My mom was a hoarder and she had two houses right across the street from each other. She wouldn't let us clean inside, unless it was washing dishes or something, but she allowed my husband and I to come over and spend two full Summers everyday cleaning her yards, because her hoard was starting to spill outside and she was embarrassed that the neighbors would see that. It was such heavy work that I ended up getting a frozen shoulder, but we couldn't get anyone to do that kind of work. Later after she passed away, my siblings, my husband and myself had to clean those houses and they were level 9's! We were all in our 60's at the time. We were able to get one company to clean 3 rooms for us, but they were not sorters. They just mostly, threw it all out and we paid 15 grand for that. It took us 6 months of working full time everyday to clean the rest of both those houses, plus two garages full to the ceilings, and a huge attic that was full height and ran the full length of my mom's house. It's been three years and I'm still recovering. The only good thing that came out of it was that it turned out that my dad had been a money hoarder and had hidden 7 different bank accounts that we didn't know about. My brother is a retired banker and was able to find them, plus because it was during the housing boom, we were very surprisingly able to get quite a bit of money for both of those properties. I miss my mom, but I don't miss that mess.
My mom won’t let us in the house either. I have health problems am and dreading what lies ahead. She let us help a little in the yard after the HOA got involved. At least she’s cut back on the animal hoarding. I wish I knew how to have therapeutic conversations with her. She’s so hiding and defensive, it has really hampered our ability to be close.
As a fellow autistic person I want to say that I'm so happy you found something to be passionate about, are successful with it and in the proces help a lot of people. You make the world a better place. Thank you.
From the UK, here ... I was so engrossed in your voice-over, I completely forgot that "pants" in the US are trousers / jeans, etc. For us, "pants" are underwear, so when you said you lost count of the amount of "women's pants" you had to put away, I audibly gasped before it clicked 😄.
Thank you for this. I haven't hit Horder yet but after a miscarriage resulting in bedrest which triggered a horrible depression and anxiety and having two toddlers, needless to say our house has become complete chaos. There isn't one empty counter. After watching several.of your videos I made my cleaning solution, bought good cleaning supplies (game changer), and tote. I used the tote as my storage spot and used your jigsaw. We now have a shiny entryway and living room and are celebrating with pizza! Tomorrow I tackle dining room and kitchen. Later I will do the rest of house. Thank you for giving me hope. I love having your video on as I clean as it made me laugh and keep going!
Have a similar situation! Had a miscarriage, then after remarriage a separation then a major chronic illness and two autistic people in the home (10 and 31) and BAM …disaster! I’m using the videos to inspire me too! Just a small step is still a step! Be blessed!
I had a long day and I was tired and i did my dishes and all I had to do was put my laundry in the dryer and it just seemed so hard. Then I saw you fold 7 hours of laundry and I thought, well I can go put that one load of laundry in the dryer. I dried that laundry right in it's face! That house was so pretty! All that beautiful wood uncovered after the cluttler was removed!
This is my favorite comment of the day. Thank you for sharing! (Is that Laundry-Pile Poodle? Mmmmmhmm. Why don't you throw a pile of clothes in the wash and see if they DESSICCATE IT! 👀👀👀🙌)
I actually learned something quite useful from this video - the idea of just removing everything from an area and putting back only what you want to be there. Then dealing with the leftover clutter separately. The area itself is fixed, the leftover clutter is a smaller, more contained mess. I always get hung up and discouraged trying to figure out what to do with everything. Doing it your way gets you your space back right away.
I love when you talk about people having so much they could get rid of 75% and still have too much. This pushed me to reduce my own clothing - not to minimalism, but to reasonable - and it reduced my stress so well!!! I love my closet now, and packing for my current trip was so much easier. Thanks!!!❤❤❤
He's pushed me, I left a HUGE house in Pittsburgh, PA and threw away almost everything, when I moved to Missouri I started buying 😳 because of Mack, I have emptied everything but my garage and that's next ❤️❤️❤️ Love all his family and extended family ❤️
@@dixiegeorge9665you go! We rented a 20 yard dumpster and got rid of 30 years of crap. We will not leave each other or our children with any burden. It’s incredibly freeing. Now we’re traveling and if anyone raids our house while away, they can have it. Lol

