Adrian and Carole your work ethic is amazing!!! You are doing wonderful things of both the chateau and the outside area! Love what Carole has done with the stair railing (can’t wait to see the roses grow!). And admire Adrian for tackling that ivy!!! Hi Carole & Adrian, great job on the railings, they look wonderful, just enough gold...it's going to look beautiful when the roses grow! Never ending garden work, you guys are doing an amazing job! Great idea Carole that would be a great place for a bench, to sit back, relax and enjoy all your hard work! Hope the cherry picker works out for you guys. Thank you for sharing, take really good care of yourselves, stay well! Lots of love Kathy x 💖

Ugh, I hate seeing sweet Carole on her hands and knees weeding like that. Really, landscape fabric/plastic is one of the worst things to put over your soil. The best? Compost and mulch. There's a video of a very experienced plantsman, Jim Putnam, here in North Carolina on how to control weeds. We have very heavy clay soil here in the Southern United States (we make bricks and pottery from it literally), it's just awful to dig in, and it's awful to try to get the weeds out and he has completely transformed his soil in less than 2 years. I took his advice and my soil just gets better and better every season. Do I still have to weed? Yes, but minimally. I'm certain it will work for y'all, too! Cheers from North Carolina

I love roses but, why would you want them to cover handrails? Some people do need the handrails to navigate steps and who wants to grab a handful of thorns! All the work you have put into the handrails looks beautiful, why hide them.

    •  2 года назад

I'm hoping to train the roses to grow over the middle section at the top of the steps, not so much the hand rails. I'm not disabled yet! Heading that way though! Cx

Your railing turned out wonderfully Carol! I agree - the gold circles wouldn't have contributed as much as the knobby bits did! I understand the battle with ivy - when we moved to our place both sides of our property were covered with it. You have glorious stone walls underneath, whereas I had an old broken down wooden fence! Enjoy the good weather!

You two are amazing on how you work so well together and get things done....love it!! Your place is looking so good and you have come so far. The gold on the railings is perfect Carole...a real touch of "class"!! Adrian, the stone work looks amazing and makes everything look so neat. I think that that door you opened would make a perfect storage room for your gardening tools, etc.,.....good find! I am so glad to hear that you are getting Billy's cherrypicker as it will be a perfect addition to your chateau and will save you a bundle over time. Well done!! One day....you will clear all of the ivy then it will be just the maintenance of it, which I hope will be a lot easier than these huge vines and roots!! You are getting there!!! Well done as usual and thank you for your excellent videos!💝💐

Love how the railing is going with the gold but it seems odd not to have any gold in the center at the landing. Maybe by painting the rectangle, not including your circles, area gold and leave the outer part white might give it the wow factor and tie the rest of the railing together. You need a larger area of gold to make it stand out. Just a thought. Enjoying this channel. How sweet of your daughter to edit these videos for you. I know it takes quite a lot of time.

    •  2 года назад

The roses are growing quickly and soon be over that middle section covering it up, I hope! Editing does take a long time which we don't have or are capable of, it was Bethany's idea and she is more than happy to do it. Maybe she might do daily vlogs for an entire week, when she comes to stay.

Love the idea of the roses covering the center. Imagine family photos on the landing, with the roses in full bloom.
I'm not much of a painter, but it's always a good idea to leave a significant amount of time between coats, indoors or outdoors,( no matter what the can says). The paint will just peel off if it hasn't dried all the way through.

Hi Adrian and Caroll. You amazing work has inspired me to get on with the restoration of our retirement cottage. A golden oldie that needed a lit of work. The geyser pipes burst in the roof 4 times in all and eventuslly we had to replace the whole ting so we moved to an outside wall. Putting in pvc ceilings that are waterproof and insulate against our cold winters on South Africa. We live in Kroonstad in the Free State of S A. Kroonstad would be Crown Town in English. When ine travels from Gauteng/Johannesnurg to Cape Town we are about two hours drive from the Witwatersrand ( White Waters Ridge ) My father was from Ashington on Tyne in Northumberland. A Methodist preacher for a grandfather with 11 children. They had no TV in those days. Greeings from Soth Africa. Bill Heslop. The Heslop is from the midlands i was told

Un château ne demande pas forcément de la dorure partout vous commencez trop de travaux et nous ne les voyons pas avancer ou finis dommage

