Daniel, the new format of the channel is brilliant with it's deep dives into life, business and whisky. If you are thinking of changing things up, please add but don't subtract, sláinte.
I love the format of people discussing their favorite whiskey or their gateway whiskey. There’s an incredible relatable passion to those conversations. I think bringing in different people, on a regular basis, would be an excellent idea. Not just Somms but master distillers, blenders, etc... All discussing their place in the whisky industry.
I've now started watching older videos in the new season for fun like I used to when it was you and Rex. The channel is, for me, really gaining the kind of weight that the old format had, which is nice. It really feels like home again, cheers Daniel, here's to the future.
I love this channel..Its the only channel that now has that bell clicked because after the split, the youtube algorithm didnt automatically recommend the videos. my 2 cents. Like the chemistry that happens with whisky aging, there is more or less some truths with marketing and getting the word out there. And thats Promotion.. In this era of social media, hire someone or get software to produce "shorts" and place them on TT, IG, FB and YT. You hit a wider audience and the funnel just becomes wider and will distill into pipeline to the marketing school.
This season has been a breath of fresh air in whiskey tube. I hope the next season leans into the nerdy side. Educational deep dives are absolutely fantastic. Also, respect and thanks for always being open, transparent and honest about the channel. That paired with the content really feels like the heart and soul of whiskey: sharing drams with friends.

One of the many things I appreciate about the channel is the awareness and honesty. I thought it was just me who felt like it went from "Hey, this whisk(e)y is like this and you should try it" to "Hey, this whisk(e)y is like this, and you will never see it in your life because it was sent to us by a fan who works at the distillery who only sells it in their town".
Cant wait for what comes next!! Still the best value this channel had against the rest of whisky-tube was bottle comparation. Loved the brand catalog comparation episodes. Loved the "Lets get something else from the shelf that is close to this" episodes.. no other channel has done it or is doing it that way. Cheers!

I came across your channel purely searching for a review of Lagavulin 16. I subsequently watched all of your old reviews and have enjoyed this season the most. It’s refreshing listening to life lessons/stories alongside the whisky reviews. Caol Ila 12 was the first whisky I ever had in Scotland and has long been a favourite. Can’t wait for the next season! You once tossed out the idea of a book club type thing. You recommended 'Proof' which helped me understand whiskey on a scientific level, which only made me more nerdy and love the topic of spirits I think that would be great form of video, each week discussing a new chapter and talking anecdotal info or whatever. This channel and all the seasons it's gone through has built one of the great passions of mine, and my friends all love to have a drink with me because of the way I talk about spirits (non-snobbish), which I learned here. Can't wait for all that the future brings!!
Was a big fan and watched a lot your content in the early tribe days. As time went on I found that I’d stopped watching and engaging. I saw the announcement video of the splitting of the channels and thought it was a bit sad, as I did still tune in occasionally to watch a video that piqued my interest. But now, this format of Daniel talking to camera has me hooked again, such an easy thing to put on in the background and listen to. It’s really a testament to how interesting you are as a person. Two things: One, as I mentioned in a reply to a comment, I would love to see a once a week thing where a somm grad talks about their experience (or something else interesting) and a whisk(e)y of their choice. Two - Whiskey Vault is a valuable resource to me. I work in retail and unfortunately I cannot sample every new whisk(e)y that comes into the store. Most of the time I can find a reliable review on Whiskey Vault, though reviews of accessible bottles did start becoming harder to find through all the rare/gifted stuff. Anyway, please make sure that through any changes to the channel that you make the resource aspect remains. Thank you for all your efforts!
On a random note - to me Caol Ila 12 is such a wonderful summer sipper. Always get very lemony and citrusy notes on the palette. Always a pleasure to stop by for a video even if I don't comment every time 🥃🥃
Daniel, I'll speak for myself, but I really like when your channel teaches me HOW to drink neat whiskey. What glass to use, how to swirl it to let air in and fragrance out. Next is when you teach us regions of whiskey and what makes them, them. What to look for in a good bourbon vs a supreme bourbon vs a blended Scotch vs a supreme Scotch. And I'm dumb, so I need this every few months so I don't forget (also for new viewers, you can never go wrong). Finally can I add a drop or 2 of Drambue or cranberry juice, does it only have to be water? Thanks
Two months ago, I got a haircut for our 51st anniversery on the Beardbrand RUclips channel. It has over 700,000 views. You are correct about the size of subsciptions. Beardbrand has over 2 million subscribers. But you, and the Tribe are my favorite whiskey channels by far.
I came to the Vault when Rex was first around way before the ridiculous bear and eagle intro stuff while funny my favorite episodes were from "season 1" I came for the knowledge and to learn everything about whisky. Exactly what's missing! We have learned about the school and distillery in the first 4 seasons but what are you actually accomplishing? What do people do with this education?
Looking forward to what’s coming next. I must say, I have really enjoyed the ”sit down at the barrel with Daniel” aspect. I think it’s very appealing to those of us that do this in real life. Sitting around an object, usually fire, drinking whiskey, and having thought provoking conversations.
Always enjoy your round barrel discussions. As a suggestion I personally would be interested in seeing counter/balance point/thoughts on your subject and whiskey from an guest alumni of the school.
Been a big fan of the vault for years, and have particularly enjoyed this season. You've mentioned bringing in other somms on a couple occasions, and the next season of the vault feelings like a good opportunity to do that. I would love to hear what some of the other somms are doing after completing the program, hear their stories about what got them into the industry, and see how they approach a tasting differently.
I think there's a comforting relaxing appeal to having a whiskey professional such as yourself sit down alone with a whiskey and talk with us, but there will always be a magic having another person to bounce off of. Rex was awesome but maybe you can reintroduce having ocassional guests go through them with you.