Alot of people when they hear "hoarder" they think what u mainly see on a&e but there are different types of hoarders..a&e is mainly squalor hoarding... Where they live in filth and then u have the hoarders like this... Where things are pretty clean and some organization but there's just alot of stuff. I'm glad that u do both types in ur videos to show the differences! My grandmother was a hoarder... She kept a clean house she just had 1000s of cherubs... Everywhere!!!!!!
I would have a panic attack if I had that much stuff in my house. I'm no minimalist but even after you decluttered it was still too much. My brain would just overload.
With ADHD they already have a cluttered creative mind and they like to SEE their things or they tend to forget about them. He's spot on when he says the wife may panic because she won't know where her stuff has gone.
You probably won't see this at this point, but I just discovered your channel last week and I really appreciate you talking about the reasons behind hoarding, compulsive spending, and all the comorbidities that can interact with them each time you go through one of these houses. You treat these people and their stuff with so much understanding and empathy and it's so wonderful. Your videos have been getting me through a really hellish holiday season. Thank you.
As a minimalist whose parents were hoarders I very much appreciate that what you give is nonjudgmental compassionate support rather than trying to "fix" people and their life. Often these issues exist specifically bc of a history of having their belongings disrespected or taken away and that sort of treatment will never help a hoarder. Great content as always ❤
The only trash we actually took out of here was legitimate garbage: empty boxes, empty wrappers, Jason, and all that expired candy. Love it!! Maybe next time feed the candy to Jason for extra cleaning power
I was reading somewhere that farmers feed candy to their pigs. Now, I am not recommending that as a "declutter" means -but I saw that the candy companies have deals for their "misprints" etc that they sell to farmers.
@@annemartinsen7214 that’s so cool! Maybe they will like the candy corn… theycan have mine. The grocery store that I work for, produce gives about to spoil produce to pigs, and same with the deli department, the pigs get to have store brand deli cheese to fancy cheese. :) the hams though, I don’t think so. Kinda morbid.
This might get buried but I just wanted to say thank you for making these videos! I have autism and ADHD and I struggle SO MUCH with cleaning and maintenance tasks. Whenever I need to get my butt in gear and do all the cleaning I've been putting off I always watch your content, knowing you're like me and seeing you do it makes me feel like I can too! You being non-judgmental about other people's situations helps me give myself the same grace. You're so hilarious and I always look forward to your uploads, so thank you so much for all you do!!!
I feel this! I’ve been finding a lot of adhd and autistic housekeeping/cleaning creators to help me get back into keeping my home in order! I’m glad it’s not just me. It’s especially embarrassing because I grew up on a farm where I was expected to clean my home and a few neighbors homes religiously since I was very young and also worked as housekeeper in high school on top of my other jobs where cleaning was part of my regular duties. Even now after I graduated college as a nurse cleaning patients and their areas to keep it tidy so it doesn’t drive them crazy (In oncology they’re there for longer periods and usually stressed so it does really need to be quite comfortable for them imo) Then to come to my own home I own myself with my husband and let things get out of hand constantly felt so embarrassing 😓 the poor man was constantly picking up my half I felt like. He came from a much more privileged background and just learned to mop this year lol 😝 but in general is very helpful and tries his best and even now he feels bad because I am quite good at cleaning due to my upbringing I just was at a standstill and lacked a motivation (I now know was severe depression, anxiety, overwhelmed and undersupported). I was just undiagnosed for so long and told I had a moral failing by everyone but my husband who finally told me he thought I may have something and should see someone, now that I’ve finally (after almost a year of defying it) less of thing I have to fight and now want to work with. It’s just nice to follow people like this who understand and it has really helped me (in combination with therapy) get things back on track in my life all around and tidy in a way I can manage. Aside from communication and general stuff my husband has learned how to clean more effectively and easily as well since I did it for so many years I can finally help actually show him things a bit better instead of how I did when he first moved out which was more teaching him the survival basics lol 😂. Homeboy never been grocery shopping, did laundry, cooked. He’s good at most now and he loves cooking! He’s quick as a whip! ❤ I will say out of every one like this I follow this channel is my favourite because it’s the most relatable for having been married for such a long time, as a ND person, as someone who cleans a lot, someone I’m a marriage where my husband makes significantly more income and just etc. good advice in general. I love my parents but as a trans person who’s mom has cancer as well and is trying to love them through their biting nature for the time we have left it’s nice to have actual helpful advice instead of “it’s all in your head” and “try harder” and “your going to embarrass him one day and he’ll finally leave you”. Parents are people too but you know, it’s nice to see people being nice and to hear nice things. It’s not a replacement for that lack of love and respect in a personal life but sometimes hearing, reading or other words of affirmation and feeling of compassion helps for the lack of understanding elsewhere in our lives and allows us to feel steadfast in the things that are genuinely helping us feel better about ourselves and live our lives in a way that fulfills you. I just didn’t know what any of it was. Being trans, having adhd, depression, autism, I didn’t know it wasn’t something I couldn’t just fix with working harder or not thinking about it because it’s what I was always told. I wasn’t failing, I just didn’t understand what it was, I still don’t in some ways as self critical and aware as I usually am and that’s ok. Some of my issues have nothing to do with diagnoses and etc. I’ll figure it out at least now I have support 😅 we all will figure out what we got going on. I forgot what I was on about. I was just really happy you found solace in this too and didn’t want you to get discouraged because I’m on that trip too rn and so far it’s going MUCH better! Don’t blame yourself for not being 💯 all the time, we’ve got this! ❤❤❤
My mom has a shopping obsession. She is 74 now and as long as I an remember, she would go shopping after work every day and buy something... Anything she thought someone she knows would want it. She had bags of stuff in her car. Trunk, by her bed, closet, the woman lives in a 3 bedroom house with my dad. The other 2 closets for the bedrooms are filled with her clothes from when she used to work in an office back in 2002. Dresses, shoes, jeans, sweaters. She won't just donate it and I think we need to do it in secret. She can't go up the steps anymore so just take stuff out occasionally in garbage bag lol 😂😊
@@marilynmccormick3731 "A comment is a few words" says the a-hole who wrote a sentence. Guess that was more than a few words, huh? You are not obligated to read what they wrote. Nobody is going to waterboard you into giving in and reading it. Although, if reading a couple of paragraphs is too difficult for you, you're always welcome to pick up a picture book from your local library. I recommend Goodnight Moon, it's my favorite book for babies!
My mum was a hoarder too. Some of her hoard were clothes, wardrobes that she had not opened in over 30 years. We took 17 car trailers full (after she passed away) to the charity shops we had so much that some of the shops said no to the sheer volume. Your arms must have hurt after all that folding! Keep up the good work.
My mother was a compulsive shopper and after my dad passed, she spent all of the money he left her on stuff and A LOT of shoes. We finally had to have a giant estate sale to clear the house. Afterward, she would constantly ask where certain things were. It was very hard on my siblings and I. We took over her bank accounts after that. She was not at all happy with any of it.
