Well said. I just started at a gym, and they say I got good footwork and a good right hand, but I tell them I don't know anything about boxing... I've been practicing L-steps, lateral movements, heavy bag, shadow boxing, etc. for months before I ever went there, but that's the truth - I don't know anything. It's different when you are in a fight, and you don't have time to think
Very honest, self observation that’s the point of training to get everything to muscle memory so it goes into your subconscious and your reaction time is on 100%
@@BlackyListon But it could also not be humble in a sense, if you say you’ve only boxed a little bit but you have 20yrs experience and your moving around like Muhammad Ali then it’s gonna make people think wow he’s so good for someone who has only boxed a little, so humble is possibly the wrong word.
I am in my late 50's, training Martial arts since I was a kid , and I still make it a point to tell new instructors I train with to start me from scratch . I want to know everything from the ground up. Maybe it's something I missed along the way . NOW....horrible instructor story . Had a guy that for the first lesson would tell you to avoid getting hit in the legs with a ratan stick at full swing. Inside the thigh, outside the thigh, calf , shin . After about 5 you're feeling it big time but he didn't stop until you couldn't walk right. The lessons? 1) to show you can't avoid something that close and that fast 2) He wanted to see how much pain you could take and if you would keep cool and still show up for the next class. I had welts and bruises for like 10 days. Yes, I went back but I didn't actually learn anything by that . He had a terrible time maintaining loyal students . I guess I DID learn one thing and that was to not do stuff like that to my own students.
what if you're a 5'2 woman with experience in other styles and they ask you to spar someone on your 2nd day but you're not familiar with their style yet? You want to spar but you don't want to intimidate anyone, nor do you want to get hurt. You want to be taught at your level, but you also want to learn the proper techniques. You want to test yourself, but you also don't want to disrespect their school as you don't know the level of the person you are up against. Also, you are told that the rules are to go 30 or 50%. What does that mean, 30% of your strength or of their strength? Why would they say 30% if they don't know you? Shouldn't they say 10% first? I could be an Olympic lifting champion who has 3X more power than my size shows, and you have to spar a guy and you don't know his strength level?
Wrapping my hands and getting off work as we speak but the issue with me is to have the same energy’s outside of boxing start doing that my life would be a lot better
Thank you for supporting my comment coach because my work Uncle yesterday was telling me straight facts of the shit I was doing. Basically he was saying stop being in the dream world and put your dreams into action
First. Saw a guy do this in my BJJ. This older guy came in lying about "almost" being a brown belt. He would come in 2 times a week always talking big shit about being a brown belt and there was a guy who would float in who was good friends with the teacher who was an actual brown belt. The real brown belt had the fake guy tapping in a minute. I never saw him after that tap.
Coach V, I’ve been training by myself for about 6 months. Is there any way I can get coaches attention when there isn’t any gyms for over a hour around me? I’m 16 and my life goal is to be a boxer. Thank you for making this content!
What’s happening brother? Thank you for your support. As far as finding the right coach and gym to be honest that is one of the most important difficult parts of a fighters journey I recommend taking those road trips, even if it’s inconvenient check more than one place and see if the vibe matches your goals!
First time in the gym was amazing very smart coach, threw me in first day but he knew I had no experience so he put a very experienced fighter in the ring with me, so they understood to take it easier but still make sure I knew what I was getting into, fell in love same day
@@coachv3436 thanks man I've always been nervous when fighting but I thank the LORD and my mother for gratitude I've learned to endure pain I meditate on a song called glybina from an artist named podval capella and I just feel relieved, hope all goes 👊
My coach did me like that too 😂😂 he taught me the basics first. One month later I was getting my azz whooped at least 2 times a week by open fighters and pros. 😂😂 I wouldn’t trade that experience for the world made me a better man and boxer.
What about one that says I been trying it for years and I keep failing it. That's me. Every gym I go to with no self confidence. Opposite of what you say.
sometimes ppl confuse being tough with having skills...how many times weve seen it primo... a guy wins a few street fights and thinks he can walk into a boxing gym...they see it on tv and 2 them it looks easy...they have no idea the cardio you need to b able to step into a ring and go 3 mins...and as far as those old school trainers go they didnt give a f*ck about makin money or sellin memberships...theyll throw you in right away..same way my old man taught me 2 swim...tossed me in the deep end and said figure it out 🤣🤣🤣
Its this new generation that talk too much and can do too little some might surprise you. Back in the day we just spar and showed what we capable of and then shocked the others.
In my experience and its not much 6 months most guys will quit after sparring you can see the guys that crave being hit and the guys that have no heart

I do the opposite. I’ve been boxing for almost 20 years and any gym I walk into I say I’ve only boxed a little bit. Always a lot of fun 😂
Factz 😂😂 stay humble 💯💯

Good video! Thank you!
Thanks champ!
But you can fake it by claiming you have less experience than you actually do.
you're better off keeping your mouth shut, and just listen and learn
Good video topic that actually happens quite often as well, especially in the amateur circuit!
