    Another deserving channel is Drake lawn care. He works out of Atlanta. He’s just a guy who tries to make yards better for people. He has met with the code enforcement. Code gives him names of those that are about to be fined and Drake cleans up their yards. Really really good guy. He doesn’t have, much assets in his business, but such a big heart. I would appreciate anyone giving him a thumbs up by subscribing and hitting the like button. He is trying to raise money for a commercial lawnmower to help better.

      If hoarding runs in your family and you have ANY trauma that causes you to shut down (freeze & flee response) it may actually be impossible to not stay or not remain shut in. Often it becomes harder and harder to make yourself leave even to go shopping for necessities.

    As someone who is educated in interior design, the mention of using a painting or an item you love to base your colors off of is something that was taught to us. As far as not being "pros", I think you guys did a fantastic job! ❤🎉 (Side note, on the shelf in front of the breaker, in the future she can put casters on the bottom of it that can lock in place. So that way it'll give it a little bit extra height to hide the breaker and allow her to move it easily if she needs to get to it quickly😊)

    • @lauramitchell6725
      @lauramitchell6725 4 месяца назад +7

      Yeah,never cover the electric panel with something that can’t be moved quickly. A canvas from the thrift shop is a light weight cover up.

    • @sherragurman9959
      @sherragurman9959 3 месяца назад +3

      Yeah. This was my thought too about the shelving unit in front of the breaker box. If a breaker trips (which they often do in old homes) you don't want to have to move that thing in the dark (or even in the light when it's loaded with stuff) to get to the box.

    • @Dept_Of_Ducks
      @Dept_Of_Ducks Месяц назад

      If possible in the long run a picture would be good, because if she has a young kid, then tall shelving should be secured to the wall but that’s counterproductive to accessing the breaker-box.

It's real world, make it work, sanitize, make practical, low-cost repairs to give the people a clean, safe, useful space. We're cleaning out a hoarded house and preparing it for sale in a safe, but budget friendly neighborhood. So, when we get to the repairs and renovations we have to keep it basic. Otherwise, we'll never get the costs back out of the sale price. As far as this repair/paint video goes: Holy 'BLEEP!' what an amazing transformation!

    What this also does is it gives the homeowners time and space to think about what they want to do next. With the drywall patched and the kitchen spruced up with a paint job, they will be much less stressed and will be able to relax which means they will not be in "fight or flight" mode anymore. They'll be able to go take a step back and think about what they would like to do next if anything and then figure out how to get there.

    I love your advice about how to clean a hoarding situation by taking it 3 feet at a time. I am not an extreme hoarder but I do have some “craft room hoarding” tendencies. I have been watching your videos and it inspired me to get in there and deep clean my craft room. I did it just like you said, one area at a time. Sometimes that was a table. Sometimes it was a container. But by taking it one small area at a time, I never got overwhelmed and I was able to complete the task without reverting to my hoarding tendency of shoving it somewhere else and forgetting about it. Thank you for the inspiration.🎉

We lost our house in a tornado, and during the interim while we demolishing and rebuilding, I bought just enough things to get us by. A friend of a friend bought some beautiful little crystal glasses at a thrift shop and sent them to me. I cried so much when I unpacked that box because they weren't something I needed, they were just something pretty. Meeting needs are great, but pretty is needed, too, and I appreciate that about these makeovers.

    It's so satisfying to see these simple fixes done. I've often wished Hoarders would focus more on that sort of thing, rather than the interviews with the neighbor, the brother-in-law, the ex-wife, the postman etc. I just want to see the place cleaned up and repaired! There's a lawn care channel called Quick Cuts where he doesn't just cut grass, he hauls junk to the dump, fixes a sagging step, replaces a broken hinge on a gate and always, always neatly coils up the garden hose. I'll be watching a video and some detail will be bothering me and then he deals with it. It's such a relief. That's what I love about this channel too. Thank you!

With fleas in the wooden floor. Got to work on it. Cleaned the floor and the fleas hated me, showed their hate by biting me. Ungrateful fleas. Anyway, painted the walls and ceiling. It had a space heater in the nice tiled fireplace that was there. Hung a HUGE picture over it. Lovely Austrian white curtains for the 4 windows. Soft lights. Little hot plate. Just a few throw carpets for the floor. HOME! Cleaning & painting means you care. The landlord was impressed. Great work, as always! However, I do have one small issue. You should never cover up or block with furniture, a breaker box. It was a great idea to put a shelf there, but it should have been below the breaker box. The entire faceplate of the box can be removed by removing a few screws, you can then take it outside and use spray paint to make it match the wall or be a decorative feature. Inexpensive decals from the $ store can turn that breaker box into a piece of art, while still allowing easy emergency access. A fire extinguisher is also a great new accessory to add to any kitchen makeover.

