    Boxing humbles you.
What are the things that anyone is scared of ?
    Dying or being embarrassed.
Boxing has that fear of dying although with a little of rules and safety precautions, but it is there.
Getting knocked out flat in front of everyone is one of most embarrassing things that one may have to face.
    So boxing humbles you.

Boxing gyms are also a more positive and supportive environment. I've never felt like anyone there didn't want to help me better myself. And you're right, there's no unchecked egos in a boxing club. Not for long, anyway.

I totally agree. I worked out the entire pandemic and now my muscles are more developed. Currently I’m transitioning from the fitness gym to the boxing gym, so on days that I don’t meet with my boxer trainer I am at the fitness gym. But generally speaking my ego is inflated whenever I’m in the fitness gym because I look as though I belong there, but the minute I enter into the boxing gym, then suddenly I am like a fish out of water and I instantly become The King of Good Manners and poster child for politeness and courtesy; I don’t even leave my gym bag and personal belongings scattered along the gym floor for fear of upsetting the wrong person 😅😂🤣
Lol, it’s quite funny actually I can’t really explain it, but the energy is just different. Positive contagious energy! I love meeting with my boxing coach because you can tell he’s bad a s s beneath the surface but he’s got a humility about him that emanates confidence & respect, the same is true of most other boxers in the gym, there’s a mutual respect between them irregardless of skill level and I’m trying to emulate that. Boxing gyms can make you a better individual in my opinion because you will check your ego at the door otherwise you just might get 🥊 punched in the dam face

100% agree with this. I lifted weights for 7 years at a fitness gym. And while i did enjoy it, there came a point where the atmosphere and the people seemed pretty vain. There was no real sense of community either. I met some cool people but mostly i was on my own with my workouts. And even I'll admit that i most certainly had an ego by the end of it. When i joined a boxing gym though it was like a whole new world! Just the sense of community and comradery alone made me instantly fall in love. It was what I'd been missing. And yeah like coach V said. You can't really front in a fight. It's just so honest. It makes me really grateful that i joined this sport.

Agree 100%. I'm no boxing trainer but I have a few years of boxing...I trained my friend (who is a gym rat) to pick shots and counter and how to jab. because he was interested in boxing.
He was at the gym (pf) and some meathead guy walked up essentially gave him a bunch of shi* for taking a picture of himself. They had some words, and then went outside 🙄 anyways my boy slipped and landed a counter and that was the it. No ko, just two men respectfully leaving each other alone.
Do you have any advice for fighters that want to train for a living/own a boxing gym??

Great video Coach, question: I'm just starting boxing and I don't intend to fight professionally, but I feel every man should know how to use his hands and not be afraid to get hit. Boxing seems challenging but also fun. I just want to be competent with my hands in case I have to use them, and to give myself a healthy routine to get out of my head and into my body. Is this the wrong attitude to come to boxing?
I want to build mental toughness and I feel boxing is a great way to do that. I would like to spar, and have some amateur fights down the line but it kinda sounds like you're saying if you're not intending to fight amateur or pro you shouldn't box at all. I'm just wondering what your take is on someone coming to boxing from my perspective, I'm looking at it from the stance of becoming more mentally tough, and building up self defense skills. Thanks!

    • @TheJumpRopePreacher
      @TheJumpRopePreacher Год назад

Keep it up Payton. I box daily for mental toughness and just overall feeling more competent in how i use/utilize my hands. Also in terms of fitness and conditioning and how that translates into preparedness in the real world where self defense might be necessary, we should all learn how to defend ourselves and fight better, just in case we need to protect ourselves or others. Same things with weaponry. You don't have to be in the military or going to a war to learn how to use a gun or a rifle, its just good sense, a good practice if in case it should become necessary. be better in as many ways as you can for this reason, and if you want to go a step or many steps further and seek a career in boxing, join a gym and learn from those who have seen fighters excel and what kinds of things are going to be needed in order for you to be successful in the big leagues. But dont ever question the usefulness of becoming skilled at something just because you might not become a professional at it

I have to disagree with you on that. I don't go to the gym purely for aesthetic reasons. I go to the gym because
    1. I want to be a human cheat code. Size, strength, stamina, speed, and conditioning.
    2. I train because I am a strength addict and a human forklift
    3. I train because I love the high that I get. The endorphins that are released.
    4. I train because I love the fact that I can literally re-engineer my body with the right regiment and enough calories
    5. I train because I want to be an elite physical specimen on multiple levels. Think NFL players going to the NFL combine. Those guys are specimen
    6. I train because it is an amazing stress reliever and one of the most underutilized antidepressants. It is how I physically manifest negative energy in a productive manner.
    7. I train because I love seeing the returns. Day in and day out, I'm getting bigger, stronger, faster, building more endurance, etc.
    8. I train because being fit can save you in an emergency situation. This is something that I definitely realized when I was in the US Army.
    9. I love training because I've been through a lot in my life and I've always had a chip on my shoulder. Fitness served as an avenue for me to deal with that.
With that being said, not everyone is in the gym for aesthetic reasons or to attract women. Personally, I do like the attention that I may get from women, but I do it purely for me. I have had to cut off women because they got in the way of my fitness.

I aint talking about pure bodybuilders, people like myself who work out for strength for powerlifting or olympic weightlifting. They cant fight, yes, but some are monster athletes. Before i started mma i worked out for strength and still do, and it was also very enjoyable. Strength also helps is combat sports. I would advice anyone to do deadlifts squats and overhead press. I agree I've met some cool fitness people, but what I took away from what coach was saying is that there is no room for any of the inflated who's you CAN run into at the fitness gyms.
My experience speaks to what he's saying. The most humble people I've met were at boxing gyms. There are no chicks "working out" in full makeup with their hair done at the boxing gyms, there aren't any roofed up meatheads hogging specific machines, etc.
You were correct about running into cool people at fitness gyms, but there are some real characters too. These are the folks that aren't tolerated at the boxing gyms.

I don’t agree on that. In fitness gyms there are many different athletes training for a sport Football players, basketball, soccer, and bodybuilding. From my experience everybody minds they business in those gyms. I didn’t like the weird attention when I had to use the sauna to cut and shadow box and skip rope then ppl lookin at me sizing me up. But it happens anywhere when people hear that I box and ppl always get insecure and try you. It’s a responsibility to stop that from going to hands outside of a match. I’ve been stabbed twice, friends shot and killed. Hands or no hands any moment somebody has your card. One of my matches my opponent died in the second round.
