zordon Responsible breeders are NOT the same as a backyard breeder at all. Responsible breeders WILL take the dog back if you are unable to care for it. Dogs from shelters can have unknown backgrounds health while from a responsible breeder you know all of that information. For example service dogs are best gotten from breeders due to the fact of the unknown background increased wash-out. Many if not almost all Service dog Organizations go through breeders for this reason. Or maybe they want a dog the would affect their allergies less. It definitely is not okay to shame people for where they get their dogs. When you shame people and push the bs line “adopt don’t shop” people are more likely not listen. Educate people on not buying from backyard breeders or pet stores (most are from puppy mills) instead of shaming them. Now cats are a different story, cats should be adopted not bought unless they are going to be a service animal.
zordon also most people are not equipped/ are capable of handling a dog that came from a bad situation like they were abused or were never socialized properly and now has aggression issues due to this. I piss off the people at my local live fish store. They have a huge problem with people stealing parts out of their products. They will not let you return the product if its missing a part. Even if you bought it an hour earlier. I open them right in front of them at the register before I pay for them. I'm never rude and I'm over the top nice when I do it.
Actually, cats are not pack animals, so another cat in the household can stress them out if they don't get on - if you are away, your cat may be better off being the only one, if you provide it with some stimulus, like food puzzles, place on a window and even a tv with channels for cats. And of course, they don't have to share your attention when you get back. I adopted two kittens from a shelter at the same time, but they were not from the same litter. I had to give one back because the other was bullying so much the timid one was a nervous wreck: she would meow constantly, which made my autistic son annoyed... I kept the bully because it wasn't afraid of the rather boisterous youngster (dog).
@@oakstrong1 You just had two that had clashing personalities. Also, if they didn't know each other they may have done better if introduced slowly. I do understand where you are coming from, though, especially having an autistic son who was being affected by the kitty rivalry. However, domestic cats (most of them anyway) actually fare better if they have at least one other cat for company. Even street cats are known to form families, the females often raising kittens together. They are like a pride of lions that way. There are exceptions and like people, not everyone will be best friends, but cats do get lonely and can have separation anxiety if left home alone for long periods of time. Cats are individuals but can also form extremely strong bonds. Food puzzles, a place by the window, and cat tv are all great though! So is adopting. You can even find exotic breeds if you really look, but I think going by personality and connection is best, myself. I've done rescue work for years, focusing on behavior. =^.^=
I had 3 cats that were best buddies. They never fought, and only 2 of them were related. They'd sleep in cat piles together in a doggy bed I got them. The unrelated one was 5 years older than the other two. (Sadly, she's the only cat I still have today, at the grand old age of 19. She missed her "brothers" deeply.)
Mark B ... one could always do as I did.... sit on the floor of the play room at the shelter, placed my open purse on the floor next to me, and start reading a book. One sweet white kitty sporting brownish grey earmuff markings walked up and climbed into my purse!!
If you want a pedigree kitten then find a local breeder, go visit them and ALWAYS see the kitten with its mother. A proper breeder will be happy to show you. If you want a non-pedigree then go to your local shelter. Again, they won't mind showing you.
Actually in some cases it's normal to ship pets. But that's mainly for reptiles and amphibians. Though it's still not unheard of to ship dogs/cats. My grandpa breeds dogs and he has had to ship them out to people before. But still, if a company says they'll ship cats/dogs. Please make sure to contact them first and get as much information about the place as you can. :)

