  • Even though I just arrived at Boat Bluff, now they are taking me off Boat Bluff to head into head office for some Training. Just like going back to school again. Training is for 12 days but unfortunately I missed 2 due to weather.

I've transited the inside passage and back 4 times and boat bluff is one of the most scenic places.

Without you my introduction to Lighthouse living would not have been so comfortable. Thank you again for your hospitality.

the mental heal;th thing made sense to me because I mentioned this isnt a previous video where you just switched t oa new Lighthouse and mentioned 70% rain which means much less diorect sunlight which effects many people with SAD then also adding in the isolation could be very devastating to some people, myself I am pretty sure it wouldn't be too bad I always find things to do and enjoy all nature ,I am curious and this is off-topic, do you pay food your own food?

I don't mind the rain myself and find I am quite busy rain or shine. There is too much to do to get depressed I think. haha.
Yes, you pay for your own food and clothing aside from work clothes. You also pay for anything you decide to buy on Amazon!

Hi Spence, glad you're well. Could you expand a little on what your threes days on "weather" involved?

I will be doing a whole video dedicated to weather soon but have not been able to put it together yet, unfortunately.
There are several parts involved when it comes to weather, Sky condition which is cloud cover and things like visibility, rain, snow and what not, Wind condition which is mainly speed and direction but can include things like gusts, squalls, and other wind type of things, Sea Condition which is waves, how big and types of waves and then you have Temperature which includes highs, lows, and dew points.
You wouldn't think there is too much that goes into weather but it is quite impressive the amount of things you need to know to report weather conditions properly.

If you follow this link you can see all the current weather reports by Lightstations in BC and there is even a small tutorial on how to read these reports.

@@BCLighthouseKeeper That's awesome! Thanks for the link! I'm looking forward to your next video whatever it may be about. -I have a little bit of experience reading weather because I have my advanced drone operation licence, but I am interested in what is required of a keepers' forecasting. Thanks again, keep in touch! M

Aviation weather is even more in depth than what we have to do. We do all our reporting in SA where aviation weather is done in METAR but it is not too hard to translate. I am pretty glad we don't have to do full aviation style weather as that is at least every hour and there are a lot more rules regarding reports. That is a full time job itself, let alone having to worry about a station and everything else at the same time.

@@BCLighthouseKeeper I just took a look at the link and the nomenclature used for forecasting, it's very intuitive (the way i should be) Thanks for keeping in touch and answering all of my questions. M
