In the video, snow sculptures of Japanese anime family are called "Sazae San,"
Sazae san( Ms. Turban shell) is a main female character of the family.
All characters who appear in the animation have sea creature's name.
Her young brother is called Katsuo (Bonito) , her younger sister is called Wakame(Seaweed) and so on.
I always come back to this video. You all made it my dream to go to the snow festival!

Ps, it's really cool to see the Kotatsu! We Iranians have been using the same thing since ancient times, called a Korsi (but traditionally with a burning coal, instead of electricity). Really awesome to learn!

I totally agree with you Kyde, it is nicer in Otaru. It's not as commercialized as Hokkaido. It looks like the children are doing a lot of the features in Otaru. I was so excited to see a new video from you and Eric. I love your videos.

I continue to be amazed at your 1080 60p videos. I really do wish other vloggers on RUclips use the same frame 60P rates because it feels as if you are actually there in real life than a 4K 30P video. Have you considered using an action camera like the new Sony HDR-300 to capture more wide angle shots of your surrounding scenery? That would be fantastic.
I'm not personally a big fan of action cams to be honest. I prefer a more realistic view for the type of stuff we shoot. But I agree, that 60fps is crazy nice looking. -E

Btw, 白い恋人 implies Snow Fairy. When it started snowing in Hokkaido, the founder of the sweets company said, “白い恋人達 are coming down to us.” That story is behind the name. In some cases, Japanese brand names sound romantic but do not make sense :) Anyway, 白い恋人 is an iconic souvenir for Hokkaido travelers.
カニカマ： カニ(club)+カマ(shortened word of カマボコ made of white fish meat). カニカマ is a club flavored カマボコ. So, it’s not plastic, but not a real club meat either.

Dude I had the zenzai three times in Fukuoka, red beans and mochi are ace. That yellow thing was pickled radish, interesting that put that on top. My Fukuoka friend said the pickle is eaten after you finish the zenzai, so you get rid of that sweet after taste. That green relish thing must be a Hokkaido style double the pickle intensity, clean your mouth before and after!

You guys said you were freezing several times. Am headed there in winter too and would like to know what do you wear underneath what looks like down jackets?
We just had layers of clothes on. We don't often visit areas this cold, so we don't own "proper" cold-climate clothing, we aren't really the people to ask for advise on it. hahahahaha. -E

Tks for the vid. I was there this year for the new year 'celebration' but it's a mistake cos in Hokkaido there's no fireworks or parties and the locals go to temples instead! Big disappointment. But the next few days there was great! The daily snow , onsen, food and Otaru was great too! Fortunately it didn't rain in January. :))) can see you guys having a good time it's great!

Kyde and Eric I actually did. I was in Tokyo for a big chunk of February and managed to catch a whole bunch of bands. It was awesome, Japan has such a good DIY scene.

The food on this trip looked soooo good.. Hot ramen in he cold, hot soup, curry.. LOVE IT.. That little barbecue looked so good..