The only thing more horrific than this scam is if they really shipped cats. This really happens in China and it’s horrible. A few months ago, a shipment was found with hundreds of dead cats. LOVE YOUR DETECTIVE SKILLS!
Like many people these days, I've been spending lots of time on RUclips and came across your channel. Thank you for advising people to adopt, not shop. Another thing is, if someone wants a specific breed, do a lot of research as to their care and needs. A lot of Bengal cats are high maintenance, some people find them hard to handle. This goes for any animal. TY
sadly (not for cats) these days shelters often have a severe shortage of cats, as with covid the rate of adoption has soared. So people have to look further afield to find a pet. It may take weeks or months of searching and calling shelters in an ever wider area until you get lucky. And many people will fall for traps like this that seem to be offering a quick solution.
THere are breeders who are losing out because of these scams. People become leary of dealing with people who ask for money up front and you often are required to make a deposit.
My late mother got a kitten from the local Humane Society. She named him Felix because "Felix" is Latin and it means "happy." He was very happy with her. After she died, I got him. He passed away last year at the age of 18 years old. I miss him dearly. 😿🐈
Worse than a person losing money to scammers (for something like tech support or social security scammers, etc) is when someone sends a load of money believing that in a few days they will be caring for an animal. Heart breaking x 2 (or more).
@@sarahberkner yeah true, but i would imagine the scammers would make it so that the person being scammed believes that the animal will be reserved for them to drive to and collect, or delivered by a breeder in a vehicle that is made for transporting animals who delivers humanely. lol, i don't think anyone is expecting a UPS shipment with a pet in it :D :D
Bless you for providing a safe haven for your feline master, and for having an open & loving heart that he could sense. Being chosen by a cat is one of the most precious gifts we humans can receive.
I got mine from the window washer. Only paid for the cost of his first set of vaccinations. We named him Dimitri after the window washer. He's a wonderful cat, but he doesn't do windows😅
I found one of my cats running around a parking lot and almost getting hit by a van. The vet said he was 4 months old at the time. He's 12 years old now. Great cat. I think he's a Turkish Angora. He's white. And all my other cats came to me at my back door, wanting me to take care of them. Never purchased a cat.
Same!! Our first cat just walked through my door and sat on my dog's pillow (with the dog still there!) The dog and I knew she was crazy enough to be that bold and we kept her🤣🤣 She gave us kittens and we kept them all. She's fixed now, but we still feed anything with fur and big eyes (raccoons and possums included)
Oh, my! When I saw this I thought it would be a joke! But there really are pet scammers. Crazy! We always adopt rescue pets from our shelter or from dog rescues. Best pups ever!
I used to work with a neonatal kitten rescue, and it makes me sad that not only do people fall for scams like this but that adopting from local rescues is often seen as a "last resort".
rescues make it so difficult to adopt. I wasnt allowed to adopt a pair of cats because I live on a 12 acre farm. We never mentioned if they were going to be indoor/outdoor or a mix. They heard farm and said no. And so many times trying to adopt a puppy and being turned down because we dont have a 6ft fence. Its 12 ACRES! Im not fencing it! Not to mention when I have to explain that our equine vet does out pet vaccinations too. And this wasnt just one rescue. This was 5. 2 of which I had previously adopted from with no problem!
@@Polopony20. Yeah, I get it. I've been on both sides of the adoption issue. I had a hard time getting a cat for a while because I was a younger person living in an apartment and that turned a lot of rescues off. They usually are just trying their best to make sure the animals go to good homes because unfortunately they do see a lot of animals get returned or they turn up again after being dumped when the person gets tired of them. So if they have a harsh vetting process its supposed to be in the animal's best interest, but sometimes it definitely goes too far and eliminates potential good adopters. Smaller rescues are especially selective. I did eventually adopt my cat from an animal shelter that worked directly with the county. Because of the high volume of animals coming in they couldn't afford to be as selective.
I've seen live chicken being shipped in my local post office. Adopting an animal from a shelter or the street is a wonderful feeling, you can provide a world of happiness to a little angel that otherwise wouldn't have a chance.
Thanks so much for your video. I live in SW FL, and I'm currently trying to adopt a couple of ragdoll kittens. Of the dozen or so breeders in FL, there is only ONE that I am sort of comfortable dealing with. If a breeder/cattery won't freely answer your questions or provide additional information about the cats, mark them OFF your list.
I have wanted a specific breed of dog since I was 9 years old after doing a report on WWII Italy. The Cane Corso almost went extinct. After raising 7 children and getting our youngest to her senior year in high school I started the full court press on my husband for my dream dog. I spent 18 months researching breeders, calling all over the world and hitting every web page I could find. I was so disheartened and disgusted by the number of pet scammers out there. It’s soooo gross!!!! Finally after waiting 40 years for this dog, I picked him up New Years Day 2017. The lengths I went to were borderline crazy and my husband will never know how much I paid for him, but he brings me joy every single day, and that is the part these scammers prey on.
There have been animal shipping scams for the past 40 years at least. Whether it be people claiming they will ship an animal (dog, cat, etc.), or asking a seller to ship an animal. My family has farms and does animal husbandry of many different animals; and, even my grandmother dealt with animal mailing scams. What hurts is, we know how to recognize these scams and many others do not. So, when someone like you makes a video about this, I am thankful that more people learn about these scams
Yeah. Six decades in linguistics and this kind of seriously poor ESL training is like sending up flares. I see that kind of stuff, I reply in Tok Pisin. ;-)
It's because the person's first language is not english. It's obvious to me they cannot speak or write english very well, which could be a clue they are in another country. There is absolutely no shame over how far along someone is in learning additional languages. However, there is very much shame in being a liar and a scammer. Especially when using innocent animals as part of the scam and "shipping" them like inanimate objects. 🤨
I can understand that feeling. I mean you shouldn't have to. The fact that a lot of these scams might write Nigeria off as a country where you don't ship to anymore, however it doesn't mean we should ever discredit Nigerians as people I'm sure the vast majority of Nigerian people are just like everyone else. The scammers from Nigeria are obviously only a small part of Nigerian people too. Hopefully your economy starts kicking off a bit too, so people don't feel like scamming is the only option too
I genuinely feel bad that it's come to this. Scamming isn't done for personal gain usually, it's just done so that they can LIVE. I wish that the African economy could catch on so that people wouldn't have to do this.
My cat was found sick on the streets as a kitten. Somebody was selling her after giving her treatment and she is really cuddly. Edit: Since you are asking, unfortunately she went missing last year before a birthday and there are no signs of her. No footprints in the snow. Her last sighting that we know of was during the summer, she was muddy but fine and wasn’t hungry.
Poor thing, glad u gave her a loving home! She may have become ill from those CHEAP FLEA meds, such as collars, drops ect. Cheap brands are very TOXIC and cats can die a horrific death by poisoning. We just drove to a small town a fair distance from here, because we had trouble finding kittens that didn't come with a load of invasive nonsense...and came home with two beautiful three month-old kittens. I'm glad I noticed this video just now...perfect timing. The very idea of buying an animal without meeting it first seems insane...and selling animals to people you know absolutely nothing about is worse. There are a lot of people who shouldn't be allowed near animals--my father was one of them. The last cat he had, after my father had abused him one time too many, went into my parents' bedroom, climbed into the bed, and took a dump on my father's side. Tell me cats can't be vengeful! Anyway, I'm glad you're looking at this stuff--the sooner the scam is known to the world, the better. Keep up the good work!
I now have 10 cats at my home. I owned one cat 17. I had a stray male cat show up on my front porch. I started feeding him. A female cat started eating off the porch as well. I didn't realize I was feeding her at first. But I started catching glimpses of her. They mated and she had three kittens. I decided I would love to have one of the kittens, as my cat is seventeen. Neighborhood dogs started chasing the kittens. So I caught all three and put them in the house. I couldn't keep mommas cat out of or in the house she was too fast. She got pregnant again before she slowed down enough for me to keep her in. She just had a litter of four in March. I am working towards getting all the bigger feral born cats fixed. I plan on giving away the new kittens when they are old enough.
This has quickly been added into the "wait....people don't know this" file in my brain. It's in there with the fact that brits are technically wrong when they insist the sport is called football. Lol
@@Minion-sp7oc Technically, the sport is called Association Football and Soccer was an abbreviation/slang term for association. Referring to it as Soccer is older than Football. There was a classism arguement attached to the name change. I can't remember if it was the working class that thought Soccer was too snooty or if it was the upper classes that thought Football was beneath them. Ultimately, the slang term for the sport switched to football. However, the Brits intoduced it to the U.S as Soccer, and now they get annoyed because we didn't change its name when they did lol.

