@gunzor8717 A few days earlier I've played versus a player with 22,000+ games in 2,5 years and he has still 1100 elo. like a 2 years ago. His highest Elo was 1170. I think need really want to do your best each time instead of just spending time playing chess.
This is really nice. Congrats! Im 31 years old and just picked up chess 3,5 years ago. Started at a chess club almost a year ago and started competitions as well. Now i have a 1660 OTB rating. It will fall a bit since ive had a really bad tournament this month. But anyways, hoping to hit 1800 in a year or 2. I think in addition to your tips, besides doing puzzles, going to a club and starting classical chess has been the biggest change for me to improve. I improved my online rating from 1300 to 1700 in a year at the club, and got my official rating as well. Also gothamchess has some great courses, really recommend as well.
That's honestly mindblowing how you crossed 2100. I have a friend who has been playing chess for 8 years and is still only at 2350 online, 1800ish FIDE (not to say he isn't a great player) but to reach close to that in just 2 years is something you should be very proud of! I started playing chess late feb this year and suddenly I see a vudeo that a person got 2000 in 2 years motivates me a lot.... I love chess as a hobby and although I don't see myself becoming a chess professional I will still continue playing it.... I am 650 ELO after a month of playing and I have hopes to cross 1500 this year, good luck for your future and I am sure you'll achieve WCM and even WFM. You really motivated me to put in extra effort and I can't stress enough how amazing it is reaching 2000 in just 2 years!
Thank you for your kind words and 1800 FIDE is impressive in it of itself, so props to your friend! It took me 2 months to get to 700 so you are well on track to reaching your goal. I'm so glad that I've motivated you to keep on pushing because that is ultimately my goal for making this video. I want to inspire others and show that you can do it if you set your mind to it.
2100 is nice, I'm 2150 and go between 2050-2150 since I play off and on casually. But 2350 is much higher than you think, it becomes insanely competitive after 2100 on chesscom , on lichess I made it to 2250 on rapid, and on no time control have ever been above 2300 (besides a provisional rating after new account and winning 7-10 games in a row, but that doesn't count) after 20,000 games even I haven't reached that. I've seen some players with 100,000 games that are still under 2000 online too. I've been playing my whole life and not necessarily always super competitively, but I've had a couple years where I put more effort into it than other years. Anyhow, you get a lot of titled players at 2300+ on most ratings, so it's actually a really big deal, to me at least. A lot of players can play their whole life and never get above 2300, let alone 2000. Even some club chess players IRL never make it above 1400 in 50-60 years (I've seen and played them in OTB before). I feel like a 2300 player is someone who dedicates a huge majority of their life to chess, reading tons of books, maybe taking lessons, or have almost nothing but chess on their mind always lol Although 1800 OTB is kinda lower and they might be underrated a bit or just really good at online chess, cuz I'm also 1800 OTB , or just live in a very competitive place for chess and hard to get rating IRL, or they are a bit inactive. Online is way easier than OTB up to a point, like you could get to 2000 online if you apply yourself a bit, but it takes a lot more work IRL to get 2000 plus. I feel I could get to 2000 Fide IRL before I get to 2350 Online though, if I played in real life more, haven't done OTB for a few years though >.
@@williamwallace4080 I see, I thought 2100 to 2350 would be similar to 1800 to 2000/2100. I guess if it gets quite competitive then yeah it makes sense that he's at 2350
@@phen-themoogle7651 Yeah, he hasn't played a lot of chess lately as he got tired of it and his last OTB competition was 7-8 months ago so he could reach 2000 if he played more often but at some point anyone will get a bit tired of the same thing especially as chess is very challenging mentally. He has said he'll eventually come back this year, so let's see.
In my case I took many long breaks accompanied with bad habits playing blitz and bullet but eventually got to 2000 took me 8 years 😂. I hope you keep playing goodluck on your journey ❤.
Thank you! I also have a bad habit of playing blitz/bullet, but now I don't play as much online and instead focus on studying openings and strategy. Congrats on 2000!
@@aviansnow If I could go back, I would have focused on mastering fundamentals so that I wouldn't have any gaps in my knowledge. For example, I never really studied endgames and have found myself overly relying on intuition rather than calculation.
@@aviansnow Play longer time controls so that you have more time to practice what you learned from videos or books. Always pay attention to your opponent's last move and train your tactics before studying positional chess, knowing the concept of good knight vs bad bishop is useless when you hang mate in 1 or hang a piece by a double attack. When I play blitz these days I do it when I study openings only. Hide your rating when playing, you shouldn't play chess for the rating, play because you enjoy it. Hope that helps✌️
That’s so damn impressive. Been playing chess for a big portion of my life (2350 FIDE) and never seen anyone pick up chess late and reach that level of play without any private lessons. Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed the video! I do have a few ideas for upcoming videos, but will consider that as an option as well. For me, one of the biggest differences is my ability to visualize the board. I find 2D pieces much easier to see and it helps that I can draw arrows to calculate.
