The greatest danger at the steps on Black Bear Pass comes from trying to stay farther passenger (right) than is necessary. The turquoise Jeep demonstrated well how staying too far right (panicking about the visual of the valley below instead of the trail in front of you) will kick your Jeep left towards the drop off. The grey and silver Jeeps stay farther driver (left) and roll down without and kick to the left.
Came here after your comment on one of my wheeling videos. Just wanted to say "Great editing job from someone that understands the time involved to share our passion for the hobby we love. Keep it up, you're doing awesome!"
I did some Moab videos. I learned after the first one to take more shorter length videos and edit them together instead of ling videos and cutting them up more.
Exactly! I had 8-10 minute videos to go through and it kind of sucked lol. Sure, I'll definitely check out your Moab videos. I did Hells Revenge and Fins n Things in our 2012 Grand Cherokee. It made it pretty interesting lol.
My biggest tip for Telluride is to take the free gondola 🚠 ride up to the resort. Most miss out on this opportunity. Plenty of different style restaurants in town to choose from. You can go wrong.
Now that was enjoyable to watch (and I've seen a hundred plus BB Pass videos), nice job with the video quality and music. What was you gimble and camera?
Thanks for the kind words! 👍🏼 I try my best to capture the experience with the equipment I have. The gimbal is a Zhiyun Smooth 4 and the Camera was a iPhone 11 Pro set to 1080p 120fps. (Currently have iPhone 12 Pro now) I use a old Mac to edit the videos and it will not work with 4K so I don’t currently record in 4K. I hope to try 4K in the future but it will need to wait.
@@AdventureAwaits4u that would be cool. Very nice group of jeeps. I'll be in Moab the week of Easter (week after EJS). Other than that, most of my wheeling takes place at Redbird SRA

@@AdventureAwaits4u genuinely appreciate that! When the weather comes around again I will take you up on it. Thanks for making great videos. I want to do a Colorado trip too /black bear pass, but April isn't the time for that so ill have to make a separate trip out. 👍

I don't think so and it would be very risky to try. The three or more point turns would probably cause you to jackknife. I'm pretty sure they don't allow trailers but i could be wrong. Great video! Looking forward to finally doing this trail during a planned summer trip there in August. That Mercedes does not belong on that trail, lol.
Thanks Bird Dog! Enjoy the view! It’s one of the best for sure. Good chance our Indiana crew will be out there again in August. Maybe we will see each other. 👍🏼
@Bird Dog Overland Wow. Sounds like the same time. Some of the group will be doing the Rubicon Trail August 12-15th and then meeting up in Ouray after that with the rest of the group. So it looks like we would be there at the same time! 😊👍🏼 Is that the weekend for the big Toyota Ouray meet?
He was fine but his better half was not liking the exposure so he was trying to help by hugging the inside. There were several vehicles that had the road give away during our time out there so the safest line was inside.
Wow. Thank you for the exceptional video. Another Hoosier here. I really appreciated hand holding the camera with a gimbal and walking much of the video footage. It gave a great perspective of the terrain people drive on. Unfortunately, it is so difficult to really appreciate the steepness because wide angle lenses obscure it, but the walking footage works better to showcase the rugged terrain. At first I was impressed the Mercedes GLK made it, then saw the blown out (street) tires and oil pan caption. That sucks, but the driver should have heeded the warnings and known better. The worst part of it is the spilled oil polluting the ground. The huge inconvenience for the driver to have it towed out is just that - inconvenient. The Tellurde Outside safari(?) truck was interesting. It appeared to be just a short wheelbase Silverado chassis with a safari bed attached. What more remarkable is its "normal" street truck tires - no necessarily off-road or mud terrain tires - on steelies. Do they even have locking differential(s), or just open ones? Regardless, I'm impressed with its capability, although a good portion of this is the driver.
Thanks Melvin and it's nice talking to another Hoosier. I walked a lot on this trip and my legs let me know it. 😂 You are totally right about the video not showing the steepness of the terrain. Being at that elevation my lungs let me know it too! The Safari style truck did great. These trails are not difficult but they are scary to some and they require good ground clearance and four wheel drive. I don't know if he has locking diffs but I guessing he would have a rear LSD at a minimum. Doesn't hurt that the driver of the truck knows the terrain and the truck like the back of his hand.
I was told a local tow service removed it from the trail. Another silver Mercedes that looked like the black one suffered the same fate a week or two later.
Yes, it's only safe to travel on about 3 months of the year. Due to the high elevation it is covered in snow almost year round, and obviously no one plows it haha.
@@gungfuriceboy yeah, really experienced hikers. You can drive down the million dollar highway and pull off, and hike in. Really dangerous though, weather up there changes rapidly. Thanks for the kind words Bill. You hear a lot about the steps on Black Bear but if you square up like you would on any step it’s no problem.
It's so weird to see Telluride without Snow!!!!
I would love to see it with snow ❄️ one day. It would be nice to go snowboarding there.
Such a beautiful place to see. Sadly, it would be difficult to drive that with poop in my pants.
