If I try to explain this to anyone they just don’t understand. “I’m watching some guy that I don’t even know operate a sawmill way over in the other end of Tennessee”, but brother I like everything you’re doing. I always come away from your videos feeling instructed, encouraged and entertained and I thank you for all of that. Great teaching, excellent video editing and mighty fine music too. Thank you
Thanks. Appreciate you
Can't have all that beautiful greenery 🌳 without all that wettery 🌧️...
Agreed
Just wanted to add that I always enjoy the music you add to these videos!!
thanks!
I am enjoying binging your channel, Nathan. Love it all! I enjoyed your conversation about your edc. I, too, am a fan of Olights and their magnetic charging. 😁
Nathan, Chris taught you a very valuable trick. Framing squares can be very useful in the shop. We used them when we were building doors, prehung doors, especially exterior units, cabinets, etc. I wanted to make sure everything was square when it left the shop.
yes sir, thanks David,
It is very nice to see our good friend Mr. Nathan setting a good example by being safe at the sawmill. A belt AND suspenders. You can't be too safe, y'all.
They go together I say 😎
Thank you for your channel. It is a pleasure to learn from you.
thank you for watching,
I never realized so much thought went into cutting boards. Always figured you just tossed a log on there and started cutting an inch or two off at a time. Way more strategy involved than i thought
Clever, using a square. Quality workmanship producing top quality.
I must say thank you for your service to the people as an officer,my brother was an officer also, and thanks for what you provide to us as an audience of your channel...God Bless...Napa California
thanks Sean appreciate that,
@@OutoftheWoods0623 your welcome🤗
That was a beautiful 8x8 looking foreword to the barn going up and seeing all that good timber made into a structure.
thanks Craig me 2 friend,
I like that little claw you got to help you roll the log. Looks new.
That is a good tip on carrying a flashlight I will start doing that. I have found that a cell phone camera helps my old tired eyes a lot. I take a picture of something i cant see well and then blow it up. It helps a lot.
We never stop learning Nathan! I’m sure your business will continue to grow as you learn more and accept advice from your peers. Well done mate 👍🏻🇦🇺
thanks Kevin,
Nathan, I now have a mental picture of a bearded Cop... Thank you for the chuckle.
haha I was a Vice guy so yes the beard was around then,
Good work on the giant tooth pick. Would like to see the rest of the cuts. Tell Bruno to come say hi more often. Cool video.
will do, thanks Richard,
With the high temperatures that you get were you are, if you did not get that God given rain often, you would be living in a desert. That rain gives you that green green land and those trees.
The barn build stuff is really cool. When we see the finished product, we will know everything that went into it. Keep up the good work. Agree about the really bright flashlights. They are amazing now.
thanks Jim,
Very good idea for squaring up a timber. Didn't realise that the clamp was capable of pushing those bars over. Another great video. Love the drone footage. 👍👍
thanks buddy,
Glad to see the Forman in the video :-) if Bruno approves it must be square!!!!!!!! Awesome video keep up the great work. There will be some solid weeks of sunshine coming soon👍
😂😂👍
Great video and thx Chris Koon for the method of truing up my cuts. Been watching ur videos for a month now and always end with a smile - especially when the foreman approves ur work.
hanks Thomas, appreciate it,
You can't get more accurate than that Nathan. Thanks much for a very enjoyable video! My Best to the Foreman as well! Got o keep on his of side fer ser! Blessings! DaveyJO in Pennsylvania
Thanks buddy. Appreciate it
Looking good my friend, love watching your videos. Thanks for keeping us updated. And you are right, I don"t think it will ever quit raining here in East Tennessee.Take care buddy.
thanks Bill,
Nice bit of tye beam work Nathan. Looks really good. Another very informative video thank you! Love how something simple allows you to keep the wood square. Thanks buddy, take care Graham 🇬🇧🇬🇧
Awesome stuff! I like the chillhop interlude @ 6:00
thanks buddy,
That was a nice ride. Have a great week.
Thanks buddy
Nathan from my days as a apprentice pattern maker circa 1980 a 64th inch equals one degree per inch. We used to set our work with a 2 degree taper so the parts could be removed from the sand mold.
