I took 8mg films for 16 YEARS. my doc and I tapered slowly down to. 25mg. I think .50 was the lowest I could go. It's been 5 months sub free and I feel great. The worst part was insomnia. The first few nights you could've hit me with an elephant tranquilizer and I still wouldn't sleep. I'm 57 and it's not too hard to stop. I'm free!

I am currently one week in sober. Been on 12/16 mg a day for 7 years. About 2 strips. Im at the point in my life that I deserve to feel the shittiness of withdrawal for ever letting it go this long. Im doing this cold turkey. No alcohol. No weed. No drugs. I hate it controlling/having a say over my life. I already feel a little better and not as much anxiety/depression/numbness. Yes the no sleep really sucks along with body aches but I suck it up and sleep 3/4 hours a day. I just keep telling myself it wont be like this forever. And I can do it. I control my destiny. Good luck to everyone trying or going thru the same as me. Or even if you haven't started yet but wanna do it. The first step is one day. And then its one day at a time. Mind over matter. God bless.

We need to support each other. We can't go to a doctor and have them give us another drug to avoid the symptoms. Those withdrawal symptoms are your body telling you "I'm going to war for you". The hard part was the next month and a 1/2 of feeling like trash 24 / 7. Literally not sleeping for days on end, depression and cravings and zero energy. This Doc is also smart by assuring you that your energy level won't recover for a few months. Exercise, Clonidine and a FAT diet (eat as much as you care and don't look back) can help you. Experiencing huge depression is normal. Weed can help a lot if you can get it. If not, a drink or 3 "now and then" might help you through your worst. Think, smoke (a cig or weed) and take a drink before you cave to the opioid. You can do it.

There's also a medication over the counter called hylands restless leg. It's amazing, it's dissolves, and it really works. You take it and ten min later you don't even have restless legs anymore. Idk if it'll help with withdrawal but the restless part it may.

I quit fentanyl in 2019, I was aware of the difficulty of coming off suboxone. The doctor was trying hard to get me on it, I did not want to. He was raving about the success he had had with patients, saying tapering down would be easy when the time came, years down the road. I had to ask him four or five times, directly, how many of his patients had successfully quit suboxone. He finally answered...zero. While I understand the benefit it can provide, saying no to all opioids and going through a tough cold turkey was one of the best decisions of my life. Four years later, sober and no looking back!

Thank you for sharing your story, Tres Fort. Buprenorphine can be a great treatment for many people, and we have about 100 such patients in Richmond. We also think it’s important that people understand the pros and cons before starting any mode of MAT for opioids-whether it is methadone, buprenorphine, or naltrexone. Our historical expertise has been in getting folks quickly detoxes off of opioids (including buprenorphine and methadone) and onto the long-acting opioid-blocker naltrexone to reduce cravings and help people get stable in early recovery. No one path works for everyone. Very glad to hear that you found the right path for you. Best wishes!

I have had times where I cannot sleep and all I do is thrash my legs so hard I bounce off the bed for eight hours and this happens over and over and over it’s like torture. I finally talked to a Doctor Who had wrote two books on restless leg syndrome. And she told me to take magnesium. So I have been taking 1000 mg of magnesium at night and my restless legs are gone even after stopping the Suboxone. Most people with restless leg syndrome Need to take a lot of magnesium because they are magnesium deficient. Good luck and God bless you. Sounds extreme but I went completely insane . 7 months in a brain fog so thick I barely remember 2023. I began engaging in high risk behaviors that I was into during my active alcoholism. I have been sober 5 years but it was like I was drinking again. Despite an ambundance of prescribed sleeping meds, I was wired for days on end , eventually crashing for 18-24 hours and missing important appointments and dates. No therapist seemed to understand my issue. Not one ever met anybody who came off of it. Who knew not taking substances would make you appear very much as a person who took substances all the time. Thanks for sharing your experiences, by the looks of some, some people did not struggle as much. Maybe my wiring was screwed at the time. I did a lot of damage but eventually came around again.

