- The re-release of the classic 1880-1943 foundation of Jim Beam hits the Vault as Rex & Daniel try to answer business calls mid-review.
Thanks to John P. McElwain for the bottle. Cheers ya MB!
That toll free call thing was hilarious 🤣
rex was like a kid waiting for a parent to finish a conversation with someone they ran into on the street
the slide down the arm of the couch really sold it
South Texas prices Jim Beam Bonded $21, Old Tub $18, love the price down here & love Jim beams yearly releases such as the repeal batch, distillers choice and now the old tub so affordable and so delicious in my opinion
So I've been hooked on your videos for about a month now, and finally got out to try some on my own. Prior to seeing you guys, whisk(e)y was always something to slam in a shot, so glad I am learning how to drink it. Had some Ardbeg 10 and Aberlour tonight. Loved both and will hopefully start to develop a more sophisticated palette. Thanks guys!
Also, there is a wonderful satisfaction of having something on your shelf that just says “Old Tub.” I posit that this cannot be quantified in price as it just tickles the fancy.
Breakfast Whiskey turns into a whole day lull 😂
Well you got to have the whiskey before the coffee , come on man be a pro ! Jk
@@mechanicalhippo493 haha! 😂
You can’t drink all day if you don’t start in the morning!
@@HotButteryRolls someone has a bigger brain than I do! Haha 🤣
Hot Buttery Rolls those are the words I live by 😂😂😂
That call - you guys are hilarious - thanks for making my day
Rex: "I have heard of this before"
Daniel: "long explanation"
You guys reviewed the distillery only one a couple years ago. ;)
Glad I came back and watched this again. This is stocked at my local Grocery Outlet store for $20-30. And I had forgotten about the comptroller phone call! LMAO!!!
Thank you for this video! I've been curious about Old Tub as it's $21.99 here in South Florida. Gonna add it to the collection.
Super divisive bottle. Glad you guys liked it. I think the stronger flavor holds up well with a cigar.
Literally just picked up a bottle yesterday!! I think it’s great.
THIS was a fun episode, and so informative. hehe
I am so going to call your cell the next time I know you are taping.... LOL. Love it. Also recognize the Jim Beam Bonded in the older bottle.
I was drinking my current daily Old Tub when your video popped up! I had to subscribe right away after you liked it too!!
Had a friend give me a bottle of four roses and i have to say its one of my favorite sipping whiskeys .
Good morning from Seattle. 😁 Always wondered how many episodes they shoot at one time and how well they have to function for work after the shoots. Always an enjoyable time.
HAHAHA! I am sooooo glad you left the toll free number call in there. Dying! Heck, the whole cell phone thing
Old Tub came in first place in my "bottom shelfer" blind flight. It beat out Buffalo Trace, Jim Beam Single Barrel and Evan Williams BIB. Excellent value, terrible name 😁
Yeah I was not too keen on the name, but anything that’s super affordable and super tasty is worth getting!
That’s funny because it was dead last in two different ones I’ve done in last two weeks. I don’t prefer it neat but with ginger ale it’s quite decent. Love whiskey cuz it’s truly to each their own!
@@thejonathandoan apparently “old tub” was the nickname for a large fermentation tank many moons ago at the Beam distillery
I spy with my little eye... Glen Breton 10yo by Daniel's elbow at 0:48. Neat little distillery out of Nova Scotia where I dragged my family to last summer. Snapped pics of their setup as well. Good times.
The phone call was hilarious! I just subscribed to your channel.
Dammit Fancy Dan, why didn't you have my back! hahaha love you guys.
*Channels inner Oscar from The Office:
ACTUALLY... everyone’s slightly incorrect. Surface tension is simply the product of cohesion, the phenomenon of water molecules being attracted to each other.
The topic of meniscus/surface tension was started when Daniel commented about the water droplet not falling off the bottle cap into the glencairn. The force responsible for the water sticking to the cap is adhesion.
For the price, we loved this one! Really wish more places did unfiltered whiskey....same when it comes to beer.
Picked up Old Tub for $17 in The Colony, TX last week at Specs!
Picked this up today for $10 on clearance. For that price I'll buy all day!
Enjoying a dram of Old Tub right now. Picked up a bottle for $16.99 at the PA state store. What a deal. It felt weird buying anything with "tub" in the name. The taste got me over those reservations right away. Full disclosure: I'm a regular Jim Beam fan already (white, black, double oak, bonded). The Old Tub distinguishes itself nicely.
I love these “nosing techniques” that Fancy Dan is doing. Hilarious
Fancy seeing you hear mister. I will bring my bottle for Ze Whiskey Meizzer
Haven't seen Old Tub out here in Cali yet. The Jim Beam Bonded is a staple though in my collection, weirdly just a dollar more than the Evan Williams BIB (another favorite) and both go for under 20 here.
