@@ImadHadjersi Having driven a MK7 Golf I can honestly say the affordable shitbox will be the more fun car to drive, and I'd rather have it. The Golf has for 20 years been the definition of mind-numbing, dull herd-mentaility sameness.

My Fav was the MkII Golf GTi. I had a 88 8v, which came with the PB engine, and Digifant. VW's own in-house fully mapped injection/ignition system, and the first fully mapped system in a VW. Only 115bhp but damn good fun and still did 35mpg.

I used to drive a mk2 Gold as my daily and it was an absolutely an amazing car. It was not a GTI but instead had the engine swapped from a mk3. It was my favorite car to have but several electrical issues forced me to replace it with a mk6 Golf which is also an amazing car.

@@8Hshan literally the first person I've heard say that. I know people who don't prefer it, but non that hate it. Here in South Africa the VR6 is loved and the R32 is sought after.

TDI. Turbo Diesel Injection or Turbo Diesel Intercooled? Lots of cars badged TD with no intercooler.
Turbodiesel Direct Injection. AFAIK every single diesel since before the WW2 has some forms of injection, so there's no point in adding just that in the name.

I own a Polo 9n3 GTI from 2008. It is a lovely pocket rocket with a 1.8T producing 150bhp and 220Nm of torque.

They were a great car or when they were developed. Not so great compared to what was on the market when they were produced. A year or so late to market and the Subaru WRX and Peugeots ate their lunch.
The 3-door looked sportier than the 5-door but was not much lighter.
Still one of the great hot hatches of history...

Gti did have a turbo until the mk4 1.8t. Even then not all mk4s had the turbo
