I drive an electric london taxi, it is very comfortable to drive compared to my old diesel, but the battery is a load of rubbish, as much use as chocolate teapot. If they actually get solid state batteries that work, anything with a lithium battery won't be worth a plugged nickel. Talk about environmental disaster.

I work for a Ford dealer in the U.S.A., Sales on both the Mach 3 and Lightening are extremely slow if not dead, there was a rush by a few at first that wanted these vehicles but that was over quick, the news of poor mileage on the truck killed the sales, 100 miles is not long range and makes that vehicle a local runner, Sales of used Ford EV's are almost dead too, we have no New EV's on the lot as that money is better spent on Trucks and SUV's that actually sell, the last Lightening sat around for 3 months or more, I'm not sure if it was retailed or dealer traded, We do sell used Tesla's but they are cheap cars picked up at Auction.

EVs as large cars just don't make sense. Someone was complaining about Suzuki going all EV soon, but i think the small cars that Suzuki sell are perfect for an EV drivetrain. Of course i wouldn't go only EV if i was Suzuki, but that's what they want to do.
yes that would have to rate as the dumbest decision of the year ...here in NZ suzuki swifts (petrol) are everywhere - but if they were ev, the sales would dry up instantly unless they were so cheap people could afford have have one and accept it's worthelss second hand...and then sales wouldn't be that great as many are struggling just with everyday bills and don't have 20k to spend on a car (or less ) if they were a bit cheaper. A new petrol Swift was circa 20K /25k a few years ago.
IMHO, the range of any EV is done with nothing in use but the motors, it's like they used to tape up any gaps on ICE vehicles years ago and strip out everything but the drivers seat to get the maximum mileage from the vehicles but when people bought them expecting them to do 40+MPG around town they only got low 30's and high 50's on a combined motorway and town run. There doing with EV's, that's if anyone but a business user wants one, what they used to do with ICE vehicles until they were told to put the real world mileages of the vehicle with all the seats and everything in them.
In NJ local police were showcasing the Mach-E as a patrol car. So I got talking to the driver who was very enthusiastic, however she did mention that theres no chance they would use it for chases due to battery damage concerns.. Nor even have it patrolling as they would have to end shift early to recharge it. Instead, it idles around the city center of the township as a beacon of progress.
Geoff, on the electric vs gas issue: my 72 Chevy pickup suffered a complete electrical failure. Battery is fine, but nothing works, which also doesn't allow the gas power to work either. So this just proves that gas power is more reliable than electric.
The real reason will be an ‘either/or’ situation. Either; The ev wet belts are failing on the prototypes. 🤣 Or; They’ve realised that no one wants a huge ev with a 37 mile range. 🤭
I had my car in service at my local Ford Dealer (UK) today and had a quick look in the showroom. There was only one new Ford, they seem to do more business selling second-hand cars of all makes. They used to sell loads of Focuses and Fiestas before Ford discontinued them. The Puma/Kuga that replaced them don't seem to be anywhere near so popular, never mind the electric versions. I think Ford have simply lost the plot.
If I was the boss at Ford I would have saved all though losses because I wouldn't have built EVs in the first place, the writing was clearly on the wall.
Until batteries have 500 wh/kg a useful pickup will be unviable. Have just been to Cornwall with the Hilux and big caravan. From Birmingham. Wouldn't it be great if I had a Cybertruck and stopped 4 times for juice. Probably have to unhitch for an hour or more every time.
Ford Good idea / Bad idea. Ford: bring back the Ford Capri.... also Ford: bring back the Ford Capri as an SUV EV. And they wonder why they are losing sales?
As an aside -on my local supermarket car-park, this morning, I couldn't fail to see a fluorescent yellow Porsche Taycan - parked all on it's own in a far corner! I wonder why it was there? 🙂 - - Still, the unfortunate owner couldn't fail to see where it was!
I don’t quite understand Ford because I believe the Chinese cars have or are soon to be subject to a 100% import tariff. That doubles their price and are Ford seriously claiming that they can’t compete against cars that have their net free-on-board prices doubled by import taxes for sales in the USA?
