Wow, the mower sure runs fine. Excellent job of showing the moving parts and cleaning them. The mowers you and Mick work on sure look different than the ones on this side of the pond. But they all work on the same principle. Thanks for sharing.
Mower Man Best mowers over here are ones with Honda engines. Husqvarna is one of the more popular ones especially with the Honda engine. Smaller yards folks usually buy the cheaper ones and then put them to the curb when they don't start. Costs more to fix them than buy a new cheap one. Zero turn mowers are very popular but are quite expensive. They can mow a lawn in probably less than half the time because of their size and speed. I have a Cub Cadet lawn tractor that is pretty good so far.
Great Video, very comprehensive , covered all the points that i was seeking. I can now go ahead and service my own mower which is the XTL 50. Thank you.
Great video! I like the care and detail you put into all of it. Also showing a mower that looks like one the rest of us use (though still cleaner than mine - at the start) is also a big plus to me.. Thank you!
Very helpful video..just got a 1998 Quantum XM 50 to service and wasn't sure about the governor linkage which is a mess.. fortunately it's virtually identical to your one..seems yours is a 2005 engine if my eyesight can be trusted..fixing old mowers is just a recent hobby of mine so this type of video is perfect for me..thanks
Hi Mower Man, Thank you for this excellent video, very clear and easy to follow even for a complete beginner. I have the same engine and this will help me a lot. Greetings from Belgium. Thanks again
Hi, thank you for the video! I was wondering if you maybe had an engine rebuild manual for this exact machine with all the torque settings and procedures described. Thank you in advance!
Hi can you tell me what the air gap is on the quantum 50 engine please for the coil and the kill switch coil aswell please.. great video thanks. My spark is very weak and it wont start but will fire wirh a bit help of carb cleaner and will tick over all day but will not start with key or without carb cleaner after that. Thanks
Use a playing card or a greetings card. If you have spark the gap must be ok. If the kill switch connects and disconnects it doesn't matter about the gap. Sounds very much like the carb needs a clean. Also fit a new ngk plug
Hi Paul, I have the Admiral 16 version of this. Bought it as a none starter. I can get it to start but it’s lumpy and doesn’t run properly. Even on full throttle it’s very hesitant. Any suggests please? PS love the marigolds and the videos are so helpful
My linkages dont seem to be behaving correctly....spring on and all clean....linkage round back all clear. When I move the throttle lever there is no movement to the carb lever so no gas. Manually i can work the carb and she fires up fine. Just something not right with spring from carb to throttle lever. What am I doing wrong?
While cleaning around the carb I found a Very Small spring about 1.5inches long and can't figure out where the little bugger fit's, it probably came unlatched when I was giving the carb a blast of high pressure air after spraying on some Carb Cleaner. It's so frustrating not knowing where it should go and I didnt take a photo before hand. {please Help}
George Touma put the throttle on choke. Then adjust the cable with a single screw to make sure the choke itself is fully closed. It needs to be fully closed to start
Hello its me again. Now my Atco Viscount will not start unless I put petrol in the piston, then it will run all day. I have cleaned the carb twice and checked all the moving parts as per your video. Even when I prime it, it wont start and when i remove the plug its dry. The way its going it will end up in an Auction. Thanks..
Can u modify a lawnmower engine to work on a rotorvator I have changed that dreaded engine what you sold on the carb wouldn't stop pissing out so changed for a Briggs n statton champion 375 engine
What's that you say.... there's a mower up t'north that needs a wipe over with WD40 & a new spark plug? There's only one man for the job...call Marigold Man! LOL
There has to be some middle ground between having the camera affixed to a tripod or other immovable object & you whipping it around without pausing long enough to get a good view of things you describe. All those quick jerky camera movements are vertigo inducing...

Extremely helpful. Was able to get my throttle linkage working which fixed the non-functioning idle speed control - thank you!
Excellent well done John!

Great suggestion!
also can you describe how to put a new propeller cord on as mine seems stretched on my quantum briggs and Stratton, ta
Give it a really good clean out😀
Thanks for this. Wondered if there was a governor somewhere, and now I know where it is, and that it can jam up with debris and affect performance.
Yep dropped screws inside couple times now I grab them with needle nose before I remove
Yeah Runs nice. 2005 model. Pull cord looks fine. Stats great off the key.
Micks Mowers It's a beauty Mick! Finally got some forceps!
Nice mower Paul. And in good condition.
Micks Mowers 19'inch cut I think Mick!
Mower Man yeah mate. I asked the question just because you said it. That will teach me to wait till the end lol
Hello. I have a similar lawn mower, and when it is working, you can hear the ringing. What could be? Thank you
Can you show me how to get into a quantum on a briggs and Stratton valve area and also how to change the belt on self driven which belt is on the side
Hi, thank you for the video! I was wondering if you maybe had an engine rebuild manual for this exact machine with all the torque settings and procedures described. Thank you in advance!
I don't im afraid
@@MowerMan no, worries. Thanks anyway!

@Mower Man thank you so much im going out to see if i can get it to run today. Thanks for your help.
Before you pull back the govenor spring would the butterfly in the carb be wide open or closed ??
depends where the throttle is set to
Hi Mr. You know where but the battery for this machine, please

Could be a choke not opening properly or the carb needs a service
Do you put service stickers on the mowers you sell?
Edward Broomhead No Edward
Edward Broomhead it’s something I’m looking to do this year
My linkages dont seem to be behaving correctly....spring on and all clean....linkage round back all clear. When I move the throttle lever there is no movement to the carb lever so no gas. AJP Garden Machines It's a belter isn't it!!
Hello, how many kw this machine..thanck you!
No idea sorry
I have the exact same engine and have starting problems. The choke butterfly is not closing. Would replacing the governor spring solve this issue?
George Touma put the throttle on choke. Then adjust the cable with a single screw to make sure the choke itself is fully closed. It needs to be fully closed to start

Got this mower and it’s surging like mad. I’ve drilled out the main jet to 1.10mm which helped a bit but not massively. Any ideas?
It also has a brand new carb
Turns out it had a air leak where the intake tube meets the engine block
Displacement? 50cc?
Can u modify a lawnmower engine to work on a rotorvator I have changed that dreaded engine what you sold on the carb wouldn't stop pissing out so changed for a Briggs n statton champion 375 engine
