    Boost is the cure for high elevation. I would still take the V8.

  • @MrRGiller

    I don't purchase a truck to drag race but want a good, V-8, like the 5.3 or 6.2 to get the job done. Don't get me wrong, I am sure the Ecoboost is a great motor but I personally, prefer a V-8. I am old school.

      Roy Giller Same here, nothing against ford but just I can't stand the ecoboost.

      @MrRGiller 7 лет назад +5

      I have researched the Ecoboost motors and the Ecoboost motors don't get much better than my V-8. The 5.0 is a good engine that Ford puts out. I agree about having turbo charge with a diesel engine.

    If anyone is interested to see a 0-60 run closer to sea level, I have a video of a 2017 Silverado 1500 Crew Cab 6.2 V8 8-speed without the max trailering package (so I have 3.23 axle). I ran 5.86 0-60. Using AIM SOLO GPS data logger.

    does tfltruck intend to ever test the truck at lower elevation? I enjoy watching these videos but I'm curious how much different the results are at near sea level where many of us actually use our trucks.

    • @smarticus6384
      @smarticus6384 7 лет назад +1

      matt Overall times between these two trucks might be a bit closer at sea level but the results would likely be the same. I doubt the "factory tuned" EcoBoost engine apply higher boost psi to compensate for the less air density at altitude, therefore its performance is also affected, albeit less so than the na engine. Turbo charging certainly isn't new but it's still nice to see American engine manufacturers finally looking beyond 1950's technologies, especially for its mass production.

    • @01droptopls1
      @01droptopls1 7 лет назад

      matt Exactly! Or at least apply the density altitude calculation to the results. Because not only does elevation affect but so does humidity, air temp, etc. Boosted engines are far less affected from elevation, proven time and time again.

    The GM 6.2 at sea level can run a 0-60 in 5.8 seconds that is a big difference compared to your results. Not fair to compare a naturally aspirated Engine vs a turbocharged engine at that elevation. I love TFL but not fair it needs to be fair

      Articles I’ve read have new eco’s Running low to mid 5’s 0-60 mph motor trend to name one. 6.2L is a great engine as well though. My close second choice.

    • @adamkessler6119
      @adamkessler6119 6 лет назад

      GM must like the idea 💡 because for 2019 they have a 2.7L turbo 4cylinder going in sierra’s & Silverado’s. These engines are the future. 🇺🇸

    • @DragonKnightX12
      @DragonKnightX12 5 лет назад

      Adam Kessler Well the Ford also benefits by being overall lighter.
      Less weight to get moving so even the 5.0 is almost as quick as the 6.2.
      Though the Vortec 6.2L is a pretty impressive design. It actually beats the 3.5 in real world mpg because of the advanced cylinder deactivation that lets the engine run down to as much as two cylinders.
      It’s also very light weight for a V8, a lot lighter than both Ford’s and Dodge’s V8 offerings.
      Corvettes with the same motor can get up to 30 mpg.
      The 2.7 is more or less an economy engine. Good for the people that don’t need or want the power of a V8 but still want a big truck.
      I wouldn’t say it’s the future yet, between their trucks and performance cars, GM has proven time and time again that the ol’ push rod V8 is still very viable.
      Now if only Chevy could get designs back in order.

    got rid of the ECO boost, good gas mileage, good power ...may be fine for riding but if you do much pulling particularly around hills or mountains you will not be happy...and when you try to file warranty issues they will tell you that they are not designed for that and resist warranty work.... just not designed to be wahat a truck should be.....which is tough.

      Everyone always says that but there is much more to it than just adding a supercharger. Many people have tried that on their LS engines and realize that they need to beef up other components to handle the power. Ford designed the 3.5 for boost applications. Either way they are both great motors...you are always gonna have a fanboy for each company. You cant go wrong with either.

    lol all the butthurt about the ford beating the chevy.......Who Cares? they are both great trucks. Again these tests are completed so high up. The majority of is live much closer to sea level. Tfl is great. But these tests have very different results run at altitude vs sea level. For the majority of us at sea level and looking at making a new purchase you really need to bare that in mind.

  • @SK-pn1pe

    I actually believe this...when you throw turbos on an engine like Ford did, you will almost always win a comparison like this.....however, the verdict is still out on what those engines are going to be like after 150k miles. When you push a V6 engine for every drop of power you can get using tech.....longevity will be lost.

    If you want to give this package real run for its money against a Ford double cab, you can order a double cab SLT with a 6.2 max tow haul package, the max tow haul package, you get 373 gear ratio and you'll burn the tires off the rim.
    Then you'll pass everything but a gas station... of course to really put the nail in the coffin get yourself a Diablo programmer turn off AFM and put the 93 octane code in

    Anyone have any cold start issues with the Chevy 6.2L?? Me and my siblings bought one for my dad as a birthday gift last year. Has horrible engine knocking sound during cold starts enough that we have complained to Chevy and they are buying it back via lemon law... we asked around all dealerships and they said all 6.2 make that noise! Is this true? My dad is currently looking at a 5.3 Silverado because of this.

    • @adamkessler6119
      @adamkessler6119 6 лет назад

      Oh man I hope this is not a wide spread problem because it’s the only GM engine I’d consider. It’s powerful, fun and efficient. The other engines are kinda boring. At compared to the ecoboost’s according to tests I’ve watched and read. The 6.2L is Fords closest competition.

    • @AllanTerabyte
      @AllanTerabyte 5 лет назад

      I use my 2017 6.2l GMC as a daily driver, and have cold started the engine multiple times in below -40*C winters. I've had zero engine knock, takes an extra second to get up and running, and there is almost no difference in sound and time to start when I plug in the engine block heater when a plug is available. Although the engine seems to sometimes harmonize with the frame of the truck when idling cold or hot. The little extra vibration from time to time is annoying, but acceptable for me personally when considering you have over 400hp under the hood.

  • @ThomasFG
    @ThomasFG 7 лет назад

    10 gears is just obnoxious, 8 speeds are more than sufficient. I'd hate to see how often that 10 speed breaks down being co-developed between Ford 😂
    But the sad fact is Ford still use a dated 6 speed transmission across the board - i say that because it's not a Ford only transmission
    Give me a pushrod V8 anyday over an EcoBoost
    They have alot of issues as it is, typical though
    Can never beat a GM/Chrysler OHV V8
    Afterall quad cams (well twin cam heads with 4 valves per cylinder are more outdated than OHV)
    Considering Dusenberg had DOHC 4 valve per cyl engines long before OHV came out 😂😂

      +D.J. Wheaton, Agreed. Unfortunately, GM doesn't offer a higher performance model at this time. In theory they could easily offer the 6.2 with a supercharger or a smaller V8 or V6 with a turbo but I don't see that happening. With this model you might be able to get a shorter rear end (4.11?) that would enhance acceleration. I was looking at a 6.2 a couple years back and there were a few rear end options but the truck it self was special order due to CAFE limitations. I believe you can find the 6.2 on dealer lots now.

    I'll take a 3.5 ecoboost any day over a v8 car motor that have re-tuned for a truck. If you buy a truck you want it to tow and the ecoboost is a better motor to tow with period. Peak torque down low and a flat torque curve. Hell with spinning a v8 at 4000 RPMs up a hill when I can lope along at 2500 RPMs in a ecoboost.

      88MS88 look at the race they did with the old raptor with the 6.2l and the new one. the only reason the new one won is because of the turbos and that's a Fact.

    It’s pointless watching TFL 0-60 vids because these fools are a mile above sea level lol. Idk why they even waste their time making them.
