Before watching and reading comments, I have to say, this is one of my favorite budget whiskeys right now. Hopefully they agree with me. It’s an excellent value!
Sweet! We finally got to the first whiskey I tried, without intending to get drunk. I was wondering when this one would finally be reviewed. That puts me at 3 now. I have found 3 more whiskies to donate, that is when I can make the trip again. :-)
Well lads I just went back and watched the first 5 whiskey vault episodes... you've come a long way and I'm glad you are still here. Cheers to many more episodes
Ahahh! The double oak finally gets its due limelight. If things went south for me (God forbid), and I couldn't spend that much on whiskey, this would be my bottle of choice.
🥃 Since somebody asked...... my favorite "readily available" (a relative term) sherried whiskies would be Aberlour A'bunadh (about $80 , 61% ABV) and Glendronach 18 Allardice (100% matured in Oloroso sherry casks, 46% ABV $160). For bottles a little more challenging to find outside of Texas try the Balcones Brujeria Texas Single Malt (PX and Oloroso sherry casks, 62.9% ABV $120) or for something with a little peat & smoke try Ardbeg Uigedahl (Oloroso sherry casks, 54.2% ABV $80). The most insanely awesome sherry cask aged Scotch whiskies that are total unicorns would be the Bunnahabhain Moine Oloroso Fies Ile Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky (I'd give my left nut to get another bottle) and a Glendronach "Hand Filled" bottle, only available at the distillery. 🥃
Great review on the Double oak. This is a great drinker. Have ya looked at the Beam Repeal Batch yet. Might a good comparison between some of the other Beams. ✌
This is the first Bourbon bottle I actually bought for myself. I must say I like it a whole lot better than regular JB or JD. Dark sweet caramels very rounded with a nice oaky finish. It won't take you for a wild ride of flavours but it's simple and enjoyable.
Hi Rex and Daniel, I totally second doing a Sherry malt list! I have been wondering about differences between several bottles, but do not want to commit to buying them like the Aberlour Abunadh, Bowmore Darkest 15, Balcones Brujeria, Glenfarclas 105 (or any glenfarclas), Glenlivet Nadurro Oloroso, Glendronach 15, and Macallan Classic Cut or Ruby. I don't think you have reviewed some of these so it would be cool to get your take on them. I know some of these are cask strength and some aren't, but it would be hard to get a consistent set of criteria for all "sherry bomb" scotches.
I really enjoyed the older vault episodes with category comparisons, blending, poor mans etc. I appreciate the channel is driven by donations and the fans but some of that older content was really interesting. Wish you would do some of that again.
Funny... I bought this for my mate a couple days ago as a birthday gift. Came in a pack with glasses and all... Can't wait to try it. Big JB fan here. Always have a bottle of Devil's Cut at home. Cheers
Daniel has done this review solo before and said it was too sweet for him and bitter towards the end! I personally really dig double oak and I’m thankful he has come around to the taste! Good episode lads!
I have tried this and I am not a huge fan, I do like the Jim Beam Black, but if I want something "double oaked" or "double barreled" I will reach for the Woodford Reserve Double Oaked that is some really smooth Bourbon.
Opened a bottle of double oak today. It’s pretty cool. Not bad but just Ok for me. Prefer wild turkey or woodferd reserve. Currently don’t think I’ll keep this bottle in my arsenal once it’s finished.
Hi Rex and Daniel, first thank you so much for doing the tastings as it’s keeping me train my pallet as I continue my whiskey journey. Could you do an episode for top 5 scotches for bourbon lovers looking to expand into Scotch and Vice versa?
Only just got into drinking whiskey, my grandad loves his Scottish Highlands malts... I really can't get to like them, however I tried basic bourbon Jim beam and jack Daniels and I love whiskey now!! What else would you recommend if I like these drinks? Thanks
I just bought a bottle at my favorite wine & liquor store. It was $25.67 (incl. tax) here in Mississippi. I've been told that our state ABC tacks on 18% at the warehouse to EVERYTHING! So liquor is no bargain. But Jim Beam is a good solid affordable brand that suits my taste.
I would love to see an experiment where you guys do a 4 year or even an 8 year bourbon, in one of them you double oak at the halfway mark. On the other, you could swap into a new barrel each year
Great content like always! I'm a bourbon drinker and I'm trying to get into scotches. I've concluded I hate sherry after trying the Glenmorangie sherry cask. I really like Monkey Shoulder, Glenmorangie 10, and Glenmorangie Nectar d'Or (Nectar is my favorite). What should I try next? I was thinking of Bunnahabhain 12, Belvanie 12 doublewood, Abelour 12, Glenfiddich 14 Bourbon Barrel, and Dalmore 12, are those good choices? I'm looking for complexity without sherry! I'd appreciate any recommendations!
