The Harmful Effects Of Glyphosate, The Most Common Agrochemical

  • We’re living in an age where it’s increasingly hard to avoid exposure to toxins. Some of the most ubiquitous are right on our food, on some of the most commonly eaten items in the American diet. It’s no wonder that illnesses related to toxicity, like cancer, infertility, and neurological diseases, are on the rise. The most widely used pesticide in our food supply is glyphosate. It’s used all over the world on more than 70 different food crops, including corn, soy, and wheat and is linked to some serious health risks, including non-Hodgkin lymphoma. It’s terrifying to consider that a bowl of Cheerios has more glyphosate per serving than vitamins D and B12, both of which are added to try to boost nutritional value.
We need to change our food system if we want to change our health, and it’s issues like these that need our help. I was so happy to sit down with my good friend Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to dig into the topic of glyphosate and corruption in the agricultural industry. Bobby Kennedy serves as President of Waterkeeper Alliance, Chairman of the Board and Chief Legal Counsel for Children’s Health Defense, and of counsel to Morgan & Morgan, a nationwide personal injury practice. He was previously Chief Prosecuting Attorney for the Hudson Riverkeeper, Senior Attorney for the Natural Resources Defense Council, and a Clinical Professor and Supervising Attorney at Pace University School of Law’s Environmental Litigation Clinic.

I have immense trust in Robert Kennedy Jr. My father was a foreman for GE in Pittsfield Ma. They buried massive PCBs there and many died. My father and another man cleaned out PCB vats and the other man was overcome by fumes, fell in and died. My father got skin cancer. THen they claimed they didn't know PCBs were toxic and moved to NY state. I have total respect for him going after GE when later they polluted the Hudson. Corporations kill many people with their attitude of money over lives. They need to be held accountable. Robert Kennedy Jr has my vote for president.

Years ago I lived outside Hood River, Oregon which is known for all the apple orchards. It is a relatively small town and some of the orchards butted up next to small strip malls and parking lots.
One morning on my way to drop off my toddler at daycare before work I had stopped at my husband's job first which meant taking my son out of his car seat to take him in with me. The crop dusters were out that morning which wasn't unusual. What was unusual was that on this morning the pilot didn't flip off the spray as he approached the parking lot. I don't believe it was intentional, just daydreaming or something
Both my son and I who were crossing that parking lot at that time got dosed.
By the next morning both of us were sick and by that afternoon I had begun to miscarry at a little over 5 months along.
Don't know how many of my health issues are related directly to that exposure or whether from the years of eating so many highly processed foods.

I grew up around aviation and learned to drive alike rally racing flagging for up to three cropdusting planes at a time, even flew under low power-lines cramped in one. I recall just trying to understand Mankind's insidious use of chemicals at the time, now I think generational harm. I have an off-topic question, I've always kept tabs of aircraft crashes and noticed recently about spacial disorientation, and getting the feeling that it is a taboo subject. Of all the people that I've flown with, I don't recall ever being told about it and I soloed on my sixteenth birthday. Does ego mask the instruments? I flew many hours before being tall enough to see over them, flying at night with no navigation lighting, and long term white-out. I don't get it, how does one slowly spiral in? And, how do ya'll cope with being exposed? I've had some scary encounters where painted surfaces start turning into chrome, and in awe of the speed of defoliants.

Glyphosate, was invented in the early 60s as an industrial boiler de-scaler. It's a broad spectrum chelator (kee-late-or), a mineral magnet. It dissolves minerals and makes minerals in food un available to the body. Between vitamins and minerals, minerals are 2/3rds of what the body needs. Specifically, if prevents the production of an enzyme (an enzyme is a protein with a metal molecule at its core)... a detox enzyme that has an iron molecule at its core, thereby causing cancer indirectly.
By the late 60s, it was bottled for cracks in the sidewalk etc, but it got serious in the 90s when 5 crops were genetically modified to tolerate Roundup so that the crop could be sprayed, and all weeds died except the crop.
Also, glyphosate is patented as an antibiotic, and as a crop desiccant (dries wheat crops so as to go through the combine easier), and is applied to (non organic) potatoes to prevent sprouting.
The five crops modified genetically are soy, canola, corn, sugar beets, and alfalfa.
Being an anti-biotic, it is likely the cause of gluten intolerance, via gut perforation know caused by antibiotics, and thereby letting larger foreign proteins into the blood stream thereby causing autoimmune disorder.

