The work in the salon is incredible, such effort you put into it. Looking forward to seeing the finish product, it will be stunning.
Thank you, it's a long but rewarding job in such a stunning room Cx
“I’d take a hammer to that” haha, totally agree with you Adrian. Carol has the patience of a clam to deal with all that trim! Cheers Kirk
Think she’d take a hammer to me if I break anything in that room. 😂
Even though you chateau is not very large, it is one of the more exquisite inside. Such wonderful work along the ceilings!
It’s still pretty big!!!
The chateau is so lucky to have found you as owners. Your work is just incredible. The salon will be fantastic with your attention to detail. Thanks so much for sharing your journey with us.
Thank you Claudia, I never tire of looking at this room, even though the work is long and hard Cx
Hello Adrian and Carol, my name is Diana. I have been watching and learning from you both, different aspects and treatments in the Chateau. Your journey is extremely inspiring.
Engineering and decorating is interesting and so kind of you not to be selfish with your ideas.
Thank you so much.
It is Easter 2024 and beautiful weather. Diana
Thank you Diana and happy Easter 😊
So nice to see the garden areas being restored!
WOW... You two are absolutely AMAZING!!! An AWESOME team...
The Chateau is coming along Beautifully!!! Thanks for sharing your progress with us... it's just STUNNING!!!
Your welcome Jen!
I love Normandy and had no idea that is where you live. Oh the beauty of your choice. Your energy is simply phenomenal.
The salon is going to look so beautiful when done. All that scroll and floral molding is beautiful but yes that noise you were making Carole was nails on a blackboard.
Hence the ear protectors!
Amen!!
Love the time lapse on the tidying up by the wall garden. Fantastic work guys and as always Carols intricate work on the mouldings. Your also interesting to listen to Adrian with your comments and humour. Thank you
Glad you enjoyed it
A boat load of hard toil clearing overgrowth does provide very satisfying results. I was out in the gardn yesterday doing one of those jobs I've been meaning to do for a while. I finished, very pleased with myself. Executive domestic management bought me a cup of tea and I spread spread my arms wide and said "Ta Da!". "What?" was the instant reply. Honestly, I don't know why I bother. :-)
haha. they have know idea how much work goes into clearing weeds etc....
Carol your dedication is amazing
Carol I’m amazed at all the patience you have for that molding great work ethic
I was watching you Carole, up on the scaffolding scraping the paint off on the trim at the ceiling. I’m conscious of what an intimate job, restoration is. You are literally touching and manipulating every inch of the whole room, on a very personal level. I may be waxing romantic here lol, but you are walking in the same footsteps of the Masters that created the original. You are so talented, and dedicated to detail. What a difference clearing out the nettles along the wall. The time lapse is always so revealing in how much is being done, and the final look is great. Take care, be well.
Thank you, I'm doing my best although it's going to take a while, working above head height is very tiring, I'm still trying to get the flaky paint out of my hair, next time I'll remember my shower cap! Cx
😆🌷
Hard work, but gardening is so rewarding. It's really special to eat the food you have grown with your own hands. I think that flowers grown inside or outside always make us happy. It is great you have so many rocks to use as borders!! I see both of you are working on your tans. Good to see you again! Thanks!
Getting a tan is such hard work ,Adrian never believes me!!
It's looking great! The walled garden just gets prettier & prettier. Lots of work on that mounding. Sorry about Bethany leaving. ❤️
She will return and my mother is back at the weekend! Followed by months of family and friends
You both are amazing, if I just had your energy, I used to but at 71 I'm slowly running out of steam. Carole you are getting me motivated though I have a small bathroom that needs new wallpaper so that will be my project in the fall when it's cooler. God Bless, Kathy 🇺🇸?
You can do it!
Wow, I didn't realize your property line backed up to the village. The grounds are taking shape and looking good, the salon is coming along bit by bit, you really do have the patience of a saint. The finished room will be an amazing accomplishment .
Bit by bit is how it's going to be for a while. It's all in the preparation Cx
Wonderful video! Love that you are using landscaping fabric to help keep the weeds under control along the wall. Great job!
Thank you, I wonder if it would work in the bamboo! I doubt it! Very hot weather coming, the drink holder will gets its first use!
@ - Bamboo roots suck. That's why it's recommended to keep bamboo in pots. You need an excavators to get them out. No matter where they grow, their roots head to China. 🙂
I am amazed at what you've already accomplished! It looks better with each video. Truly a labor of love!!!
