I love this. "Why do they have a giant tv?" "None of your business." When you're this poor, tv is your only entertainment. They deserve some happiness and fun in their lives. Even if it's just tv.
True. And it might have been a gift.
@@KENTUCKYUSA1True. My first big-screen tv was a spare that my son had in his basement.
Thank you, for some people their TV is their only entertainment.
Yeah I’ll never understand why people act like poor people don’t deserve to have anything that might make their life slightly enjoyable. Also TVs really aren’t expensive nowadays. You can get a massive TV for a few hundred bucks. And it’s a one time purchase. Most people aren’t replacing their TVs every year or even every few years, it’s something you keep around for a long time.
Mainly, it's none of our business
PAINT TIP: okay I used to work for Sears...the paint department would get lots of returns for paint...wasn't exact right color yada...so they put the cans in the clearance section. Some people don't even know about the paint clearance section but I will go one step further!! You can take those same cans of clearance paint and have the clerk add color to it for free to change the coloring and still get the paint on clearance!! Sometimes if you're really sweet like sugar they are sometimes willing to even give you a further discount on the paint if you ask nicely.
Awesome! Thank you for sharing!
Sears has been closed for a few years now.
Other places that sell paint do this, home depot always has an end cap or other area near the paint dept with discounted mixed paint😊
This is not new info
Interesting. Didn’t know could add color
I wish more people understood the exhaustion and depression that comes with wanting to be clean and clutter free, but living in poverty makes it almost impossible. You scrub and sweep and dust and all you can still see is chipped paint and worn carpets. It wears you down and you just end up staring at the piles or go to sleep to ignore it.
@amberpeace5099 How do you know that more people don’t understand about the exhaustion and depression that comes with wanting to be clean and clutter free? But it’s not just people living in poverty, do you think rich people have a perfect life and never have to deal with exhaustion and depression? It’s anxiety and disorders that people feel they’re not cleaning enough, not organized enough and doing too much but they don’t feel it’s enough when it is. It’s OCD and compulsive cleaning and people have much deeper issues that think cleaning and being clutter free will make them feel better, it doesn’t. Most of this world of people do understand exhaustion and depression for all kinds of reasons. I go through it, too.
@@JMarieCAlovebut it’s the lack of ability to afford to fix certain problems that can make depression worse. I know when my house , kitchen is cluttered or dirty it really impacts my depression.
If I had to deal wirh stained carpets ,holes in the wall, ugly stained paint , chilled paint, in addition to clutter and dirt, then it woukd REALLY have a negative impact on my mood.
Rich people have it made! They can get help with all of that, as money is no issue.@@JMarieCAlove
@@JMarieCAlove Of couse anyone can have depression, but material resources or the lack thereof have a huge impact on your ability to fight it. Some people can afford therapy, some cant. Some people can afford to hire a cleaner, some can't. Some people can afford a couple cans of paint and some can't. It's not that difficult to understand...
Exactly! Thank you for the perfect description. It's what I go thru every minute of every day.
For people who don’t appreciate this 3k is a bloody fortune for people in these circumstances .
Thank you so much for your generosity to strangers
Its a fortune even if you DON'T live in those circumstances.
Agreed!
@@debbysouthworth5606for some, its pocket money.
Uuhh, yeah.
I can't STAND the mentality that just because someone is poor it means they don't deserve anything nice. Thank you for what you said about the tv. It's no one business period.
I used to be a young single mom, tax time I bought myself a 22" flatscreen as I had no TV at all. Didn't have cable either just a cheap DVD player and would buy movies from the $2-5 bins. A friend came over one day and was like how can you see from that tiny screen! Left and came back with a 42" he was getting rid of as he just upgraded to a high end 65" for his gaming. Cheapest 42" at the time still cost about $700.
Meanwhile I bought my latest 65" 4k smart TV for $600 a few years ago and they're even cheaper now.
Agreed 10000%
Walmart always has sales on TV this time of the year. Tax time, was Christmas time for my kids and myself.
I still have to watch my pennies after all of these years. Soc. Security only goes so far.
It's just a matter of priorities if you have kids. First of all, you don't need your kids having their corneas blasted with a 75" tv five feet from the wall, secondly don't make your kids live in a dungeon if you can afford a 42" tv AND some inexpensive curtains.
@@lisacaron7224 I'll bet your chronic self-righteousness will have a far, far greater negative impact on your own children than this woman's home has on hers. Sit tight. It's coming.......
I absolutely adore the cat supervision
Yes, there was a cat project manager on the work site!
Things always go better with cat supervision.
Actually, TWO cats (one black and one orange) AND a DOG!
Loved seeing them "helping"!😸😽🐶
@cheryldavis8776 I know!! Simply precious 💖
Can't do a job properly with out feline snoopervisors on the site.
My home is 117 years old and while it's definitely in disrepair, these videos help me realize that I might not be in as bad a starting point as I thought. I am very thankful to be able to get a house at all. I have done many sub $50 repairs slowly over the course of the last two years and the home went from uninhabitable hoarded infestation to functional clean but dated home. Thanks for the motivation to keep moving forward!
The cat immediately approved the TV stand, as if it was saying: This will be my favorite spot! 😺
also looking out the window at 23:22 😊
No shade to Stephen Hulking, or to Jason, but that cat is the real star of this video.
I love how helpful pets are when you are working 😊
The black kitty was facinated by the lights in the TV stand. So cute.
I love that you advised nobody's business. I had a Marine hero that brought me a brand new HD flat screen so I could watch football after I lost everything due to cancer. God bless you for helping these folks!
'Lost everything due to cancer...' Medical stories from the US just break your heart. Good luck to you.
Totally agree with the nobody's business ,or Judgement.
I just got thru chemo myself. Only able to survive I think because of my wonderful granddaughter. I’m physically disabled too and use a wheelchair so I’m doing my best. I have a very expensive knitting habit that if I gave it up I could have a cleaner once a month but knitting is all I have left. I’m not going to give that up.

