Hi Matt, having looked in detail at three out of the four SUVs (no experience with the Volvo) I can second you ranking Mercedes - Audi -BMW. One area you did not cover, but which is important is the charging speed. The Mercedes comes with 11kW AC charging as standard, which means that you can charge back to about 100% when you go 2 hours shopping or do a 2 hour customer visit. WLTP range 119-130km depending on options. You can even upgrade to 50kW DC charging, which turns the GLC to an ALMOST electrical car which is a good option in countries where the charging infrastructure is not well developed (my impression was that this applies e.g. to the UK, but also many parts of Southern or Eastern Europe). Admittedly, the car does not make sense in the Nordics, Benelux, Germany etc. where the range extending ICE is simply not needed anymore. The Audi charges with 7.4 kW AC, but does not have a fast charging option. WLTP range 56-62km depending on options. Admittedly this was still acceptable back when the X3 was introduced, it is anachronistic by today's standards.
Like I have said in the XC60 review... Overall, I would take a GLC but if we are talking about safety, I would take the XC60 but for performance an Audi SQ5 is good value for money. And the BMW, for the convenience. This is my opinion though.
The X3 M40i is what I would take for performance because it is so amazingly fast. Also the SQ5 is slower than the Volvo in this video which is probably the one I’d have it has proved it has timeless design and I think it just embodies this class of car perfectly
Volvo is not at the top of safety anymore. They only just got into top 20 last year in EURONCAP while Tesla got 1st and 2nd place in front of a Mercedes.
@@Arpedk I think it’s crazy that Tesla got first and second when you look at a lot of their crashes in the real world where the cars have been splitting in half and catching fire. The only reason they seem to score so much higher than competitors is that they are next to impossible to roll since the batteries are so low. Also the amount of videos I have seen on Instagram of Volvo crash tests vs all the German brands I would much rather be in one than the Mercedes bmw and Audi equivalent. When they hit the barriers all of the competition stop dead often getting air and bouncing backwards. The Volvos plough straight on Massively reducing the forces that the occupants go through. Sadly a cars safety rating is not based solely on how well it performs in an impact anymore and on impacts Volvos still handle them the best
@lbnewell lol, so few cases of that and still maybe only 1 confirmed battery fire of a Model 3 or Y. Also EuroNCAP doesn't use rollover for their scores. Don't believe everything you see in the news. Tesla and Elon generates insane amounts of clicks so the news will use that to earn money not to provide you with actual information. Crashtests doesn't lie, media do.
Back to back tests are so much better than individual reviews IMO - easier for Mat to make direct comparisons and better for consumers picking a new car. Mat's cynicism about PHEVs is misplaced though, I live in London and all the PHEVs near me seem to be plugged in.
I'd consider the 2023 BMW X1 as from a tech perspective e.g. I'd argue it's more of a competitor to the GLC and rest than the current X3. It also grew in all dimensions
It would not be superfluous to note that the Volvo battery is located in the central tunnel between the front passengers and has an independent all-wheel drive system. The gasoline engine drives only the front wheels, while the rear wheels are connected only to the electric motor. This has both its pros and cons. But this is a significant difference from other cars in which the electric motor is located along with the gearbox.

I was test-driving all of them + RR Evoque and LR Discovery Sport. Volvo is way better than other cars. It has electric range of 77km + the fuel tank of 71 litres, which gives you a real 900+km of the range on te highway. Non of the other cars will do it. Also, speaking about the basic version, Volvo has much better spec. Google entertainment maybe is not so good, and no physical buttons unfortunately, but Google system on Volvo works much faster than on the other cars. I love Matt's reviews, but this one was not objective at all. Looks like only Matt's personal preferences to the brands were taken into account. @@j800q Infotainment system on Volvo works great and to my opinion is one of the best on the market, because it is nothing more, than a nice and fast Android Tablet. Actually don't need to use anymore Car Play at all. CleanZone feature is extremely nice for keeping the air fresh. Seats are the most comfortable of these 4 cars. Also, boot space is the largest one. Luxury cars are the ones, that give us a comfort ride for a long trip. Driving 30miles distance is not giving any tireness. Actually, luxurity of the cars is defined by the comfort - Volvo is 1st here, performance - Volvo is 1st here, Equipment - the same for all cars, amenities - I would give to Audi Q5 here. The only thing, that might be not so well is a status, because of not German car. I was awaiting for this Mercedes GLC 300e for a year, after it was announced. And I was very disappointed by its quality and comfort. I had 2 Mercedeses before (C class and E class) and unfortunately, they are losing their luxurity. BMW X3 was not so comfortable to drive as other cars, especially on the bumps. Yes, more fun. But nobody is buying such cars for fun, isn't it? Perhaps, if I would buy an SUV for fun - I would go with LR Defender P400e 110.
It would be interesting to see what breaks down first in the Audi. The DSG or the 2.0 TSI? As a german who worked for Mercedes and VW and never liked BMW I would go for the Volvo. My V70 got now 400.000km and runs like new. Best car I ever had.
It's amazing how much technology has evolved over the past generation. Not the price though, they are very expensive, but I guess technology doesn't come cheap.
Evolved? Mate a dual clutch gearbox is from a 1970s tractor, tractors are on 6 clutch 50+speed power shift gearboxes nowadays.. and the only other thing that's changed is tyre tech has got better to allow for a much faster 60ft. The rest of the tech is junk, laggy screens instead of interior and they are becoming less aerodynamic 😂 I mean a Vauxhall Carlton from 30yr ago has lower drag Co-eff. Suspension wise they run cars stiffer now with diabolically bad dampening and rebound that confuses them over bumps, cambers & potholes. Not really sure where the hike in Tech is when motorbikes have 6 axis systems that can even prevent highsides they and have much faster electronic polling so can react a lot faster and speed up or slow down the engine way way faster as there's no internal weight in the engine. These current car engines as still lethargic as it gets on rpm change so you won't break any handling or roadholding records while the car is weight transitioning all over the place to compensate for the lazy engines. Porsche have done probably the best job as they kept the smaller 6 block and lightened it up internally so it was more responsive, the results paid off but they are a long long way from being at motorcycle engine tech levels. Lorries have better engine and gearbox tech than cars by several decades so please 🙏 don't over hype these disposable junk heaps they need to sort the build quality out for a start, they fall apart in months modern cars.

