I have so much respect for Gebrselassie for stick with two of the greatest runners in the world at age 40
He didn't just stick with them. He led them the majority of the way.
This was 7 years ago, no?
Indeed
Paradite yeah, he was 40 then, he’s 47 now
Also we have to remember that he's a legend himself and for this race I am sure he'd put himself in two, test these to! Knowing he would be the best man to set the pace for a truly great race.
Bekele had that look on his face...In my mind he's thinking "This is what its all about. This is how legends are made. This is what I live for"!
The greatest road race ever is gonna be the marathon which Kipchoge and Bekele meet and beat the 2 hour mark (officially) probably in Berlin or London
not any time soon but it will happen ;-)
so excited for it
@@zyghom yes sadly
@@yankaitan8648 same
What I'm afraid of is that a year+ from now both Kipchoge and Bekele will be past their individual career peaks and they'll be vulnerable to others who are coming up in the ranks. Everybody gets old.
kenenisa bekele the goat of distance running showed himself again. He is insane and great.
His medal counts in the world Championships and olympics were incredible, but 11 world cross country golds is what makes him the 🐐
Chisoxfan V you have a very good point. He is insanely great. Totally the GOAT of distance running.
@@meharivanderriet3965 ❤💚🇪🇹
Quite interesting to see Mo pushing so hard that his form starts to break, while Bekele is literally untouched by the pace
Bekele is 🔥
Epo
I believe Bekele is pushing harder on the floor than Mo.
Even on the track I find Mo's stride one of the smoothest I've ever seen, and Bekele's is one of the strongest, always ramming so hard downwards before pushing forwards
Bekele was still waiting to kick. That's why he was smiling.
Mo was pushing harder to bridge the gap though
Smiling and shaking hands immediately across the line - respect between great ambassadors of the sport
I respect Haile Gebreselassie he was at 40's that time
I remember watching this when it happened! It is the race I look back on for the reason I run the half and full marathon now. Before this I said I would never run a marathon.
I can see bekele running for hours, my mates always ask me, how u got pleased by simply running by athlete so long
I don't know but he runs with so high kick and seems flying
It's so smooth and graceful ❤️❤️
Love the smile that’s that runners rush😁
So much respect for these runners who can run so far and so long
With such pace🙌
Shubhendu Singh yup
Also their speed is insane. For a normal person it will be a heart attack to run 1km on their pace time
The 2013 Great North Run is easily one of the best runs ever. I've seen the replay on the final mile many times and I'm amazed and excited seeing the 3 of them run every time. That 4:09 final mile is simply out of this world. For anyone who hasn't seen the clip on youtube I highly recommend you take a look so you can hear the commentators losing it live. Simply amazing!
This is the greatest road race ever. I remember watching it, it was utterly amazing!
And Farah was so pissed he lost, he ended up winning 6 Great North Runs in a row! :P
because Kenenisa Bekele didn't involve in those races
He messed up the last hill that year, it was new to him. It wouldve been interesting to see a rematch
With help from Alberto Salazar's formulas
TheRunner
He didn’t mess up shit.
Knowing the course is part of the race.
Plus. He lives in England!!!
Not like the other runners are foreigners or something.
@@fastinradfordable he said he made a bad job of that last hill. Watch how he ran in in this one compared to subsequent years.
Keep in mind the same year in 2013 Mo ran a 3:28 in the 1500
Arguably Mo's best PR & he's not even a 1500 guy
@@heightdevil apparently he is a 1500 guy lmao
@@whitemamba8137 He's a 1500m guy who trained like a 10 000m guy so he can easily outkick everyone at the end of his races. (natural speed endurance and change of pace of a 1500m runner + endurance and strength training of a 10k guy)
ScreenStream what’s his best race then
@@Harz77 his best record would have been the 1500m had he trained for it, but he surely would not have won that much medals then
Great Bekele still manage to smile even when chased by the Great Mo Fara.
I am not sure anymore if the topics you are showing are so amazing or the way you are showing them is so amazing.
Probably both ;-)
Love your channel. Recently got into running and am so glad there’s someone like you who shares that passion but on top of that makes these amazing videos please don’t stop 🙏
This video hyped me up. I want to see bekele beat kipchoge now
me too
I don’t care who wins, the race would be epic.
your not going to see that bro!!!!
Bekele to beat kipchoge in the marathon
Eliud will win because he’s the goat of the marathon; Bekele is the king of the distance running at the track but Eliud is untouchable at the marsthon
Whenever bekele look over his shoulder be sure he is about to unleash unusual speed
Well said
its so deceiving because you think he's tired, but its a signal to say im about to throw down a GOAT speed
Hey I just wanna say your channel is one of my biggest inspirations for making my channel so thanks man!
Ethiopian heroes 🇪🇹
Imagine being able to run faster than some people can ride a bike, must be cool.
I do that often and I'm not even sub-elite. Some people are just slow on bikes.
Brilliant race and excellent commentary. I have very little interest in running but you keep hooking me back in with some great videos.