This is probably going to be me in a few years, my mom has hoarded so much stuff from QVC, tons of clothing as well but cannot part with any of it. They're ok financially so it's never been an "issue" per se. I am not eager for the day we have to take over the finances once she's retired.
I am sorry you and your siblings are going through this. That is why I am getting my space in order. Your children and grandchildren don't want or need your stuff! But other people can benefit from your things if you give it away to a shelter or to anyone who is starting over with nothing.
Man, I wish I could get you guys in northern MN to help with my Mom's house. She is a "shopping hoarder" and doesnt think it is an issue. You cannot even sit in her house anymore. I came to your channel to learn how to help clean out her house. I appreciate what all you are doing.
I enjoy watching these videos. I especially love that Jason works with you, on the job. You must have raised your kids right! I grew up in a filthy, cluttered home, just like some of the ones you show here. As you clean, I envision my childhood home, and think about how nice it was when clean , I even envision myself cleaning it all up now! That house sold in 2006, seven years after my mom passed. Dad sold it and all three of his kids helped him clear it out. I have been married 40 yrs, and keep a clean “lived-in” maximalist decor home. It’s not magazine worthy, but welcoming... just don’t go in my “catch-all” room. Currently, I’m recuperating from detached-retina surgery, but have many plans and ideas, to restore that room to a comfortable guest room. Thanks for the encouragement, and for the comfort your channel brings me. I am reconciling thoughts, habits, and issues that I’ve carried into my adult life, from my childhood... at 58 yrs old!
Ooh I had detached retina surgery, then cataract surgery (the retina surgery speeds up cataract development). Now I have something called “secondary cataract” & will have a procedure in December. It will be an in-office thing, not a big deal. I’m around your age too. Hang in there, it will get better.
I’m right there with you Patricia. Mama was a hoarder before I knew what a hoarder was. All my siblings have hoarding tendencies to some degree or another. My sister has much of what was left in my parents’ house after they passed in 2016. She’s hoarding it. Her husband is ready to leave her because she won’t even go through not even one box.
@@DVD927 yes, they say there’s a series of subsequent surgeries cataract being one, it is long and arduous. The lying face down for weeks has been the hardest! But I have @midwestmagiccleaning videos to keep me company!
I also love Aurikaterena's (sp?) channel. She makes it clear about what kind of cleaning she does and doesn't do. Her getting trash and dirt out of people's homes is just as important as what you do with clutter. Everyone deserves help when it gets overwhelming no matter what their mess is made of. I appreciate both of your channels and the others out there helping people out with their difficult situations
I love seeing kitchens that haven't been completely gutted of all their vintage cabinets. The colors and patterns are gorgeous to me. Almost everything lately is completely neutral, and it's kinda sad. The colorful, old fashioned look just seems to have so much personality and uniqueness. Just my opinion though.
I don't think this was an original kitchen, but it's not brand new by any means. The house may date back to the mid to late 60's and got an update in the past oh, 30 years. That said, the flooring is definitely newer. Clue was the counter tops, unless formica based, it's wood counters.
I completely agree! I can't stand white painted everything, especially wood. Not every house needs updating. In fact, none of them do. I wish people would quit painting every surface, piece of furniture, especially white. Ruined, and so horrid!
You're such an anomaly in a good way. Your voice is soothing and then you say the silliest things that ya gotta laugh at. I also clean for a living and I live in my head when cleaning so I get what you go through. Thanks for sharing your head space!
Just cleaned a house that was going to be sold. Four adults, 2 teenagers and a big hairy dog. OMG! I’m 61 and I was overwhelmed . Watched your channel just to show me it can be done. I subscribed to your channel. Love your voice over. If it was me doing this it would have been straight swearing.
Well hello Tommy! I am currently cleaning out from under my bed on my 49th birthday after work because I have no life😂😂😂 But I found my scented candles😂 And my nail kit And my hair pins And a book I brought back from Nevada And yet another phone charger cord 😂
Mack... Bonnie said you encouraged her to record in the closet for better audio. I told Bonnie that the sound was awesome, but you probably just wanted to see if she would crawl in the closet! We had a pretty good thread going of people saying "Yeah that sounds like something Mack would do"! 😂
I visited a family years ago when I was a teenager. I stayed for a week. It was a hoarder house like this. Not nasty; just so much stuff. Expensive & nice things. I offered to help my friend take a load of dirty clothes to the laundry room in the garage. She wasn’t expecting me to open the door from the kitchen to the garage. It was completely packed-hip to shoulder high-with just clothing. Dirty clothes. She, a teen, was trying to help her family cope but she couldn’t do as much as they needed. If there wasn’t clean clothes for the family, they just bought more. Obviously she was embarrassed but dismissed it. They had lots of status in the church & community. You’d never know how they lived like that. Later, again, I’m come across people who will buy clothing, wear it once & throw it away instead of washing it. One lady had no idea that clothing could be washed & reused. I could never wrap my mind around that kind of lifestyle. Constantly buying clothes & things.
I have to ask ... the lady with no idea you can wash clothes? What was her deal? A truly isolated, terrible upbringing and lack of exposure to the rest of society? I can't understand how it's possible otherwise. She never heard people talk about laundry? Or saw laundry products at a supermarket in adulthood at least, on adverts on the TV or people washing clothes in fictional stories or shows? I just wonder how it's possible?
These videos really help me assess what I need/want and what I don’t. I’m a college student right now so I always try to keep my space presentation ready, before I go to sleep, before I leave for the day, before someone comes over. The space looks lived in, just aesthetically. I remember when I was kid though, with two siblings all living in one room, toys and clothing would stack up just like in this video and it would take hours to clean with constant encouragement from my Saint of a mother. It’s videos like this that further motivate me to be careful and methodical and remind me of a time when I didn’t have much control over the situation much like what I imagine these people feel. Though I hated cleaning as a kid because it took so long, I always was happy to have a clean room after and when I woke up in the morning I didn’t have to climb over toys to go eat breakfast and I didn’t have to struggle to find clean clothing. Now I’m happy all the time because I try my best to live in a clean environment. The relief and relaxation I feel in a clean environment always astounds me. Thank you for another wonderful video! So happy I am subscribed.
I grew up in a messy home. I still hate cleaning. The last 2 years I have realized that if my space isn't neat, I don't rest. Also my anxiety and irritability goes thru the roof.
My 17 year old son has a roomful of cars, books, and animals that he jumbles up every day all over the place. I always encourage him to help me clean up everything every day so he can start fresh the next day! He was born with DS, has dev delays, but I agree that it just feels good to have a neat space and that’s what I want him to take from our daily cleanups.
I think i discovered the jigsaw puzzle method on my own when i recently reorganized my kitchen! I have executive dysfunction so sometimes i forget what i have. It was getting to the point where i somehow ended up with six bottles of syrup. So i took everything in my kitchen and put it in a pile on the floor. Then i put the larger gadgets like the air fryer in their spot. Then i put the pans closer to the stove. Then i gathered all the pasta in one pile, oatmeal in another, etc. Once i had them all together i took some storage bins and used them to separate things out so i could see and access what i have. Thanks for giving so much practical advice.
