    About your oolong tea, you need to first soak it in a bit of hot water for a few seconds than dump this "first brew" off, it washes away the dust and other not so good things off, than start brewing your full cup of tea. Next don't soak the tea leaves too long, as too much theophylline starts to come out and that ruin the taste a bit.
    You can keep your brew of tea in refrigerator over night, but never with the tea leaves still in it. You'll get stomach ache if you do.

    Hey Eric! I noticed at 22:25 that you have a tattoo... Have you had any problem with it while living in Japan? I mean, since I hear so much about how since tattoo=Yakuza affiliation that some places may tell you to leave (mostly Onsen)... Have you had any trouble with it? I'm moving to Japan in November for college, and have been holding out on getting a tattoo (a memorial tattoo for a teacher I had who passed away) because of some stories I've heard. Anyways, love your videos!

    Just a small question. Are Japanese fastfood like coco, Yoshinoya and even Izakaya paid first or after meal bill at the cashier(does small Izakaya even have a cashier)? I will be going to Japan soon. Sorry I worry about small silly things sometime.

    • @kydeanderic
      @kydeanderic  10 лет назад

      ken j yue It depends on the place you go into. It's easy to tell though, usually if a place has a ticket machine you pay first (buy your meal ticket from the machine) and if not you pay afterwards. Often they will give you a little plastic clipboard with the bill on it. Otherwise you just stand up and they usher you to the cash register. Oh, remember: NEVER EVER leave a tip. Ever. -Eric

    I think Japanese people only eat bread as an alternative to Japanese staple foods like Miso soup and onigiri, that's why its so expensive. Also the chicken with the hat is part of the Rilakuma range, it is called Kiiroitori.

    • @kydeanderic
      @kydeanderic  10 лет назад

      It depends a lot on where you work and what classes you teach. Some schools provide lesson plans, some ask you to make them. My school does a bit of both. Honestly, I can't give a straight answer because there just isn't one. -Eric

    This has become one of my fave videos since I've eaten at several of the places you guys did and it was great to see them again. The Coco Curry place is always a must hit for me and I discovered Yayoiken last year as they had one just outside my hotel in Asakusa. Totally agree with Kyde on the merits of tonkatsu as that's what I had there. One thing I wanted to ask you guys about is your food budget as you made frequent mentions of what you consider cheap or expensive. If you haven't made a video on this topic yet, can you do one where you talk about it. I'm assuming you guys combine your incomes from your jobs so I'm trying to compare it to how a single person like me would do a budget for Japan. Hope this doesn't sound like I'm trying to get to personal. Thanks again for the great video.

    • @kydeanderic

    Nice video! It brings back savoury memory (i.e. 7/11 and curry rice diet) during my days in Hong Kong before moving to the states. @ Eric - do you ever bring lunch to work since eating out daily will cost more to your food budget?

    • @kydeanderic
      @kydeanderic  9 лет назад

      dpurdue I don't remember what I ate for lunches in this video anymore, but my lunch usually fell while I was out and about and not during my work time, so often I would eat from 7/11s and the like. If I was home before work I eat curry rice or 100yen yakisoba packs. I should eat cheaper though, you are right. -Eric

    Hi Eric! Thank you for this video! If it is possible, can you please write a name and/or address of the Indian/Nepal restaurant? Love Indian food, but all the restaurants we know are super expensive:(

      Oh, that place certainly is not worth the trip out of Tokyo for. It's in the mall on the second floor in Musashi-Urawa, just next to the train station. But your best bet is to hit up Indian places at lunch time, they often have really good lunch specials for good prices! Seems to be something they do everywhere in the country. -E

    Watching your vlog makes me remind of my trip to Tokyo two years ago. Although food in Taipei, Taiwan (my hometown) is great, I still can't seem to forget the taste of that in Japan. Authenticity I guess, cause ramen in Taipei still tastes different than ramen in Japan. All the best, can't wait for the next video!

    Hey guys! :) First off, you guys seem very cool and your videos are very openhearted. Eric I just wanted to say, that I learned in IB Sports Science and Nutrition that eating the same foods everyday sort of trains your body to not absorb as much of its nutrients after a while! Scary stuff :o Please be aware of this, both of you guys!! Thank you for reading it!!

    Awesome vlog Eric. We have so much in common. I also had the Avocado and cheese chips when I was in Tokyo, it was very good. I also have had Calpis. I also love mango lassi and milk tea. When I was in a Tokyo I tried several types. Yes, some are pretty bad. I tried the ones at 7-11 that were like 25 yen and it tasted like water. Soba noodles are my all time fav! Buckwheat for the win! I eat my Somen noodles cold with Memmi which is like soy sauce. We put ice cubes in it on hot days. I love Indian food too. I feel you are so lucky to eat all that good food. But I will be back in Japan for 10 days starting in December so I'm looking forward to it.

    I feel better about my diet now Eric. Although we do eat similarly, I have more iced green tea than Calpis nowdaways...:) Wish we had that burger place in Taiwan. But we do have Super Dry at Yoshinoya now. Interesting stuff, watching your vid makes me realise how similar Taiwan and Japan really are.

    Hi Eric - It's CoCo Ichibanya! Love that place and I love putting a bunch of the "pickled stuffs" in my curry as well. Happy eating! Do you every go to eat ramen? If you do, try Ichiran in Shibuya...so good and quite the experience with the stall dividers. I heard it's so women can slurp up the noodles and not feel embarrassed...those modest japanese :)