Good morning my friend been watching your channel for quite a while really enjoy it just now learning how to send a message to you very slow on computers stuff keep up the good work my prayers will be with you and your family Jesus name
I keep a speed square in my tool belt when I'm sawing for getting the log right for that third cut. It's good enough most of the time. If the face is too high up for the speed square, or if I want it to be perfect, a framing square is handy. Now If I could just figure out how to get that log turned back to square after I've accidentally turned it too far I'd be doing real good.
Looking good, nice work on the tie.
thanks buddy, appreciate all your help,
Life experiences have given you a great perspective as summarized by: "famous last words". Great.
👍👍👍
I was wondering what in the world that was. Thanks for clearing that up. You said something about earlier but I didn’t catch it. And I to sit and watch him cut up wood. Wife’s got a couple cousins around there. Will have to try to make it down there soon.
Love your videos. Keep up the great work and thank you for your service.👍👍👍👍👍
thank you John,
still love when you open a log that trick works great
Good idea on how to help keep things squared up. Question: Is the whole saw mill jacked up a little to relieve the two tires from resting on the floor in one place? Also..I noticed that both tires are uncovered and exposed to the saw mill kicking up all the dust and perhaps the tires are getting hit with splinters at a high rate of speed when sawing wood. I've seen people who own campers use tire covers when the camper is not in use. The covers are in the shape of the tire and fit snug around them. Made of nylon tarp I would think. Since you're not moving the mill around very much, maybe covers would help protect the tires. Just a thought.
I’m a total newb to sawmills so excuse this question- 1. Can you use that beam right away with no drying? 2. If you dry it out and put the framing square back on it will it hold true or twist a little? Thanks for your videos, we really enjoy them. Just bought 100+ acres in N Idaho and we have lots of trees.
Thank you for your service!
l sure like that...Square up deal, that is simple and true....W0W..... Thanks Nathan....More sawmill stuff bring it on....!!
thanks Steve!!
Great job!
thanks John,
Of course it never feels like work, it is fun and a hobby. LOL. I do it almost every day except for milling the logs which I only do occasionally on logs that are under 14 inches in diameter and no more than 8 feet longer on a regular bandsaw with rollers on both indeed and outscored sides.
Think about how lasers could help in your alignment and cutting. Need to mount one to the frame at blade height. Just a thought. They make cheap laser pointers to play around with......Thanks Ethan.
Never knew why wood is sterilized and for how long. Thanks for clarifying.
Your videos are getting all the time , PS you will have to ask the forman for a raise . .
thanks Bob, appreciate you,
Exceptional.
Love your videos..
thanks Vince,
Keep em coming!
yes sir,
Good afternoon from St John Parish, Louisiana 7 Jan 21.
Hello everyone
the lawn man hey 👍👍
Cool job, nicely done
thanks Les,
Nice of Bruno to make a cameo appearance. Won't be long and he'll be wearing man-glitter like you do.
yes the boss is coming soon,
@@OutoftheWoods0623 Outstanding!
Nathan, this was another terrific video. Thanks for your attention to the camera setups and great camera angles to give us viewers a clear view and understanding of what we’re watching. You are also a wonderful explainer. The explanation of squaring up your timber cuts was very clear. The part of the video where you take us across that open field of grass, blew me away. Did you get that with a drone? Some of your opening shots above your place or area, l assume you get with a drone. They are great intros into videos. Does using a drone add a lot of setup time or editing time? Thank you so much for these videos and your milling and drying craft! God bless you brother, from CentralTexas.
thanks Dave,
Bee you tee full Nathan...😎
As a soon to be huge sawmill owner with no extra resources except my 30 yrs of framing.
What advice would you recommend as a new sawmill owner hoping to grow his weekend sawmill business with nothing but drive , determination and an old Massey Ferguson 165 tractor.
I do have an empty 6x12 enclosed trailer that could be used for storage but that’s it.
Thanks !
Dewayne from Knox County, (Corryton)
Hey Nathan where do you get your long chisels from we only have standard sized ones here in the UK and would love some longer ones thanks
Got to feed those trees
I would use a new, oscillating multi-saw to finish cutting out the mortices after hogging them out with a router.