Just picked up a second bottle of Caol Ila 12. Usually I look at my notes while testing a new bottle. This time I treated the bottle like a new whisky. It’s so strange. Except for the order I wrote down the exact same nose and almost the same palate. I remember it as more viscose but that’s probably just me. Lovely whisky 😊
I would love to have deeper dives into the nerdy aspects of whisky/whiskey and distillation and how yeast,grain,still,wood and time can change the whole thing.

After you did the Dewars 12, I was on a cruise so I was able to get a pour of it right then and enjoy it alongside Chivas 12 and Johnnie Walker Black. On a different note, have you ever tried a bloody Mary with Smokey Scotch instead of vodka? I think it's delicious!
So glad you split channels. I literally stopped subscribing for a long time - eventually could not stand Rex's bullshit. May start watching this channel as a regular again. Totally on board with the romance of the old style Caol Ila bottle and label. There is something about that bottle style that makes it feel like a hug.

Grow the grain, harvest the grain, create, and experience the finished work. Whisky has seasons to follow already. You could use that as inspiration. You could recruit new people or marketing school members (grow), lead them through to find what they like most (then harvest), see what they come up with (create), then experience and highlight the finished work. Or whatever else you come up with. Here for it regardless. Look forward to the next season
I'm a huge fan of this season. To be honest I fell off on season 3, but this has brought me back to the channel to enjoy the wisdom of a professional. To that end, if you are taking suggestions, I'd be very interested in seeing experts of whiskey (like Davin De Kirgommeaux or Don Livermore, or the American, Scottish, and Irish equivalents) talk on the channel. However I understand that doesn't uphold either of the two things you are going for. So would it be prompt to have the school graduates talk about their time in the academy, where they have gone with their skillsets, and what they are doing? Have them review a bottle and hang out with Daniel? I'd be curious about the opportunities and differences wizard academy has made for these people. Either way, I'm here for season 5. Excited to see what comes next!
I’ve been a fan since season 2ish. I have loved season 4. While I found the whole Som and Mooch schtick entertaining, I find I enjoy story time, whiskey nerd, and life/business lessons more. What I think would be cool for season 5 would be some guests every so often, either Soms, or people from distilleries. Also maybe little sneak peaks of what is taught at Whiskey Marketing School, like little mini lessons.
I really like your story-time, liked it from the get go! And you kind of talking about Whisky-Marketing-School-Content is very entertaining to me. So, I guess I am not very happy about an announcement of change. However, as mostly a consumer, I may be quite happy with most of the stuff that a Daniel-Brain might be ok with to do. As one of your more international viewers, I am not that interested in American whiskies - and I watch your random whiskies most likely if there's a name in it that is at least somehow familiar to me. Whatever you do, I think the concept of Whisky being an important part in this but not necessarily the dead center of things is something that appeals to me a lot! It's the "and also Whisky" aspect that really attracts me. So, keeping that up in some way is definitely sure to make me watch most of the videos on this channel when they come out.
As a fan of all the seasons, I do hope you and Rex still have a good relationship as you did seem like good friends. Even though your characters differ a lot. Watching this video enjoying a SV 2015 caol ila. Cheers
The rampant complexity in design really makes it clear why the old standards are so good. That's true of the Vault, too. I've been around since before Rex and I'm still here now.
I would like to see this channel focused on education and what is interesting about the world of whiskey. More like "you should try this whiskey because of this interesting fact or story that can be told" Would also love to see interviews or deep dives into the folks and process behind whiskey. What even is yellow dent corn and where did it come from? Are there enough Oak trees to keep making bourbon barrels? Why did Japan follow Scotland's lead when their climate is closer to Kentucky? Kind of like mini lessons that you would cover in the school directed at a broader audience. Probably lose thousands of subscribers, but would give deeper knowledge to those who want to hear it.