My farming husband became sick in 2012. Leading up to that he had unusual health problems which I didn’t not see the connection. Backwards and forwards to our family Dr for two years, eventually the Dr had a student in the surgery when my husband came in and she suggested a test that hadn’t been done. Long story short he had an over production of Cortisol that was causing a lot of problems.
Sent off to see an endocrinologist. He was diagnosed with Cushings disease. Several trips to the city to visit her and eventually they decided to remove his adrenal glands and pituitary gland. Terrible to watch him with this battle. On a massive amount of medication for the rest of his life which ended in 2018, he was 57 years old.
He used Glyphosate religiously on our property, he was very casual when spraying despite me begging him to wear protective gear. I could not stand the smell, would make me ill.
I’m convinced now that this product was responsible. His autopsy suggests the Cushings and then apparently Addison disease took his life.😔

I always wanted to learn about how this Monsanto thing went down. You never hear about it now in 2024. Thank you Kennedy.
When I worked at the Missouri Botanical Garden in 1994-1998, there was a huge push for genetically altered food and it was seen as a new miracle. Monsanto was working with the garden and a huge supporter of it. One of my jobs was with the catering company, and we were asked to pull the competition's artificial sweetener from the tables because Monsanto wanted to just have theirs available. Thats how much pull they had over the entire garden. And someone had to notice that and get back to Monsanto who then demanded it. Creepy, the whole thing.

Brookfield: unfortunately for you, you seem at present to be extremely ignorant or uneducated on this topic, according to the specific words that you freely chose to use in order to comment in reply with.
You are only slightly or particularly correct or right, but not entirely, in fact.
Consider this well-known fact to those who are at least even somewhat knowledgeable on the details of this subject:
Some organics use pesticides, but not all. Many, actually, do not. There's on fact a rapidly-increasing "Green Thumb" or "Back to the earth/ land", privately-owned, local (wherever your particular, immediate, rural, community is) organic farmers movement spreading across the United States of America right now, at this very moment, as we "speak", or text.
I've watched more than one, PBS TV episode of the excellent, informative program "[American or] National Farm Report", broadcast out of the great state of Georgia, on this growing, encouraging phenomenon spreading all throughout this Great Nation of ours (that I referred to above), over the past 5 years or more. I tune in every Saturday morning early, about 5:00 or 6:00 a.m., Eastern Standard Time here in SW TN, & I watch & pay close attention & listen careful to, & sometimes even take down my own handwritten notes from, for wise tips to use on my own housing complex's community garden & vegetable plants.
Gross or general statements like the one you just texted are statistically, usually false, exaggerated, or inaccurate, & taken away out of their original context, & are often rife with myths, misinformation, popular-culture propaganda or urban-legend/ superstition, not proven fact, &/ or just plain lies. Always check your sources. To turn a common phrase: "Verify, then trust." Not the other way around.
Two real-world current examples, or cases-in-point, that I've personally, firsthand, eyewitnessed myself:
A good close friend of mine, I've known for a few years, who lives near me, is an organic farmer as a side hobby, to his day job, & he does not use any pesticides: just simply clean, chemical free, & homegrown, local produce. He privately grows hydroponics, as well as fruit & vegetables crops at his house on his large land plot, & gives them away to friends.
Also, my grown stepson grows his own, local, organic vegetables in his large garden at his house, he his fruit trees he planted there, & even raises chickens for eggs. He doesn't use any animal growth- hormones or any pesticides, either. All natural, & chemical free.
Watch what you say about whole groups of people or things: they're not all the same. Individuals are often very different from each other.
      'Nuff said.