I'm glad you can see an improvement, I don't feel like im getting very far atm Cx
Your walled garden is one of the best! I love watching it all come together! My favorite kind of time lapse!
We then just need to keep on top of it. It's so easy to just let it go.
I loved the music as well.
the walled garden looks so good, and with the weeds cleared out it's a huge blank canvas! Maybe some espalier fruit trees??
Wouldn't they be lovely Cx
I watch several chateau vlogs, but your is by far my favorite. I love how hard you both work. It is all coming along quite nicely ❤❤❤
Thank you for your support and we are so glad you are enjoying the video’s
Wow Carole, such patience you have. Good job on clearing the wall in the garden.....love your fruit trees, that's what I miss from my days growing up here in Canada.
The sound of the claw totally freaked out my poor cat! Yours probably goes into hiding when you have these jobs to do.
Is there a corner in the garden where you could let the nettles and other weeds grow? They are so useful for bees and butterflies and other insects.
We have left our 5 acre field natural for that reason
I love watching you work to save the original moldings and features in the chateau. Even what you have added you have kept with the look of the original work. You are not stripping everything away to make it stark and modern. Yes it is a ton of work but my how amazing to see you bring back those rooms to show off the craftsmanship. I admire what you are doing and look forward to the end result, but watching the process is also amazing, from floors to ceilings beautiful. Thank you for keeping and repairing what is there.
Hi Veronica. Thank you for your kind comments and yes we are keen to keep the château as originally as possible.
With the molding you’re stripping with the peel away where it looks so rough use Jesso which is just water down plaster and use that a little filling all those holes that’s how we restore old moldings and plaster here in the Goldsboro house which was built in 1780
Happy Anniversary! The gardens are really taking shape! Well done Carole and Adrian! thanks Bethany for editing the vlog!
Thank you once again Melissa Cx
30 years ago I used peel away to remove paint from an old hundred year old farmhouse woodwork. Loved it never knew anybody else who used it until I watched you today so glad it’s still in business.
It has been 20 years since I last used it, but was very happy with the results back then.
You both Crack me up! Darn covid is still around everywhere. My nephew and his wife are also recent victims. Hope you get cleared up from it soon.
Carol, your attention to detail and patience is impressive. Great work on the garden guys.
Best wishes all.
Carole’s much better now. Just a spell of migraine. Yes the garden is now ready for Alf and Val to take over next week. 😂
PG Tips we will miss Bethany look forward to seeing her in August . Garden looks so good u worked really hard on that I’m loving the wall it looks amazing . 🙏🏻🙏🏻👍👏👏🇬🇧🇬🇧
Still a long way to ho on that wall but hopefully a job that won't have to be done again.
The salon is really coming along Carol with just sanding and a lick of paint has made a difference already. Hope you are feeling much better, dont over do it. The walled garden is so much improved now you have cleared it. Loved watching. See you both soon xx
Thank you Annette, thankfully the worst had passed by the time we had taken Bethany to the ferry and I was able to get back to work with just a headache.
@ know what ut is to have migraine I suffer with them names you feel dick and yuck 🤮
@ sick not dick
I,ve been watching you foxfire I go to sleep at night ...and you totally wear me out ...better than sleeping pills...you are both bloody amazing ...x from Queensland
You lucky thing, what can I watch to help me sleep? Cx
Carol here is some free advice from a Chiropractor........it may be time for a massage. Often headaches especially migraines are aggravated &/or caused by tight muscles in the neck, shoulders and upper back. Icing your neck for 20 minutes will often help reduce the pain. Cheers from Toronto!
Or a holiday with a spa treatment. 😂
I don’t know how you have the patience Carol but I’m glad you do 👍 great work guys xx
😊 thank you
Whoa that is some amazing yard work, I love yard work!!! Were you showing your work muscles. Just beautiful!!! The piece that was done on the trim is beautiful, I am really impressed, you all be safe, have a wonderful week.
Thank you
Another great day of gardening, the weather looks fantastic
It’s even hotter next week although Adrian will miam it’s too hot. 😂
Such attention to detail Carol, the restoration will be fabulous. The garden looks lovely but don't work yourself too hard.
Thanks so much 😊
So satisfying when it all manicured so you can actually enjoy the space.
I wish it would stop growing so fast!
Digging out those weeds is back breaking work hats off to you both.
I think you are opening a can of worms with the plasterwork far better to leave it as if you treat 1 part you will have to do it all..... and from the ground level a lot of the (problematic) elements don't show only you will know from being on the scaffolding.