I like the idea of a top 10 sherry scotch whiskies video as sherry aged/finished whiskies are my favourite, I recently bought wolfburn Aurora which is apparently 20% first fill sherry hogshead and ye can definitely tell it's there, great malt. Also Glengoyne cask strength is another brilliant one and ofcourse anything from Dalmore I really love
I've had a masterclass by Jim Beam for my work (liquor store) and the JB employee said the second aging is for 2 years. So 6 years in total but ofcourse it doesn't taste like a regular method 6 year old bourbon.
Yeah, I have the same question. I can get the regular 10 year and the Curiositas (half-peated) where I live and they are both delicious, but are not very sherried at all, more like classic speyside.
When I drink the white label, I always taste peanuts. I don't know if you pick up that note, but it hits me on the face. Does that note come out in the double oak?
What is the best Whiskey Vault? The Whiskey Vault you like, the way you like it. Guys, make the Whiskey Vault episodes however you want. We'll watch them anyway.
Happy Monday you magnificent bearded bastards! I know scotch distilleries often cask whisky in barrels with heads different from the barrel, do American distilleries do anything similar? Could you use wood other than oak such as applewood, maple, or cherry, and if you do would it still be considered bourbon if the barrel is new oak?
@@jimhebrank3936 Good to know. I may still try it if I get a chance, though. I keep the Black around because it is actually a pretty nice bourbon. I think that it was nicer before they dropped the age statement and began bottling it as a slightly younger whiskey.
@@penzcrazier i had a pretty same sip of jack daniels at an age i shouldn't have, but this was the first time i bought a bottle and properly tasted whiskey. still got about a third of it left.
Bought Jim Beam yesterday to get a baseline bourbon taste. It's ok. Corn forward, apple and sweet yet boring compared to Makers, Woodford, Eagle Rare. Gonna keep it as a house whisky and will experiment blending more interesting whiskys into it like Wild Turkey Rare Breed
Did Daniel Say it's "Close to the Bourbons he ACTUALLY Likes"?? As if he's not Really all that much into them? Rex should bust on him though for following that up with "Knob" Ha
What about a Cask Finish episode on the Tribe channel? Explain the impact of each cask and taste a few of each category. Mix them together, add a small wager and throw in an air blower computer chair shenanigan for good measure. Mooch be with you.
At the liquor store I normally go to there was a bottle of 25 year Macallan and it was I think a little over 2500 which was quite a shock cause I can barley bring my self to over 150 a bottle of anything
How many times could you oak a bourbon? 4 times, 5 times, 7 times, or maybe even 10 times? You could just leave in each barrel for about 5 days something.
J.B. Single Barrel is a surprising treat...none o' that "thinness" there. Add Rabbit Hole's Dareringer PX Sherry Casked Bourbon to your sherry finished trials!
Bros... the aberlour 12 year double cask and the balvenie 12 year doublewood are a couple of my favorite scotches. Would love to see the sherry episode. And Jim Beam is meh... I'll mix it.
What is the point of using different types and mixes of grains? It doesn't affect the taste at all, because the result of distillation is just pure alcohol
I've been drinking Jim Beam Double Oak sense last year and it's extremely cheap out here (San Francisco). I mean I've purchased it for less than 15 per bottle. However I feel like after this video that price is going to double.
I can't even think of 10 sherry bombs, unless you start counting different ages. Glendronach, Macallan, Glenfarclas, Aberlour and Naked Grouse (vatted malt). Does Dalmore even count as a sherry bomb? it tastes like almonds to me. Of those Glendronach would be my first choice.
That's my favorite from the Jim Beam line. Simple, friendly, and tasty.
From Jim beam in general or just if the names on the bottle?
@@ps138vs2cavi From the standard line of JB.
This is all nice, but I miss have those so called Rex week, Daniel week and the poor man's mix of expensive whiskeys ... will we ever get those again?
Second this.
Yes, this.
You have to wait for one of them to mess up and drink during dry week to trigger rex/daniel week.
.
I'm all-in on this!

I second the request for top sherry barrelled scotch whiskies. Loved the smell of Dalmore 12 but found it too light on the taste.
I like Glenmorangie Lasanta. Nice flavor and not too light.
Consider giving the Dalmore 15 a try!
Dalmore 18 is very good. Lasanta is a little lack luster for me
It may not be *heavily* sherried, but Bowmore definitely uses sherry casks, and I love the balance with their peat.
glenfarclas 12 or glengoyne 12

What do you think? Is this double oak worth the price?
Mikel Martín idk what should be the price but it’s perfect for my budget at around $20 👍
Noble Oak is a Double Oak Finished in Sherry Oak and it is fantastic. Lots of Sherry.
What BenRiach specifically - the 12 yo matured in sherry wood? I quite like it, but it seems not in production already…

That is what I was thinking. Both are a nice step up from the basic Jim Beam. Head to head with their better bourbons.
