This video and comment section lead me down a rabbit hole lol. Where I ended up was that I was correct in 2019 feeling that Jon Bellion's sound going mainstream was inevitable haha. Perfect scenario haha. I remember hearing the songs he did on the last Justin Bieber album, and hearing that Maroon 5 song "Lost" and being like "Yup that is 100% undeniably Jon Bellion, written and produced"
I’m not a fan of the Garage style, but Bellion being involved nearly puts me in the subconscious group you mentioned. Tori’s Shelter is the best song Bellion was involved with on her latest EP.

I have seen many pop producers have chosen Cubase for their main daw. The DAW doesn't really matter and you can do great music with any modern DAW, but just out of curiosity - do you see any advantages of Cubase? Hello from Ableton User :)
I love the workflow of Cubase. The way they balance working with MIDI and live recording is so good. And the stock features they have are top tier. It's stable. I just never really found ANY reason to try anything else.
Apart from the common producer/songwriter I would think the upbeat BPMs are becoming popular because of the "sped up" TikTok music. It also explains why the productions are generally a bit brighter and chipmunkier.

You're 100% correct in that the trend is moving towards 2000s & UK Garage inspired pop. However I can feel this getting super super tired in the next 9-12 months. I think there's specific patterns and production elements that make this genre what it is and hearing it everywhere is gonna get super boring. Exactly lol I’m already getting tired of the UK Garage sound but that’s because I grew up with it and all the other edm and dance styles of the early 90s - 10s, trance, house, DnB, etc. Honestly I personally feel because of TikTok and the over consumption of trends, these trends will have a big short impact and then slowly fade out after a year, because if everyone is consuming the same beats, rhythms and choreography, people will just burn out quickly.

It’s the called - 2 step beat that Craig David made huge over 20 years ago. Check “Fill Me in” - Craig David. He brought it to the market first - year 2000 to be exact -23 yrs ago. Yes we going back to this beat.
I think the new pop sound will be like Owl City at 1.1x Speed. Return of cheap digital synthesizer sounds. Over cuteness melodies and elements from the hyperpop trend paired with faster beats from the ongoing trance/dnb trend. But also a little note of dreamy emotions from bedroom/lo-fi pop, which is also very popular since the lookdown.
I've implemented the Amin break into many of my tracks, especially House tracks. Interesting to see it used as the main drum beat for Pop styles. It works.
It's a really good beat, and, like you say, you can do a lot of different stuff over it. I like it paired with a solid lead synth riff like Super Shy. As I stated in the video, the history of the amen break, and most other breaks, is very long and there is already an amazing video on RUclips that goes over all of that. Also, I 100% mentioned hip hop throughout this video as a reference and use for the drum break.
I love this idea for a video cause I think about this all the time with genre blending. I don't really consider the sound selection when determining if something is pop or not to me its more does this follow a verse chorus verse chorus bridge chorus arrangement. PinkPantheress is the first one that I heard make it her style since like 2021. I'm also hearing it in the underground too.
I hope there not the next Pop Wave.... Regarding 1:28... Those somgs you referred to, they just sound boring to me. The Beat is similar to a Shuffle beat. The Vocals and Production qualities are good, but the songs are just not that good. I am getting tired of the same old beats with the same sounding percussion added with minimal instrumentation. I think some it may be due to, too many sample tracks being used. How about actually writing interesting music and actually having it played by good musicians, instead of all MIDI tracks and Samples being used for 85% of the music. I think the reason so many Sample tracks & MIDI Tracks are used is because a good percentage of the time there are a lot of people using piano rolls hunting and pecking out notes, just becuase they are not true musicians or can't play very well. This is where the overall sound of music will come to a slow death.. Like they say a lot of things come full circle in muscic. Every 20-25 years or so you will start to hear influence from the past 20-25 years just as you stated in regards to Dua Lipa and Lizzo. If you think about over the last 80 years you will start to connect the dots every 20 or so years......... Just IMO.....LOL...😎
As someone who spent a bit of time recently in the NY music industry, it's somewhat of a consensus among professionals and executives that, whether it'll be considered pop or not, JB’s new sound is going to be one of the next big things. Edit: As a side note, if it doesn't merge with pop, I like the term neo-Americana, which I've heard used to describe the Jonas Brother’s latest album.

He pointed at Jack Antonoff and said "My turn!"
Interesting, JB being Justin Bieber ?
@@timrault Jon Bellion
Right thanks
Man that album sounds like everything else hahaha. Other than some dead drums and muted live bass guitar.
Edit: also, summer in the Hampton? Really?
Jon Bellion is involved with 2 out of the 4 songs, Jung Kook and Latto's record and the Tori Kelly record.
Just listen to anything from Jon bellion bc EVERY ARTIST WORKS WITH HIM! Writing/producing 🔥
