You could make some nice gun stocks with that ha ha
I noticed that you use a wide blade mud knife to clean off sawdust when looking at fresh cuts. Do you find that scratches the boards more that a bench brush or something softer?
Yeah you keep those. My butcher also keeps the back strap, but thats another story.
That grain is gorgeous.
@@mstrdiver the knife wouldn’t scratch that much. Been there with sawdust, and that’s the fastest, easiest way to clean sawdust. Any type of brush isn’t going to get the sawdust off.
I just found your channel, and I know nothing of sawmill operations, but I will never tire of seeing a craftsman practice his trade.
thanks Darrell,
I'm a cabinet maker over in England, I'd love to make something out of the wood you mill. That walnut was amazing
Man... you are so fortunate. You reveal beauty that no one else has ever seen before. I wish i was in your shoes.Great videos sir...
Definitely do a video on sharpening the blades. It'd be fun to see how to handle blades that size.
will do!
Kik j inches
No cutter does suspense filled slabs like you. It's TRUE this one is superior quality. No lie
Man oh man. Some of those slabs could be oiled and hung up as giant wall art .
Yep put them through a thickneser first to even them and remove saw marks and then a drum sander.
SamNBobbie Yup.
My thought as well
I truly want to thank you for taking these logs and making slabs to create something beautiful out of them. This means to me the life of the tree wasn’t wasted. When some of the trees are cut down it’s for developers, because they don’t want to leave them up. They just rip the trees down. The developers don’t realize the trees are a living thing. I know sometimes a tree dies, it must be removed. But, again you make the life of a tree worthwhile. Thank you for the videos, I know they are hard work, and I see what you do is hard but, it sure should give you satisfaction. You have such a talent for knowing what to do, and how to do the job. Good luck to you.
Thanks. Appreciate you
Well, if we were talking wood for 'Rifle Stocks that wood would be between grades AAAA and Exhibition Grade.
A lot of money right there.
I had the opportunity to meet a guy in our area that cut a lot of Western Oregon Black Walnut. He was a well known bow maker and rifle stock carver. He told me when I visited him that he would cut the tree down and sell off that lumber. But what he was after was the root. He would dig that out because that's where the figure is. I've seen his stocks and I think he's right. Maybe you've heard of him his last name was Keasey.
The 2nd slab has a wonderful figure of an owl from that camera angle. No wonder Native American cultures said the trees hold spirits. Spectacular!
Thanks for watching 👍👍
Your enthusiasm is infectious! Part of the reason I watch!---But, I'm a true 'knot' lover, and am always eagle-eyed when you open a slab to see if there's any knots visible!---And I was happy to catch that flash to the camera of the knot wood you trimmed before pitchin' 'em!
When I was a young man I spent 5 years milling hardwoods for a cabinet shop. I had forgotten how much I enjoy the absolute joy that only the beauty of wood can bring to your soul. Thank you for these videos!
John Sabean Well said, sir.
That last slab you showed made my jaw drop and took my breath away! BEAUTIFUL!
Nature produces some beautiful things , likes hope man looks after this planet in the future.
Great find. Thanks for sharing
Now THAT, my friend, is a beauty of a tree! I just kept "WOW" ing until the end!
The coffee swirl in that slab of walnut is spectacular!
I'm learning so excited I'm on second slab. Love this.
thanks for watching,
Another great log. I too would like to see a video dedicated to the blade sharpening process. Those little sneak peaks at your sharpener are intriguing. Reminds me of the same actions as an old sheet fed printing press. Thanks for posting.
Those slabs would make some gorgeous live edged tables.
Wow, what a beauty!
You were right my friend.that is one magnificent piece of mother natures wonders.👍👍👍😃
Unbelieveable. Wow!!! Amazing.
I've watched a lott of saw mill guys . And your my favorite you explained every thing well . I would love to have a mill but a 75 to late . Not man enough anymore .

Stunning lumber, thanks again for showing us.