Thank you for sharing your videos with us. This looks like my home. I have so many articles of clothing that I have them in piles in my bedroom, laundry room and 2 hutches and piles everywhere. So being a compulsive spender and hoarder hits home for me. Just watching you move and fold those clothes gives me slight anxiety. No help from anyone at this time but doing a little bit each day helps. Blessings to you all ❤
I don't know if you use credit cards but if it's really a big problem for you, pay off and cancel all your store credit card accounts. It's one way to slow the buying down if you don't have a line of credit to use. As someone who works in a clothing store I know we always push the rewards cards but on my time off I'm still gonna tell you that you don't have to buy stuff to get points or rewards or whatever if you already have a lot and are at capacity.
@@Iquey thank you for asking me this. I don’t have any credit cards but I’m taking care of my grandsons. I do buy for others, family and gifts but I have given away clothing that no longer fits the kids but still have a lot to go through. It’s just overwhelming as I have a full time job and I have Fibromyalgia so sometimes hours of work then cleaning etc. becomes exhausting. Blessings to you ❤️
My Grandmother was a compulsive spender for clothes and when she passed she thought I would want to put them all in a boutique and sell them for her. I said no, please PLEASE don't. And she put it in her will. She passed in 2017 and I have boxes of her stuff in my house up to the ceiling 😭 and I don't even want to look at it because I just get heartbroken. My aunt who was an extreme hoarder died in late 2019 and thankfully left me nothing. My mother is unable to walk without extreme pain, my brother is a mentally challenged stoner/sponge who won't even put groceries away when I pay to have them delivered but will sneak around at 3am and eat them. My dad left when we lost our house when we could not rewrite the mortgage in 2011. So that leaves me as the only able bodied adult in my house of 3 adults and one child, (my nephew) and I work from home: 98 percent of the time I'm exhausted and miserable and still behind on housework but I try to focus on one room or major task a day. I will not escape the mess.
OMG Mack, there are now people that are going to believe that Bonnie is out there, shaving people's heads off camera! LOL. Love your videos, I watch them all 😀😀
I just assumed Bonnie started another channel where she filmed head shaving, but couldn't get enough people willing to get their head shaved.😁(Have you noticed how smiley face emojis are all shaved)
I hate laundry, so watching you deal with all those clothes would be my 3rd circle of hell😂. Another amazing job. I like how you discuss hoarding vs compulsive buying. It has given me insight into some people I know and helps this no-clutter-ever woman understand and be empathetic. Love your channel!
SO good to see you again cleaning a house 😊! Seems like it's been a while. I can not imagine folding that many clothes😮. Wow! Y'all made everything look so nice again. Love the difference that Liquid Gold made on those kitchen cabinets. I do hope that the wife was happy about what you did and the organization you brought to their living spaces. Beautiful ♥️
In my experience with helping folks clean and organize, sometimes compulsive spenders/ hoarders see all the empty space after the clean up and think they have more room to get more stuff. I hear so much of myself when you talk about how you deal with what you can and cannot do in some circumstances. You do a great job, I’m a new subscriber because you validate my feelings many times and it makes me feel better 😂
Their home and their furniture is so beautiful. I'm not a hoarder but I do have tendencies and I have some understanding of their struggles and therefore I have much compassion. I just found your channel recently but each video I watch I send up a prayer for the family you helped and also I always pray for the safety and well being of you and your employees and send gratitude to you. 😊💝🙏
Omg I was trying to put my finger on why your humor was so hilarious for me. There's not a lot of humor that makes me laugh, because I'm very literal. The jokes usually have to come from out of nowhere or make literal sense for me to have and understand any kind of jovial reaction. I recently found out that I have autism. It all makes sense. It's funny hearing it from a different perspective. The people around me have always said I should be a comedian, because I have flat affect and thus my delivery is flat. Your jokes make me laugh^^! Also, I wanted to say that the work you do is so meaningful. As someone who has dealt with family members that "hoard" and have accumulated massive amounts of stuff my entire life, seeing these kinds of videos warms my heart. I wasn't very good a socializing even with family when I was younger, so my love language took on an "acts of service" air. I would end up deep cleaning my relative's/friends' houses for them. My mom struggled with accumulating things as well, so I was constantly cleaning and organizing. I just wanted to say that the hope you give people is real and appreciated. You're kind and genuinely hilarious. The work you do is important and I'm proud of what everyone on your team has accomplished! I wish you all the best^^
I can't even imagine the feeling of productivity you would feel doing all of the work. All of you are absolutely amazing sir. Thank God you exist in today's world.
I want to comment on how interesting, insightful, and useful your videos are. I can just watch cleaning with little narration, but I find questions popping up in my mind the whole time. Your narrations address the clients situation (without compromising their privacy) touches on non judgement, which I applaud, and your narration also explains cleaning methods, techniques and supplies. You answer my questions as they pop up in my head. Other cleaning channels are interesting, and I think you guys who are contributing to the rest of humanity should be applauded, but your narration sets the bar a little higher. And the other channels don't have Jason. So suck it!❤
Just sent a car load of stuff over to a charity shop. My closet makes me smile when I walk in it. I like the idea of clearing out stuff is like setting up to do a jigsaw puzzle. Will use that on the next “weed out job”.
No, hoarders will ask for YEARS where things went! My mom was a hoarder, and yes, she had ADHD and major depression and probably a lot of other things. No matter how many times we (or friends or people from church) came in and cleaned things up, it always returned back to what you see in this video. She became very distrustful and would not let anyone in to clean up, because she was afraid we would throw something out that she thought was valuable. It was only after she ended up in a nursing home that we were finally able to go in and clean. She had a lot of trauma in her life and had a very hard life in general. I am so happy she is free from all that now. What a great endeavor you are performing!
Awwww Jason’s back yay!! I just love that sweet boy!! His smile will melt anyone’s heart ❤❤❤. Mack you’re a machine!! The amount of clothes that you folded is mind boggling!! Y’all need to get full body massages regularly. You must be so sore after these cleaning’s!!! This house looks 110% better great job guys ❤❤❤❤
For some reason this house, out of all the houses you've done, really gave me flashbacks. I used to do childcare for a woman whose house looked like this. She had tons of clothes and clutter. I started cleaning up her stuff whenever the kids went down for a nap. I never threw anything away unless it was obviously trash, but I would fold, wash, organize, stack, etc. Of course, there was never enough time in a 1-2 hour nap to get much done, and the mess was neverending. But I enjoyed it.
Im in the U.K. - Watching your channel has given me bursts of enthusiasm to clean my house. I lost my partner christmas 2021 and I pretty much gave up. Pottered but nothing significant. Well its got to the stage of the house is now 'dirty'. In nearly two years, this week I have managed to clean the stairs, hallway and part of the dining room. The kitchen I just do every day. I feel the dishwasher and washing machine is on constantly. But I've taken your trick of cleaning a surface and using it as a sorting table. I also only do 30 mins bursts, but its cleaned properly. Im looking to get the 'oh look more laundry & dishes' t-shirts. I Love em and thats 'how I roll' my life is one long round of washing up and washing 😂❤
Okay, I was freaking out because I was missing a MMC video. So, thank you for this. I’m good now. And honestly the price of membership is worth every penny. This is the best channel for my cleaning obsession. I love Barbie and Bonnie, but this is IT for me. 🤩