Out of 4 children, I have a 9 year old son with celiac disease. His great grandmother(mother's side) was diagnosed with the same, sometime prior. We were told that it was "hereditary" by the doctor, and his great grandmother even went to the lengths of blaming herself. However, she did not develop celiac until she hit her mid 70s - she died in her 80s. I was never satisfied with the "hereditary" claim when I knew there were other factors to rule out: diet, vaccinations, etc. I am so angry with these food corporations for the obvious damage they have done to our loved ones. I've recently began a one month test of eating zero wheat...further, grain, on myself to lower inflammation and further see how I feel overall. Our entire family has been having discussions about a family-wide diet change from wheat, and not just having the one beloved child seem singled out. The importance of these topics of how glyphosate has and is destroying both human and soil microbiomes to what cleptopracy has done to are democracy draws so many parallels and symbolism from these interellated events that the true significance of this knowledge dissemination/interview will only be truly understood far after it is to late perhaps.

On Dec 14, 2022, there’s an updated article named “Vinegar: An Alternative to Glyphosate” written by a person from the Univ of Maryland, which says under the Toxicity heading,
“Because glyphosate does not leach through soil and has low mammalian toxicity, it has been considered to be very safe toxicologically and environmentally, with hundreds of studies showing the active ingredient to be less acutely toxic than common table salt or aspirin”.
This is about a study using vinegar as an alternative. I wonder why they put that sentence in.
Even in this National Pesticide Information Center in the 2013 6th Edition says glyphosate has a low toxicity rate. But scientists from the WHO reported that it is ‘probably’ carcinogenic.
    Unbelievable! Enough from me!
One more: In 2015, the EPA found that glyphosate did not pose a cancer risk to humans. Few of these agencies do their job to protect Americans. The Fbi and DOJ target us, the people! Grr! All bought and paid for!

Let’s change America to be healthy….. with improved nutritional food, organics, non-GMO’s, no glycophosphates! Let’s stop all this chemical toxin exposure…thank you Mr Kennedy. This dr loves you

    Open and transparent.
Pro-choice. But understands that this is a difficult emotional issue!
Wants to discuss deep issues of regulatory capture, was an environmental lawyer and understands environmental protection. Concern of food-glycophoshates. Why so many kids sick?
I’d like the 1986 vaccine gov ruling overturned !!!

As a farmer who is certified organic, I agree that the chemicals can be very harmful. However, I also think the scientist who developed them had good intentions. Roundup can be used in a way that is positive, and actually makes the environment better.
My reasoning is that tillage combined with bare ground is by far the worse possible thing we can do to our soil. Corn is baked in to our ag system and food supply chain. We’re not getting rid of it, nor should we. Roundup makes growing corn with cover crops much more feasible.
Every other crop that I produce is very competitive in yield with the non organic crops in my area. No tillage, controlled traffic farming on contour, planted into green cover crops that are mechanically terminated with a roller crimper. All done with precision technology, it’s truly a wonder what can be done. But, my corn yields are roughly 1/2.
Their are many other variables that contribute to my losses. I grow considerably shorter season corn than what is common where I farm. I grow two 75 day non hybrid varieties. An 84 day hybrid, and an 89 day hybrid, and I grow the parent seed for all my hybrid corn using non patented seed stock sourced from land grant universities and have been experimenting with for over 20 years.
Most of the harm from round up is in how hard the sales reps push its use. It’s a very valuable tool in the war chest of any farmer looking to steer their operation towards regenerative methodology. During a light hearted debate with a neighbor I convinced him to cut his use to 15% on strips and run a trial, see how it works. He has since done so across the board. That is very much the trend with all farms in todays day and age. In the past, application was done way above the rate of what the mechanism of usefulness of the product could possibly perform.
I strongly believe their is a space in between where I am, and where conventional agriculture is at, that we will reach over the next 10-20 years. I’m not going to ask farmers to bet the farm and go all in like I did. The organic market has been over run with opportunist who grow substandard product with lower nutritional density than conventional ag products. The money isn’t here any more. Their are a few of the few who will pay for nutritional value in their food. I own 5900 acres and rent another 4800, when I was paying for those acres I own, I was getting 3-4 times the revenue of a conventional farm, all with 1/2 the overhead. Things were really good there for awhile.
The most important take away from this interview is that the problem is corporatism. Folks, we need them way less than you think. Whenever possible, stay local, stay family business scale. I’m a die hard anarcho capitalist who votes republican because I hate them less. In short, I’m a true liberal. So we’re RFK and JFK.
