Wow Ms. Jessica beautifully, succinctly said. You led me to remember after my wife and I moved to our new home I was 39 years old with 4 kids when I planted a Fuji apple tree in our new beautiful backyard. While watering in the tree I suddenly realized, "Oh.....my.....God, one day my grandchildren might be eating apples from this tree." Now, near 30 years later, all four of my grandchildren have eaten, in abundance, from this magnificent Fuji apple tree. May God Bless your farm.

That's right. He didn't put is in a crowded, polluted city, living one atop another. He told Adam to tend the garden. It was only after Cain's sin entered, after he left, that the first city and all its vices were created. When you go to Revelation, it tells us we'll once again be tending our own gardens in heaven, so His plan never changed. God is consistent.

The Bible says that “God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control.” Thank you also for saying that anyone would be welcome at your table too. Jess, this is one of my favorite videos!!! My husband and I can't have children and always knew we were going to adopt. I felt the heart sick and the urgency over children that I didn't even know if they existed in the world. From 2018 to 2019 I kept telling my husband that our children were out there and something was wrong and I could feel it. In the summer of 2019 we took in three little girls (ages 1.5, 4, & 5), their circumstances were unimaginably horrible. The foster/adoption process was terrifying I didn't know if at some point I would have to give these children back into the situation that they came from. I was living in so much fear and I felt broken. I turned to God because I had done what I knew to do and it didn't feel like enough. I also found your videos it helped get me through some of the hard times and dive more into my interests of having a homestead. I've always wanted a homestead but all of it is new to me. For the first time last year I started a garden and I listened(read) through the Bible mostly while I tend to the garden.
This year I am reading through the Bible again but this time with a little more study focused. I'm doubling the size of my garden this year! Best of all we adopted the girls 3 days before Christmas last year!!! We get the honor of raising these little ones in a lifestyle that is going to give them the space to work through their past trauma and to grow abundantly in God's grace.
Thank you for your dedication to your lifestyle and to God! You have helped me in the garden but you have also helped me bring faithfulness to God and peace into our lives.

      Morgan, I love your story.
Your kiddos have empty places that only Jesus can fill.
If you try to fill it you will be left empty.
Trust Him and walk closely with Him and you will have plenty to pour out.
I remember the day when I came to the realization that I could never be enough for our adopted children. It broke my heart and healed it at the same time.
I couldn't fill the place that was left empty by their mothers. I wasn't designed to do that.
But, I could keep them safe, fed and warm and that is where healing can begin. Bless you. "Some weird lady on the internet who thinks she knows what you need and is likely wrong."

Congratulations on the adoption of your beautiful little family. My parents fostered many years ago. They ended up with four children they adopted as well as their own biological children. These four kids had been through pretty bad situations. But all of them ended up growing into beautiful people who went on to have good lives and families. One of these children was my favourite and as adults we had a lot to do with each other until she died suddenly in her sleep. She was only in her 50s and I still miss her every day. Don’t ever let anyone tell you that children who have been through a dreadful start will never get to be normal. Your love and attention will give them the adult life that they deserve God bless You

God didn't give us the power to create babies either. We're in the process of adopting a brother (11) and sister (7) now. There were a lot of horrible foster stories that we heard, but these two... their biological parents could be a whole series of Criminal Minds, including a disgusting delusion by the father that he's Jesus and can do whatever he wants. We were very pleased when we took them to church for the first time, and their history DIDN'T make them uncomfortable hearing others talk about Jesus.