Geoff we never had huge fog 😢😢polluted cities from cars. It was bad coal being burnt in the 50’s that took a lot of people out as they had trouble breathing. Also my 60 year old cars petrol Slant 6 does 22 miles to the gallon. It also puts out very little emissions cause it’s funny how people forget it was the leaded fuel that was dangerous and made the hole in the ozone layer so that now it’s gone from our fuel and hairsprayers why they looking at getting rid of an actual gas which carbon is a gas and it’s what we are so does net zero mean they want us gone as well.
We subsidize the hell out of VW, Ford, etc, to build battery plants in Canada. Total hypocrisy to put 100% duty on Chinese cars, except to protect domestic makers.

Not just US EV is so expensive, and the most problem that there's not many charging stations in US. Gas automobile is also in deep problem because many Americans don't have enough money for food, so expensive US car is out of American Dream. China build BYD in Mexico, but not make for US.

Th Volvo XC70, V70 D5 from 2003-04 are excellent, fantastic, ideal family cars unless living in tight locations, like Bath or the valleys, in which case, you can't beat a diesel E-Class estate. My preference would be either an E320 or the E270, E280, E350 or E250 CDIs. Alternatively, consider a C200 Kompressor estate and you are set for motoring for life. Of course, get an automatic one, unless you are desperate for a manual in the C-Class. If you are feeling youthful, get a twenty year old six cylinder 5 series automatic diesel estate. If you hate Volvos and proper German premium but don't mind the high roadtax, get an A6-based Allroad Audi or a SAAB 9-5 estate, which actually has a frugal but powerful Turbo-charged variant. There was no need to move away from producing these cars, we would all be better off if they just kept making them as they were. Car manufacturing only degraded since.
Land rover stopped making practical 4x4 in the 80's when the Japanese pick-ups started outselling them, ,they gave up completely where the stopped making the classic defender, ALWAYS GET A LAND CRUISER
Hi Geoff why are none of the car manufacturers making a diesel hybrid? Making a petrol hybrid increases power and fuel economy and reduces the emissions, I think that would make diesels even better. Why is my 5 year old Citroen diesel ok with ULEZ and every new hybrid that I have looked at to replace it not ?
My brother in law, a car interior designer, and his family lived near Holland Michegan for 12 years. He is one of a rare few who still can design without a pc programme. Often a programme that says a concept will work when in practise it does not. Human experience can never be completely synthesised, as Elon has found with driverless cars. Would be nice to sleep through the 300 miles to Cornwall 😀 as the driver.
I can't draw but had a great idea for a cartoon. People all cycling around and one stopped talking to his neighbour who is pointing out where the car used to be parked before the ev mandate came in.
I went grocery shopping here in Chattanooga, Tennessee and I parked my 2020 F-150 5.0 liter Coyote V8 next to the first F-150 Lightning truck I have ever seen in the wild. I looked it over then went on with my shopping. I returned to my vehicle to find that the EV Ford was still there. I decided to wait for a few minutes as I wanted to check out what sort of person bought such a stupid vehicle. It was 37 C so after ten minutes I had to leave so nothing frozen melted. I have seen a couple of Rivian trucks around my part of town and just Monday I saw my first Tesla Cyber Truck. What an ugly rolling POS!
Why don’t car manufacturers bring to us small, lightweight EV’s that have style and beauty? I’m thinking of the Honda concept sports car EV….wow! And the Peugeot 504 EV coupe….brilliant. I would buy either just to look at them never mind drive them.
There have been diesel/electric trains for decades. I understand that a diesel motor charges batteries to power the locomotive. Why not gave a diesel or petrol/electric vehicle, similar to the GM Bolt?
I don't believe batteries are involved in a diesel-electric locomotive. The diesel engine drives a generator which in turn drives traction motors on each axle. This is easier to control than multiple mechanical gearboxes with many speeds. Apparently diesel hydraulic locomotives were a better technical option (diesel drives a pump which drives hydraulic "motors" on each axle, not unlike the torque converter in an automatic gearbox). Diesel electric won out from some political decision. (I used to share an office with an avid trainspotter.)

@@ImLivinSD Getting paid probably, the regime pays lots of Utoobers to push ideas.
@@ImLivinSD Paid probably they pay lots of channels to push their age ndas
@@rocketmunkey1 The collapse of the ice vehicle is absolutely inevitable. Just like the cd and vhs. Better ev technology will replace ice cars. It’s happening in China first (plus Norway). In a few years time you’ll look back and see how ridiculous your comment was.