2100 in 2 years is crazy. I myself have played for one year, my rating is 1700 online and 1516 otb. Just a little reminder, otb rating doesn't translate to online. It's usually a couple hundreds in difference, but good luck with your OTB journey
Well damn that's impressive, today I found out I once reached 1500 sometime in 2021, just realized I have been lazy stuck back at 1200, checking my old performance really motivated me and this video finally sealed it for me.
Depends how much you're willing to dedicate to the game. Also don't get flustered if information doesn't stick the first time around, it'll definitely get easier the more experience you acquire. Simply playing the game a ton and analyzing your games and truly understanding where you went wrong will by far be the most effective method to improving
Thank you so much! WGM is a great long-term goal to have, though I would also suggest smaller goals in between like 1600, 2000, etc. so that you can track your progress and feel rewarded when you break those milestones.
i have been playing for like 5 months and i am stuck at around 1300 maybe cause i never analyse any game after words i dont know what to learn, should i solve sum puzzle's maybe? i also wanna improve but at the same time i dont have time to anything other than just play. please give some tips
Yes, I would recommend doing a few puzzles as often as you can. It can doesn't have to be for a long time and can just be in between tasks. Analyzing games is super important because that's how you can see where you played well and where you went wrong. Chesscom and lichess have the opening explorer function where you can see how other players navigated your openings and learn from them. 1300 in 5 months is incredible, so keep going!!
Bro watch Daniel nordisky speedrun and understand how GM plays and understands chess it really helped me to reach 1850+ in just a month from 1550 so give it a try I bet you will easily cross 1500 ..learn any solid attacking opening and see his videos about that opening and use that same in every game for both black and white in chess it's all about memory so memorize all openings and understand the concepts which he teaches in speed run.. hoping for you to give me a tough competition..in some months best of luck
I made it to 2150 rapid before, I also plateaued at several stages including 2000 at one point or another. What I did was tactics (1000 more and breaking 3000 in puzzles helped me cuz I was neglecting them for a while and just playing too much), visualization training (I have a video where I did blindfold chess kinda too), playing strong computers, analyzing my games more in depth, OTB playing some masters or going in the advanced divisions/open divisions to play against stronger players, and just playing slower games with more calculation time. When I did too much blitz or bullet I wouldn't get better, fast chess will make it much harder for some people to get to the next level. Also trying to take notes on why you win or lose games could be useful to figure out what psychological aspects might be preventing you from moving forward (overestimating counter-play or taking intuitive risks without calculation , playing-too-fast, idk) , I definitely need to work on my patience and time-usage still, I rarely lose games on time nowadays since I choose too much but I do still have the bad habit of moving too quickly without crystal clear calculation on certain games (bad habit from blitz and bullet where I rely on intuition more)
This is incredibly insightful! I totally agree with tactics and visualization training which are two of my weakest areas. I’ve been trying to solve longer puzzles and forcing myself to calculate all the way which has helped.
Hi, I suggest you create a study schedule and fill in those slots where you have extra free time to play games or solve puzzles. Staying consistent is key and to boost motivation, you could set up goals to aim for.
Can’t believe I stumbled across this video. I played against you in the San Marcos chess tournament last year. 1.c4 e5 etc and I won with a crushing attack
I dont think there's an opening that just gets you past a certain elo. Go watch danya's speed run videos he plays a lot of different openings and he recommends openings for certain elos. I think the speed run he does this is the top theory speedrun nevertheless all the other speedruns are extremely educational😊
I start playing chess since 2021 to but I'm not kind of pushing myself to reach the 2000 so i play wathever i want and i likely surpassed the 1200 phase but i hit the wall so think i gotta study more and more if i wanna get better
Can you please tell me how to actually get the Fide rating. Ik i have to play otb tournaments but i have a doubt that can we actually go to the tournaments directly??
You would have to play specifically in FIDE rated events. This can be difficult as even though many major tournaments are FIDE-rated, it is only for the top sections
hey 😃i am watching daniel naroditsky video of endgame principal but for middle game should i watch the speed run video or something else .what you watched for middle game?(thanks for replying😁)
Yes, his speedruns are good for that. GothamChess also has a Win at Chess series where he plays players of all levels. It's helpful to see how good players navigate middlegames and convert them to winning endgames.
wow 2100 in 2 years , thats nice , i am currently at 1750-1800 i get confused of what to improve in general , is i my positional skills or tatics i started from june with 300 rating
Well done on such rapid progress! To answer your question, you can analyze some of your recent games and see if they resulted in one move tricks or a slow grind with lots of piece maneuvering.