Great season four! If I had to take a guess what may happen for season five is that Daniel mentioned he “might not be around forever” which means maybe he will introduce and integrate some one/others into the channel to eventually take over. Now I doubt that’s how “season 5” ends but may be the start of that.
I very much enjoy learning about whisk(e)y, but I also do miss the occasional shenanigans. Shenanigans can be the sip of water before trying something new. Just cleanses the palette a bit. I'd also like to see some focus around small American distillers who are trying to do it the right way. Give the little guy a boost. Maybe talk about where they distribute or how to order from them directly, if that is possible.
To be honest, I’ve transitioned from Whisky Tribe to the vault with you, I’ve always more appreciated the very early years to the recent. And surprise surprise that involved you and a barrel! 😂
Do I miss the old Whiskey Vault duo style? Yep. Do I LOVE the new "Daniel at the barrel" videos? Yes! Do I love the stories and the style of the "new" videos? Hell yeah! Am I excited for the future of the Whiskey Vault and what you'll turn it into? 110% YES! Cheers to a new adventure!
Fan for a long time, I like the idea of getting back to more "nerdy whisky reviews". I feel like it is hader today to select good whisky because the good stuff is getting harder to find and afford, plus the market is becoming saturated with new quick to the shelf stuff. Not complaining because we now have aisles to select from instead of a few shelves, but keeping up with what I should by, should spend and can find is tougher today. Happy whisky hunting. 🥃
I love Caol Ila, but not so much in the official 12yo. Its such a versatile whisky that it tends to cope well with any cask and is really popular with independent bottlers here in Scotland. I have had some cracking Caol Ila's from Signatory.
I'm a big fan of Season 4 and I really hope this format stays. I hope for more Single Grains come in the following seasons. I'm hoping the higher age statements get reviewed.
This is my crazy busy season, if you are flying me down there for Kirk hangs out with Daniel and tries all of the whiskey, we are going to have to wait until at least Season Six 😂
how you feel about the Caol Ila bottle is how I feel about the Laphroaig bottle. Just the best kind of simplicity (or at least its previous rendition. haven’t paid too much attention to their new style)
Have you considered profiling some of your students on the channel? Perhaps a discussion over an interesting dram, investigating what brought them to whisky, and discussing how they plan to take what they have learned at the school and apply it?
Do you think that Caol Ila blends so well because of the "hole" in the mid palette? By the way do you really see green in that bottle? To me it looks like brown medicine bottle glass. Amber might be the best descriptor, and more pleasant than plain brown. Sláinte.
Going to tell it as I see it. - - - 1) never go to the childishness of W-tribe, but please leave behind the “Mr. Roger’s” fireside talk about non-whiskey feelings 2) add someone to the W-Vault who wants to learn and discuss the whiskey with you and the attributes of the process 3) when evaluating whiskey don’t hesitate to say it the way you taste it 4) do some prep beforehand so the episode has some direction 5) watch some of present W-Vault episodes with your eyes and ears focused. I taught college for many years, watching a video of your presentation really helps. Best of luck - greatly want you to continue succeeding! I have learned so much from YOU!
A suggestion would be to get some of your students in front of the camera. It would be a good way for them to get their feet wet if they want to do a whiskey channel or advertising, plus they might be able to plug a little during the video and talk about the academy and might bring in some more future sommeliers. And could also help them get subscribers if they do start up a channel. Help future subscribers get a feel for what their content will be like
Looking back at your career and even your whisky preferences: change is a part of you are. So that should absolutely reflect here on the channel. I myself enjoy this sit down and talk videos very much but I also wanna see what you come up with. Last year, you and Rex asked us "Are you with us?": I am Daniel, I still f****g am and I am glad I am :)