@@dominicgoodwin1147 LMAO yeah because toxic spontaneously combusting lithium, is so much more superior to the natural hydrogen, oxygen, energy / life cycle, perhaps you should have studied science instead of watching adverts on the box,
The biggest problem with EV's is that the currently available battery technology is neither safe, nor effective.
Bit like the jibajab 😂
Both by design …
I have a few reps visiting me, they have all switched to hybrids (mostly BMW 330e). All of the reps are getting worse fuel economy as no one charges them up at home !
Our company switched all the engineers cars to plug ins so that the engineers got the benefit in kind savings and the company gets the tax relief. Only problem is that the 45 - 50 mpg of their diesel Mondeo estates is now around 30 mpg as nobody plugs them in to charge as the 30 mile range is no use to a driver doing 40,000 miles a year.
Interesting 🤔
I remember a Clarkson/Hammond/May Top Gear when they put a Prius on track and drove it flat out. They followed it in a Beemer M3 which did rather better on fuel consumption...
When you dog up rainforests for lithium so you can eventually throw the old batteries into the sea...
Nah you is just a science denier, carbon is killin the trees n s*** 😉
Is lithium sourced from under rainforests? Precious little rainforests have lithium rich salt flats as far as I am aware. Never let facts get in your way.

PX welcome for pre '64 cars....😅
A fella was trying to charge his £100,000 BMW XM at a Tesla supercharger yesterday and it would not recognise the charger - i tried to help the guy out but no good. He had 57 miles left but had to get from Thurrock Lakeside to Rochester - No sure if he got home.
You could buy a diesel X5 for a few grand 😂
EVs as large cars just don't make sense.
Someone was complaining about Suzuki going all EV soon, but i think the small cars that Suzuki sell are perfect for an EV drivetrain. Of course i wouldn't go only EV if i was Suzuki, but that's what they want to do.
Small EVs are much better, as they'll be more of them around to burn things down.
Suzuki make brilliant little cars, they should stay with what they know, Going EV would be automotive suicide.
yes that would have to rate as the dumbest decision of the year ...here in NZ suzuki swifts (petrol) are everywhere - but if they were ev, the sales would dry up instantly unless they were so cheap people could afford have have one and accept it's worthelss second hand...and then sales wouldn't be that great as many are struggling just with everyday bills and don't have 20k to spend on a car (or less ) if they were a bit cheaper. A new petrol Swift was circa 20K /25k a few years ago.
Watched a video the other day with an old photographer who ran an old Toyota Landcruiser. It had done 500,000 miles.
A small victory
I can't wait for someone to say that bikes aren't really that "clean" because you breathe out more CO2 when cycling.
And rear end emissions also bad for the environment
Ford should have continued their support of the Fiesta, Focus and Mondeo!!!!
You were right first time, Land Rover would still be a better option 😀
In NJ local police were showcasing the Mach-E as a patrol car. So I got talking to the driver who was very enthusiastic, however she did mention that theres no chance they would use it for chases due to battery damage concerns.. Nor even have it patrolling as they would have to end shift early to recharge it. Instead, it idles around the city center of the township as a beacon of progress.
Greenwashing at its finest. At the taxpayers expense of course.
Geoff, on the electric vs gas issue: my 72 Chevy pickup suffered a complete electrical failure. Battery is fine, but nothing works, which also doesn't allow the gas power to work either. So this just proves that gas power is more reliable than electric.
Yes, the modern downsized petrol engines are cleaner than ever. But they are as well more unreliable than ever.
The real reason will be an ‘either/or’ situation.
Either;
The ev wet belts are failing on the prototypes. 🤣
Or;
They’ve realised that no one wants a huge ev with a 37 mile range.
They can stick their EVs where the sun doesn't shine.
As I was listening Geoff I found myself paying close attention to the treeline, you know just in case, black cats and all that.. ))
I always park away from other cars because do many whack their doors into my car. EVs are just another reason.
YES it is good news !
The life saving good carbon internal combustion engine!
Carbon the gas of life!!! This should be a slogan!
