  • I'm taking you across the pond this week guys, as we fly from Edinburgh, Scotland over to Boston, MA via JFK with Delta Airlines.
    Before that, I'll be travelling across to the airport on Edinburgh's Airlink 100 bus service and giving you a good look at that, inside and out. Then we'll be boarding our first flight - a 767-300 over to New York where I'll be battling through TSA and making my way to the gate for my connecting flight up to Boston on a very smart A220-100.
    Come with me on this long day of travelling and enjoy the sights and sounds of transatlantic travel (plus a few bits either side). I really enjoyed it and it made for a good start to some further adventures I had in the US in the few days I was there.
    Thanks as always for taking the time to watch my videos, all likes, comments, subs are massively appreciated and, as always guys,
    Cheers for now.

    Nice series in the video. To go through one by one: For me, however nice a bus is, railed transport will always win :) So I'd do the tram 9 times out of 10 (maybe once just to see it!) Delta in the cheap seats seem fairly normal for long haul eco, unlucky with the IFE though. Did you mention it though, as they may give you some miles? At 12:38 you get a clear view of the exact location of the near miss the other day 8-| And the A220, nice plane for a smaller trip length, I did one on Swiss earlier this year. Thanks again!

    Great trip report. I have only been once to the US in 2005, but someday I'd like to return there.
    As for the Edinburgh Airport connection, in 2019 we took the tram from Waverley Station (over £6.5 for a one way, but thus far the most expensive Airport link I travelled on was the Marconi Express at Bologna Airport, which last costed me about €11 one way for a five minutes ride, disgraceful, all with the excuse of higher energy bills).
    I knew there was the Airlink bus that was cheaper, but with all the traffic on that day in 2019 I simply didn't bother, as we were held for sometimes at security due to queues.

    • @LetsMakeaTrip
      @LetsMakeaTrip  Год назад

      €11 is quite expensive for 5 minutes. I think the Heathrow Express can be costly but at least you’re on it a bit longer. I like EDI and now I’ve tried the bus there, I’d do it every time - very comfortable ride with all you need. Cheers mate 😊

    Really interesting to see a video of a routing which few if any others have attempted. Personally I would have been tempted to fly via London (LHR/LGW) choosing Jet Blue for the transatlantic sector. But then again the connex are not good and a night stop may/would be required. Cost would also have been higher. Jet Blue says is it has restored the sort of Y onboard catering which was offered by the others many years ago.

    • @LetsMakeaTrip
      @LetsMakeaTrip  Год назад +1

      Thanks Alex. Yes, tbh it cost me a bit extra to get up to Edinburgh and then an overnight stay, but I thought I’d do something a bit different. Then he reason I went up to Boston was to fly out of there with Cape Air in a Cessna. I ended up in White River Junction for a very specific reason, but that’s another story I will tell in another video! Overall, I thought Delta were fine and the second flight on their A220 - that was a lovely little aircraft. Cheers for the comment. 😊👍

    This might interest you. If you fly Turkish anywhere from time to time they give you 2 free nights in Istanbul. Economy gives you a 3 star hotel. 5 star if you travel business. They include breakfast from time to time. If your lay over time is over a certain time they give you a free city tour of Istanbul. Might be worth making a video of this. Hope you enjoyed the Virgin Upper Class experience, I will be flying Premium Economy to and from New York next Month. This will be on an older A330. The new A350 Upper Class looks a big step up from the aging A330 but they have made Premium Economy worse by cramming another seat in to make it 2-4-2 config.

    I hope you wouldn't base your opinion of an airline solely on whether the IFE worked on one specific flight - unfortunately, tech outages like that can happen to any airline at any time. It's not great when it does, especially on a long 7 hour flight - my sympathies, I totally understand - but these things do happen occasionally. I've been on lots of flights where parts of, or the whole IFE, wasnot working...it's funny how we've come to expect this from modern airlines. With that, the cabin on the B763 looks pretty good in my opinion, you wouldn't know this was 20-something years old! I flew BCN-JFK on a DL767-400 in summer 2021 and it was very good (yes, my IFE worked.)
    BTW, my airline will typically compensate customers when the IFE isnt working. It's not going to be much - maybe a $25 credit? - but it's better than nothing. Did Delta offer anything like that? I guess because it was working somewhat throughout the cabin they might not have done that.

    • @LetsMakeaTrip
      @LetsMakeaTrip  Год назад +1

      Hi BloomingOnion. Of course not, but I will give a 100% honest account of what was good and what was not so good. As I said, the crew were lovely and the A220 was a smashing aircraft (some great IFE on that). Delta didn’t offer any compensation and tbh, I was bothered enough for that to even cross my mind. All-in-all it was pretty decent. Put it this way, I’m back in the US next month and have booked another flight with Delta (AUS - RDU). Cheers 😊👍

      We all know what a coat hook is a reading light is.
      Check out The Flip-flop traveler's work.
      Don't shoot into lights and when editing be aware of audio levels.
      I think your doing fine.

      Thanks Rachel, I’ve taken a screen shot of this for future reference 👍 I’m good friends with NonStop he really helped me a couple of years back when I was starting out. Audio-wise, I’m not too bad at that, I’ve been playing in bands for 35 years so I’ve got a reasonable ear for that. I haven’t heard of flip-flop so I’ll have a look. Much appreciate this, all the best, Mark 😊

      That’s boarding from the front I guess but it was nice to get a look at how the other half live (I say that but I’ve just flown back from Doha with Qatar in business and that was amazing!).

    Delta - fly them New York to Florida. Went economy. One thing they were the only airline to offer a no lactose meal which when served was just that. Also not a modified vegan meal of beans. Good on you Delta

      Yep, apart from the IFE on this occasion, I thought Delta were fine. I’ve booked with them again anyway 👍

      My last flight with Delta much the same issue. Seems a seat by seat issue. Suspect the server isn’t up to sourcing every seat.

    Respect for making these videos. I got a suggestion...could you review the 197s for transport for Wales which just entered passenger service. I think it would be a great video, many thanks