That humpy knot on top could make spectacular bowl turned up.
Best way to describe in text only - Those Slabs have excellent Character and Personality!
Looks like that stubborn 4 footer turned out to be a prize winner, and look at those colors...awesome.
agreed
Wow, what a neat log!!! Like you said, worth all the extra time!
thats Steve, will finish it off tomorrow, lots of slabs left in it,
Thank you Brotherman, every slab is a work of art. Love your reveals.
Glad you like them!
Unbelievably beautiful slabs. Thanks for doing these videos.
thanks for watching,
Each log gets better and better !!!!
Yes 👍👍
My favorite wood is black walnut. So seeing this one really impresses me. Good job.
That view at the end overlooking that valley reminds
me of Cumberland Gap.
Gorgeous!!!!
That last slab was truly amazing.
Holy Toledo that is beautiful pattern !
As a turner, I was salivating when I saw you throw that first piece away. Please tell me those don’t go in a burn pile. Walnut in western Canada is extremely expensive, and pieces like that are rare
Beautiful log
Brother you are KILLING me with these logs! I want all of them!
wow that was like Xmas never know what your GONNA get till you open it up.. so nice.
Those slabs are truly beautiful.
Thanks 👎👍
That is absolutely beautiful !
Thanks 👍👍
Your enthusiasm is infectious and your craftsmanship admirable - great channel!
Thanks 👍👍
Wow! Just wow!
thanks!
You, sir, have an exceptional talent and a matching eye for what's buried within an otherwise plain looking log (except for the cut ends - absolutely beautiful in their depth of color!). It's cear that you've spent a good deal of your life learning about wood.
Love your videos and especially milling Black Walnut my personal favorite keep on milling. Also enjoy the side comments about your neighbors and other tips you tell your viewers also
thanks, appreciate you watching,
That last slab when wet actually gave off the illusion of depth. The crotch appeared as if it was tapering down 10-12". Am I exaggerating? I have never seen a piece of wood like it. Experience has certainly given you an eye for detecting that something rare and special is about to be revealed. The handwork of God is something to behold.
What an awesome video. It's amazing that out of all the logs I've watched you saw, the best slabs come from a log bound for the tub grinder. Outstanding work, can't blame you for putting these in the personal collection. Can't wait to see what's next. Y'all have a good one, see you on the next one.
thanks Joey, appreciate you watching,
Incredible work as well as log sir.
Omg,absolutly most beautifull ever good lord I love it
That is wonderful Gratz!!
Just ran across your video and have watched a few already. I could watch beautiful slabs like that cut all day. Nothing like seeing all the details come alive in a piece of wood.
Thanks. Appreciate it
Nature's work of art. great video and thanks for sharing..
Thanks for watching!
wow beautiful wood!
the burl is the best part thanks for effort bryan
I would love to have one of those slabs! Beautiful
Magnificent slabs
I'd ever be able to sell that. My house would be full of the stuff, walls, tables, benches, beds, cabinets. . . But only from the stuff that didn't get carved into Gunstocks first. Wow!
yeah I look back sometimes and regret selling some of it,
@@OutoftheWoods0623 There's always more treasures to uncover!

Out of this World !
Really nice patterned wood. It's like finding a valuable painting .
What gorgeous pieces man!
Every billet you pull out I catch myself visualizing guitar shapes on top of them.
I think that with every log he saw.
I"m a quarter sawed oak board man myself but that walnut log you just cut is the best I"ve seen yet very nice lumber I'm jealous.
Yes do a video on the blades...💖💖💖
Thank you sir
Enjoy your videos very much, I saw a gorgeous rifle stock staring at me in that 2nd slab. Keep up the excellent work.

I was really getting into that and it ended. Compulsive viewing and simply brilliant.
Thanks appreciate you watching
Beautiful piece 👍🇺🇸
OUTSTANDING!!!!!
thanks Wade!
That knot nearest the camera looks like it could make an excellent piece for someone to turn a bowl out of.
I like slabbing them "hard to set up" crotch logs. The reward is always worth the challenge!!!! Great video I love the enthusiasm!!!
thanks!
Okay! Prettiest I have seen yet! Love to just have that hanging up in my front room. Looking forward to the blade video. Have a good day.
thanks Justin,
Really nice wood right there
This one IS awesome!
Those three knot offcuts should be shipped the Bus Huxley! He can make shallow bowls and multiple serving plates while he"s recuperating from his broken foot.
I'd love to turn some of them into knife handles.
Nathan that's a keeper
Outstanding!
thanks Robert,
Goodness !
