i planted soft neck in zone 1 boarding zone 2 and worked
I recommand you that you save the biggest clove for planting not the smallest :) Evolution and stuff... I am sue that you will have even better harvest next year!
That’s true! Not sure what I was thinking but thank you for pointing that out.
Good for you for pushing your hardiness zone by planting varieties that are only supposed to do well in warm climates. I did the same thing living in a warm climate, zone 8a SC. and planted some hardneck varieties meant for colder climates and got to enjoy the scapes for 3-4 weeks.

Great video! Thank you. I'm so excited to plant lots of garlic this Fall! I tried during summer the California variety 😂 i just wanted to give it a shot knowing my odds. Didn't root at all. I will go for the Midwest variety this fall.

I am in Michigan and actually planted my soft neck garlic this past April and the greens have flopped over, but no brown leaves yet. It is July 16, and raining. So, should i do a test dig to see if they are ready or just leave them in the ground til all leaves turn brown?
You could pull one up to see how it looks. The bulb will probably be quite small. You may need to pull them all up if the greens are already flopping over. You can save some of the individual cloves to plant for next year, and I recommend planting those in early October this year. The bulbs will grow much bigger with a full 9 months in the soil.