Hello, I purchased a GLC 400e with the AMG Premium package on January 26, 2023. After two months, I experienced issues with the transmission controllers. In fact, the gearbox repeatedly failed at high speeds, especially above 160 kilometers per hour, causing significant stress and concern for my own safety and that of my family while driving on the highway. This serious risk of an accident has put me and my family in danger. After four attempts to diagnose the problem by Mercedes, starting from June 21, my vehicle has been at the Mercedes service center in Aschaffenburg, Germany. However, unfortunately, they do not have the necessary parts for the repair, and I am forced to wait until July 31. Undoubtedly, this lengthy delay has left me extremely dissatisfied and angry with Mercedes. Until today, despite sending multiple emails to Mercedes and filling out their form, they have not made any contact or taken any actions to address my concerns and seek my satisfaction.

You don't need fast charging for these bro. They self charge as well and the audi is 2 hours at 7kw🤦♂️
I’ve been using my xc90 PHEV for couple of years and still love it.
Love you, Mat Watson, been watching since 3million subs from Ghana.
BMW X3 and Volvo XC60 😍❣️
What a in-depth review! No one else compares to Matt for the details.
Those details are as insane as ever.
Volvo and genesis are leading no Germans in top 20
Back to back tests are so much better than individual reviews IMO - easier for Mat to make direct comparisons and better for consumers picking a new car. Mat's cynicism about PHEVs is misplaced though, I live in London and all the PHEVs near me seem to be plugged in.
🤣🤣🤣🤦♂️ well done for a dumb comment
Enjoy Watching You All The Way From South Africa 🇿🇦
I'm literally choosing which one to buy between these 4, great timing 👍
I'd consider the 2023 BMW X1 as from a tech perspective e.g. I'd argue it's more of a competitor to the GLC and rest than the current X3. It also grew in all dimensions
sad
@@theoteddy9665 jealousy is strong feeling my friend
I recommend the glc, it will age nicely and last long in terms of design

It would not be superfluous to note that the Volvo battery is located in the central tunnel between the front passengers and has an independent all-wheel drive system. The gasoline engine drives only the front wheels, while the rear wheels are connected only to the electric motor. This has both its pros and cons. But this is a significant difference from other cars in which the electric motor is located along with the gearbox.
It's terrible. Means when it runs out it's only front wheel drive
I was waiting for this one!! Have x3 but thinking to change, thank you!!
Surprised the Volvo didn’t rank higher. It’s an unbelievably nice car.
Для меня Volvo на 1 месте... XC 60 the best
I'll take the Q5
Me too.
I'll take the glc and xc60
I'd take volvo over all of them easily

Kaun si volvo.....abe chutiyon....chalo koi nahi ..😂😂😂😂
I have driven all of them and I agree the Merc is the best. So much so one is on order!!!
Stuck between the GlC and Q5 they are both such great cars I’d tie them for first place
At least here in Germany, the old Q5 as featured in this video is no longer available for ordering. A new one will be coming soon.
To think that the XC60 is as fast as an 2002 RS6 is crazy. Would certainly feel flabbergasted when driving the RS6 and having a XC60 accelerate as fast as me.
Because your rs6 is 21 years old bro 😂
honestly it’s prob faster
@@charles_.l Thankfully not, espacially after 140 the Volvo dies and after 180 it stops. Imagine driving from Hamburg to Salzburg and not being able to go faster than 180...