Seeing the right after makes me sigh in relief. I know 4 hoarders and let me tell you, I don't always go see them for a few reason, one being the massive amount of clutter. My grandmother died in hospice but we had to clean her clutter with roaches...the feeling when it is 60% less clutter is so nice. All those cleaning videos make me declutter. I could have tendencies so I really force myself to declutter. Thank you for the awesome vids.
Hey Mack. Been watching you for a while. I think I heard you say one time that you often don’t turn on the closed caption because it’s so inaccurate, but I have to tell you as a person who is very hard of hearing, it really helps me because they’re about 90% accurate and what isn’t accurate is sometimes very funny. So I would really appreciate it if you would turn them on for every video if you can. I’m not sure if that costs something or not. Thank you for considering!
I use closed captions because I watch my channels like this and my many hobby channels on my tablet while my husband is watching the big screen smart tv! My main hobby is sewing for over 50 years so I watch instructional videos on 2x speed since I don't need tiny details and use closed captions to turn down the chipmunk voice!
wow. How did you not get overwhelmed. geeeeeze. Love your family and JASON I am team Jason. OMG look at that kitchen. How did you not faint? DId you have one of those little "lipstick" sized snap open amonia thingies.. OMGOODNESS. God bless you for what you do for these people. They are so grateful.
I don't normally comment on anything, but I just feel compelled to tell you how much I love your videos. You have a unique ability to spread compassion and mental health awareness while being so hilarious at the same time. I have ADHD, and I find your advice for decluttering while being overwhelmed so helpful without any judgement. Thank you so much for what you do and for sharing it with the world!
Love from Sweden! My adult daughter love your channel and recommended it (not that I am a horder of any kind - sort of - but do love a good cleaning channel.) There is always something you can appreciate and learn from it. All the best!!
When you said you were overwhelmed going into the bedroom, that is me everyday all day. I still have learned so much from your channel and it has inspired me on my good days to make a difference in my home. I just wish I had more good days.
I'm like a combination of you AND your wife. I love to make order out of a chaotic mess, though, for whatever reason, I'm better with other people's messes than my own. I'm well known for going on a vacation and completely undoing a friend's kitchen and putting it all back together again. Sadly, I can also be a bit of a compulsive spender and collector. Right now I'm working on my own little messes here and there along with larger accumulations that I've been avoiding for too long. My goals (in order) are to: 1. Get every room in my house clean and uncluttered one by one, by discarding or donating all excess. 2. Organize all of the cabinets, drawers, and closets (getting rid of excess again). 3. Maintain a clean and orderly home for at least 30 days before I... 4. Make myself available to others in my area who are in need of this kind of help. I hope that I will make it to Goal Number 4! I tend to become overwhelmed by my own clutter and mess so I've not always been so reliable to take care of things in a timely manner once they get out of hand. However, since binge-watching many of your vids, I've begun utilizing your "just move something" and "the timer" methods. Like you, I have a bad back and, normally when I really clean, I will clean all day long, with almost no breaks at all, to the point that I cannot sleep at night for pain. Then I'm pretty useless for a day or two. Using "the timer" method, and the "just move something" method, before I know it, the timer goes off and an amazing amount of work has been accomplished. Because I'm 50, and not in the best shape, I take a 30-minute break and, when the timer goes off, I do another 30 minutes of work. I have made huge progress so far with these methods. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Great Vids!
I was chastised once for cleaning above kitchen cabinets and the ceiling fan while on vacation in Maine….it was raining! We knew the owners, they were older, thought I’d help out!
@@lisajean228 Amazingly, no one ever chastised me but they probably would have liked to. I didn't always think to get permission before hand. I was in my 30s before I knew that there was anything odd about what I enjoyed doing while my host(s) was (or were) away for the day. I still haven't gotten my autism dx. 😁
I love your and Ari's videos and the fact that you both do these hoarder houses for free. I also love that you both are so understanding of the home owners and their needs. I wish more people were kind to these homeowners (mental health is no joke, I have depression that can be debilitating I can barely get out of bed sometimes). I also really love your sense of humor. You make me laugh. Just goes to show that some heroes don't wear capes ❤❤❤❤❤❤
I think it’s really cute how your family communicate in bat squeaks and chipmunk noises. Adorable. Some time could you make Jasón sing for us, maybe huh?
I canceled my Amazon Prime membership so it wouldn’t be so easy to buy. I don’t go in stores very often. I say, “Get thee behind me, SATAN!” when I see a yard sale sign.
Thats ol' jigsaw makin' Johnny! Great job and thank you all always for helping us figure out the clutter with your methods!! Helps to know the "how" to get us started ! ❤
I admire how respectful you are whilst doing this work the empathy you have towards others that are struggling and how you use your hobby of cleaning to help. Love your humour you are funny without even realising love it😂❤
Thank you for respecting maximalism! I am a maximalist myself and I cannot STAND when people try to push the minimalist lifestyle onto me because they think my collecting=hoarding. I keep all of my items off the floor, neatly organized on shelves; each shelf has its own purpose, and all shelves are pushed against the wall in order to keep floor space wide and clear. I don't collect trash. Anything dirty gets cleaned and put away immediately; in fact, I use the same 2 cups and plates. I cannot stand when my possessions break, but if it happens I either give it away or trash it. I grew up in a household where the MOST important thing was cleanliness, regardless of what you kept in your space! As a kid I was very messy, but I think I was suffering from my (then undiagnosed) depression disorder, and I was also very overwhelmed with anxiety. My god I was messy lol. As an adult, I'm so glad my parents were obsessive with keeping the house clean; whenever I visit other adults and see their messy homes, I feel uncomfortable, and then I'm reminded I should clean my own space. It's so therapeutic to clean when you're at an age where you can really appreciate it. Thanks again for always being so respectful. Your content has inspired me so much.
I followed your methods exactly, emptying my pantry, putting everything on the table, sorting through it and chucking out-of-date stuff away. Cleaned the shelves and put the good stuff back. Now I’ve got an almost empty pantry and will have to replace a load of stuff just in case I ever want to use it. Winner of the longest out of date product was a box of cornflour (UK) from 2015! Huge thank you to you and Jason for inspiring me!