It's great to see that it's not impossible to do some fixes and that there is hope and pride to be had in our homes even if it's not brand new 🥰 I'm inspired and empowered to try to tackle some problem areas around my house. Thank you! I might even try spin kicking something! 😂

    A coat of paint can hide a multitude of sins. I am in the process of repainting my house one room at a time and, you're right, the uplift in mood when you enter a clean freshly painted room is palpable. Btw, your drywall patch is quite good. Another great video!

    The whole thing is making do and making better. This mentality of ripping out and replacing with new all the time is not only vain but so wasteful. I can’t stand that sort of outlook or attitude. The transformation is incredible into a lovely, clean and liveable space. And how much better is a brand new kitchen over that anyway? It may look fancier but you’ll be in huge debt and for what? Watching that ceiling disappear under the white was incredibly satisfying! Amazing job again

      @@suewilkinson910 OMG yes! I live in AZ, which is basically a boom state and there has been an explosion in the number of houses being built (none of it affordable for average people, of course...). The new construction houses are absolute garbage. There was a local news segment a while back about how one of these homebuilder companies was cutting corners during the construction of a housing community, and the residents were subsequently saddled with leaky roofs, plumbing and electrical problems.
      I'm lucky to have a husband who has a lot of experience working in construction, electrical work, and maintenance. If we were ever to acquire a nice big patch of land with water and electricity, we would build a house ourselves and it would be 10x better than any of the new construction that is thrown together now.

    • @suewilkinson910
      @suewilkinson910 4 месяца назад

      @@tamaratamtammorris8151 Of course it would be 10 times better because you would be building with care and love and attention to detail. It's sill possible. In 2022 we had a local builder (lives in the same village) renovate and extend a small stone barn in our garden into a 1 bed beautiful home for my elderly mum. He did a wonderful job. The architect was pretty hopeless so we ignored him and built it in consultation with each other. He came up with so many innovative and wonderful ideas and his attention to detail was great. I loved every minute of the build and after a year of mum living in it the architect came round to check for snags. The issues the new builds are full of. He found 3 things. A cupboard door with a magnetic catch needed a second catch adding because it wasn't holding very well. A small 4" crack in the plaster along the edge of a window frame buried under the curtains and a sticky door latch. The magnets were added in moments. I didn't want the crack messing with because it can't be seen and if it were filled it probably would be seen and I'd have to find paint and paint it and it might stand out. And the sticky latch is a small error by the carpenter who made a mounting block a few millimetres short so the catch was rubbing on it's own stay. To fix that would ruin the catch and as it's not actually a problem, we left it.
      In a new build these days the snags can run to thousands of pounds and as you said, are very major.

      Yeah as long as the subfloor is level it works. It's not great if the subfloor is uneven, the people who owned our house before used that stuff and it has not stood up to traffic, the subfloor underneath is uneven so we will need to replace it. They also used it on the counter haha but that was replaced as soon as we moved in.

    When I first hired a realtor to sell my last home, the decorator picked a greige for us to paint. I like to paint, so I dove in. It was not my aesthetic, but I was ok with that. But it did not have any warmth, and did not look good at all with the wood, stone, or tile. The more paint I got on the walls, the more depressed I became. Ultimately I stopped, delayed the sale by 5 years, hired a new realtor, and the designer picked a super boring but warmer neutral for every wall in 4000 sf. Again, not my aesthetic but also not depressing. How color FEELS matters. ❤❤❤

      We live in the northern prairie of the US. I realized after one too many blizzards that cool-toned colors just make a house feel COLDER. Ice lived in the south for too long, where I favored dusty blue and a cool gray-ish green. Now I want warmer greens. :)

Someone younger with less experience would not quite understand the place many of these people end up mentally. As someone who went through years of thinking if I didn't get things done in one sweep, I wasn't doing it well enough. I went through years of severe depression because of it. Like someone in the comments here has already said, "Kuddos to the woman in this video who was able to clean despite the aftermath of the previous hoard and fire." Keep inspiring. :)