Thank you Jess for all you have done :) Because of your encouragement, I'm just starting my third year as a gardener, here where I am, in my tiny space, without fear about what can go wrong :) Plants what to grow, don't they? :)
On the other hand, I live in Poland and there is WAR in Ukraine, our neighbor. There are countless fundraisings and collections of things that are needed for refugees and for people who stayed in Ukraine. But one priest got the info that people who stayed have no chance to buy seeds so he call on facebook: "guys, we need seeds to send them to people in Ukraine, so they can feed themselves". The reaction was overwhelming. After a few days, he has over 10000 packages of seeds, and it is not the end. Seeds companies are "in", one is sending two pellets of seeds. This week all these treasures will be sent to Ukraine.
It is so strong remainder how important it is to know how to grow food. And to save seeds (thank you Jess for teaching how to!).
    Good bless you :*

When my garden failed in 2019 because I was so busy with work and couldn't care for it I resolved that there would be no garden in 2020. It wasn't worth the stress. Imagine my delight when God said "no, you will garden" and I was temporarily laid off because of Covid shutdowns from March-June 2020. Guess what I did.. I started all the seeds I had and built an amazing garden. A week after everything was planted I got called back to work. The success I had that year sparked my joy for the garden again and now I can't imagine not having one, no matter how difficult or busy life gets. The garden must be made a priority. The sense of urgency is strong and real. This is the time we will grow, not only food, but in our faith and our community with each other. Thank you Jess for always being authentic and bold.

I am so glad you are talking about this. Thank you. It is kind of funny my neighbor’s granddaughter (13) came to say hello yesterday and the conversation carried over to grow a garden. She said am no good at growing vegetables. I said you can and we will come with a plan. Pick a sunny location. We will make a little plot and fence it to keep the creeters out. Nothing fancy 4 pallets together is all you need. I ask her to pick 3 vegetables she liked. She picked tomatoes, cucumbers and corn. So I told her I was growing those veggies from seeds and that I will give her the plants to plant and she will take care of them and nurture them so that she can harvest and enjoy her hard work.

I love that you pointed out how you can do even small things, like keeping quail. I think people look at the current industrial food system, overwhelmed, and think that there's no way backyard gardens can replace it. But that shouldn't be the goal! We must dream bigger and more creative than that! I want to grow and eat food while repairing the soil biome. I want to grow flowers for the bugs and pollinators and birds. I want to be in community so that my instinct will always be to share food rather than hoard it. I will not grow food in a fear mindset, I will grow food in an abundance mindset. I believe another food system is possible.

Whew Jess, the lord is using you today. I love hearing about the story of how you got started and I’ve always wanted to talk to you about. In 2019, I believe God put it in my heart to start a farm. I went out and got some chicks and started a garden. As Covid started and things got worse, it was made more apparent that this was God’s will and not my own. I didn’t understand why he wanted me to do this. How does this serve your kingdom? I’m not ministering, I’m not singing on the worship team, etc. How is starting a farm doing your work? Watching your videos helped me see the how; how growing food can grow his kingdom and create a community and share his love. This year, my stepdad came to me about starting his own garden and I feel so honored. I can’t wait to share what I know and teach others. Bless you, Jess. God was definitely speaking through you today and I hope you share more of that because it’s so encouraging and I can feel his presence.

I have almost the same exact experience. I went from eating McDonalds every day to wanting a garden and now we have hens too. I heard His voice loud and clear last July. I was led to do a lot of study and prayer. It was shown to me the Most High God is marking His people before the prophesies that are written in the Bible are fulfilled. Ezekiel 9:4 and Rev 9:4 As in the days of Noah so shall the final days be. I believe with all my heart this is where we are at now. I’m not even a subscriber to this channel. My wife has been for a while and told me Jess is basically saying the same thing I’ve been telling her I’m feeling. This “pull”...

I don’t know where you are located but.. if you are a reasonable distance from any land or farms, drive the areas, look for land and farms that appear that they are not being used. Find out who owns the land / farm, talk to them, introduce yourself and who you are, what you do and what you are looking for. Propose a lease situation for 1 to 2 acres of the farm / land to start with for a food plot garden. If accepted clear out brush and overgrowth, make the area nice, keep it clean and nice and give the owner some vegetables. Who knows, could lead to a lifetime lease situation and better yet possibly first right of refusal to buy the farm if and when the owner decides to sell.