Our local Mercedes dealer tried to scam us out of a $1,000 lost key when we bought a used car from them. Lied to our face, and then wanted to argue about it. We walked away, and bought a Volvo XC60 B5 Ultimate with the HUD. Very happy with it.
Not for long you're not.
The b5 is terrible
. Volvo makes a solid reliable car.
I would choose the Volvo X40 I just prefer the looks and the practicality of that car 👍🏻
The Volvo XC40 wasn't in this test so I'm guessing you meant XC60?
As an Audi Owner i'd probably go with the Audi simply because of 10+ Years of Great Experience both regarding Reliability and Service.
Also did you Guys film that near a Swamp? So many Insects, not that i mind! Was fun to see if Matt will be bothered by them or not haha

Mercedes😍 then the Audi is my 2nd choice
3:45 the most annoying part of the Mercedes interior is the digital display. Not the display and functionalities itself, but how that tablet is being mounted there. It looks like they designed it without it and then just mounted on top. It doesn't quite feel integrated there
I'll pick the Volvo! 😊

Was choosing between all these and leaning towards Q5, but after test driving all of them bought Audi A4 Allroad.
Also, for Google system on Volvo, you can bind shortcuts, instead of navigating through out the system.
My Camper (3,5 tons, 6,4m long) also has over 900km range (more like 1000), I don't get whats so special about it.
@@E620SE my main point was that only Volvo can make 900+ range among those 4 cars. And for those people, who travel for long distance - it makes a big deal.
@@E620SE my main point was that only Volvo can make 900+ range among those 4 cars. And for those people, who travel for long distance - it makes a big deal.
@@cinemastratvrange is not everything in this segment though, this is the “luxury crossover” segment. The interior comfort is a big factor in this case. If you wanted the most range you could choose different cars. Driving experience, comfort, looks and usability of the infotainment are all important.
Good review Matt and I agree, the GLC for me please due to it's electric range and quality feel, just wish the exhausts were real !
I’m glad with my decision with the Q5, all are great options though. I’ve always been a BMW guy but I made the switch to Audi this year
Merc better than both
None of the best, just comes down to brand preference at this point.
As someone who drives Q5
All I can say is very good Car drives smooth and good on Gas
It would be interesting to see what breaks down first in the Audi. The DSG or the 2.0 TSI?
As a german who worked for Mercedes and VW and never liked BMW I would go for the Volvo. My V70 got now 400.000km and runs like new. Best car I ever had.
lol, if you'd worked for VW, you would know that Audi doesn't use DSG and TSI, they have S-tronic and TFSI
@@winfle S- Tronic and TFSI are only the Audi names for DSG and TSI.
VOLVO XC60❤
It's amazing how much technology has evolved over the past generation. Not the price though, they are very expensive, but I guess technology doesn't come cheap.
Technologies always costed thousand of dollars for that.
@@bigduphusaj162 you forgot about abs-brakes, led-headlights, direct injection, bio-fuel engines and many other things :D and besides, there are other cars in this world than suv:s regarding drag: the mercedes eqs is a good example :)
I remember how just recently Mercedes had electric motor added to its combustion cars only nominally, for taxes/fees benefits. They only added 20 horse powers, which was laughable. And now they are making real hybrids.
@@wga4139 but then again, those features nowadays comes at a price
That's the politically correct choice but from objective data, the audi is quieter, more dynamic, comfortable and also sporty. The only thing letting down is the range. Otherwise it's superior on all counts and the cheapest overall on price. Thanks for a brilliant video.
Last
Anyways....i think i would go for the Audi.

Nice premium family suvs. I like them all and some have better specification in that, others have better in another thing. Overall I would choose by this order of preference:
1. MERCEDES
2. AUDI
3. VOLVO
4. BMW
My Choice will be Volvo > X3 > Merc > Audi
XC60 looks ultra classy and it's a great car.
We knew that the winner will be the GLC way before starting the video 🙃
Yes he is mercedes boy
Because mercedes is the best
Mercedes makes better all round cars
Ugly Mercedes without exhaust, only Audi is worse in this comparison
Because it is the newest model - the others (or some of them) will at least equal the Merc once the new models arrive - just comes down to when you want to change your car..
Hello,
I purchased a GLC 400e with the AMG Premium package on January 26, 2023.
Volvo for life! :)) Such a good car, i rather chose XC60 than the other german "hey im cool bc im driving bmw" cars :D
I think you really understated the performance difference.
The Volvo is proper fast compared to significantly sportier vehicles, has great ev range, and is driveable in ev only mode. Others are just boring to drive in EV.
I don't think it's much of a contest for anyone who wants a smooth, powerful, fun, roomy suv. Volvo is the first choice. 😊

I'd chose the Volvo anytime. It's just sleek, and seat comfort is what really matters, especially on long trips. Interior is just beautifully blend together, and I prefer it over any of these cars.
Volovos safety is also unmatched. But then, I might be biased because I'm Volvo owner. 😅
You should probably do the Dyno test on them ❤
Do dyno test also on some of the exotics and sport bikes.
I still think the XC60 beats the others in terms of looks. The others are so shouty and pretentious with overstyled haunches, fenders, and grills.
