Damn, I need to replace the oil pan on my 02 Forester but this looks a lot more intricate than I originally thought. I thought it would come off with just the screws. Didnt think I’d need to jack up the motor + need long extension tools to reach some bolts. So much for doing it myself in my garage in 30 minutes like I thought.
It really isn’t bad. Just remove the exhaust bolts, the two motor mount bolts and don’t forget, like I did, to remove that fire wall to transmission dog bone mount. That one limited my upward travel of the motor. And disconnect the two grounding straps on either side of the engine. They may already be broken just from age. Otherwise it’s really not bad. Might be a bit longer then 30 minutes though if your doing it off jack-stands in the garage.
I think I'm in the same boat on an impreza. Rebuilt the engine and noticed a lot of oil leaking a few weeks later. Rust hole right through the pan. No idea how I missed that, would have been a lot easier with the darn engine sitting on the engine lift.
Wow you have awesome response after a couple years of making the video of you remember right what was the cleaner you sprayed into the upper part of the oil pan? Panning on doing mine soon
I sprayed Orielys brake cleaner in there. I’m doing a Pontiac g6 right now and sure hate every minute of it😆. The brake cleaner was sprayed just to brake up the oil and get it to run out. Good luck and if you have questions I’ll respond as soon as I see it!!
Nice work!!. Question: is there a engine/transmission 'brace/dog bone' that needs to be disconnected? I think its located top side below the air intake.
Yes there is. Good catch! I forgot to remove it but was able to get it up just high enough. Without the dog bone I imagine it would have gone much higher🤦🏻♂️
Laughing at the "I paid for a full tube of gasket-maker, I'll use the whole tube of gasket maker" mentality. If you had a hard time taking the oil pan off before, I sure hope you're not gonna need to take if off ever again, she might not come off. Good vid though.

I did with no jacks and without removing anything it was a pain in the ass but you can do it-2000 Subaru legacy

lol!!! I know!!! Great job on the rebuild though! Can’t win them all.
What I see interesting in your video is that I did not see you loosen up the motor mount bolts that you talked about
I’ll have to go back and look I know I must’ve loosen them

Are you talking about engine mount?, Also do you have Aftermarket equal length headers or what yr Wrx is it
Not the engine mount, it the upper stabilizer that is attached to the fire wall then to the top of the transmission.
Factory headers

Loosening the pitch mount may have given you another inch
Anyone tried getting to the sump bolts with Flexi Socket Extention?
I have not, but I betcha with the new tool technology they got that may work
How long did it take in total?
Probably no more than an hour. All the bolts were free because I had just rebuilt the motor.
Is it really necessary to unbolt the headers?
For me it was because I had to lift the motor and the exhaust was not allowing me to go up high enough.