Loving these videos showing insights into your day to day operations! Just curious do you have any follow up on the hanging metal guides? Are they meeting your expectations? In the videos I watch it never seems like they are doing much.
Next video 👍👍
Nice!
Great videos! After watching this one, I am curious what you use for a moisture meter? I am relatively new to the sawmilling game and looking for a recommendation. Thanks!
As a paramedic: I routinely carry a knife, leatherman, headlight, and pair of bandage shears on duty!!
👍👍
Why use the debarker on one side only? Are those white strips safety shields?
I am in southeast Alaska. You would love sawing a spruce from here.Pound for pound strongest wood.
would love to get my hands on some,
What kind of metal detector do think is best for checking the log .
You've probably been asked this question multiple times, but what are your sources of music for the videos? When I try to Soundhound the music, it usually brings up zilch. I really like most of the music you use. Great stuff!
Who gets the credit for the guitar music (comes in @ 4:26) in this video? Sorry if I missed it or if I shoulda heard it already, cause I watch nearly all your videos. Seems familiar. Dont know but its a good lick.

Wow same same same time to go elsewhere.
What are those 8 black/white things hanging there.
Board return guides 👍
Other things that should be carried everyday remained unmentioned
@Nathan Elliott
And yet they are not Punished as those that do... Who is John Galt?
@@TMB247 I am John Galt
Everything's looking good. Its not often we see a cat photo bombing a video.
Won’t be much longer and he will be slinging sawdust with you.
awesome,
Just like Michelangelo said He never knew what was inside a piece of marble, it seems the same about a log, As Forest Gump said "You never know what your gonna get!"
When you find a job you like, you never have to work a day in your life.
Why are those circle sawn? Looks like it came off my mill
yes sir, had a large mill get them for me,
Out of the Woods I like your videos what kind of moisture meter were you talking about a while back?
Have you had any issues with your new Mahindra Tractor since youve had it?
None been a great tractor
@@OutoftheWoods0623 Good Thank you. 🇺🇸
Do you have to kiln dry a large beam like that one?
No sir. Use it green
@@OutoftheWoods0623 awesome! I bought a Norwood hd36 and I've been making gigantic outdoor furniture! I just want to make sure that my 1600 pound picnic tables made with eight by eight beams and 12 quarter live edge tops won't move too much......
Why isn't there a debarker on both sides of log?
Not needed. Blade exit doesn’t effect the tooth much
Rain makes trees grow faster. :)
Agreed
Good job, the boy is getting big. Probably have a partner there.
Strop those chisels several times a day. softwood is a problem unless chisels and planes are razor sharp.
agreed
tu est moderé dans le propos ,merci, pardonnez mon language
👍💥
👍👍
For those of us who are close, do you sell your wood?
Yes
😊🦉
👍👍
👍🏼😊
I never realised it was necessary to sterilise wood. I do now.
yer cuttin parallel to the bed, not square to it..... HB
yeah you know what I meant, something get off when trying to film and talk, lol, thanks buddy,
As a retired carpenter l shudder every time you let your tape measure snap back. You are flogging out the rivets and reducing the accuracy of that tape!
I enjoy your videos and the fact that you are a cat guy!
It's hip to be "square ".
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🙏🏼
I was expecting a picture of mamma kitty. LOL. Not your son.
😊😊👍👍👍💖
Have you watched any of Shawn James videos? ( ruclips.net/video/EPTqMLOvwCA/видео.html)He also has a show called My self Reliance: ruclips.net/video/7rgGEkI510Q/видео.html He builds so many things using very few power tools and lives off-grid. Your beams remind me of some of the work he does.
Any work you can do with passion isn't really " work "
Is that a Whitechapel flag in the sawshack and the shop?
Tennessee state flag
Out of the Woods many apologies, being from Canada haha sorry man. And I was half right, as Whitechapel is from Knoxville and has your state flag on a lot of their merchandise. Regardless, I truly appreciate the channel and am taking a hundred notes, getting into the business myself up here. Keep it up!
👍👍👍👍
It's 32 here. :-/
🤦♂️🤦♂️
BS.....
Your life isn’t BS. Cheer up buddy. Things get better. Come by the sawmill this week and we can talk about it