I played sicilians and nimzo/queen's indian. I knew a good amount of theory through learning from chessable and playing, but definitely still have a lot to learn,
Hi, I mentioned the Manual of Chess Combinations toward the end of the video, which is the only book I’m actively working on. Previously, I’ve done some pages from the How to Reassess your Chess workbook, as well as opening books from Everyman Chess.
HI , i was playing good but suddenly playing very very bad and losing many games (I AM 900 RIGHT NOW,SOMETIME I PLAY GOOD LIKE MY ESTIMETED RATING GOES 1400 OR 1100 ) i want to become stronger player can you suggest something and how can i play good middle game.i want to get in competitive chess(I KNOW I AM SELFISH ASKED FOR MANYTHING BUT SUBSCRIBED ) (NEVER WRITTEN THIS MUCH LONG COMMENT !!)
Hi, thanks for your comment! I would suggest longer time controls and double or triple checking every move before playing it. Ask yourself what your opponent is trying to do, and if they have a threat that can be ignored. For middlegames in particular, it’s important to come up with a plan. This can be 3 moves or longer, but the goal should be to improve your position. For instance, consider rerouting your knight to a central square or doubling your rooks on open files if given the chance. Hope this helps
Congrats! That's impressive! How much time did you spend playing games/analyzing, is there anything in particular that helped you most, such as a course, video playlist, etc? I've gotten the chess bug and want to get there myself :)
Thank you! I try to spend an hour a day on chess and some of my favorite series on RUclips are Daniel Naroditsky's speedruns, Samay Raina's comedians on board vs top players, and GothamChess lessons with streamers like Northernlion. Anish Giri's courses are my favorite on chessable.
@@ItsMeVicky Lovely, I'll have to check them out. I think that I need to play more games since I'm mostly drilling tactics or taking lessons. Do you play one game every day and analyze it? I'm figuring out how to designate my hour (I also do an hour!)
@@ShaShaSha534 I actually don't play much online anymore, but I do think that playing is one of the best ways to practice. I spend a lot of time analyzing my own games as well as master games, then developing openings.
@@ItsMeVicky Ah, I see. Thank you. I really need to play more. I don't know why, but I find studying and training tactics more fun. Master games are really enjoyable- I read Logical Chess, Move by Move by Chernev with a mocha and a board :) some day, I will hopefully get where you are!
Thank you. It really depends as during the end of terms, I have exams that take up most of my time. Usually, I aim for 20 hours a week of chess-related activities

@@EdwinChetty-mm5xoTrue, his speedruns are the best - immensely instructional!
Blud have potential to Become WGM just only 15 months??? Got 1700 what a sick❤❤❤❤
I wonder what's your Chinese name.
Hey, great video, I really enjoyed it. I feel like I have plateaued at 2000, is there any tips for trying to reach 2100 from here?
Also trying to take notes on why you win or lose games could be useful to figure out what psychological aspects might be preventing you from moving forward (overestimating counter-play or taking intuitive risks without calculation , playing-too-fast, idk) , I definitely need to work on my patience and time-usage still, I rarely lose games on time nowadays since I choose too much but I do still have the bad habit of moving too quickly without crystal clear calculation on certain games (bad habit from blitz and bullet where I rely on intuition more)
@@phen-themoogle7651hey i just wanted to say, I really appreciate the effort you took to tell me all this stuff. Thank you so mich
This is incredibly insightful! I totally agree with tactics and visualization training which are two of my weakest areas. I’ve been trying to solve longer puzzles and forcing myself to calculate all the way which has helped.
Hello, i am a 1400-1500 player and i need help with my motivation and how i study, could you help me make time for chess and my studies please.
Hi, I suggest you create a study schedule and fill in those slots where you have extra free time to play games or solve puzzles. Staying consistent is key and to boost motivation, you could set up goals to aim for.
@@ItsMeVicky TYSM I will do it
She's so good in chess
Appreciate the effort❤❤❤
Good job 👏👏👏
Thank you! 😃
Can’t believe I stumbled across this video. I played against you in the San Marcos chess tournament last year. 1.c4 e5 etc and I won with a crushing attack
Ah yes I remember. That's insane that we both gained 200 elo since then, good luck on your chess journey!
@@ItsMeVicky thank you. Good luck this weekend. Looks like we both have a chance to win
Really cool, this is impresive,, are into "on board" tournaments? you could reach a FIDE title
Thanks and yes, I have been playing a lot more OTB tournaments recently:)
Great content. What openings do you recommend to hit 1500. I been playing a little while and am stuck in the 1300 Elo range.
I dont think there's an opening that just gets you past a certain elo.
Go watch danya's speed run videos he plays a lot of different openings and he recommends openings for certain elos.