Thank you for taking a positive yet grounded approach to the conversation. I watch MANY other vlogs, a few that are hell bent on setting everyone into a tizzy and just pushing fear and a sense of urgency and insecurity that will make people so afraid they won't be able to function. We need to be proactive and supportive of others. Prepare YES but panic NO! Panic will only set a bad domino effect into play. We all need to take up for ourselves and help those around us that we can. We need to check in on our elderly and disabled and get back to the community-based approach on things. The phrase "it takes a village" will be for so many aspects of our lives. Pray, believe in the Lord and ourselves. We will get through things together as long as people stop their negative agendas and get back to basics and community. We can survive like our great grandparent and grandparents did by knowing how to take care of ourselves by growing our own food, sharing with others and believe we can and will get through this!

As much as I love the skills I already have in making my own food I’m focusing a lot on learning to harvest things from nature. There are a lot of “weeds” growing everywhere containing more nutrition than some of the vegetables that frequent the American table. That way if I cannot afford to grow I can still harvest. Just as our bodies are designed to survive the earth is designed to provide and thrive. We are amazing beings on a plentiful planet. I hope to live to see the day we nurture ourselves, each other, and our planet. It would be a glorious day

Beautiful talk sister! I heard the message back in 2017. I always follow the inner voice, the flow of the heart not the head. As a Native woman, many, many of my Elders from around the world have seen the same. I remind people what this country did during WWII. The Victory Garden campaign worked. Yes it takes work to make a garden, but the joy in seeing your food pop up around you is not something you can ever buy. No matter how much money you have. Prayers up for everyone and I already decided my extra garden plants will go to those who need them for free. Creator brought me the money for everything to grow them, so it is easy for me to share. Hold each other tight, reach out to people around you. Help each other through this. No one is or ever can be an island by themselves and survive. It takes community. You have a beautiful heart sister, and funny enough planting flowers was important for me this year too. We need some joy smiling back at us! Prayers up!

I understand all too well how you felt. I am still in the waiting. I'm hoping and praying and believing that God will bless me with my farm. It is so much apart of who I am. I have to grow. I try to grow as much as i can wherever I can. I live with a friend who had an extra room when I needed a place to live. I have a dream of a very special farm for many to enjoy and ve blessed by. There are days when I get so depressed because after so many years of waiting hopelessness creeps in. Your story increases my hope that God can still bring my blessing of my farm. It will be called Place of Grace not only because of my own name but that it will be through the grace of God that this farm exists. It will also be a place of Grace for many people. Love you guys. Blessings onto you.

I have also had that voice tell me to do “X”. I kind of ignored the literal “X”, because “X” was “build a bunker.” It was weird. I chose the figurative rather than the literal approach to this task. A physical bunker isn’t going to do anything if I can’t grow food, fix stuff, make stuff and stay in tune. My goal is not to do all this to hunker down…it is with the hope I can help others through tough times.

Beautifully said young lady!! I'm an 84 year old women who has lived a full life and actually loved my outdoors and gardening since I was very young. My age tells you that my young gardening days were very needed during the war and as a young adult having to switch to the needs of my family education, marriage, young children and still having to work to help with a husband in his education, never kept me from hope. My Father in heaven has always walked beside me through all the pit falls that were there. Your video today not only touched my heart but I am sure it has touched many others. I do have hope with my endeavors in my garden will give me the opportunity to share an abundance of foods to my family, neighbors and to those in need. I live with my daughter so there are only 2 of us and my extended family can't believe that I have planted so much and all from seeds I have saved. Thanks to your teaching me...But I have an abundance of seedlings just waiting to planted. But as I tend to these little plants my hope grows that my example is being observed by others that we are here for a purpose to serve and I feel mine at this time is my life is to make each day count and refine my hope and faith. Thank you for the love you have shown through your example!