everyones talking about how helpful this channel is but no one mentions how insanely funny this guy is
I agree... he makes me laugh a lot, too
There's nothing funny about moose infestation.
Really got me in the feels when Jason stopped to pet that kitty who was watching so intently ❤
Your empathy for her husband's anxiety issues made my whole heart burst. You didn't just help them with physical and financial experience you gave them emotional experience too. ❤
I’m glad Jason finally learned to put mascara on an ostrich. Under-rated skill.

I really appreciate how gentle you are with Hoarding Disorder and OCD and ADHD and Depression and whatnot. As someone with OCD, I've found so many people who just don't "get" us and it can be so hurtful. So thank you.
The acknowledgement is important, usually people will make jokes as its the only way they know how to.

@@CandiceLemonSharks - Yes! Cool older Internet guilt free cleaning bro!
I have slight OCD and suspect that my late Mom had it. She taught me to clean in "units." LOL I still do that, at age 71. One would think while I have the window cleaner out...I'd do all the windows in the house....nope - need to finish a "unit" which means cleaning that ONE room.
That black kitty was so excited to look out that window. You could see the kitty in the reflection of the Tv. ❤❤❤
Can we appreciate the level of care they give to the cats. Such awesome work guys
FYI Mack you could wet sand that drywall patch with a sponge and you don't get drywall dust everywhere and it smooths it out for paint. My husband is a journeyman drywaller with 55 years experience who was born near Chicago. This home is looking great thanks to your spin kicks! And Jason too! It's nice to see people who care for others in their community! 💜💜💜💜💜😊✌👏👏👏🙏👌🐈
I am so glad you posted this! I really hope Mack sees this awesome tip. That's how my dad taught me and it's so much easier and faster. With a bad back/shoulder, everything they can do to make the work easier is worth it in both time saved and wear and tear on the body! Damp sponge = more time for spin kicks and breakdance battles. 😉
Ty for that tip!
And I use those great big yellow sponges made for washing cars. Covers a big area at once!
3M makes Sanding sponges...which work well. They also take limestone stains (water marks) out of porcelain, like toilets. Best to use, though, is a pumice stone.
Wet sanding is a total game changer! Gypsum dust makes my skin crack and my nose bleed, so wet sanding is the only way I can work with drywall anymore.
Firstly, PLEASE do a mug and a t shrt with LIVE, LAUGH DIE on them! Secondly, the tv cabinet is a AMAZING and Menards needs to sponsor you for mentioning and showcasing it.
OMG my dad had the plastic stays on everything disorder and I have the plastic drives me nuts disorder. When he died, I just went around and removed 50 yer old plastic tape all day. 🤣
I am so envious of that you are tall enough to paint the ceiling while standing on the floor.
And what a wonderful and caring transformation.
I'm glad you mentioned how traumatizing it can be when things get moved around or paint is picked out by someone else.
Someone's emotional stability can be so fragile. Thank you!
"Cut the patch and then trim the hole to fit the patch." I feel like you just taught me how to perform magic. Good lord and butter, why didn't anyone say this earlier?
I'm in LOVE with their cats -- watching them supervise you was the cutest thing!
There is a kit you can buy to repair smaller holes. Like from a doorknob. I got one from Benjamin Moore.😀 Love your work!
Just cats doing what they do best! 🤣