I don’t quite understand Ford because I believe the Chinese cars have or are soon to be subject to a 100% import tariff. That doubles their price and are Ford seriously claiming that they can’t compete against cars that have their net free-on-board prices doubled by import taxes for sales in the USA?
They have a saying in Australia: "If you want to drive into the outback, buy a Land Rover; if you want to come out again, buy a Land Cruiser".
Or if you want a slight jacked up car a old Volvo XC70 is ideal
We subsidize the hell out of VW, Ford, etc, to build battery plants in Canada. Total hypocrisy to put 100% duty on Chinese cars, except to protect domestic makers.
Under Labour we will get absolutely no sensible policies on any subject. All their policies will be ruinous.
Of course because they want to ruin the country. In fact ALL the parties do.
THIS is good news. . . . . . for the other EV makers
Some Condo associations are looking at preventing EV's from parking in the basement parking lot.
Good. Hope they scrap that awful new Capri.
They should make a fun car like the old Capri. If they fixed the dodgy handling, it could be even better than the original.
Guess what? LG is making the new Mustang!... What a disgraceful joke.
This is what happens when Dumb,, No Common Sense whatsoever Politicians tell Businesses what to Do .. That Buiness will go Bankrupt . 9 times out of 10.
There’s a couple of absolutely mint older Land Cruisers local to me, they must have taken your advice Geoff!
Not just US EV is so expensive, and the most problem that there's not many charging stations in US. Gas automobile is also in deep problem because many Americans don't have enough money for food, so expensive US car is out of American Dream.
China build BYD in Mexico, but not make for US.
Ford should forget Hybrid versions as well. Battery still needs Lithium or whatever , to run it . What's wrong with Diesel or Petrol ( GAS )
Florida here - I don't even see F150 Lightnings. Maybe one or two since they were foisted upon the market by the communists. How'd you like the vid of the Rivian factory fire?
I had a Mitzi Pajero for 11 years...always reliable...great workhorse.. Best Buy it was!... always saw Land Rovers broken on very offended hard shoulders everywhere up and down the UK... and before any Landry fanatics chime in...yes.. I did own a P38 vogue SE... something broke on it every month.... bit like a Karen!...
P.S.... all the most reliable vehicles I've ever owned were all Japanese...!
Now that's a type of cancel culture I can get behind.
What a clear picture Geoff, have you got a new camera?
Yep, he can afford it with all the clickbait revenue y’all give him!
I've had a good look at that field. It doesn't look like there's anyone making anything there..
How many new power stations have been built ?
Rolling blackouts incoming ?
Does anyone think it's weird that electric cars don't come with solar panels built in? 🤔
No.
Ya, I do, alas I can understand it's just another vector for a Fire.
Or dynos on the wheels to give charge whioe driving and have infinate range
I can't draw but had a great idea for a cartoon. People all cycling around and one stopped talking to his neighbour who is pointing out where the car used to be parked before the ev mandate came in.
Maybe they could get into to tulip bulbs instead ?
2:03 I believe "Xiaomi" is pronounced Sha-Oh Me.
Ford are due a small EV that’s the Fiesta/EcoSport successor … but it will still be £25k plus so it’s DOA
Yes
Is this the all electric SUV that was going to take over the World.
It was going to set the world on fire but not in the way they meant.
Hilarious! One of the most iconic car makers on the way to oblivion and @GeoffSellsOpinions is cheering. You can’t make this shit up…
Make it make sense nothing makes sense!
Thank goodness they've cancelled the new EV. I suppose the new Capri, which isn't one for starters, could be the last EV we ever get from Ford.
So governments levy tariffs on imports and then charge purchase tax on top of that. Brilliant way of ripping the punters off!
Polluting petrol engine compared to random exploding battery flame thrower . . . sounds about right
I went grocery shopping here in Chattanooga, Tennessee and I parked my 2020 F-150 5.0 liter Coyote V8 next to the first F-150 Lightning truck I have ever seen in the wild.
Electric cars are all the rage now but not everyone want to purchase. Battery 🔋 powered cars 😂😂😂😂
Hey Geoff euro 6 lorries are really clean and also less mpg , more diesel to be cleaner ? Don’t ask me 🤯
Why don’t car manufacturers bring to us small, lightweight EV’s that have style and beauty?