New series discovered! "Whiskey Business!" Daniel takes business calls while Rex tries to piss off Daniel! It's like Super Troopers, but with whiskey!
I just got into whiskey (I’m mainly a craft beer guy) and I absolutely love your channel. I love that your videos are informational yet light and funny with the “occasional” ball busting haha. Glad I found y’all. Cheers 🍻
Leave now or just start throwing wads of twenties at your favorite liquor store while holding bottles of mahogany colored liquid as your wife drags you away screaming, "We have no room left in the house for all of these damned bottles, you bastard!"
That's Magnificent Bastard to you! I hope you enjoy your journey...
Mark Oki lol I’m already used to doing that. The craft beer scene in LA is a damn expensive hobby. I had to buy a beer fridge because all my beers were taking up the fridge & the wife was not happy with the lack of fridge space lol Now it’s time to take over the pantry and later create a bar in my loft!! To be fair my wife does like whiskey a lot more than beers so she’ll probably be happy with this move lol. Cheers.
@@MichaelBSteeleAviation She likes whisk[e]y? Mixed blessing - while you have a built-in drinking buddy, she's gonna put a huge drain on the supply. Maybe google, "liquor cabinet with hidden storage compartments"? 🤪
Mark Oki 😂😂 What type of glasses are they using in this video and is this just for tasting or this a preferred type of glass to sip on good whiskeys with?
@@MichaelBSteeleAviation Glencairn is the style of glass/crystal. Specifucally designed for nosing whisk[e]y. Can be hard to find at the usual brick&mortars but everywhere online. Most popular whisk[e]y channels offer them as well. Ise one almost every day (my self-imposed dry days are Mon-Tue) Pretty robust but get a couple extras just in case.
I did a side-by-side with both of these on my IG a while back & the guys echoed everything I found! I'm feeling pretty good right now!
Snot bubbles. Rex in effect and Daniel trying not to bust out laughing ( like myself ) is RUclips gold. Slainte.
I always like a good Bourbon to finish off the day.
So I was drinking Bakers 7 and decided after I was done with that to pour some old tub. Same glencairn, I used for the bakers. All I could nose and taste was peanut butter. It was awesome lol
"Burst his bubble" while discussing surface tension wise choice of words good sir
I just got this and so far while it has a decent flavor I’m getting an oily taste , I have never had that taste in other whiskeys or bourbons but I’ll keep trying it out and maybe it will grow on me
Me too. I’ve never had such a viscous whiskey.
Amazing channel thank you
Love these reviews.
Can you guys please play Yackety Sax (Benny Hill Theme), when Daniel is walking around trying to find a comparable whiskey?
I keep passing this by, maybe I should give it a try.
I would argue it's a more capillary action which makes the water climb the sides of the container than surface tension.
I just came across this today. 10 mins ago. In Southern California for $19.99. But passed because I haven’t seen this review yet.
Instead I got Glenlivit Rum cask ($32.99).
Probably the better choice, but the Old Tub intrigues me.
Right on time. Hello
I get a bunch of peanut on this. I'd love if you guys did a flavor profile comparison from distilleries. What notes are common to Beam v. Four Roses v. Buffalo Trace v. Brown Foreman etc. . . Maybe on the tribe channel.
Same. Old stale rancid peanuts
As a stranahan's fan I can completely relate to the ratio between the yellow label vs the black label in the back ground. As far as old tub at the price point I'd take early times bib any day!
Going to the store tomorrow? Would you recommend this over Wild Turkey 101?
Thanks!
Just saw this local and it was $17..im excited to try it.
Can y’all go into more detail about what “distillers collection” actually is..... I got a Ezra brooks (distillers collection) and the owner of the liquor store said that he recommends this because he (the owner) went and picked out the barrel for these specific bottles.
That vault is getting so stocked! How do you maintain the integrity of so many bottles? Is it to the point yet that you have a full-time position for tipping the bottles to wet the corks? Where do I apply?
How do you know if they have a bottle for a future episode? I was hoping they would try Buffalo Trace Kosher Rye Recipe, but don't want to send it if they already have it.
How do you all not get the peanut taste and smell on the Beam products? Can't recall you ever pointing out while tasting any Beam
Missing Chad! #bringbackkingvape so glad that you compared to the BIB!
I do love Old Tub for the price, I’ll always keep a couple of those in my collection
What would you recommend for a breakfast whiskey?
Old Tub 20$ in Va.
19.99 in one of the stores I visit and they just had it on sale for 16.99. I took a chance on it at the sale price and to be honest, I enjoy it as something you can sip on and not have to ponder.
i found this to be very good. light cinnamon and corn on the nose, caramel and oak on the palate. does this not have the longest finish? the cinnamon sticks around! brushed my teeth later and could've swore i was using CloseUp toothpaste-i wasn't!