Just picked up a second bottle of Caol Ila 12. Usually I look at my notes while testing a new bottle. This time I treated the bottle like a new whisky. It’s so strange. Except for the order I wrote down the exact same nose and almost the same palate. I remember it as more viscose but that’s probably just me. Lovely whisky 😊
I would love to have deeper dives into the nerdy aspects of whisky/whiskey and distillation and how yeast,grain,still,wood and time can change the whole thing.

After you did the Dewars 12, I was on a cruise so I was able to get a pour of it right then and enjoy it alongside Chivas 12 and Johnnie Walker Black. On a different note, have you ever tried a bloody Mary with Smokey Scotch instead of vodka? I think it's delicious!

Totally on board with the romance of the old style Caol Ila bottle and label. There is something about that bottle style that makes it feel like a hug.
I’m really enjoying this season, but I think I’ll generally like whatever Daniel comes up with. Honestly, it was a bit shocking when you said the spit was a year ago, this still feels like the new thing. There might be some whiskey left in the bottle for this season yet. Cheers!
I really enjoy sit down with Dan at the barrel. Interesting to see what the new thing will be.
Grow the grain, harvest the grain, create, and experience the finished work. Whisky has seasons to follow already. You could use that as inspiration. You could recruit new people or marketing school members (grow), lead them through to find what they like most (then harvest), see what they come up with (create), then experience and highlight the finished work. Or whatever else you come up with. Here for it regardless. Look forward to the next season

Caol Ila bottle is classic. Understated and recognizable. Its a bottle version of a Louboutin.
I'm a huge fan of this season. To be honest I fell off on season 3, but this has brought me back to the channel to enjoy the wisdom of a professional.
To that end, if you are taking suggestions, I'd be very interested in seeing experts of whiskey (like Davin De Kirgommeaux or Don Livermore, or the American, Scottish, and Irish equivalents) talk on the channel. However I understand that doesn't uphold either of the two things you are going for.
So would it be prompt to have the school graduates talk about their time in the academy, where they have gone with their skillsets, and what they are doing? Have them review a bottle and hang out with Daniel? I'd be curious about the opportunities and differences wizard academy has made for these people.
Either way, I'm here for season 5. Excited to see what comes next!
I’ve been a fan since season 2ish. I have loved season 4. While I found the whole Som and Mooch schtick entertaining, I find I enjoy story time, whiskey nerd, and life/business lessons more. What I think would be cool for season 5 would be some guests every so often, either Soms, or people from distilleries. Also maybe little sneak peaks of what is taught at Whiskey Marketing School, like little mini lessons.

I am a huge fan of your season 4 change of direction but I trust your judgement and look forward to season 5.
I really like your story-time, liked it from the get go! And you kind of talking about Whisky-Marketing-School-Content is very entertaining to me. So, I guess I am not very happy about an announcement of change.
However, as mostly a consumer, I may be quite happy with most of the stuff that a Daniel-Brain might be ok with to do.
As one of your more international viewers, I am not that interested in American whiskies - and I watch your random whiskies most likely if there's a name in it that is at least somehow familiar to me.
Whatever you do, I think the concept of Whisky being an important part in this but not necessarily the dead center of things is something that appeals to me a lot! It's the "and also Whisky" aspect that really attracts me. So, keeping that up in some way is definitely sure to make me watch most of the videos on this channel when they come out.
As a fan of all the seasons, I do hope you and Rex still have a good relationship as you did seem like good friends. Even though your characters differ a lot.