I just love when there’s fur babies in fast motion!! 😆
The black cat seemed mesmerized by the new ‘fire place’ in the entertainment center!🐾❤️
we MUST talk about the fact that you are LITERALLY the only other person i’ve ever heard say “Good Lord and butter”. this is a thing i picked up somewhere in college and do not remember where or why, but i still say it all the time and people treat me like im nuts. (i am a little nuts, the fun kind). Do you have any idea where the saying comes from????
He truly is a miracle worker. I wish I knew how to do all these things. But they call me "Doesn't Know How to do Things Annie," back in Carson City.
Thank you, Mack, for stressing that light helps! Neighbors who hadn't trimmed their trees for decades and let them both grow to double the size of a park sized tree - removed them this week. I didn't think I was sad, but the change in me was automatic...I walked around the house smiling, noticing new areas that were "lit" up. I kept thinking I left lights on, but it was just sunshine coming in for the first time in years. Such a huge difference. Now, I'm hoping that the house isn't sold (now vacant) for a tear-down and a 2 story McMansion. Several houses in this area have turned into that monstrosity, including one behind my yard, cutting off all sun to a mature tangerine tree.
I removed two trees from my property because some invasive bugs ate them, but something to balance is the mental price of too much shade versus the financial cost of full sun. My summer AC bill is higher now and the system threatened to break last year. Needed some maintenance due to high load.
This was wonderful. The woman must have been so grateful. Our first apartment was so bad...only thing white was the dried feces in closets, never knew if animal or human. We cleaned and painted. The flees were awful. God has been good to us. 57 years of marriage, and we own our home. Hard work, and remembering where we came from. You truly blessed these people. You're such a good person
I love that you are doing real life fixes - something attainable for the average person. Not everyone can do those HGTV type renovations or some trendy remodel. What you do on your channel is life changing and practical. It's motivated me to take a look at little projects I've put off around my house and spin kick them into submission!
Not only are you teaching Jason new skills, you are teaching him, as well as your other kids, how to be a kind and compassionate human. We can all learn something from you.
What I love about your videos is that you do these changes that makes such a huge difference in their lives. Extreme makeover show has nothing on you.
I have a tip for you (I just remembered these things) -- when you are painting a color on the wall, and you have to prime the wall first, you can have your primer (Killz or Bin) tinted to match the color of the wall paint you are going to use. That way you only have to put one coat of color paint on (usually). Saves time and money.
" well, it's none of your business "..😅 perfect response. I remember once living in a apartment and the guy downstairs was moving out and asked if we could hold onto his massive TV for a week...we had our church stop by to give us food and I was soooo embarrassed that I had this thing..the wonderful thing is...the guy from my church never batted an eye and made no judgment.
Exactly. You never know why someone has something expensive in spite of being poor.
Sometimes it is a gift, or it may be from a time when they were doing better.
You just never know.
@@rdred8693 When I was in high school, I had a bestie who told me about her minister's car being totaled because some crazy driver was running rampant just damaging cars in a parking lot. So he got a Ford Torino out of it and some in his congregation didn't know about the incident so they wondered what a minister was doing driving a Ford Torino (probably back in the '70s).
I'm glad you're open to teaching Jason how to put mascara on ostriches. They deserve to feel pretty too.

