- One of the big value releases of the year is out and it's named Old Tub Bourbon! Old tub was distillery only and is now widely available for around $20. Is it better than the other $20 bottles of whiskey out there or is it another Jim Beam limited edition flop?

old tub was James Beams original recipe and was his favorite. 4 year bottle in bond sour mash. I've been drinking it for years. One of my favorites for being cheap, but I've never seen the bigger bottles before. Was always sold in a 100/375 ml flask bottles.
I actually thought this was well worth the $23. Love the channel. Thanks for the review.

The other day I would not let her do something, and I told her "nope nope nope nope".
She told me I sounded like Dan.
Then later I was pouring some bourbon into glencairns for my wife and I, and I accidentally spilled some, and my little girl told me, "See, you are like Dan!".
Just a suggestion. You guys should show a close-up of every bottle that you touch whether it's a good review or bad. Just a quick bubble close-up that make me go, "ohhh!" Plus, it makes it more enjoyable when I walk into a liquor store and know the exact label you were talking about. It's fun watching you guys. Thank you!

Easy sipper for me. No ice....just two fingers worth. Nice to have while its available or can be located on the shelf.
I agree, it's an easy sipper. I don't think it holds up as well as other 100 proofers when served on the rocks.
Old Tube has been a dust collector in my town the past few months, I think many were hesitant to try it. I'll give it a shot soon.
I love this Bourbon. For 25 bucks, I mean how can you go wrong? Add a splash of water and it becomes a totally different taste profile.
I was wondering if anyone else was going to suggest a drop of water. Big improvement on the taste. I also enjoy this on ice. Two things that I almost never do to whiskey.

Haven't seen Old Tub in any of the stores I frequent in AZ.
Never been a J.B. fan but, I do really like their Double Oak and Black Extra Aged lines. The 750ml are $20 each.
The J.B. Black Extra Aged is $36 for the 1.75L bottle. I've finished 2 of these bottles and have kept both empty bottles to eventually make lamps out of them.
bought couple for 19 the other day to take it back from vacation and not disappointed honestly. probably won't rebuy after these are gone if it comes to MS but still worth a pick up to try

I agree. Sour mash smell. But you taste the oak and little sour apple. The bite doesn't drop either, It fades in time. Great bourbon for the price.

Ugh... A few days ago, I optimistically picked up Old Tub after seeing it on the self for the first time in NJ. Today I came across this review. Though this juice is not horrible, I could have gone the rest of my life just fine without having ever tried it and putting the money towards something else.
I picked one up for $22 on Saturday, for that price it's fun just to have something on the shelf that says Old Tub.

It is indeed bottled in bond. It's in fine font on the label, easy to miss.
I picked up a bottle for $16.99. Good proof and at least 4 yrs old. At worst, it will be good for an old fashioned.

$22 out the door in Idaho. I like it. Spice, proof, flavor, character. I like the presentation, label has a classic look. I find it to be a nice addition to the beam family. I give it a B- at $22
It cost $16.99 here in PA last Friday. The store really worked hard to sell it to me as well.

Been drinking Evan Williams White for a bit and opened this tonight. Def getting the dirty boiled peanut water thing that Beam is known for....going back to my Old Grand Dad BIB for Beam.

Old Tub opens up nice. Neck pour was not impressive. Gave it 2 weeks after the neck pour. Very different whiskey. One of my favorites now.
And I'm with Sean on this. Generally I favor Dan's palette. But not this time.

I think you have to, beam just has a very distinct flavor
The 375 ml bottles of Old Tub are chilled filtered and in my opinion is smoother than this limited release. However both are good for the price.
of course the chill filtered version is smoother lol but that's not the point......
Saw for $20 everywhere when I was on vacation in SC, passed on it and picked up a spare Early Times BiB instead. 🙌
I cannot find the ET BiB anywhere here in Louisiana, but I have already ran trough 3 bottles of this Old Tub. I like it.
mmilton411 ET BiB has a very limited distribution. I picked mine up in SC, and have never seen it in MD.