Looking forward to seeing season 5 in action, season 4 is already timeless.
I would like to see this channel focused on education and what is interesting about the world of whiskey. More like "you should try this whiskey because of this interesting fact or story that can be told" Would also love to see interviews or deep dives into the folks and process behind whiskey. What even is yellow dent corn and where did it come from? Are there enough Oak trees to keep making bourbon barrels? Why did Japan follow Scotland's lead when their climate is closer to Kentucky? Kind of like mini lessons that you would cover in the school directed at a broader audience. Probably lose thousands of subscribers, but would give deeper knowledge to those who want to hear it.
Great season four! If I had to take a guess what may happen for season five is that Daniel mentioned he “might not be around forever” which means maybe he will introduce and integrate some one/others into the channel to eventually take over. Now I doubt that’s how “season 5” ends but may be the start of that.
I very much enjoy learning about whisk(e)y, but I also do miss the occasional shenanigans. Shenanigans can be the sip of water before trying something new. Just cleanses the palette a bit. I'd also like to see some focus around small American distillers who are trying to do it the right way. Give the little guy a boost. Maybe talk about where they distribute or how to order from them directly, if that is possible.

Enjoying the style you are presenting in, maybe season 5 should be exploring “new world” whiskies, like Taiwanese, New Zealand, Australian etc.

Fan for a long time, I like the idea of getting back to more "nerdy whisky reviews".
I feel like it is hader today to select good whisky because the good stuff is getting harder to find and afford, plus the market is becoming saturated with new quick to the shelf stuff. Not complaining because we now have aisles to select from instead of a few shelves, but keeping up with what I should by, should spend and can find is tougher today. Happy whisky hunting. 🥃
I love Caol Ila, but not so much in the official 12yo. Its such a versatile whisky that it tends to cope well with any cask and is really popular with independent bottlers here in Scotland. I have had some cracking Caol Ila's from Signatory.
the gags and the sketches have been instrumental in bringing in new people to the hobby, id love if you brought the feel back, even if it isn't rex.
I'm a big fan of Season 4 and I really hope this format stays. I hope for more Single Grains come in the following seasons. I'm hoping the higher age statements get reviewed.
This is my crazy busy season, if you are flying me down there for Kirk hangs out with Daniel and tries all of the whiskey, we are going to have to wait until at least Season Six 😂

how you feel about the Caol Ila bottle is how I feel about the Laphroaig bottle. Just the best kind of simplicity (or at least its previous rendition. haven’t paid too much attention to their new style)
Have you considered profiling some of your students on the channel? Perhaps a discussion over an interesting dram, investigating what brought them to whisky, and discussing how they plan to take what they have learned at the school and apply it?
Do you think that Caol Ila blends so well because of the "hole" in the mid palette? By the way do you really see green in that bottle? To me it looks like brown medicine bottle glass. Amber might be the best descriptor, and more pleasant than plain brown. Sláinte.

1) never go to the childishness of W-tribe, but please leave behind the “Mr. Roger’s” fireside talk about non-whiskey feelings
2) add someone to the W-Vault who wants to learn and discuss the whiskey with you and the attributes of the process
3) when evaluating whiskey don’t hesitate to say it the way you taste it
4) do some prep beforehand so the episode has some direction
5) watch some of present
W-Vault episodes with your eyes and ears focused. I taught college for many years, watching a video of your presentation really helps.

A suggestion would be to get some of your students in front of the camera. It would be a good way for them to get their feet wet if they want to do a whiskey channel or advertising, plus they might be able to plug a little during the video and talk about the academy and might bring in some more future sommeliers.
And could also help them get subscribers if they do start up a channel. Help future subscribers get a feel for what their content will be like
Caol Ila 12 may be my absolute favorite.
Caol Isla 18 fills that mid palate in very nicely.
Looking back at your career and even your whisky preferences: change is a part of you are. So that should absolutely reflect here on the channel.
