I’m getting into war hammer for the first time and it seems like so much fun. Thank you for this video, purchased a set of legionaries as my first team and this helped so much!
I built all specialists from this kit and was very happy to see 2 plasma pistols on the sprue, so I went ahead and built a chosen and a champion. It felt similar to the grey knights in the ability to maximize your options from one box
Mark of Khorne was amazing in my latest game of the new Soulshackle. Three armies free for all, and even though being hamburgered between Tomb World and Orcs I scored 2-3 VP almost every charge. Taking advantage of blocking doorways and breaching charges really paid off for a 3APL melee heavy Kill Team
Its a bit more shooty, but I've found having a Undivided leader and a Tzeentch icon bearer work really well together. Having access to free Volleys or Assault, OR free protective ploys gives a fair bit of flexibility. Throwing the damage bonus to the icon bearer's bolter makes Volleys really worth it along with your Heavy Bolter (also on tzeentch).
I do something similar for demo games, where I create a very simple team with a champ, standard, heavy bolter, and three with bolters. All with blades for eq, and suspensor on heavy bolter. From this I learned that undivided is much better than it looks.
Hey mate, really love the video and your channel. Fantastic stuff. I got a game in of Legionary vs Hand of the Archon with a mate tonight. I ran mark of Slaanesh on all my guys because I painted them as Emperor's Children. I actually think the Slaanesh mark gets a bad perspective, but the extra movement really adds up, and the amount of lethal access is nice for the extra crit damage ploy. I'm gonna keep playing them 100% Slaanesh and see how it goes. I do love your point about how they all act independently. I did a mix of "I am the Hero" and "Central Board Control" and it was incredibly fun and successful. Loved the idea you brought up about the spell of lethal 5+ going on the psyker himself; never would've thought that thanks!
Would make awesome red Corsairs or black legion. There are a few primaris chapters that are implied to be traitor descendent so you could used one of those as a base and uses their colours for weathering on the model 😮
I also decided to go with a full Rister of Legionaries, much in the way you suggested (though kind-of in reverse.) Currently getting them painted up. I'm intending to run them all as Undivided, so we'll see how that goes.
Legionaries vs. Intercession are the best for running demo games in my experience. Both teams are somewhat similar and easy to run. Legionaries you take Undivided for all six of them, and use either of the leaders, the icon, one or both of the gunners (or no gunners if your victim is inexperienced with minis) and take bolters with the knives and cursed bolts for equipment. Intercessors take sgt with melee and auto bolt rifle, gunner, and two each of assault and intercessor. And purity seals on the sgt and gunner and give one of the others an auspex. Intentionally not an optimum set of teams, but the most easy and yet still effective teams for the purposes of demo games. Loot mission usually, and secondary missions optional.
Yay my team most of my kill team career🤩❤️ and they have been absolute gold to me. In the 20 man league running over 4 months I am currently 5/1. And in the two tournaments I have entered with them I went 4/1 and 4/0. And I have also not lost a practice game with them for 5 months🤩 The two games after the nerf to nurgle I have also won, despite playing mono nurgle. I must say that I never ran the Ass. Champ, the butcher or the Icon Bearer. But I do run the Melta on ITD and the Missile Launcher on both open and ITD or the Reaper. I never use the shoot twice and rolling 6 dice for the Reaper is just so satisfying 🤣 I also often go without suspensor system. But instead use implacable so my heavy gunner can overwatch on turns he needs to move far. That leaves me with points for Grisly Trophy, Agression stimulant and Tainted Rounds or switch one of them for 2xMalefic Blade or Malign Scripture. I try to spread the things around and don’t put it on anyone special. Depends on the board and the matchup. But I love that you talk about the balefire acolyte being good in combat. Because he is an absolute monster. Especially if you put aggression stimulant on him and his own let5+ brutal buff and then charge him in. Reroll and let5+ on a knife that does MW2 that will kill most operatives😜 Anyways I could go on for hours but it’s by far the most fun, customizable and killy team I have ever played with. So thank you John for more great content and for what you do to grow the community🙏🏽❤️
I would not be surprised if every chaos daemon faction got a dedicated team similar to Gellerpox Infected down the line Would really like for Tzeentch to get one that uses the Ephilim's Pandemonium minis + maybe a couple of screamers or flamers to fill the team out (Would be even better if you could pick these interchangeably)
You kinda skipped over the option for a rocket launcher for the Heavy Gunner? Think this could be a great alternative for ranged and a great counter for hordes in ITD with lethal 5+ on blast Frags. Thanks for the great guide.
You totally missed Undivided, which is better than it seems in the first place. I like to play undivided Aspiring Champion to be able to get double Shoot of double Fight for free (depending on the situation on the board), while my Icon Bearer provides for 4+invul (Tzeentch) or Implacable (Nurgle). Undivided Chaos blessing (a re-roll while 6") is also always super good, both in ranger or melee. Otherwise pretty solid review and indeed really cool Kill Team to play and to model (virtually unlimited number of Chaos warbands/legions to go for).
Probably Chosen, Psyker, Anointed, Shrivetalon, Plasma gunner and Heavy Bolter Gunner. Suspensor on bolter, -1 attack aura on Anointed then Krak grenade on shrive and blade on plasma
I'd love to know a more in depth analysis of the nurgle nerf. Personally now that the DR is min 3 I find the durability that nurgle gave is a lot less impactful. Tzeench is a bit more appealing now and likewise using the butcher and your leader both having 7 wound crits means that the Slaanesh ploy to increase crit is basically the same as the khorne plus you get the increased movement for long charges. I think there are a lot more viable options now but I'd love to know why you still think nurgle is hands down the best in more detail.
I bought the chaos lord with thunder hammer and plasma pistol to proxy for the leader which means that I was able to build the specialists/ all three heavy gunners and plasma and melter gunners

For my first ever KT I was thinking to make a shooty list the like ok: Undivided Champion (reroll 1 on plasma and free Bolters Shoot Twice + maul & Grisly Trophy to mess up with opponents melee rolls), Tzee Icon Bearer (free Tzee ploys & tainted rounds), Tzee Acolyte, Tzee Gunner (Melta), Tzee Hgunner (Hbolter & suspensor), shrivetalon (to take care of melee/objectives, tempted to make him Slaa for the extra move & the ploy to double down on messing with enemy APL, but more toward Tzee for the extra APL ploy to help with his skill) How does it sounds? I admit I have a lore bias for Tzeentch and I love shooting :P

I understand that nurgle is the best but I love playing a slanesh/tzeentch split. The amazing shooting to help the slannesh get in is so fun.
Its a bit more shooty, but I've found having a Undivided leader and a Tzeentch icon bearer work really well together. Thinking of Kitbashing some of my leftover assault intercessors into a legionary KillTeam, I'm liking this KillTeam.

Missile is alright but just struggles to compete even with blast on ITD
It works great against Gellerpox on open board, and i think would be pretty solid against any other mixed teams like Custodians.

Tzeentch and Slaanesh is a solid combo atm imo
I've been running this until I get a bespoke World Eaters Kill Team, all Khorne with Tzeentch Gunner/Heavy Gunner. How much am I gimping myself?

I used to do Tzeentch/Khorne but went back to Nurgle/Khorne. Tempted to do Tzeentch again due to all the AP guns everywhere atm
