my legs and then search the room for ten minutes looking for the intruder.😂
Pointless bit of trivia: The ship Regina Baltica, which can be seen at 23:16, used to belong to Tallink and Viking Line, which you're undoubtedly familiar with :)

Be early for the ferry on Moroccan holidays, European holidays, it gets absolutely heaving! Great vlog. From Huelva you can take the ferry to the Canaries. Good Spanish, also!
Cheers! Oh I can only imagine what it’s like with all those seats full!
Great Vlog @Steve
To the west of the town is the border, there is a massive fence, and a little bit away are woods, it is usually alive with immigrants. They run them off but, they keep coming back to try and get over the fence. (I was never there, just saw it in a Documentary) It is a beautiful town though. What the devil was that thing at 23:06
Aye I was so confused by the ‘half ship!’
Sailed through the straights of Gibraltar back at easter Weekend towards the end of the world cruise on the Arcadia but it was dark!
Lovely guitar music. Your vlogs always give a good sense of what the area is like. Charming. I can’t help comparing these ferries to the ones in the Far East. They are a way of life for some people I suppose.
Thanks so much Chris! Never been over that way, but one day! :)
@@steve-marsh maybe the next time homer or Odysseus go, hitch a ride. ;). Perhaps they’re in the cafe of the ferry?
Fab video, Steve. I've only just found it. It looks a super place to visit. Thanks for bringing it to us 😊😊
Great video and now having seen will have to do it , many years ago I made the trip from Malaga to Melilla and would highly recommend , that was in my interailing days traveling mostly alone I now live in Malaga so will revisit and Cueta on the cards for sure.
Cheers Antonio - I'll need to give Melilla a go for sure!
Once again you surprise us, what a lovely place the architecture was also surprisingly ornate and beautiful. I also was feeling the heat, dark t-shirt and dark grey shirt on top ... despite the fact its a uv/ mosquito repellant long sleeve shirt white would be a better choice... you`re not in Montrose !! O.K. I apologize, I live in a hotter climate with much lower humidity so I feel your pain.... thanks for the outside footage, well worth it... We cruise a lot and i probably spend more time on deck then most people.. brilliant thanks for taking the time to fill your videos with so much original content. M & M Seligman AZ, right on Route 66
You're from Seligman? No way! I remember having a stop there and the best milkshake I ever did taste! And I still have a bottle opener keychain from the wee store there! Ahhhh memories...
Awesome video once again Steve, what a stunning place Ceuta is👍
Cheers Rab!
Nice trip 4u stevie nice place allso good you seen sandy the seagull who followed you all the way fae montrose 😀 you fair Been about this planet look forward 2 your next video happy weekend thank you
Haha cheers mate, would recognise Sandy anywhere :D
Another great video, Steve. I have looked across the Med from Gibraltar towards Ceuta, but haven't set foot on the African continent. Ceuta looks beautiful.
Cheers Barney! Sure is mate :)
Everything Spanish is Beautiful....and Ultra Modern which leaves the U.K. lagging at least 50 years behind....ene?
But there is nothing you can do though.....is there ?....
You just have to LUMP IT
Good one. Very interesting.
Cheers Geoff!
Another wonderful video! Thanks.
When Inter-Railing back in 1997, my mate and I went through Algeciras on our way to Tangier and ultimately Marrakech. Gibraltar looked amazing from a distance, but we didn't get there.
Glad to hear it Nigel :) I struggle with countries where there are a lot of strays, I want them all!
Great vlog as always Steve, you speak good Spanish. Hope all is well, take care
Cheers Peter! :)
Bet that Heineken went down well…. Interesting video Steve… thanks for sharing…
So different to when l was there in 1973. I was on a safari to Morocco and we slept in a car parked in Ceuta and were sniffed at by lots of dogs.
Excellent as ever, Steve!
Cheers Murray!
Your Spanish is so good!
Thanks so much :)
Brilliant,,,,so interesting young fella!
Cheers Ian!
Pointless bit of trivia: The ship Regina Baltica, which can be seen at 23:16, used to belong to Tallink and Viking Line, which you're undoubtedly familiar with :)
Great nugget of info there!
That ferry reminds me of the old Stena HSS which went from Stranraer to Belfast. The only thing was it was a bit shaky on board. I'd love to go down there. I love the heat, better for your vitamin d the sun
Aye I remember that one! Cheers :)
Great update Steve , we loved watching , we were on holiday in Morocco in the 80's and flew to Gibraltar for the day and loved it , great to see the Spanish enclave of Ceuta it looks a lovely place , keep up the good work Steve and say hi to Alicja for me 👍
Cheers Jim!
The plant life on the island was truly amazing. A botanists paradise. The island looked like a Spanish version of Switzerland. Classy and upmarket. Like you Steve l would have loved to stay on one of those posh yachts in the marina for night with a nice ice cold pack of beer for company.
Ohhh sounds perfect :)
But Ceuta is not an island. It is part of the African continent.
...lovely trip, Steve, and I could almost feel the moist heat... Ceuta looks great and indeed has a Portuguese (ex-colonial) flair, and also could be an exciting starting point to go further towards Tetouan and into the Atlas mountains... I haven't set a foot on the African continent yet, but been to some of the Las Canarias, which do have an African feel to them... thanks so much for this - I feel like being back from a short holidays now... :)
Thanks so much Jörn! Oh yes, would love to continue the adventure from there :)