I'm sure it will look magnificent when it's all done
Unfortunately Carole is a perfectionist and if she knows it’s not right then it’s not right!
The wall area is looking great! Carole, as always your detailed work is outstanding!
I wouldn't go that far, but thank you Cx
You and Adrian work so hard, whether it be inside or outside the chateau, Carol!! I'm exhausted just watching you!! Crack On!!! 🤗 USA
Thanks Jane and yes we will continue to crack on. 😛
Thank you Jane, the past 2 days have been very exhausting in this hot weather 29° today and getting hotter , I have just collapsed on the bed after mowing Cx
Doing the most fantastic hard work. Those vines have a determined growth,
Don't they just! It took Adrian 3 hours to get one of the ivy roots out. Poor old man!
You are an amazing lady and so patient and talented. The room will be so beautiful well done 🤗
Thank you Susannah
Oh how I love a good old time lapse lol unbelievable job! I had to plug my ears when Carol was scraping lol you both are such hard workers. Much love from Oklahoma USA Jackie 🇺🇸💖
Thanks Jackie
You have more patience than I do, Carole! Can’t wait to see it all restored! ❤
Nor can I! Cx
The detail reviewed from stripping the mouldings ,crisp edges from year's of thick distemper and dust ,slow progress you can only do it in short bursts.
Nice to have the walled area cleaned up. The area Carol was mowing is also a lovely area. Lots to look after though, still you are young enough - not like me. I am at downsizing age.
Wont be long before we will be on the downsizing age...
It's always hard when loved ones leave...busy is good and you are spoiled for choice.
At least she’ll be back soon!
Carol...I've used peel away myself...it will feel like it's never ending...but it will be worth it...a tooth brush and some clay tools helped me with the intricate detail after peeling it off...it will be beautiful and all your hard work will pay off..🙂
Sorry to see Bethany go. The beach footage was beautiful. I'm always amazed at all you accomplish!! Love from Vermont
Thanks Rebekah. Yes I wish we had stayed longer at the beach but unfortunately work to be done!
Carole, you two have to be the hardest working chateaulans (sp?) in ALL of France!!! Holy moly! Adrian, the time lapse in fast mode doing the strimming, I wish it really could go that fast!!!! Great job! Carole, you have the patience of a saint! Working with that molding and paint remover!!! I watch and I think, WOW, look at her go!!!!! The GARDEN!! Terrific , just beautiful!!! When you are done, I hope you sit down, have a wonderful, cool, yummy drink, sigh, and smile!!!! Love from Wisconsin
Thank you Kathy, but No, we don't sit down and look at our work, today especially, I have collapsed on the bed exhausted, the sun is proving difficult to work in. And by the weekend it's up to 35°, I got Adrian to blow up my favourite lilo today and never got to use it! Maybe tomorrow Cx
I'd say your workshop looks pretty neat and the detail work is certainly coming along....getting there Carole... Your walled garden is looking so much neater and is now taking shape. The walls are certainly coming along without the ivy and weeds.....what a job. Well done guys!
Thanks Jane!
Really enjoyed watching you. Sorry you suffer from migraine, horribly. Hope you're OK now. XX
Thank you Mel, the worst of it was at night, so I was able to get back to work later on in the afternoon. Cx
Well it’s not much of a secret garden now! I really admire Carols attention to detail in all she does. I I miss Bethany too.
Guess it’s not now. 😂
I didn't know that your Chateau was so close to the village. The secret garden looks so good. Definitely somewhere to sit at night:)
It really is!
So much had work maintaining the gardens but every little bit looks better and the salon will be stunning. xx
Yes, day by day we are slowly getting there. Extra help next week in the garden!
Loved your solution to removing the paint Adrian, ´use a hammer on it´ lol. Such hard work and both of you never seem to stop
Thanks Germaine! Never heard the word “stop”. Doesn’t exist here. 😂
Amazing effort you two… live long and enjoy fruits of your labor 💪👍🍺
Such hard workers! How do you not fight? It's all really looking great! Thanks for sharing😍
Your welcome Donna!
The garden and grand salon are looking superb. Good on you.
Thanks so much Lorraine!
A pitchfork is easier to use to pick up brush save yourself some work
I enjoy watching your journey so much! Thank you for sharing with us!
You are welcome!
Well, I’m exhausted watching you two. Great clean out.
It's great to see the progress at the end of the day. Cx
Still that plaster design from your salon is really quite beautiful. It seems very fiddly work but I’m sure the end result will be stunning.