yep, cats are comfort magnets -- I have a couple myself.
As someone who also lives in small, rural, Illinois town (about 3 hours south of you), I can 100% relate to the "make do" when you forget something. It's at least a 90 minute round trip to the hardware store to buy stuff. I both hate and love it.. lol 😂
Hi from Canada!
I love the way you reused the old tv stand around the archway. Using what they have and taking their likes into consideration is the best.
Well done sir!!
I agree it was smart to flip the location of the sofa and TV and then use the entertainment cabinet for wall storage. I noticed that when the entertainment center was placed against the wall, the electric outlets became inaccessible. I've learned over the years to always plug a flat-wall or low profile extension cord into outlets before moving large furniture in place (use the two-way/split type behind a bed). It ensures access to the power source without needing to move large pieces. Older homes, in particular, rarely have multiple outlets along each wall so it's usually critical.
Yes, yes, yes! That was genius!
Really putting that "just be 6'4' vibe to work painting the CEILING while standing on the floor lol love it
The gift you've given this family is tremendous. It's life-changing. I hope you and Jason can rest and heal.
Bless you 2 for what you do. It looks so clean and inviting now. It probably lifted their spirits a thousand fold!! And I hope that cat was compensated for all the supervising she did LOL

In the vein of those _"Why TV if no money?"_ comments:
I find it absolutely infuriating when homeless people get judged and dismissed for having *smartphones.*
Not only are used smartphones and some prepaid connections dirt cheap nowadays, a smartphone also works as:
- A phone
- Internet access (news, medical information, entertainment, official matters, bank stuff...)
- Camera (safety, evidence)
- Flashlight
- Calendar
- Alarm clock
- Personal map and GPS navigator
- A weather forecast
- A notepad
Etc etc. Which makes them REALLY frigging useful for homeless people and therefore a worthwhile investment anyway.
Thank you!
Exactly.
Low end smartphones make up the vast majority of the market and they end up getting traded into 2nd hand electronics stores far more often and sold again at an even lower price still.
These days having a smartphone is pretty much a necessity for all types of communication by email, SMS and voice calls.
@@jannajacob219
You hit the nail on the head exactly.
Basic comms are a necessity for those things.
These days phones are even being used for bank card proxies, identification and god only knows what else.
They are becoming so indispensable for basic living that soon they may have to be classed as a basic right unless govmts can figure out some kind of cheaper, simpler alternative.
Absolutely, and if you don’t have much money TV & also games consoles can be a life saver in terms of keeping entertained, you have to factor in cost per use! Do people want less well off people sitting looking at a pile of sticks 🤷
@@Eve181dublin
Unfortunately there literally _are_ people who would deny the less fortunate even the ability _to_ sit and the pile of sticks to look at if they could.
Many of them also try and succeed, like the people who obsessively deduct camp/hideout locations from homeless people's videos on YT and report them to the police or even go there themselves to yell insults from afar, sneak around to spook them, break stuff and harass the homeless out of there. _Or worse._
Many homeless people's channels go completely dark and they're not heard from again. 😞
One of the main reasons I warn any homeless person posting on YT I happen to watch to *_never_* show the location of their shelter or any identifying factors of their location or even where they go to shop, wash etc.
Doubly so if they're young, and quadruple so if they're a woman or non-white.
I love how respectful you are. So kind and respectful ❤
Your work is great and I have a few tips I use. You can reduce sanding by letting the mud start to set and smooth it with a wet sponge. This should cut sanding by 90%.
Drilling a hole and putting the straw from the spray foam in the hole would get the foam in the wall. This will not be perfect but it will help. Then dry wall the hole you made and paint.
My tips are how I do things and I like watching how you and others do things.
Thanks for the "what-to-do-after-you-forgot-to do-it-right" hacks! Better an after-thought option than to NOT DO IT at all.
I think it's better to patch and the wall before doing the foam insulation anyway, it can fill the space.