One of my all-time favorites is the 2008 London Marathon. Epic battle between Lel, Wanjiru, and Goumri.
That sharp downhill part just before the last mile is awesome.
Great to see you cover this race! I’m from near where this takes place and it’s a great event to take part in. Unreal atmosphere. Of course when I’ve run it I’m about 30 minutes behind these guys 😂
That’s incredible! This road race was the greatest ever! Great job on the video!
You Make Great Videos Brotha, Keep It Up!!
The 2 distance goats and an incredible unforgettable talent in Mo. incredible race. So glad we were privileged to watch it.
This is truly one of the all-time great distance running races; along with that Sydney 2000 Olympics 10K where Gebrselassie outkicked Tergat from just behind in literally the last ~15 meters.
That last 400m was epic
Huge respect to all three of those incredibly runners.
Truly incredible race!! So crazy to see some generational talents go head to head and duke it out hard. The boys were FIT!!!
Clearly this is the greatest
Wordless, sheer RESPECT!
Awesome editing bro!!
East Africans the greatest runners ever 🇪🇹🇦🇼🇰🇪🇪🇷🏁
Running a half-marathon at 40 in 60 minutes.. find me another HUMAN BEING capable of that.. Amazing.
Such a sick finish.. Just KB looking back saying not while I'm in the race. Mo could just never top a healthy KB. I am a MO fan as well. Can't wait to watch him race again. Tough race .. and smart tactic since KB was in the back most of the race and stuck when it mattered
totally agree!!
That would be such a great race to see🎉
Not shown is that in the BBC coverage, Paula Radcliffe said she had advised Mo to ease off on that final steep downhill to save his quads. In the commentary she even remarks how he is taking her advice. In the footage you can see how hard he is braking down the hill and he then wasn't in a position to cover Bekele's move. So I've always blamed Paula for the fact that Mo did not win this race 😄
Astute observation. Thank-you. Perhaps Sir Mo will break Gebrselassie’s one hour record and redeem himself.
i agree with u 100 ...Mo was in great shape and if he didn't ease off at the downhill he would have won this race easily
what a race
three of the greatest
Congrats on 100k subs
TY!
Key to success; dont get tired
Amazing racers.
Berlin 2013 and Berlin 2016 marathons were spectacular road races!
No one can out spring bekele if he's already in the front. That's why he was smiling. It gave him Joy knowing that mo was only going to get bekele to go faster
I watched it as a livestream back then... What a finish!
Brisbane Commonwealth Games 1982 Marathon. Rob DeCastella’s come from behind victory over the two brilliant Tanzanians. And, the infamous sponge incident that to this day sees some runners cooling their upper hamstrings.
I think this HM was incredible, however, my greatest road race was the 1992 Commonwealth Games marathon in Brisbane, Australia. The great Australian marathon runner, Robert De Castella ran down two Tanzanians in very hot and humid conditions. I was there that day, and still don't know how they ran that fast. At one point, the Tanzanians had around 400m lead, but it was not enough. What an amazing last 5km.
For me is the best road races - London Marathon 2019, when win Eliud Kipchoge with amazing finish. And of course last year´s Kipchoge´s attempt 2 hours in Vienna, that was amazing!
I hope Bekele and Kipchoge will run in London in autumn this year. I am so excited for this event!!!
I watched this on TV. Seeing Mo so close before the downhill gave us brits hope that his kick would be enough.
I loved Haile as a runner but Bekele was just more beautiful as a runner. His stride is perfect. Mo won so many hearts with his grit when he lost, his face showed his effort.
As the gnr is my local half marathon I'm super biased about this race.
King is one and only Haile Gebrselassie
Because of Bekele, people forget how incredible Gebrselassie was.
Haile "King" Gebrselassie
Chisoxfan V nope. Nobody forgets though. Maybe younger generation but certainly not the 30s and above. We know him well. Hes the former King. Now is the Bekele’s reign. And Bekele look up to Haile when he was young too. 🙂
‘The Emperor’
I always loved Haille. I was in the crowd the day he narrowly beat Tergat in the 10k in Sydney. A truly epic track race.
I think the greatest road "race" was the ineos159 challenge, because even though Kipchoge wasn't competing against other people, only the 2 hour barrier, and it was unofficial, it showed the world that no barrier that seems impossible is really impossible.
Now that's how you make a great video!
Abebe Bikila 1960 Rome and Emile Zatopek 1952 Helsinki.
Wow, I feel like I want to cry because of the fighters.
Too hard for me to say what is the greatest road race ever but I think the Duel in the sun between Dick Beardsley and Alberto Salazar at the 1982 Boston Marathon is one of the greatest ever. What an incredible effort by both runners on a hot day in Boston and an amazing finish.
Congrats on 100k
Oh my god I’ve heard of you you look like pewdiepie
@@zachfriedman4263 I wish lots of poeple think I copy pewdiepie name. Yes I'm swedish but I'm not even close to being related to him the F stands for Fred but lots of people think its felix becasue if pewdiepie.
