More than likely the metals are the same gauge. There’s three layers of paint on the original gate, primer, base, then clear. The base/clear is very capable of adding a few thousands of thickness. The new gate only comes primered, two less paint layers. Minus the hinge which could be helped out by just adding a weld around it, it looks like a good buy I’m gonna order one

Yeah I got one of these tailgates. Very light and ended up warping on the inside after just me getting up there. Arrived with a bunch of dings and dents too.
I just got my new tailgate in the mail. Seems lighter than the old one and only came with the handle and no hardware or bolts. It’s a different style of tailgate though. The old tailgate has an access panel to get to the hardware. The new tailgate has like a big hole around the handle where you’re supposed to access everything super weird. Not sure if I’m supposed to use the old hardware or get a new hardware
The new tailgates do feel lighter. As for the other differences, that’s totally new to me. I think you can go either way. You can get all new hardware or reuse your old hardware.
@@TheMinuteMasters after asking everyone I know and google I found out it’s compatible and only the front end changed for those years. So I’m lucky there I do not feel like sending it back. I just hope the hardware works
Were can i get the mounting hardware for the decorative panel to put it back on. The braces were all brittle from age its a 92 i cant seem to find new ones on internet.
That’s a good question Calvin. I got lucky abs found this panel with all the correct hardware. I think junkyards are your best bet right now. You can search Jeff’s Bronco Graveyard website and see if he carries the hardware.
Thanks for this video! I've got a 10th gen i just bought and the tailgate is something I'm considering replacing. I'll stick with the factory one until I find a used one or find a quality aftermarket one.
Famous75 Gaming I actually didn’t use the new tailgate. I wasn’t satisfied with the manufacturing quality. So I put new hardware on my old tailgate and I’m going to restore it.
I just did this replacement with a new tailgate.Painted it, saved the decorative panel and installed it on the new one. Looks awesome. Now, I am looking for the "tailgate liner" searched internet couldnt find a good one, any idea where I can get it ?! Thanks!
Nice man! That’s what I want to do to my tailgate when I get to it. As for a tailgate liner I think a couple companies sell a rubber one that kind of screws or bolts to the inside of the tailgate. That way you don’t have the pieces that wrap over the bottom and top. Otherwise the diamond plate is a good idea!🤙
Love your videos.. but I have to tell you, there is no cheap replacement for the oem tailgate. I have used that exact cheap tailgate and lost an entire load of trex decking because it failed and didn’t support the load. Eventually, u will want an original tailgate, you can pick them up cheap on Facebook marketplace or craigslist. I bought an old one for $50.. used aircraft stripper to get all old paint off, primered, painted , and used a 2k clear coat rattle can from Amazon. Worked amazing for $20. Anyway, great to see videos on the obs fords. Thanks

That guy just has nothing to do and needs attention cause there is no reason on God's green earth that anyone with 1/2 brain would do that - oh, may have just explained that. Anyway buddy.