The last time I went to buy a television the salesman kept trying to talk me into getting one of those TV's with a HUGE screen but I kept telling him no because I had a very clear picture in my mind of what I wanted and it was something a LOT more modest than that. Finally, I got a bit exasperated with him and his high-pressured attempt to sell a monster TV to me and I said, "Look, I live in a house that is so small that if I got a TV that large the only way I could get far enough away from it to see the entire screen at one time is if I went to my neighbor's house to watch it and he and I are not on good enough terms for me to spend every evening sitting in HIS living room watching MY TV." He finally got it and I came away with the TV I planned on getting the whole time.

Putting the old TV stand around the archway may have been logistically necessary, but it worked out like a stroke of genius. Unless you'd seen the room before, you'd never know now that it hadn't always been there on purpose.

Totally agree about color. My Mom died, and I inherited her house. Little by little, I started painting...removing dark wallpapers. Recently, the neighbors who hadn't trimmed their trees for over 40 years, took them both out. Both were taller than park-size trees, cutting off light to my house. I didn't think I was sad or depressed, but the change in me was automatic - I was happier. I kept thinking the kitchen light was on, and it was just sunlight coming in for the first time in decades. I hope my lawn and plants come back now. These people cost my Mom, then me, a lot of money in dying and dead shrubs, trees, sod, etc.

Thank you for helping where you can! Her house did look clean and I'm sure the family is very deserving. I just upgraded to support you a little more. You are a facilitator - helping them to live better.
Thank you!! I hate when people make us feel like we don’t deserve anything because we are poor. We don’t deserve entertainment , joy or gifts simply cause we struggle . We are not allowed to enjoy the fruits of our labor in the way that we want but the way people with more money than us see fit. Godforbid if you are creative and know how to dress well. People never will believe youre struggling and straight up call you a liar just cause one doesn’t look like a sloppy wreck. In the eyes of others in order to be poor we have to be sad, dirty , miserable and no nice things!!! That’s for people with money that are better than us!
People with money will never understand the constant balance of not being able to spend but still trying to make life worth living.
❤️❤️👊
Equating wealth (or lack thereof) with virtue is infuriating.
Right? I'm poor, making less than $1500 a month. But I eat very well. I'm always eating seafood and steak. At least once a week for one or the other. I manage it through store coupon cards, sales, and manager specials. I get a ton of food through BOGO sales. I get decent cuts of steak by waiting for manager specials. Shrimp always seems to be on sale.
My favorite buys this year so far are: a 22-pound turkey for $11, 4-pound pork shoulder for $8, and a $35 shopping trip where I paid $4.75 after all the store coupons. And I love that my store always does a Buy 2, Get 1 Free sale on these bags of frozen ravioli. Spaghetti sauce is always on sale, so I can make a week's worth of food for less than $10.
Those with little money deserve to enjoy life just as much as those with more money.
I'm glad you got a suckless drill!
“Mascara on an Ostrich” 😂 I was not expecting that. You’re great.
It will be so nice that the wife will be able to access the window to open the curtains when it's just her at home. Also love that Jason is learning new skills, because it will save him SOO much money over a lifetime. Sadly not a lot of people know how to do household things anymore.