I'm pretty over it at this point so I'm being patient. Because I know what it could be. I'm just going to take a crumb here and there when I can't take it anymore "to function" so long until my body adjusts to everything. I do believe that's the way to do it. I also think just not taking it for a few days just to see how potent the drug is for your mentality is good too. It's a shame to say a lot of people will be on it for the rest of their lives. I won't. I appreciated the mind clarity I got from being off it. It really all boils down to your body being dependent.

This is one of the better videos I have seen. And this is exactly how it is. You can get down to a quarter of an 8 mg tablet a day and you can still be okay and feel fine. But you start trying to go lower than that and that's when you start feeling some effects. I think the key is to get down to that 2 mg mark and start doing less and less and then start implementing days where you skip days. Put yourself into a little discomfort but not complete withdrawal. You have to get to that point to where you can still function but you feel a little bit bad. I think if you pair this with exercise and a good diet that it will allow you to work out and help with your sleep and natural endorphin production. I was able to get about 6 years ago. And that's how I was able to do it. I would not take anything until I absolutely couldn't stand it and then I would take a sliver. I got down to the point to where I could take a couple crumbs and it would level me off. Then I started skipping days and then I started getting three or four days go by where I was pretty much taking nothing and I knew I could do it at that point. Unfortunately an addicts mindset they get scared and my doctor appointment was coming up and I knew if I didn't go back then this would truly be it. If I could only rewind time back to that day there's no telling how much better my life may be today. I'm going to try to give soon and get off but unfortunately I've been on it well over a decade and I think I'm going to struggle physically. It doesn't bother me too bad mentally as far as cravings. I just can't stand being sick and feeling bad while trying to work a job.

He alway seemed to have an excuse to keep me on. Idk why? So I started to lower my dose and saving what i didn't use until I had two full bottles. After i had medication built up I decided not to go to my appointment and began taking myself down slowly. I got down to a literal crumb and still had withdrawal for about two week's. No sleep, cold sweats, and body aches. I just pushed through it. It's been over a year now and i feel great. The one thing I have noticed is weight gain. I hate this part.

Could it be that doctors prescribe ridiculously high doses, not only during induction, but also during the maintenance stage?

    • @Itried20takennames
      @Itried20takennames 8 месяцев назад +1

No. The doses are based off of what worked best in studies, and is called standard of care. And docs don’t get a dime extra if you are on a higher dose, or a lower dose or if you never bothered to fill the prescription….they get paid a flat fee unrelated to dose or prescriptions.
If you fill a prescription - that money goes to the pharmacy only, not the doc. And they have no need to maintain patients…plenty of those naturally, and many addiction docs have wait times due to high demand.
The lowest dose that works is the “best” dose, but the reality is that many need a higher dose for it to have an effect.
It’s not a conspiracy, it’s just very difficult biochemically, and a hard process.

I took 4 to 5 hot showers a day at the beginning. I know I still have a long way to go. I actually quit smoking. As the taste of a cigarette was repulsive. During withdrawal. All I really want to do Wright now is sleep. For a good 10 hours. And not have nightmares. Oh man this crap is so brutal to get off of. Day 17 its certainly better than day 6. My sinuses are still screwed up. Anxious alot through out the day. Still sneezing aolt. Still not sleeping wright. This is looking like its goinv to take months to get feeling normsl again. Now I may have taken at least a little every day for the last week, and I feel either withdrawls again, or just the adjustment from something to nothing. Suboxone gives me incredible energy and works as an anti-depresdant, but I didn't realize until I stopped how much emotion had been stifled. What the hell do I do now? I got addicted to Suboxone within 2 weeks. I've been on it for 2 years. I went to jail for 270 days. First county, they gave me 16 mg. (What I was prescribed) then, when the home county came to get me, they laughed when I said can I have my sandwiches? (Subs) and gave me ibuprofen. They did give me my mirtazapine and symblalta. Which... Kind of helped. I felt crappy for 2 weeks then kind of just ate honey buns the next three months. Then I got out, to my entire script full in my belongings. Needless to say. Back on it. Legally. But I can't even imagine coming off of it. I didn't have any for about 4 days and boy, did my life get extraordinarily rough. I wasn't yet withdrawling physically. I had absokutely no energy, I was forgetting stuff. It was bad. Then I got the txt. Your rx is ready. Do you know my heart dropped. It's just another addiction. My advice to anyone, check yourself Into a phsyc ward or get arrested. That's how you can get off. And it's going to suck. It didn't really hurt that bad in jail? I guess because I KNEW I couldn't get it. But there was a pregnant girl in there. And she got them guess who I tried to be best friends with. This drug is an opiate. Idc about the agnostic. It's lik #4 on the strongest opiates list. Legal dope. I wish I never found it. Although, better than methadone. That was just extremely extremely extremely heart wrenching.