Wish you were in western Kentucky. My ADHD makes it hard to organize my tiny 1 bedroom apartment for my 3 cats and I. I've not been able to figure out where to put stuff since I moved in. My move into this apartment started with my life falling apart and some time in a psych hospital. I really like that you try to honor the style/aesthetic of the owner.
The house looked tons better afterwards! Well done you two! I think if I was the owner, I would just have a huge sigh of relief when I walked into the house! 😊
All that folding would have driven me absolutely batty. Bloody hell, I procrastinate folding my own single load once every few weeks. Completely mindblowing how you managed to get through all that.
Hahaha. I had that shirt as a little girl. First time I went to the midwest I fell in love it. I wore that airbrusbed wolf short everywhere for awhile!
Very interesting observation of how things get like this. What would cause someone to continue to buy if they don’t have room for what they have or be able to enjoy things they do love? Awesome job, a beautiful home and so glad you could help this family
I have learned some cleaning tricks from you and I have been using them for weeks now. It has made my life easier. Thank you. Also I have to say there is a lot of astonishing content. I have also learned some information about mental illness because you answer questions from people that are also my own. Thank you for what you do.
Love how you respect how these people live in their houses and understand what can give them some peace. And of course that you don't poop on their floors. 😂
Hey, almost there! I’m Jan Davis but you can call me Rust Bucket Jammer - I can Jamm with the best of them. Suck It!!! And that Jason is a filthy worm! 😅 seriously, I get your humor perfectly and am a little surprised that people don’t. What does that make both of us????!! Keep being you, big guy. ❤
I like your sense of humor and how you explain what you’re doing and why. This was my first time watching and I ended up subscribing-keep up the good work!😊
Women's shelters are a good place to donate to as well. You'd just basically call them and ask what they need, or if they'd be interested in taking some donations.
Great job! I love watching you work with your son. You transformed this house from a storage unit to a home - I can see why the husband was so emotional when he saw it.
I wish I could get you to do my mom's house. She's a compulsive spender and a creative. My childhood home was always unfinished projects. One including an attempt to flip the kitchen and over 5 years later there is still no electricity in half the kitchen.
Oh no, sorry for you and your mom :-( Sunds like she might be suffering from ADHD - has she been diagnosed? She sounds creative (racing mind on overdrive), spontaneous (compulsive spending and unexpected actions) lots of new ideas all the time, but never actually able to go through with the idea and finish it, because she loses focus quickly, gets bored and is already chasing the next much more exciting idea? Collects lots of things in piles for future use, but then forgets she even has the pile in the first place? Too excited for big projects in the future to do the daily, small, but "boring" tasks? Trouble with executive function? Sounds very familiar to a lot of ADHD people. Maybe you can look into that with her? The thing is that whatever she suffers from, it's a disorder, that can't be cured, only managed. It's very challenging to change behavior especially with a disorder like that. She needs help and can't change on her own. With correct diagnosis and behavioral therapy she might manage her life better. But until her issues (the cause) of her behavior are addressed and managed, her behavior will continue, it cannot be cured by one deep house cleaning. In the meantime you can help her house situation with her consent -if you can hire a regular housekeeper for her, just doing a bit of light cleaning every week, that will keep her bathroom, kitchen and laundry clean, safe to eat in and a bit less cluttered. But you need her consent so she doesn't feel attacked in her own house by a stranger or by you. How does that sound, what are your thoughts? I know it's not easy for you and your childhood has been hard with a parent suffering like that and making you miserable 😢
Other than there being a ton of stuff in this house, it actually seemed " cleanish" the floors didn't seem horrible like some others I've seen, and the stove and counters weren't terrible. It was like a bunch of stuff in a newer home.
You are very inspiring and your voice over really helps to explain how to get out of the predicament you're cleaning up ( and makes me laugh). We live in a small house with small closets. I've been wanting to get my clothing situation under control for awhile but didn't have time. I've been retired for 2 months now and finally got it done. I was able to get three under bed tubs down to two. The rest fits in a closet and wardrobe. I'm not minimalist either. I like a variety of clothing and an artsy lived in style in my house. Your videos have taught me how to have this without being overwhelmed with stuff. Thanks for what you do and explaining it all to us. ❤
I love their kitchen and all of the wood pieces in this house. One of those cabinets in the living room reminded me of my grandmother's house where she had a wall to wall display case with every inch packed with oil lamps in every size you can imagine. It's so interesting to me to see people's maximalist collections. I wish we could have seen the board games.
I hope the owners feel better when they get home. What a great help that was. I am learning that having less stuff makes it easier to keep my home tidy and my anxiety in check. I still online shop way too much for myself and others. “Retail therapy.” I need another form of therapy. 😂 Now I am trying the one in/one out rule.
I gotta say, your method that you've mentioned on several videos of "clean the thing that's currently annoying you" has been a total gamechanger, I've been decluttering and cleaning my garage in stages all this week and it's helped me to keep it moving and not get paralyzed
WISH I could contribute and become a member, something satisfying about watching you transform these homes!!Your so kind and helpful to those in need! I'd do something like that but my health just won't allow me to. Talk about a lot of clothes, but I can't talk, I have a whole closet full of some of my moms clothes she gave me year's ago I can't even wear. I started to purge them, then 3 year's ago she fell on ice hit her head and now has dementia. I haven't touched them since, don't really have plans to at the moment either. It's all I have left. Anyway, great job! That's a really beautiful home!! And your still a dork! Don't change 😊❤ Thanks for sharing
Mack: caught your reference in the video about office supplies -pens, notebooks, planners etc -In several of the organizing books I have read, I have seen a reference that people buy those things because they are trying to "buy time" ...not inherently as a compulsive spend, but rather as triggered step -"I am going to start a project, so I need a new notebook, pens, bins etc.". Just thinking with you.
Thank you.
Yes yes, exactly this. Also autistic and have the same exact thoughts.
I say “under pants” 😂😂
@@kml1195I say under panties 😂