Plenty of ETBIB on the shelves in OK for $23-25, Have 4 at present. Great for price. Now I have to find a backup Rare Breed Rye, as I've drank 1/3 of bottle in a week. And that's with me trying to pace myself! Great rye!
“Distillers cut is like a smoother version of Old Tub!!!” Yeah that’s literally what it is. It’s unfiltered. I feel like it would have been good to describe what the whiskey actually was. For what it is, it’s pretty damn good. But sure, if you’re into “smooth” it’s definitely not that.

Unless you're a 100% match, pallet wise...it still might be worth a try. I've heard more most positive reviews for the most part.

I've seen Old Tub in KY for $20. I really liked Distiller's Cut and was hoping Old Tub would be similar since Distiller's Cut is pretty hard to find now. As far as I know the main difference between Old Tub & Distiller's Cut is DC is 5-6 years old while Old Tub is likely only 4.
WT 101 kills all the whiskeys tried on this review.
It also kills every bottle in its price range 😂
Patches Walmart has it currently at just under $20, that $5 cheaper than Old Tub.

Got mine for 20. Not a beam fan but i like peanutty whiskey overall. Cant say im upset with my purchase. Id get early times instead if it was available in my state

This stuff tastes like the Boston Baked Beans candy. If you remember what they taste and smell like then you’ll know.

Picked this up for $14.99 today@ Costco. Would buy again at that price. Tastes very similar to Knob Creek Small Batch, IMO.
Excellent review, It's somewhat available here in Iowa at $22, I only drink it on the rocks. I didn't care for it neat but it tastes much better I think over ice.
You can find Old Tub around $20, also it is also a Bottled in Bond seems you didn't realize. I like it for around $20, but I don't mind the Beam Distillery characteristic. That being said if you look at the Whiskey Crusaders review there must be different batches out there.
I think JTS Brown and JW Dant are both good value decent Heaven Hill BiB Bourbon.

I thought it was pretty good for $21 in Ohio, a bit thin on the finish but not bad.

It's better than repeal batch i'd say.
It's at Meijer in northern Indiana .....on the bottom shelf. When I need to do the Jimmy B thing on a budget I just reach for KC 9 year at $26 .

Old Tub is $20 in Kansas City. I liked it at that price point. The nuttiness definitely comes through. I didn't get any banana, but rather a slight Red Hots cinnamon candy at the end. I like the high proof, but I can get WT101 for a couple bucks more and Evan Williams BiB for a few bucks less, so probably won't be looking to buy another bottle of Old Tub.
I got a touch of cinnamon too in the end too 🥃
Trying it for the first time tonight. Yeah, WT101 is quite a bit better but it was nice to try.
I bought a bottle for $17 a few months ago... yesterday I took a bottle from the shelf.. didn’t look at the price and when the guy rang it up it said 53.00. I said. No thanks.
I bought a bottle of Old Tub and was very disappointed. I thought it was horrible. Tasted like raw mash.
Got it for under $20, actually liked it quite a bit.

Sean is on to something with the finish of the JTS Brown. It's a metallic note, but for the price, its fantastic.

I like some Beam products (Knob Creek, Booker's special releases), but this just wasn't good. So many better products in the price range, from Wild Turkey 101 bourbon and rye, to 1792, to the Benchmark series.
$18 in PA would be interested in comparing with EW BIB.
Noticed you guys didn't mention in the breakdown this is actually bottled in bond. It's very small on the label. Picked one up to give it a shot. Seems like it's worth trying once. Did you guys go back and taste it after the bottle was opened for a week or two?

I can’t drink Old Tub in any fashion. Can’t even mix it. I still have 3/4 the bottle left. I even let it sit almost a year and tried it again, nope. Terrible

I bought that bottle a few weeks back for $22 and for some reason I still haven't opened it (I always open every bottle I buy) and after this video I think I may just regift it or "donate" it to someone "locally" on the secondary market 😂