And I also know your not serious
F. KJELLBERG well you’re clearly trying to make it look like you’re copying Felix
F. KJELLBERG and Felix isn’t peediepie wtf
Berlin 2009 world championships 10000m was my favorite race. Tadese ❤
Best channel on YT
This may be your best ever video.
MAN, just seeing these three run together, just...WOW!!! This was before Kipchoge was well-known, I think; still AWESOME! The final was 4:10 ?!?! INSANE!!!😃❤🏃🏿♂️🙌🏾
LEGENDS!!!👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿😎
I´d love to see Kamworor get a chance to show his speed against other absolute greats like the ones in this video. A 13:45 5k in a fucking half marathon is insane, but Kamworor won the 2018 Half Marathon Championship with a final 5k of 13:01!
One of the most memorable races was the 1979 Boston Marathon with Bill Rogers winning over Toshihiko Seko in a new American record.
Unquestionably this is the greatest road race in history. As a British runner- Even I was screaming for bekele, after his previous seasons.
Kenenisa is the beast. What a performance
That last 400m from Farah was insane!!! He nearly got there!
But if he managed to pass Bekele, you know Bekele would unleash another gear, he looked so effortless
@@jaytang3972 of course ❤
Raw beauty!!
When are Bekele and Kipchoge battling it out?
This was this summer in London unfortunately COvid-19 .. would of love to see that .🏁 East Africans the greatest runners Indeed.
Hinoots perhaps london 2021 marathon?
I think the London Marathon 2002 belongs in this discussion - Kannouchi, Tergat and Haile plus a WR.
I would have to say this just barely beats the Boston Marathon 2019 final sprint that was decided by about a second
Watch the 2005 New York Marathon. And I think the 2008 (or 2007? 🤔) Chicago marathon. Amazing sprint finishes in the marathon! And then also watch ‘the crawl’. The most ridiculous ending to any race! (They both race crawl to the finish!) 😳
can you see that mo was screaming and tried so damn hard while bekele was still smiling lol
The 2019 Boston Marathon was the best I ever saw in real time. As at the 2013 Great North Run, three runners (Desisa, Cherono and Kipkemoi) were flying at the end of that race, which was of course a full marathon. Cherono prevailed.
one of the best is the 2015 London marathon ... Kipchoge vs Kemeto vs Kipsang :
Mo earned his stripes IMO during that race. Geb once again set a blistering pace, topped off with a world record. Kenny basically being Kenny. Greatness is genetic and this race exemplifies just that. Gave me the feels watching Mo go loco the last quarter. If I had to put my cheddar on one runner pre race, it played out exactly as envisioned. ✌
I wish they had current races to focus on.
I was hoping we could see something similar in the London Marathon this year. Does anyone know if Berlin is still holding their marathon?
It's cancelled😳
Please do the Ibrahim Jeilan vs Mo Farah incredible run
Chills.
Three champions ,three gold medals
HE’S FULL OF RUNNING
Can u please cover Asbel Kiprop
Amazing video!
IMO you should stop spoiling the outcomes of these kind of races in the title though - would make it even more suspenseful!
Three of the best runners of all time.
You should do a video on ultra running 👍
Yay
Bekele was and still is the 🐐 . Nobody in the world could run him down during his time in best form. Noone.
Should I skip the ads or is it better for the channel if I let it run through?
Greatest road race ever was my 10k time trial to decide who runs at my intercollegiate championship , screamed in the last 1/2 mile to not lose
outside the box but...the marathon leg of the '89 ironman world championships has to rank somewhere on the list. the two greatest ironman triathletes of all time, and only males to win six, running side by side for literally almost the entire run. it was the new guard replacing the old and it couldn't have been any better cuz it had to ripped away from dave scott. epic
This route has deceptive hills too!
What’s the song at the end?
This could be perhaps, to date, especially if you consider the calibre of running. Yet, it may be a bit premature to compare this to other great road races until we’ve seen a Bekele and Kipchoge showdown potentiating the first official marathon record shy of 2 hours, which may even be hailed as the greatest athletic feat of all time. Kenenisa Bekele will share the dream as being “the greatest”, like the amazing Haile Gebrselassie before him. How very fortunate we are to witness the passing of this torch.
Final 400m at 3’56” mile pace as part of a 4’10” final mile at the end of a half marathon is superhuman.
Yes farah was tired. This race was farah's first half marathon
Cameron Wong he ran a 26:41 10k 2 years before this, and this was Kenenisa Bekeles first half marathon too. It’s not like these guys are local hobby joggers lol the distance doesn’t determine much about an elite athletes performance as long as they’re trained for it
I don't think you get it. These guys run longer than marathon on their basic trainings. The run almost/ actually everyday. They are used to and can defo run anything that has to do with distance. Specially since all of them here are used to a competion saying this specific distance race is my first race can't be an exuse besides they trained for these half marathon is so it all comes down to the hard work and effort they put. Besides it is not like Mo was far behind or unexpirienced.