@@fionazelmann7541 You're sort of damned if you do and damned if you don't and there isn't some magical breed that can escape all illness or health problems. But adopting helps lower the population of pets on the chopping block. Or get a stray. That's been pretty much every single dog my family has owned, a stray dodging cars on the highway, or abanoned by the last owners of a home (seriously, found an adorable puppy that way, he looked like a black and gray version of the Pokemon Zigzagoon, lol) and even a little pup with mange someone had tied into a plastic bag and was planning to chuck in the dumpster had a family friend not intercepted and brought him to us. There's enough pets out there that need our help that we truly do not *need* to breed any more for a long while, so sterilizing should be more of a focus for most pets. I of course can't stop you from buying your next pet, but it saddens me to hear that you're doing so. My mom did the same thing for her dog, and then turned out the mixed breed she thought she'd paid for wasn't actually the mix she got 🤦🏾♀️.

Thank you for plugging local shelters! The adoptions aren’t free, but the money goes to helping more cats. If you want a specific look be prepared to wait. & it's usually better to have 2 cats instead of just one.
@@diannt9583 I have 4 cats, and two are sons of my girl cat! The 4th is my lovely grouchy orange tabby :)
Mark B ... one could always do as I did.... sit on the floor of the play room at the shelter, placed my open purse on the floor next to me, and start reading a book.
NEVER buy from a person who says they will ship pets x
Actually in some cases it's normal to ship pets. But that's mainly for reptiles and amphibians. Though it's still not unheard of to ship dogs/cats. TY
Maybe your local shelter would be the best place to find a pet!!
This. Thank you. I will ALWAYS adopt my pets..... I mean my new children........cough, cough..... pets.
sadly (not for cats) these days shelters often have a severe shortage of cats, as with covid the rate of adoption has soared.

However, if they don't have any qualms about a kitten being shipped to them it might be best that they won't be taking care of an animal yet.

I'm glad I noticed this video just now...perfect timing. The very idea of buying an animal without meeting it first seems insane...and selling animals to people you know absolutely nothing about is worse.