I think the speed run he does this is the top theory speedrun nevertheless all the other speedruns are extremely educational😊
I would stick to solid openings like the Italian or queens gambit for white and caro-kann for black
What is that magic that’s beating a queen with a knight moving to straight squares forward 4:00 must be some chess witchcraft 😂
I start playing chess since 2021 to but I'm not kind of pushing myself to reach the 2000 so i play wathever i want and i likely surpassed the 1200 phase but i hit the wall so think i gotta study more and more if i wanna get better
Congratulations!!! I have a question, which time control did you play?
Thanks, I played 10+0
can we play?
Comment ld you tell us the books you read and your routine for this gring also congrats on 2100!
I went from 300 to 2000 in 10 months but i played like 6k games because I did not study so I had to play a lot
Watching some videos and reached 1200? That's kinda genius
hey 😃i am watching daniel naroditsky video of endgame principal but for middle game should i watch the speed run video or something else .what you watched for middle game?(thanks for replying😁)
Yes, his speedruns are good for that. GothamChess also has a Win at Chess series where he plays players of all levels. It's helpful to see how good players navigate middlegames and convert them to winning endgames.
Well done and thank you for sharing.😊
wow 2100 in 2 years , thats nice , i am currently at 1750-1800 i get confused of what to improve in general , is i my positional skills or tatics
i started from june with 300 rating
Well done on such rapid progress! To answer your question, you can analyze some of your recent games and see if they resulted in one move tricks or a slow grind with lots of piece maneuvering.
@@ItsMeVicky i see Thanks for the advice , i find that 2000 elo games are positional
Amazing Video!
Thank you!! 😄
What openings did you use? Also do you know all variations and theory?
I played sicilians and nimzo/queen's indian. I knew a good amount of theory through learning from chessable and playing, but definitely still have a lot to learn,
Black - sicilian defense
White - nimzo / queens indian attack?
Also free course or paid?
I have a mix of both, though I got a deal for all of Giri’s courses so now I’ve been slowly working my way through them.
Does learning opening helps you?
Yes, it’s very helpful because it allows me to feel comfortable in my position going into the middle game.
very good gaming experience, in a few years I hope you will be WCM, you can also create a channel for chess content.
Thank you, I plan on making more chess content!
Thanks for your video. You should also mention studying best chess books
Hi, I mentioned the Manual of Chess Combinations toward the end of the video, which is the only book I’m actively working on.
Previously, I’ve done some pages from the How to Reassess your Chess workbook, as well as opening books from Everyman Chess.
Hi! How many hours per day do you study and how much to you play and analyze? Great work!
Hi there, my schedule depends a lot on my week. I try to study every day, sometimes for longer sessions of 3+ hours and sometimes just a few puzzles.
I don't have the best memory, would my journey be the same?
That's very impressive!! Good luck in ur future endeavors!
Thank you! You too!
Hope this helps
just keep on studying ma'am & you needed a good coach, adviser & 2nd ma'am
like all the other chess masters
You had time
Remote chess academy is also good chess channel
Me the more i play the worst I got I went from 860 to 550....
Hi to you too. And congratulations!
good luck with your journey
Thank you :)
thanks
The key is become a asian first. 😂😂
Congratulations 👏
Thank you!! 🙌
playing chess for rating lol
did u read any chess book?
1 year 1700😭
Congrats, that's incredibly impressive! How many hours a week on average would you say you spent playing or studying chess?
Thank you. It really depends as during the end of terms, I have exams that take up most of my time. Usually, I aim for 20 hours a week of chess-related activities
@@ItsMeVicky Dang, doing that while balancing school must be tough. Good to know, I got similar aspirations for becoming a titled player but I want to finish graduating first to be able to commit time to it. It's nice to see that it's possible with enough hard work, best of luck on the journey!
Hopefully I can do this too. Ive gone from 500 to 2000 in 17 months. 7 months to reach 2100.
Amazing progress, you got this!!!
I am stuck at 500 from last 3 months😂
i am in the 1700-1800 and donno what to do to improve if u can pls give metips I wil highly appreciate it.
I would suggest studying the classics from renowned players like fischer, kasparov, carlsen, etc. Also, maintaining consistent with practice games and solving tactics is key. Good luck!
Last two years I went from 1700 to 1900. I thought it was good improvement, lol. 😂
Getting to 1900 is amazing progress, keep going!
Great content! Having played the game for over 15 years myself, I know how difficult it is to improve! Keep up the amazing work!
Thank you so much!
A grandmaster in the making
Hi, on what time control did you reach 2100?
I played 10+0
@@ItsMeVicky Thanks, I have a long way to go. But you're story inspired me.
Obviously thanks to Hans[the Goat🐐], the answer to the title..
Im 2040 rapid 16 months in
How old are you?
Reached 2200 in 2 years very similar progress. I want to make a video like this as well!
Wow that’s incredible, go for it!
I'm waiting for your vlog.