If he does have OCD it may be possible that he wouldn't like certain textures, and a mask may not help that; BUT there are many different kinds of light-blocking sleep masks, such as silk or cotton! This may be a better compromise so the wife doesn't have to sacrifice her own mental health for his mental health. As of now, lighter curtains that can open are a good first step :)
Manta is an excellent mask for complete blackout. There is a wide range of price points, but the standard one has been my go-to for years. I take my sleep very seriously.
I recently tried sleep masks and honestly, it’s changed my life! I sleep sooooo much better now.
Love how you brought light and life into that house, and so glad the wife of the house liked it. As always, you worked your magic and put your heart into it.
I just want to say how much I appreciate this channel and you & Jason for your amazing hearts. You guys are awesome, and personally, I feel if your channel is definitely one to support, so I became a member today! I wanted to help support your work so you guys could continue to help as many people as possible! Thank you for all you guys do!
Congrats! Welcome !
You will never be disappointed❤❤❤❤❤
My front door "welcome mat" reads: LIVE, LAUGH, LEAVE :-)
My Dad, God rest his soul, used to say “Here’s your hat 🎩 What’s your hurry?” 😉
Moving that big shelf to the wall with the archway makes it look incredible. Such a great choice. Great example of using the assets you already have.
Loved seeing their cat do their part helping you build the tv stand 😂
The way you guys painted that room/ceiling without a dropcloth is just a testament to how professionally your work is. #anothergreatjob!
I love painting ( can no longer but...) and even I didn't notice that. Not a drop cloth in sight! Over not only carpet but all the furniture stayed in place! That is saying something. I was impressed with their skill and speed at cutting in!
It is AMAZING what paint can do! We painted our main living space a really uplifting soft sky blue after years of looking at this awful flesh tone tan that made the whole space feel dinghy. It literally makes me smile every time I walk in there now. 😊
1) I feel like Jason is getting taller. He reached the ceiling too.
2) I love all these transformations. But this ones been my favorite. Its amazing how patching the holes, and painting calms the mind. Organizing even just a few pieces or reducing the abstract mess upgrades the chi.
3) I grew up in poverty with a lot of busted up walls, garbage bags for curtains. .. broken appliances laying about, and junk cars in the yard. That kind of environment does create a feeling in the person who lives there. Its like waking up in a dumpster, how can you possibly put your best foot forward when the bathroom mirror has been broken so only parts remain and broken at that. Then you have a sink that leaks and one side is wrench permanently attached. And dont worry about showering, the hot water heater broke months ago so the water is like ice and you wont even wanna wash up and even if you do, you have no soap or no conditioner. I would walk around cleaning up and organizing and the mentally ill, unwell, drunk adults would walk around undoing what I did. ARGGH!!
4) In my local stores I can buy an enormous TV for like 400 bucks.! I just bought my grandpa a 42 inch for like 180 - for 20 bucks more I could have gone way bigger and 100 more I could have gotten something nearly as big... Its crazy how cheap TVS are.
5) Not everyone who hoards, or is lower income, or has struggles is lazy. Sometimes, life showed up in layers and as a community of tribal people we are not meant to go at life alone. We should step in before things get wildly out of control to support one another. The fact you guys come in and save the day a bit is just telling how disconnected we are at times. We all need each other.
Finally - I remember a neighbor was in an accident. I dropped off a bit of food and items from time to time. I then paid a bill, and put some gas in their car. Point is that I would hope that if I was hurt that people would support my child this way. Anways its not like I need brownie points but what kind of society do you want to live in? The kind that helps? Or treats others lives like a spectator sport?
Lastly Thank you. Im coming out of a horrible few years. It was so hard doing this all alone. Anyways... Thank you .. I have been watching this videos to help boost my motivation.
The fact that a dog has so much anxiety it tries to chew it's way out of the house tells you a lot (assuming it's not a puppy).😮 I feel for the home owners. It's hard to find good roommates.
Jason is lucky to have a dad like you who can teach him how to put mascara on an ostrich
You renew my faith in humanity. In giving of ourselves we make the world a nicer place.🌞
This was a brilliant transformation and the two of you had the cutest little supervisors ever. 😊
The butt print on the wall would be a unique idea, haha. Great video. Thanks for helping this family.
His calling card, for every home he works on. 😉😆
Painting is really hard on neck too..great job..I'm stunned how not messy you guys paint! I just splash the paint everywhere!!
You teaching Jason is so wholesome and adorable and just plain fantastic. Those are skills I wish I had myself as a homeowner!
Keep up the awesome, the humor, and the spin kicks.
These videos are the only thing I could ever watch an hour of that wasn’t an actual movie. You’re doing so well and making those peoples lives change forever. They will spread kindness to others because you’ve inspired them and given them the joy and energy back in their lives. Every kind thing you do will be passed on through the people you’ve helped and it’s making the world a better place. Showing us in this format also inspires us to do more to help each other and ourselves. Thank you for taking the time to help make our world a little bit better even though you have your own life and problems. Even if you randomly decide to retire today I hope you’ll always the pride and the satisfaction that comes with knowing you did your best and that you made a difference.
❤️❤️👊
I loved how her fur babies supervised you both all day.