    •  2 года назад +1

As most chateau owners will tell you, priorities change by the day. Our endless work depends on various challenges. Choosing the correct materials and actually sourcing them, weather, actually physical capability and mental state of mind. A job can take 3x as long in a chateau and the obstacles in the way are endless. The unexpected problems uncovered along the way is probably the worst nightmare. Along with cost and tools. So unfortunately not all jobs get finished no, but they will eventually, time is no issue for us, so we can pick and chose what we think we can endure in a day. The railings are finished now!!!!!! We watch you and your vlogs each time and are blown away by the amount of work the two of you manage to do. Carole the railings outside look stunning and the gold balls are just enough, not over the top. You always have such brilliant ideas, and what you have achieved so far inside your Chateau, is incredible. Now your talents are turned outside as the weather is perfect for outdoor jobs. Yes, putting that seat/bench out in the orchard is such a good idea....with that view....wow. Adrian, goodness, what a job that ivy is. Once it has rooted it's such bloomin hard work to remove it, isn't it? In 4.10 on your vlog today, you took the Lord's name in vain. It might not mean anything to you, but some others that are watching (our family especially) are offended by that, so could you please not. Thanks Adrian. Anyway, onward and upward. We cheer you on each time you vlog and are simply amazed at what the both of you achieve. Well done! From our family here in Toronto, Canada.

Did you know nettles have the ability to detoxify the body, improve metabolic efficiency, boost immunity, increase circulation, improve energy levels, manage menstruation, minimize menopausal symptoms, and aid in skin care. It has the power to protect the kidney and gallbladder health and much more? I assume they were part of the chateau's medicinal garden.

No leave them white the structure of the circle is lost with gold. Much nicer white and i love the middle architecture of the centre railing and its original, yes/no ?? I would keep it as is!! Only my opinion interesting what other comments are! 🍷🍷💐🇨🇦

No gold on the centre section, my roses will cover it.

I liked the purple tape. Will one of the roses be purple? Are you missing a couple of the pieces going down the railing?

I'm always curious about what time you managed to get to bed each night. All your hard work must lead to exhaustion most days.

    •  2 года назад

It's usually shower after 7, late dinner at 8 and straight to bed with aching bodies, ready for it all to start again!!!!!

A gazebo would be lovely in your top field with a nice swing? Great job on the railings and the roses will be gorgeous wound thru that middle railing. I also loved the redone stone facade into the garden area. I bet some of that ivy is older than all of us!!! Have a great week Carole and Adrian!

if you bang a small (maybe 2 inch) piece of old copper pipe into the root of the ivy it will kill the roots.. You can also use a copper nail, but takes longer.

Place cardboard over the weeds. Don’t waste you back pulling that !!!!! Lay cardboard in layers, wet it down. Add compost and plant. No Dig Method.

Just a cultivator (plow) for rows. Junk the broken wheel. Looks good - the gold knobs. Please get rid of that dangerous Ivy on the wall. What about spray the Ivy, then take it down,

Hi Carole and Adrian, I imagine there's been lots of lovely comments about the additional paintwork on the railings and well deserved too..
I looked at the side of the building where you're thinking of putting the cherry picker. It does look a tad tight but I suppose it's a case of wait and see. Wouldn't want it picking stones out your wall eh.
Don't know if you you've had the rain you wanted yet but we've got it in East Anglia. I'll swap you for the 🌞. Take care both.

Adrian, don’t show Carole that cutting stone or she will try to make a mold to fashion a new one! Lol. The roses will be stunning on the railing, love that idea! The secret garden is my favorite little hide away, I could sit in there for hours with a good book! Mmmmmm, strawberry/rhubarb sauce or pie, one of my favorite foods.

So much hard work but each week there is so much improvement. Removing ivy is not fun and with years of ivy growth the stems are like tree trunks. Those little knobs in gold are a perfect touch. I thought about saying it but didn’t want to add to your work load. I’m glad you did it and opted against painting the center circles gold. When the roses grow up to the top it will be stunning. I love roses and flowers, so urns with flowers and spots of color makes everything beautiful. Have a lovely week. xx

Thank you Stephanie, you can always suggest, it didn't occur to me until someone suggested it! It was actually a quick job doingvthegold balls and with satisfying results. Unlike the ivy, that goes on and on. Cx

Carole I really like the big gold knobs and the little gold knobs up the stair railings it really looks pretty. The yard is really coming along from when you first started cleanup, I can't wait to see all the flowers you'll plant as things progress. God Bless, Kathy 🇺🇸

I actually like no gold on the bannister outside. Gold can be overpowering. Plus do you really want to be touching it up all the time? I am sure you can find plenty of other things to do like sitting on your various benches in the gardens.

It's done now and I'm pleased with it, we actually don't get much time to sit anywhere but I will make time to lie in the pool!!!

Given that the roof next to the farmhouse is bad, couldnt you move the stone wall while you doing the stone work, so the cherrypicker can fit ?
