    If you message Peter from his channel - "It's a Wonderful Life" he cleaned all his window furnishings, I think by baking them in the oven, not sure but ask him. They had a Chateau and were renovating it and he did an amazing job.

    The old plow is a terrific piece of garden feature. I agree with your husband. The idea that it was a part of the property is a bonus. I'm hoping you will acquiesce. It would work well with the wonderful obelisks (love that you put white roses in them) flanking the stairs. Exquisite is the perfect word for the log burner. If it can't be used in the salon, hopefully it will be displayed somewhere else. Just picturing it all cleaned and treated with stove black makes me smile. Great progress all around. Love your videos.

    • @mandrews1245
      @mandrews1245 2 года назад

      I'm not sure it would work for hardwood flooring. Wood isn't the best conductor of heat. I would think the floors would dry out and eventually cup or split. However if they were going to lay stone or cement that would work with underfloor heating.

    • @cherylstraub5970
      @cherylstraub5970 2 года назад +1

      @@mandrews1245 the original floor had sand as its base, Sand would work much the same as stone. Also the heat doesn't have to be as high if using wood. In old episodes of "This Old House" they often use underfloor heat for early houses.

    I am hopeless at DIY, gardening is really my thing. To wit - my I suggest that you erect a seasoned wood trellis (attached to the wall with metal hooks) for the Jasmin. This will help you control growth of the plant with annual pruning, while protecting the stone. Looks like a couple of the large mature trees could do with a good pollarding, to ensure the grass doesn't die, due to too much shade and lack of water. Just in case you you're either bored or don't have enough work to do. :-) Thanks for sharing as always, you lovely people.

    Hi I’m a antique cleaner here in the USA & u can go to RUclips as well & this is I’ve found a great way to clean silver boil water a good amount to cover your pieces and add a teaspoon of salt and baking soda now put your pieces into a large enough container add your boiling water your teaspoon of salt now your backing soda it will rise and hopefully if you don’t add to much at once about a 1/2 a cup since your pieces are small do it in the sink just to be sure that way if you add too much it will just overflow in the sink. Add more baking soda if necessary if you have questions look up how to clean silver with baking soda and water with salt and the video should pop right up. Good luck!!!

    I think this will be awsome!
    I understand that he want to be able to hawe an open fire in the great hall i would love that too, but that logburner was very beautiful so i fully agree with that it shall hawe a prominent place in one magnificent room.
    I think that old plow thing will look great somewhere once it's cleaned up a bit, You can put flowerbaskets and claypots with herbs or strawberries on it if it stays in the garden, that's what i had done with it!
    Those post WW1 builds are usualy pretty s***y and hastly made and with inferior materials since people had to use what they could got their hands on and they wanted to hawe somewhere to live and use, and firewood was regulated and expensive during the war so it make sense people did change those beautiful old fireplaces into the new style with what they had.
    I see no shame in tearing down all that trash and restore things back to what they where originaly ment to be, i think that's what people wanted after the war but could not afford it then it stayed that way because of that 1930-40s new fasion i guess. This will be realy beatuiful whan tho old marble come to life again!

    I honestly thought after 39 years of marriage I was the only woman that said to my husband, “you don’t think ahead “! This made me feel so good.

    That Godin is an incredible find! If you don't use it in the southfacing salon bc you'd rather have an open fire tgen do use it anywhere you need additional heat, beautiful! Put if up for auction on auctionnet should you not agree on using it at all, you'll probably make a handsome profit!

    Pretty sure that burner is for coal, so unsuitable for wood.
    unfortunately. Definitely put it somewhere else for looks as it is lovely.

    regarding the hardware, try regular cocacola, leaving it submerged. or try white vinegar and leaving it overnight in an old crockpot

    Maybe a wire brush attachment on a drill would shift the paint on the door furniture? If you mounted them in a vice?

    First time seeing your château. Would the antique portable heater be useful on a cool day out on a stone terrace? Otherwise tuck it indoors to prevent rust.

    A length of plastic drain pipe, rone pipe closed at each end and some 'Cristaux de soude' ( washing soda in english ) and it will all come off. For rust it's best to go with hot vinegar, beware of the fumes ! I recently dunked some old secateurs in vinegar and they came out as new !

    Don't use coal burner in main room as I can see that it not going to be easy to fit good size firewood and it doesn't look like it hold door seals to prevent smoke and sparks getting into the room. Maybe you should go to a logburner specialists for something that is new, safe and easy to use just for that room only

    blow torch and a couple shaped wire brush on a drill should take it off, i personally put mine in an actual fire, but if you want to be careful a blow torch, if its cast iron you can safely put it in an actual fire in the coals and the paint will just burn off, dont add any extra like powered air, but a normal little fire
