    Hi Joe, well I hope it’s Joe, or I’m going to be very embarrassed. I truly enjoy your videos, and more than that I really love the music you play on your videos as well. I like that there’s no cussing, and a man just dedicated to his work and a master of wood. I am an engineer, or a mechanical engineer but a chemical type. I am a musician so I can enjoy your choice of music, there’s nothing I heard on your videos I didn’t like. You are the kind of person I know I would love to converse with. I live in New Hampshire. And since I moved back east, I love being around trees, and forests. It’s been 62 years since I passed through Tennessee. Keep on with this great videos and music. Very best regards, Chet

    When a 35 year old white pine lost it's top in a storm my dad and I took it down for lumber but it took us 2 years to get them out of the woods. Nearly every board made is stained blue, and full of bug holes. Apparently both are desired.

    Beautiful Pine Nathan and Many Thanks for the video, with beautiful drone shots of some beautiful land as well! I often use orange shellac on pine. You do have to work faster since it dries quickly and with experience you can get great results. Shellac, white or orange, really brings out the grain in all woods. There are tougher finishes of course for table tops and the like but shellac is very tough. That figured pine will make beautiful panels no doubt. And with some age and light exposer, it will turn a mellow and darker color. Myself and other OTW fans are looking forward to your barn and cabinets and more surprises in the logs you saw. Thanks Kindly and Love, Light and Peace to You and your Family! DaveyJO in Pa.

    Expanding on the "Lowe's for 2x4s" comments: Isn't there enough wood in your initial cuts to get 1 or 2 boards for rough framing without having to go to the Forbidden Store? It's hard to tell how much is really there from the video, but I swear I've seen some pretty thick slab cutoffs. Surely you could have gotten some there.

    Nice Pine, 80% of the timbers I mill are Eastern White Pine from my old growth forest along the St John River in NB Canada, some grow so big they don’t fit my mill Woodland HM126, maybe someday I will upgrade to something that will cut 36” or more. • @peternicholsonu6090
    @peternicholsonu6090 4 года назад

    Sir, some years ago Wooden Boat magazine had an information page telling of something which made sense but could never confirm. Trees drawing up moisture from the ground up the length of the trunk, apparently use ‘capillary’ action. This induces compressive load on the surrounding wood. They claim that a hardwood can withstand this pressure but softwoods cannot therefore they claimed the softwoods would draw up in managed stages to ease the loading. I have never noted evidence of this in lumber. Do you or any viewers know of this?

    • @OutoftheWoods0623
      @OutoftheWoods0623  4 года назад

      yes that is correct, why I seal the ends to reduce the massive moisture loss on end grain, prevents end chedking,