Although it’s hard work at the moment I’m sure you’ll agree it will be worth it
@ absolutely!
So look forward to Sunday all my favourite vlogs are on thank you so much guys I am paralysed after brain bleed watching you guys your amazing xx
Take it easy!
Sending prayers & healing thoughts to you Geraldine!
U could put all those nettles on the compost bin. Also make nettle tea and soup.
Our compost pile is already too big. Thankfully the tip is at the bottom of our field
The paint removal method is fascinating!
Great to see progress with the coving - another challenging job for you Carole.
Does Adrian know you are using his credit card for pasting peel away onto plaster …..? 😃
It’s the only time it ever gets used these days. 😂
Adrian - Whats happing on the other side of your wall? It looks like some heavy equipment is working, we can just see the yellow arm of a backhoe.
The hidden garden lower wall area looks great! Can't wait to see what Carole plants along it.
They are renovating a building so it can be used by the villagers for events etc. I think the digger was flattening the car park
"She's leaving us, bye bye" Beatles. See you in August, Beth.
She can’t wait to come back as her brother Matt will also be here!
The weed free wall looks so much better. Good job.
Hello from Mexico. It is incredible the great restoration that you are doing, I congratulate you
Thank you Angelica
You can make nettle soup, high in iron and the plant is supposed to be good for the soil
Instead of the peel off I'd use porridge mixed with wallpaper glue and cover it with clingfilm. It might be just as messy as your chemical but it will be much cheaper and you do not have to neutralize it - but progress is looking so good
Have you actually tried this method, did it work?
Yes I tried it in my old appartment - build just before 1900 with elaborate coving and loft rossets - not as much as the chateau but still. I send the gude in a previous comment but if you can't find it let me know and I'll resend it. Added bonus is when you have pulled the majority off and needs to clean the small stuf you can use Adrians toothbrush for that job 😉😂
Good team, it looks great
Great Job harmonies cupel
Great job on all your jobs 🤗☕🍰🤗☕🍰
Love Sue❤❤❤🇬🇧❤❤❤
Thanks Sue!
FYI: The nettles can be rubbed on the skin where you have inflammation from rheumatoid arthritis. They serve a purpose!!!! Yes the secret garden is really looking beautiful under your loving hands !
Thank you!
Shame you don’t use the Nettles for there dietary and medical properties dating back to medical times.
Oh Carole, I sure hope you feel better soon.
Thank you I am nearly back on form Cx
Does the top of the walled garden T the end need pointing? It looks like someone pointed 3/4 of the way up and stopped. Don’t want anything falling on you.
Yes most of the walls need repointing. It’s on my to do list. 😉
Bye Beth. Have fun at school. See ya soon. Great job on the vids. You three make a great team.
In August there will be 4. Her brother Matt is also coming over
Are you planning on to,replace those ugly radiators with something more modern and effective?
Hi Allan. We will try to keep as much if the original fixtures as possible
Have you thought about donating all the nettles you cut down to a local pig farmer?
Unfortunately we don’t have any pig farms around here
Are you gonna get rid of the rest of that bamboo and a jungle around the wall
Eventually
Nettles like good soil and make excellent compost don't throw it away will take decades to restore furtility again.
When I used pealaway on an outside painted stone wall, I left it for a couple of days and came of perfectly
That’s handy to know. Thanks Richard
If you had put a lubricant like KY Jelly on it, would it have been easier to take off?
That would prevent the chemical working and thankfully never needed that!
What a difference!. But why aren't you composting? I never have to buy compost any more. It's really worth doing. All the vegetation you give the tip, they make compost and sell it!.
Hi Bridget. We do have a compost heap but can only compost so much.
Can’t really “wash” plaster. It dissolves in water…
Gardens looking good but as I’m an operating theatre nurse you did make me cringe watching you mow in your flip flops Carol !!!
👍👍👍👍👍
Lovely
💕I’ve only ever painted peel away onto the surface to be stripped💕
👍👍💯
I hope that weed killer is environmentally friendly, otherwise it could kill bees and good insects and damaging to your health too.
Hi Patricia. Confused as we didn’t use weed killer. We only laid a weed barrier down
missing your camera girl and the daily vlogs...
Sorry, editing took so long! She may do it again in August
Why exactly is Carole cutting the lawn while you hold the camera? Why is Carole raking the backyard while you hold the camera? How about you give some work a try and let her hold the camera for a bit.... what do you say?
😂 I’m camera shy
cool