Good for you.
Yayyy proud of you! 🎉🎉🎉 I have an angel baby too, as well as 3 kiddos so it can all get so overwhelming ❤ You got this!
You got this. Happy for you❤
Wow good for you
Have a similar situation!
he cleans like a machine doesnt he!
That's how I work on rooms or closets. While it's in progress it's a bigger mess but once you clear out the space you can organize stuff a lot easier
Lol

Wow, good for you! I need to do that!
Thank you.
These videos have scared me into decluttering my house and into not spending so much. Praise the lord
@@annemartinsen7214in
@@annemartinsen7214 that’s so cool! Maybe they will like the candy corn… theycan have mine. The grocery store that I work for, produce gives about to spoil produce to pigs, and same with the deli department, the pigs get to have store brand deli cheese to fancy cheese. :) the hams though, I don’t think so. Kinda morbid.
@shymidsib 😂 I bet they would eat it, though 😊
Expired candy is not going to kill you you can probably donate to some pantry that allows expired food.
Even now after I graduated college as a nurse cleaning patients and their areas to keep it tidy so it doesn’t drive them crazy (In oncology they’re there for longer periods and usually stressed so it does really need to be quite comfortable for them imo)
Then to come to my own home I own myself with my husband and let things get out of hand constantly felt so embarrassing 😓 the poor man was constantly picking up my half I felt like. ❤
I will say out of every one like this I follow this channel is my favourite because it’s the most relatable for having been married for such a long time, as a ND person, as someone who cleans a lot, someone I’m a marriage where my husband makes significantly more income and just etc. good advice in general.

