Man, thank goodness for RUclips and podcasts! Back in the late 1900’s, telling my age, you had to know someone who knew something in order to get the information that is being seen by thousands now on these platforms!
We were told that the broadheads just shot different than your field tips, typically high and right, so you just re-sighted in your bow to your broadheads when it got close to season. Sure wish we had known better! So thank you for providing this resource of knowledge. I’m really enjoying both of your guy’s channels and the wood stove conversations!

One of the most comprehensive broadhead tuning videos out there. Thank you.
Been going through all this again over the last few weeks getting ready for this season and had to cycle through about 6 other videos from other RUclipsrs to get all the info that y’all put in this one. Also had to sift through a couple other videos that have the horizontal rest adjustment backwards.
The method you described is absolutely correct. If someone has to do the exact opposite, go back to square 1, something’s up with that setup. Timing out, wrong arrow spine, etc.
Question: do you like the high roller target? I need to replace my 18-1 (no complaints on it) but have been looking at the high roller. Specifically for broad heads.

Nice video! Also guys, keep in mind there’s always the factor of human error. I know the goal is to make them hit exactly the same every time you shoot but it’s difficult to do that constantly without having some flyers right.
I’d say start fresh (rest) after doing this excersice for a long time and then try again, then when you think you got it right, rest again and try it the next day to see if your first two shots (arrows) are touching, this is when I’d call it good.

I haven’t seen a pro shop with even half of the knowledge Josh has in over 20 years. Nobody seems to care enough about their job, and your equipment to take any of the proper tuning steps. They take a bow out of the box, slap accessories on, tie a peep and d loop, and send you on your way. The only way we can get the most out of our equipment, is to either buy the press and draw board and do our own work, or drive to Washington and ask for MFJJ. Lol
It’s sad and frustrating, but we all need to learn to work on our own bows

Did what he said in this video and my BH and FP touch. But it makes my paper tune off. Can't have both a great paper tune and BH tune on my bow for some reason...probably just me. So I'm prioritizing the BH tune over the paper. Hopefully that pans out

I’m am confused on the order of operations… so I am going to assume the order goes something like this.. setup bow and eye everything to square.. then sight in enough to get on target at 20-30 yards.. then broadhead tune followed up by 1st/2nd/3rd axis shoot in adjustments? Also should you try this with multiple broadheads and what broadheads are recommended for tuning if you plan to shoot mechanicals with smaller vanes. I’m just not sure my smaller vanes will stabilize a fixed blade to begin with.

I’ve learned over the years that it is better to work on this more than ONE shooting session. We all have better days than others so a few different day sessions will usually give you a better feedback. That’s obvious. And people don’t shoot their broad head’s enough for whatever reason. Buy more than one pack and shoot them. Things change and it’s vitally important to know that throughout the season your arrows are hitting BEHIND THE PIN!

  • @drewolm

Good stuff man. I generally don’t have an issue getting B heads to hit with field points until I start to really stretch the yardage. That said, I’ve wondered at the process of bare shaft tuning and fletched arrow tuning through paper and then throwing that out the window for broadhead tuning.
If I couldn’t get heads to fly with field points even though my bow was shooting bullets through paper, I would just use a different sight for broadheads. Anyways, who cares, I’m not a RUclipsr.
Good to see the joint custody of MFJJ is working out.

MFJJ If you took a bow that was tuned and shooting arrows with broadheads and practice tips in the same spot, then slightly moved the rest to the right and shot you would see the target tips hitting slightly right and broadheads hitting even farther right. You would not move the rest to the right to correct. It needs to move back to the left. Please explain.

  • @IN_Bowhunter

One must consider the abilities of the archer when broadhead tuning. You can’t just pick the one time someone hits the same hole and make your adjustment based on that one instance. For 90%+ archers, being within an inch of one another would be close enough as they’re likely not consistently capable of a group much smaller than that.

Also, if I were to dedicate my bow to only hunting, could I just tune to the broad heads only and not worry about field points? From what I could gather, you were tuning for a happy medium between the two? I've been watching a few of your videos, and they've been quite helpful, cheers!

Help! BH are constantly hitting to the right of the FTs and will not correct. Am I underspined as stated by MFJJ?
Matthews phase 4. 31 inch draw, 75 pound mods, 250 spine victory TKO’s, hundred grain iron Will broadhead.
OK here’s my question. Do my field tips have to hit where my broad heads are hitting? Why don’t I tune everything for the broad heads to be perfect for hunting and leave the field tips in the garage for next season‘s TAC.