Please pray for me as I try and start my seeds out indoors for the first time in my life. I've grown outside and have had success and failures, but over a few years of growing experience, I think I can do this. We are growing our home garden to double maybe triple the size I already have. I have such an " I NEED TO DO THIS" right now feeling that at times it's overwhelming, but seeing the grocery store shelves, and the huge price hikes show me that we actually need to do this. I don't care if all I get is green beans for the year.....😉

I have watched most of your videos since 2019. I've always been intrigued by most of the content you cover, gardening, permaculture, cooking and a slower pace of life. What I've found over time is that I pick up and drop other content producers but I always keep coming back to roots and refuge. Not just because you have great teachings, but mostly because of what this video is about. The sense of kindness, peace and refuge that you provide. There is a light in you that shines so brightly, and that light is your care and blessing for everyone else. It gives others strength and plants the seeds of hope in them. Making you a gardener of the soil and of the heart. I don't believe the way you do, but I know in my knower that this is what was intended for you.

I have watched thousands of RUclips videos and I have never commented before but I want you to know that this video went straight to my heart! I know exactly what you're talking about and ironically enough I was struck with the same urgency to be prepared and start a homestead back around 2014. For me it still hasn't come together as an option, "I'm still in the books store" so to speak "thinking it's impossible" but it hasn't gone away and I don't think it will. I told my daughter this morning "I'm torturing myself watching Jess build my dream life" and then this video came up. I'm spiritual, not specifically Christian, but I think you are an angel, and I think you may have just delivered a message from god. Thank you Jess! Thank you for all that you are doing.

I am a 3rd year gardener, and you speak truth! You always do. I have a book recommendation for you, a book I guarantee you will love. It is next to yours on my table, used daily. “How to Grow More Vegetables (and fruits, nuts, berries, grains, and other crops) Than You Ever Thought Possible on Less Land With Less Water Than You Can Imagine” by John Jeavons. His mission is EXACTLY what this vlog is about. It is the gardening ‘bible’ used by the botanical garden where I now volunteer. He has developed this philosophy and process called bio-intensive gardening, which builds soil over time. Check it out, Jess! John Jeavons is your kind of people and his guide is amazing! You and John Jeavons are my mentors, my teachers, my inspiration. 🙏❤️🙏

Dear young lady, you are a very enlightened girl. You are doing a great thing. I’m so happy I found your channel. Your words really resonate with me! I can’t take my religion off at the door either but I love, feed, and support all.
This is my first visit to your channel and I’m grateful for your courage because it seems there’s a lot of hate towards Christians lately. I have been prepping for 25 years but in the last 2 years I’ve taken it to the next step to grow my own food because food storage runs out and I have felt/heard the Holy Spirit move in my heart to tell me I need to get growing. I LOVE being out in my little garden, being in the soil and compost. Planting, creating life. I love it! It’s imperative to grow our own food and have enough in storage to last at least until the next crop. I have felt the urgency too. I want to actually get a farm, and not just have my small suburban plot around my house that is severely limited by the HOA. I want animals and more space to grow. I have such respect for homesteaders and long for it. I’m 55 years old. My kids are all adults and they don’t want it, so it’ll all be up to me which is not great because I have health issues. I’ll need to buy a farm that is already established so there’s less work for me to do to get started. Right now I’m using containers only, even though they’re very large home built wood containers, they aren’t big enough. It’s incredible what you’re saying because this is me! I too can’t make it happen alone. I’m not going to be able to take care of all of it on my own. God put this dream on my heart so I know He’ll take care of it. He’s going to have to figure this out and do this for me because He wants me doing it. He told me to be open and prepared mentally because when the day comes that He says it’s time, I gotta be mentally prepared to go. I am. I’m ready. I’m just waiting on God now. May his will be done.
P.S. I am single. I’m honestly hoping a husband falls out of the sky and lands on my porch who wants to do this with me and we can be farmin’ partners and do it together. God bless you!

I love that you talked about anxiety in the grocery store. I thought it was just me. Since I’ve transitioned to shopping 80% locally it has calmed down because it’s going to a farm, or going to our small local grocery store.