I like how you describe cleaning as doing a puzzle. Really helps relieve the stress of starting and a good mindset to have 🙏
My mother was a compulsive shopper and after my dad passed, she spent all of the money he left her on stuff and A LOT of shoes. We finally had to have a giant estate sale to clear the house. Afterward, she would constantly ask where certain things were. It was very hard on my siblings and I. We took over her bank accounts after that. She was not at all happy with any of it.
I'm so sorry you had to experience that and continue to deal with it .
@@Rollimggiant Thank you. You’re very kind.
This is probably going to be me in a few years, my mom has hoarded so much stuff from QVC, tons of clothing as well but cannot part with any of it. They're ok financially so it's never been an "issue" per se. I am not eager for the day we have to take over the finances once she's retired.

I hope your recovery from a detached retina goes smoothly and well.

@@XX-pl3tm Different strokes for different folks.

I think they have a gorgeous house and am surprised how good of shape the floors are in under all that stuff.

@@heidimakkonen5552 you live in a beautiful country. I was fortunate enough to travel up above the Arctic circle in January. Quite an experience!
@@littleblackpistolI walk past stuff I don’t understand in the supermarket the whole time so I can believe that bit
Blessings to you all ❤
You’re not alone and you’re not a bad person. The more decisions you make, the more you heal your brain and yourself. Keep up the good work ❤

I wish you all the best^^
i love the before & afters at the end, so satisfying.

Thank you, Jewel! ❤️❤️👊

It defaults to generating captions. It just takes a while for RUclips to process them.
I agree. I always use Closed Caption. Sometimes they will give you extra information about what you are watching.
Take care Holly ❤️
I use closed captions because I watch my channels like this and my many hobby channels on my tablet while my husband is watching the big screen smart tv! “We only took the trash out… empty boxes, wrappers… JASON“ 🤣🤣🤣 poor Jason! I love watching your videos and the random jokes throughout!
My goals (in order) are to:
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Great Vids!

Your sense of humor is like my dad’s. He was a fun guy. It’s nice to hear your jokes and be reminded of all the giggles.

I think this is the first video that I have watched from your channel. I really like how you respect the owners of this home.
Women's shelters are a good place to donate to as well. You'd just basically call them and ask what they need, or if they'd be interested in taking some donations.
Great job! I love watching you work with your son. You transformed this house from a storage unit to a home - I can see why the husband was so emotional when he saw it.
So you threw Jason out with the expired candy that's hilarious. Great Job Guys.
Wow!! Great job to you and to Filth!! The house looks great!!! 🙌🙌🙌

One of those cabinets in the living room reminded me of my grandmother's house where she had a wall to wall display case with every inch packed with oil lamps in every size you can imagine. It's so interesting to me to see people's maximalist collections. I wish we could have seen the board games.
So overwhelming! It is amazing that you can puzzle piece things together like that. ❤

I hope the owners feel better when they get home. What a great help that was. I am learning that having less stuff makes it easier to keep my home tidy and my anxiety in check. I still online shop way too much for myself and others. “Retail therapy.” I need another form of therapy. 😂
Now I am trying the one in/one out rule.
I gotta say, your method that you've mentioned on several videos of "clean the thing that's currently annoying you" has been a total gamechanger, I've been decluttering and cleaning my garage in stages all this week and it's helped me to keep it moving and not get paralyzed
I notice the home is fairly clean under all that clutter. That must have made it nicer to clean. 😊
You weren’t joking about the volume of clothes. And my cheeky hubby says I have too many!
Loved hearing about the lady’s husband’s reaction.
Don't change 😊❤
Thanks for sharing
Mack: caught your reference in the video about office supplies -pens, notebooks, planners etc -In several of the organizing books I have read, I have seen a reference that people buy those things because they are trying to "buy time" ...not inherently as a compulsive spend, but rather as triggered step -"I am going to start a project, so I need a new notebook, pens, bins etc.". Just thinking with you.
Mack you did a great job with Jason's help, they really need to purge. Way too much stuff. At least they are a clean family.