So basically they kept all of the good stuff in the bottle and charged about the same?
$4 more in their local area, but yeah
the next video recommended to me by youtube was old tub from daniel month day 9. different old tub? or just a repeated review?
Great whiskey! Go pass the neck pour! It opens up really good for a $23 bottle! Cheer's
Just bought Old Tub for $16.99 in PA, can't go wrong for that price, much more interesting than a $17 whiskey.
Hello All....at one point Daniel was looking up prices on his phone...anyone know what site he was using to price the bottles???? Thanks!
I’m interested in this because my bottle of Old Tub screams “Peanuts! Baseball Peanuts! Here!” more than any other note.
I have heard a few reviewers called this a baby's Booker. I agree because when I have a dram of this, I want bookers afterwards
the light cinnamon and oak notes are reminiscent of booker's...
Meniscus is the bottom of the curve (the lowest point) so Dan, you are correct sir!
I love it straight and it's great in an old fashion too.
Is the frame rate on this video lower than the normal 30fps? Or do I need more coffee?
$16.99 at Costco. Just saw it and wonder if I should go back unless it's readily available.
The biggest problem with Jim Beam is they don't have a factory tour. The best part of Jim Beam is the visitor's center is right off of I-65 in Clearmont. (It's really close. Missed it the first time, and ended up at Four Roses, lol.) They do have a tasting room, though.
They have a barrel house you can get to, but not enter, but still get that barrel house aroma, that every whiskey lover needs to inhale.
Best factory tour hands down is Jack Daniels, but Lynchburg is pretty far out of the way.
I think Rex and Daniel should do a road trip of the Bourbon Trail in Kentucky some day...
You guys should do a video that is the best craft distillery by each state voted on by the tribe.
Love shenanigans!
Found this during the pandemic. It was a very inexpensive, less then $20, and since it was a Jim Beam product, I'd thought I'd try it. I understand that it was only sold in the gift shop at the distillery, and since the tours were stopped during the pandemic they had a surplus, so they distributed it. Maybe you can verify this rumor. It's not available all the time where I get my bourbon, in Pennsylvania. When I do I stock up. It's one of my favorites straight up or mixed. Can't beat it for the price.
I got a bottle of Old Tub at a local beverage store for $18.99 where I live!
I got the Old Tub for $17.21 sales tax and a veterans discount included at Spec's in Wichita Falls, TX.
Daniel: "we had a bottle of it, I don't know what happened to it." See Daniel Month Day 9 episode from a year ago when they reviewed the same exact whisky.
That business call made this episode better lol
Laser engrave the logo on the box. High accuracy, woodburn old-timey effect.
Best. Episode. Ever.
I would like to point out that the Meniscus is the curve in water when viewed in a glass or plastic cylinder due to surface tension but when Daniel was trying to pour water out of the bottle and it stoped at the lip that was just surface tension and not a meniscus
In Pennsylvania, I'm getting this at $16.99 for the 750ml . I'm stocking up on it, for that price !
I didn't notice, was this officially bottled in bond? I noticed you said it was 100 proof which is standard for bottled in bond but is this officially bottled in bond?
Does anyone else watch a few of these a night,.. and toast along at the end?
Old Tub in Minnesota $20-23. It was at Costco for $15.99.....complete no brainer, picked up a case. Good stuff. Hopefully it's not a one off or they bring it back every couple years.
I just bought one today for 15.99 as well.
Some are calling this non-chill filtered, but the bottle says unfiltered. Am I wrong to say that there is a clear difference?
Just got some for $21 in Ohio. Pretty good stuff!
I'd like to see a head to head of Old Grand Dad BIB vs Old Tub BIB :)
totalwines has the Old Tub priced at $17.99 in Louisiana.
Just got this for $18. I like it on the rocks better than neat. Tasty.
$19.99 in Leesburg Florida. I got a lot of peanuts/peanut butter flavors.
I got it on Saturday at spec's in San Antonio for 17.99 probably best 17.99 I have spent
Old Tub gets much better with some air. One of the best deals around the $20 range
It's funny how quickly y'all forget hahaha you guys did the other one about a year ago!
Lol! The toll free call was classic! 😜😜😜
The, “Hellloo” was awesome
woooooow, may I visit your vault?
🤣 I do that to calls all the time. Then I’m like ohhhhhhh shit I’m sorry.🤣
Old tub is around 21 here In illinois
Only Daniel and Rex could make a boring business call about tobacco license entertaining af.
Heeeeeelllllllloooooooo! 😆 Damn the man 👊