Incorrect. Suboxone has Nalaxone in it which is inactive. It’s only activated if you shoot up the suboxone. Naltrexone is an opioid antagonist. Buprenorphine is an opioid and the main ingredient in Suboxone. Naltrexone helps push the Buprenorphine off the receptors allowing you to detox faster.

I felt that it was easier to just go off methadone rather than Suboxone but Im not exactly sure.

Is there any reason I should stop taking Suboxone? It’s been a miracle for the last 5 years, going beyond addiction treatment it seems to work as a sort of anti-depressant. Night and day difference compared to my life before.
Btw, I detoxed at the Coleman Institute about 7 years ago for regular opiates, it was a fantastic facility. Was clean about 6 months, should have taken Naloxone daily but it was too easy to skip.

I’m 68 years old and was on opioids for pain from misdiagnosed Lyme disease. I quit opiates 4 years ago and was on suboxone. Never felt great on it. Tapered very slowly. I was down to 1/2 film of lowest dose and stopped 9 months later. This is day 48 off suboxone and still diarrhea, extreme fatigue and weakness walking. Maybe it’s my age, length of time originally on opiates. Not sure. Weird symptoms. Eyes burning, loud tinnitus, numbness bottom both feet, abnormal movement of my toes involuntary. I’m hoping when I reach the 2 month mark I’ll notice some improvement. Very hard to be active when so weak. I’m hydrating. Hopefully a light at end of this tunnel!!!

They make a long-acting injection form of the med called Sublocade, and alot of people have great success quitting from one 100mg injection. You should ask your doctor about it. It sounds like you stopped taking Suboxone at a dosage of 1mg, which doesn't seem like alot, but is waaay too much to jump from.

I’ll tell you coming off of subs KILLS my endorphins. It’s like trying to suddenly carry a 400 pound body when you are usually a little over 100.
The restlessness sucks. I already am as depressed as a person can get normally so that seems about the same. It makes me have sneezing fits coming off it too. I just went thru it and beat it 4 months ago. Then the devil brought me more. I can’t keep doing this to myself. The cravings are so strong. All I’d have to do is use my phone.
I’m not afraid of change. I wasn’t happy on it so why keep messing with it. If I stay strong I’ll never have to go thru it again!
I learned my lesson from methadone too. I was on it for almost 3 years. THAT withdrawal is INHUMANE! Enough so that I’m scared to ever mess with it again. (I actually learned from how awful it was. Usually I tend to think the immediate benefit out weighs the detox and methadone feels fantastic but it proportionally awful to come down from)
I wish all of you luck, success, and happy withdrawals.

I wanted to get off prescribed OxyContin. Withdrawal was so awful, I requested and received Suboxone. I was sober for many years when I got addicted to pain killers and I was committed to getting clean. And I realized Suboxone was still part of the problem. So I took much less than doctor prescribed. And immediately started tapering the dosage. As this video points out, tapering does not really help withdrawing from Suboxone. A teeny tiny bit vs none brings on prolonged withdrawal symptoms. And it takes 2-6 months before anything resembling feeling normal happens.
